Hello, my lovey readers. During this chapter the group will be visiting the Mikaelsons' home and as you've seen things get a little crazy when they get together. Reviews answers are at the bottom. On with the show…
Chapter 16: Twisted
Packing a bag, Caroline wondered what this weekend would be like. Klaus had invited her to come to his family home for the weekend. Rebekah was ready, tapping her foot impatiently. "Come on, Caroline. You're almost as slow as Hayley." Glaring at Hayley's back, Rebekah shook her head. "Sometime before I turn into a bloody statue would be grand?"
"Oh, come on, Bekah. Give them a rest." Marcel called from his position in the doorway.
"You two know that it's weird that you're both spending the weekend with you Profs, right?" Caroline asked her roommates.
Rebekah folded her arms. "The difference is that Marcel and I have a strictly professional relationship. It does not concern us that Hayley and Elijah are violating so many rules it is not even amusing. Do you know what kind of danger you are putting my brother's career in, Hayley?"
"It might help if you could keep either your mouth or the door shut. Or how about both?" Hayley shot back, flipping her suitcase shut and glaring at Rebekah.
"Why should I keep my mouth shut? I'm not doing anything wrong," Rebekah retorted. "I am going home to spend time with my family."
"Which you do all the time anyway," Hayley informed her before picking up her bag.
"Well, at least I will not be turning into a big, shaggy dog over the time spent there," Rebekah snapped.
"What?" Marcel asked and Caroline sped in front of him. "You didn't hear anything about shaggy dogs."
"What shaggy dogs?" Marcel asked, shaking his head and looking confused. "I'm allergic to dogs." Rebekah placed her hand over her mouth but couldn't stop the laughter from filling the room as Caroline and Hayley joined in. Marcel looked at the three females like they had all lost their minds. "What's so funny?"
"Nothing," Rebekah reassured him, shaking her head while tears ran down her cheeks.
Hayley walked past them into the hall. "Yeah, it's nothing you need to worry about. Just lock your door at night and take your medication if you have any."
Marcel stared at Hayley, his eyes wide and filled with confusion. "Does someone want to fill me in on what that hell she's talking about?"
"No," Caroline told him, grabbing her bags and walking out the door, heading down the hall. She heard Marcel questioning Rebekah as they walked down the hallway. He was asking if her parents had a dog. No. Then what's so funny? Nothing. You and your roomies seemed to think something was funny. No. We're just so relieved to be leaving this place for the weekend. That is all.
Shaking her head, Caroline walked out of the building to see the three Mikaelson brothers waiting for them. "Good morning, sweetheart," Klaus called, striding over to kiss Caroline.
"Hey, Caroline," Bonnie called, popping her head out of the back window of Klaus' car.
Caroline raised her eyebrows but grinned. "Hey, Bon," she called back before pulling back to give Klaus a questioning look.
"Kol wants her," Klaus explained. "Rather, he wants her to come with us. He seems to be bored and he believes that bringing Bonnie with him will lighten things up. Personally, I think the Bennett girl is dull."
"She's my friend, Klaus," Caroline informed him as they walked to the back of the vehicle. "Besides you invited Marcel."
Klaus shrugged, "It might keep Rebekah out of our hair."
"I do not get in people's hair," Rebekah snapped from behind her brother's back who smirked.
"Yes, you do, Bekah. That is why we alternate between loving you and tolerating you," Klaus told her before turning around. He grabbed his sister around her waist and began to press sloppy kisses to her cheek, making Rebekah shriek and attempt to free herself.
"Get off me, you Louse." Rebekah shouted, attempting to pry her brother's arms off of her.
"His name is Klaus, darling," Kol called, patting Rebekah on the back and then pressing more sloppy kisses to her other cheek.
"Get off of me," Rebekah shrieked, indignantly.
Elijah got out of the passenger side of the vehicle. Walking around to the back, he shook his head. "Come now, brothers. You are embarrassing our sister in front of her dormitory. Please, set her down and allow her dignity." Klaus and Kol rolled their eyes and Klaus set Rebekah on her feet.
"Thank you, Elijah," Rebekah said, glaring at her other brothers. "At least one of my brothers understands the importance of propriety." She had no more than spoken than Elijah picked her up, throwing her over his shoulder. He then flipped her around so she was facing her now grinning brothers. Elijah lowered her so that her lower legs were hanging over his back and her shirt fell down to expose her bare stomach while she hung down. "Have at her," he told his younger brothers. "And someone get her shoes off," Elijah called. Hayley happily pulled Rebekah's heels off and Marcel came over to claim the pleasure of tickling her bare feet as Rebekah howled at the indignation she was suffering with.
After ten long minutes Elijah set Rebekah on her feet. Caroline had taken out her phone to take pictures of the moment. "I hope you all enjoyed yourselves." Narrowing her eyes at Elijah. "I hope you get fired." Turning to Kol. "I hope you can't have feeling in certain parts yourself you like so much." Whirling on Klaus, she smiled tightly. "I hope you cannot speak with that wicked tongue of yours."
Stomping off to the car, Rebekah got in and sat down in the back of the vehicle. Marcel climbed in with her. Rebekah moved as close to the door as she could get. And then climbed over Bonnie to get away from him. Kol got in and sat beside Marcel. Caroline got in the back with Hayley. Rebekah climbed over the seat to sit with her roommates.
"Don't be grumpy, Bekah," Hayley told the blonde.
"Don't speak to me. I hope you get fleas," Rebekah snapped, staring out the window. Most of the car ride was silent until they got to the house. They were greeted by the butler and Caroline recognized his voice as the man who had startled her the first time she came to the Mikaelson's which felt like ages ago now.
"Hello, everyone," Esther called, coming down with a bright smile. Mikael was walking down with his wife and smiled at them, a little too brightly.
"Hello, children and people I could care less about," Mikael called. "Welcome to my home. Again." His eyes lighted on Caroline. "Miss Forbes. You came back." He was grinning widely as he came down the stairs and took Caroline's hand, kissing the back of it. "I hope that your surgery went well for you. You seemed to have changed quite a bit since I saw you last." His eyes held a slight glint as his hand tightened, slightly on Caroline's which made Caroline feel uncomfortable.
"The surgery was a success," Caroline told him brightly, biting her tongue to stop from adding the rest of the old saying. "The patient died."
"I do hope you enjoy your stay in my home," Mikael told Caroline before walking away.
Esther frowned, watching her husband walk away. Then she turned to smile at her guests. "I will show you to your rooms." The matriarch of the Mikaelson family walked up the long staircase leading up to the wing they would be staying in for the duration of the weekend.
"And Rebekah has the nerve to complain of the stairs in other places," Hayley whispered before she smacked her leg. "I think something just bit me."
Klaus opened his mouth to reply. Then he closed it. "Mother," he called quietly. "When you're done, may I have a glass of water? Please."
Esther turned to look at Klaus as they stopped in front of his room. She pressed the back of her hand to his forehead. "You feel a tad bit warm, Niklaus. Maybe you should rest."
"Yes, Mother," Klaus whispered, looking unhappy as he walked into his room. Caroline started to follow him in with her bags.
"Caroline, dear," Esther called. "Your room is down here." She waved for Caroline to follow her farther down the hall. "You will be across the hall from Rebekah and next to Hayley." Hayley was now frowning, looking back down the hall toward Elijah's room which was across the hall from Klaus' Kol's was between Rebekah's and Klaus.' Marcel would be across the hall from Kol and in between Elijah's and Caroline's rooms. Bonnie's room would be next to Rebekah's and across from Hayley's.
No one was especially happy with the rooming arrangements except for Rebekah who closed her door in Marcel's face. "This is going to be a pleasant weekend," Marcel muttered before looking at the others. "Who's up for a game of Charades?"
Klaus popped his head out of his room and opened his mouth to say something. However, nothing came out. He closed his mouth again and then reopened it. His face turned red as he tried to scream and nothing came out.
Esther came up with the glass of water. "Niklaus," she admonished. "You are sick. You need to go to bed." Klaus' shoulders slumped as his mother turned him around and forced him to go back into his room.
"I guess we won't have the pleasure of his company tonight," Hayley exclaimed a little too happily and Caroline glared at her.
Staring back at Caroline, Hayley smiled. "Caroline, tell me that you don't want to spend just a little bit of time with someone else. Klaus has you practically every minute of every day. The rest of us want to play with you, too."
"That sounds hot," Kol said looking at the two women who rolled their eyes.
"Pig," Hayley and Caroline retorted before going over to appeal to Rebekah.
"Bekah," Caroline called. "We're going to play Charades and there will be Rocky Road ice cream and popcorn and hot chocolate with marshmallows."
"Yes and Jackass is going to dance atop the coffee table in a provocative fashion just for you, sister darling," Kol called cheerily as Rebekah let out an angry scream and they all had to duck when she flung her door open to throw a shoe at Kol's head.
"That was rude," Kol told his sister with a wide grin. "And you missed me. Now you must kiss the Jackass."
"I hate you," Rebekah began to yell when Esther came out of Klaus' room and her eyes widened.
"REBEKAH!" Esther shouted. "Stop that at once. You know better than to utter those words."
Rebekah's cheeks reddened. "I'm sorry, Mother, but you have no idea what they did to me earlier. It was utterly humiliating."
"It does not matter. You do not do that," Esther told her daughter, looking angry and Caroline was glad she was not on the receiving end of Esther's temper.
Heaving a sigh, Rebekah looked at the others. "I suppose I could come down for one game."
They began to go downstairs but Esther caught Rebekah by the arm and Caroline heard Esther whisper to her daughter. "We do not curse or put hexes on people, Rebekah. I thought I taught you better than that. Nor do we speak words which we know have the power to make come true when we are passionate enough."
"Yes, Mother," Rebekah replied as she trudged away. Caroline frowned, wondering what they had been talking about. She was unable to finish the logical progression of her thoughts before they entered the Great Room and everyone sat down.
"Charades is a boring game. I say we play twenty questions," Kol called out.
"Let's play twister," Hayley called. "You have that game around here somewhere, right?"
"Yes," Kol shouted and ran off. He appeared in less than five minutes with the game. "This is going to be glorious."
"How do we pick someone to be the referee?" Bonnie asked, looking around the group. "Because I can sit this one out."
"No!" Kol shouted and everyone turned to look at him. "I mean if you would like to do so you may. However, to make it fair I say we should allow the spinner to dictate who our referee shall be."
"Sounds fair," Elijah declared as Klaus appeared and Hayley rolled her eyes.
"Hey, are you feeling better?" Caroline questioned Klaus as he shook his head in frustration when he tried to answer her verbally and was unable to. She looked over in time to see Hayley begin to scratch the back of her leg with her foot.
Kol spun the spinner and watched it whirl around and around. When it landed on Kol. "Damn," he swore and then rolled his eyes as the others pulled off their shoes and laid the mat out. Spinning the spinner once more, Kol called out dully, "Everyone, place your right hands on the red circle."
Caroline was the first to place her hand down followed by Klaus next to her. Marcel and Rebekah reached for the same circle and were barely able to keep their hands on it. Elijah moved to place his hand down when Hayley beat him by an inch and smiled. Bonnie was the last to place her hand on an empty circle. "Elijah, you're out!" Kol called.
Elijah shrugged and walked over to watch the game proceed.
Kol flipped the spinner. "Everyone, left hand green," Kol called and everyone groaned as they leaned over to place their hands across the mat. Caroline was now positioned with her rear end in Klaus' face. Marcel was leaning over Rebekah who was breathing harder. Hayley seemed fairly comfortable. Bonnie looked a little unhappy as she stretched both arms out.
Kol flipped the spinner again. "Everyone, place your right foot on the blue circle." Caroline gracefully moved her foot to the blue circle. Klaus growled slightly as he and Caroline's bodies came closer together and he had thoughts that had nothing to do with the game.
Marcel and Rebekah placed their feet precariously on the circle and tried to not look at each other.
Hayley moved her foot over and kicked Bonnie off the mat. "Shit, sorry, Bonnie." She called.
"Thank you," Bonnie replied, getting up to sit on the couch.
"Everyone, please move your left foot to the yellow circle," Kol called, feeling delighted as everyone on the mat groaned before placing their left feet on the yellow circles.
Kol laughed, staring at everyone. "Spin the blasted thing, you little troll." Rebekah demanded, glaring at her brother between her and Marcel's legs.
Kol peered down at her and laughed before spinning. "Ladies, please, place your right feet on the green." Rebekah, Caroline and Hayley placed their right feet on the green circles.
"Gentlemen, place your left hands on the blue circles," Kol called and Klaus and Marcel placed their hands where they were directed to place them.
"Klaus, place you right foot on that yellow circle behind Caroline," Kol called.
"Kol, that is not how you play the game," Elijah protested.
"I don't care. Besides, it was getting boring. And it looks more fun this way." Kol's eyes glowed as he looked at his victims. "Everyone place your hands on -"
"Children," Esther called from the doorway. "We have more guests."
Everyone turned to look up with varying looks of shock, horror and amusement. "Stefan informed me that he was here to speak with Caroline. His brother and his brother's girlfriend are here as well." Esther seemed to be thinking about things as she headed over to the window and peered outside. "There was the mention of a storm passing through. It might be rather difficult to drive back. You might want to stay here this evening. We have two more rooms one the wing that your friends are staying in."
"Thank you, Mrs. Mikaelson," Damon stated with a wide grin as Caroline and then Klaus stood up.
"Caroline. Klaus. You're out," Kol called. "Now, it's all up to Hayley, Strumpet and the Jackass."
"Stop calling me a damn Jackass," Marcel yelled.
"Call him Marcie," Caroline called, absently staring at Stefan. Then she looked at Klaus whose face was red and he took a step toward Stefan.
"Thank you for your offer, Mrs. Mikaelson. But I'm not sure we'll be here that long," Stefan told Esther, ignoring Klaus.
"Nonsense, I will not have you risking your lives in this weather," Esther told Stefan.
Sighing, Caroline turned to Klaus. "I'm going to talk to Stefan alone for a couple of minutes. Please, don't get the wrong idea." She pleaded after Esther left the room.
Klaus opened his mouth and then closed it with a groan. Wrapping his arms around Caroline he kissed her with more passion than he would have ordinarily in front of others, sliding his tongue into her mouth and drawing her body as close to his as he could with their clothing on. Pulling away, he kissed her forehead and then took a step back.
Staring at Klaus regretfully, Caroline walked over to Stefan and led him down one hall to a wing of the house she had never been in before. Knocking on a door, she opened it and then walked inside. Seeing no one in the room, she closed it behind her. "Okay, Stef, what's going on?"
Stefan looked at her seriously. "I left after the kiss because I didn't want to make you uncomfortable. However, there are things I heard on the road about this family, whose roof you're under right now."
"Like what?" Caroline asked, folding her arms over her chest.
"How much do you know about the Mikalesons'? And have you not questioned how they have amassed so much wealth?" Stefan questioned Caroline, who shifted uncomfortably. "Or why not just one of them but two are teaching at your school? Doesn't that seem like more than just luck or coincidence?"
Caroline shrugged, "Their father is a business man."
"And their mother works at a local college," Stefan shook his head. "There's more to it. Rumor has it that Mikael Mikaelson has his hand deep in the supernatural world, controlling quite a bit of that world. The other rumor is that Esther Mikaleson is a powerful witch, who rules by his side. I heard she is deep in the dark arts, Care. Between the two of them, they could destroy the whole college. Maybe the town of Mystic Falls, as well."
Shaking her head, Caroline scoffed, "Stefan, someone obviously is jealous of the Mikaelson's success is all. If you will excuse me, I need to get back to my boyfriend." As Caroline pulled the door open, she jumped back as she nearly ran into Mikael.
"Did you two get lost?" Mikael asked them with a wide grin that reminded Caroline of a dog baring its teeth before it bites.
"We just needed to talk privately for a moment," Stefan answered for them both.
Mikael turned to look at Stefan, his eyes narrowing. "Next time I would suggest that you use a different wing. This one is off limits to nonfamily members. One day, Caroline, you will receive entry. But I do not believe that that invitation will be extended to you," he stated glaring at Stefan." Now, please, leave."
Stefan and Caroline hurried down the hall with Stefan giving Caroline a pointed look as a door was closed. "Just shut up," Caroline snapped. She wasn't sure what was going on. But she had the whole weekend to find out.
Catalinaheart: I can't answer the question about Klaus yet… What I will say is that by the end of the next chapter there will be major clue that will reveal yet another huge twist in the story that will probably leave you with more questions than answers. As for Caroline how it is possible that she is a hybrid will be answered in chapter 18, "Things my Father Never Told Me."
MissDK: Klaus and Caroline have so many problems that it is not funny and they have to work through each one as new ones sprout up.
Pleasesaycaroline: Thank you, I'm trying to stay true to the Klaus that we know and love while trying to explore what he would be like as a human who was born in the last twenty years.
Guest: I promise there is still a bit of Elijah and Hayley and I will try to include more of them after I start writing new chapters, post-chapter thirty. I know that's like forever from now but I also have a Haylijah story in the works for my first Originals story that I plan on posting the first chapter of sometime in May.
Rose: Can't answer that. You'll just have to stay tuned to find out. I have a fondness for writing and reading stories in which Caroline and Damon are friends.
Thank you for reading, faving, following and reviewing: Catalinaheart, Miss DK, pleasesaycaroline, Guest, redbudrose and Preru.
Peace,
