Church
The priest sighs for the hundredth time in the last ten minutes.
This was hands down the most peculiar wedding he'd ever attended.
The church was empty except for him and the couple. Not because the couple didn't want their friends with them but because they wanted this to be their moment alone. They would have another ceremony and a party too but today it was only the two of them, which he actually found kind of a good idea. If more people wed like that surely a lot of stress could be avoided in his opinion.
But everything else…
Normally the engaged couple was all sweet and shy and lovey-dovey but those two… He wasn't sure if they were actually marrying each other or if this was some kind of weird game or duel. It was very disturbing.
And adorable.
Somehow.
In a very weird way.
If only they'd stop interrupting each other in their vows. The poor man just wanted to tell them the vows so that they could repeat them after him but they keep adding and correcting things to them for their own benefit.
He clears his throat and tries to continue with a calm voice. "… To have and to hold, from this day forward…"
"I already do that."
"Just repeat it, Seto."
The brown haired man, Seto actually rolls his eyes before they both repeat it.
"… To have and to hold, from this day forward…"
"…for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer…"
"For richer…" The other with the strange hair laughs and this time Seto scolds him.
"You just told me to only repeat what he said and now you don't do it either, Atem."
There is a short break and which they exchange a look the priest is unable to understand but then they repeat.
"…for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer…"
"In sickness and in health…"
"Only if you vow to never make me this soup ever again when I'm sick!"
"You're not even letting me in the kitchen anymore how could I make it?"
"Uhm, Gentlemen."
"… "
"…"
"In sickness and in health…"
"In sickness and in health…"
"Until death do us part."
The smaller man, Atem snorts softly and Seto shoots the priest a look as if he'd just said the most ridiculous, small-minded thing that ever came over the lips of a human being. He looks back at his fiancé and raises his eyebrow, before they start whispering heatedly. The priest doesn't understand every word but he hears completely unnecessary and profane and ludicrous and for a moment he thinks Seto will just turn and leave. But then Atem chuckles, squeezes his hand and turns to smile at the priest with these remarkable violet eyes of his.
"We can just skip that part." He says and the priest exhaustedly gives up in sticking to any tradition when he sees Atem winking at Seto who nods back approvingly. He just wants to get this over with.
"Great." He priest shakes his head and holds out his hand with their rings on it. "Then take your rings and put them on your partner's finger."
Seto all but snatches the rings out of the slightly shocked priest's hand to finally put it on Atem's finger. He takes Atem's right hand and places the ring at the finger, ready to put it on and if the priest hadn't noticed the slight trembling of his hands and the way his breathing had gotten faster he would have thought this Seto wasn't nervous or happy at all. But now he even casts a last reassuring look at Atem as if he expects him to vanish into thin air in the next second or something and swallows hard before he finally starts to push the ring down Atem's finger.
"No!"
The priest is just as shocked as Seto when Atem stops him and he can see his eyes grow wide in shock. It seems like his whole world is breaking apart behind his aloof façade but Atem is fast to put his other hand into Seto's who just stares open-mouthed at his smiling face.
"The left hand, Seto."
"The lef…" He brings out with a hoarse voice and then squints his eyes shut and shakes his head as if he'd get rid of his initial shock in that way and then just stares Atem down. "Does is even matter?"
"Of course it does!" Atem defends, obviously unaware of Seto's predicament while the priest looks between them. "There's a vein in the left ring finger that goes straight to the heart!"
Seto blinks at him, astonished at first but then raises his eyebrow again. "Are you serious?"
"You can take your right hand if you want but I want the ring on my left hand, thank you."
This makes Seto groan and he literally shoves the ring on Atem's finger. "There. Happy now?"
"Yes." Atem answers and then takes a closer look at the ring on his finger. "Very."
He looks back into Seto's eyes and they both stare at each other as if only now realizing what they are doing here and that they are married now. There's the faintest blush on both their faces, the smallest smile plays around their slightly parted lips and the priest is sure that they didn't notice how they both took a step closer to each other.
He sees that Atem moves his mouth and says something and although it comes out soundless it obviously sparks something in Seto.
He reaches out for Atem and lifts him up so fast that the priest can't follow the movement with his eyes. Seto hugs him close and they kiss so longingly and passionately and relieved that the priest simply stares at them. He had his doubts during the ceremony but it is obvious in the way they cling to each other, in the way Seto has his arms around Atem's body so protectively, in the way Atem that they are exactly where they should be.
"Say it again." Seto demands right after they ended their kiss, both completely ignorant of the fact that the priest still stands there and his hands wander down Atem's back. "And say it loud."
Atem chuckles, takes his face into his hands and kisses him once more before he leans back and screams at the top of his lungs. "I love you."
The priest gasps and gives a start but they both just laugh and touch their foreheads to each other.
"Do you…" He starts and smiles unsure at them when they don't show any sign of recognition towards him. "Do you want your other ring too?"
Without taking his eyes away from Seto, Atem reaches for the ring and grabs it from the priest's hand. "Will you take your hands off my ass for a second so I can put this ring on your finger?"
"For once." Seto smirks and holds up his right hand, careful not to drop Atem, who puts the ring on his finger, slowly and deliberately as if making sure they really belong to each other now.
They kiss once more and the priest opens his mouth to announce their marriage when he gets interrupted one more time.
"We're done here, right?"
"Uhm…" The priest starts but Seto has already started to walk back the aisle with Atem still in his arms and the man just gives it up and sighs loudly. "Yeah, you are. Congratulations." He calls after them as they disappear through the church door and he has to shield his eyes from the glaring light for a moment.
He breathes out long and relieved as the door closes again, then shakes his head and laughs.
"Well at least this story ended in light."
