Chapter 12: "Letting Yourself Be Wooed…"
Cake On Your Face…
"So I'm serious Olivia," Fitz whispered back in her ear. "When do I get to un-wrap you? You would be the gift that would keep getting better." He was holding her hand, not letting her get more than an arm-length from his grasp. He has hardly seen her since Emmalynn's party, and he ached to be in her presence in ALL ways possible.
"Mr. President," Olivia giggled back, attempting to keep her composure. They were in a room filled with his kids, Emmalynn, Cyrus and James. They were about to cut into his cake. Karen beckoned for her Dad to come over and do the honors. "That would be beyond inappropriate. Plus we are STILL not dating."
"So say YES right now Olivia to go out with me, and that will solve that problem. All you have to do is say YES. You know you want to." Fitz whispered in her ear as they walked over to his cake. His baritone voice was sending shivers down her spine into her toes. How he was talking to her, the drop in his voice, was causing the air on her neck to twinge.
"Ah, Fitz" was all she could say back. His hand was going up the back of her shirt. She turned and glared at him and popped his hand away. He pouted and took his hand away. The places his hand touched her, left her skin tingling. She shrugged it off and went to stand with the kids.
She watched Fitz cut into his cake, and the realization hit his face that she made it. Karen and Jerry mentioned what his favorite cake flavor happened to be, and she made it this morning. She used whipped icing, in his favorite colors of blue and shades of purple- blue because it was HIS favorite and PURPLE because it was hers. (And because she remembered him in her lavender towel.)
"Livy, you made my cake?" Fitz asked, as he began to hand out pieces.
"Yes." He was about to ask her how, but she stopped him. "That is one secret you will have to find out later. Now try a bite and hush."
Fitz grinned like a kid in a candy store. He bit into the most delectable piece of chocolate cake and frosting to go with it in the world. Olivia watched the smile reach beyond his eyes, and him moan as he let the cake flavors melt in his mouth. It didn't help that as he was eating all she could think of was "sexy" thoughts.
"Mumma, cake please," said Emmalynn, knocking her out of her daydream. Olivia nodded to her and gave her a small piece. Emmalynn walked up and sat in Pappa Cy's lap. She heard him complain about not getting covered in cake, causing her to laugh.
"Get over it Cyrus," she teased.
"Yadda. Yadda," Cy bellowed back, letting Emmalynn feed him cake. She went and sat down next to Jerry, who was about to go back for piece number two. Jerry inhaled the first piece so quickly that, she was shocked he did not get a stomach ache.
"Hungry," Olivia bugged him.
"Liv the chefs in the White House SERIOUSLY need to take lessons. This is the best cake ever." Jerry said, kissing on the cheek and walking off.
Fitz promptly stood up and sat down in his spot next to Olivia. She began laughing when Jerry saw him steal his spot. "You know your son may want that spot back."
"Tough. I am sitting next to the best baker this side of the Mississippi," added some southern twang to his words. "I ain't going nowhere."
Olivia broke out in the biggest fit of giggles. "That is not the appropriate language for a world leader Sir."
"Well you'll just have to teach me how to do it right now won't you Miss Pope. You'll have to teach my tongue how to go south." Olivia about choked on her piece of cake, as it went down her throat. She turned and stared at Fitz, feeling her cheeks turn crimson red, at his comment.
Knowing he definitely got to her, he leaned over in her ear. He kissed her cheek, leaving a vanilla frosting mark on her face. "Fitz you got frosting on my face! I don't have a napkin to wipe it off either," she chastised. She was about to get up and get one but he stopped her.
He leaned over with his napkin in his hand, ready to clean her face, but stopped. She watched his pupils darken, and feared he was up to no good. He placed the napkin on her face, missing the frosting entirely. She could feel it there, and tried to get the napkin away from him.
Karen saw him and yelled. "Do you need your glasses Daddy?"
"No I do not!" Fitz scolded, looking at Olivia with hooded eyes.
"Give me the napkin Fitz."
"No," he voiced point blank. "You want this, come and get it."
He excused himself and Olivia. They were going to get ice cream for the cake. He grabbed her hand, and led her with his cake, the napkin, down to the kitchen at the end of the hall. The moment they got inside, he locked the door.
"Fitz where's the ice cream?" Olivia asked looking around.
"In the freezer, over there," he pointed out. She walked by the table, and he immediately stopped her, pulling her into his chest. "Olivia Pope, I believe you still have frosting on your face I need to remove."
"Oh, you don't say. What are you going to do – use your superpowers?" She bit her lip, looking at him with eyes filled with desire. "You say you have them, but I haven't experienced them yet."
Then without warning, he picked her up, and placed her on the table. She was high off the ground, and when he walked forward, both their hips were now level. Olivia bit her inner lip, signaling to Fitz how nervous she was. She tried not to look down, but could not stop her eyes from wandering.
When she realized he "wanted" her as much as she did him, she knew she was in trouble. She tried to move back on the table, but he was too quick and pulled her into his pelvis. She gasped for air, feeling his hands go behind her. His hands lifted up the back of her sweater, so he could place his hands on the lower part of her back.
She looked down at his chest at first, unable to meet his eyes. Olivia then closed her eyes, as she felt his breath of the top of her head. He was so close, that her hairs were moving. She felt him breathe in her shampoo and conditioner and then rest his head on her own. "God you smell good," he moaned, as he touched her.
"So do you," she got out.
Gradually he pulled her ever so closer, holding onto her. She closed her eyes and snuggled her head closer to him. His heart was pounding against his chest- mimicking the same rhythm as hers. Fitz than ran and his hands up and down the bare skin on her back. It was what they both needed, to calm their emotions and desire down.
She finally whimpered out, "I missed you Fitz." Fitz let out a calming breath, soothing her immediately. "I not only came home because I didn't want to miss your birthday, but I came home TO YOU."
Fitz encased her in his arms even tighter. "Livy, I missed you too. God did I ever. No more long separations okay. I don't think I can do it again."
He heard her make the "Ah huh" sound in his chest. She finally pulled away and saw a big spot of frosting in his chest. "Oh shit," she squealed out.
"Huh," he looked down and saw the frosting. He chuckled, shook his head, not once letting his eyes leave hers. He reached behind her to his plate of cake, finally picking up the napkin. He used it to clean her face, leaving a trail of it to her lips.
"Fitzgerald," she scolded. "You did that on purpose." The twinkle in his eyes was unmistakable, and when she thought she could not desire this man any more, he licked his lips. Her mouthed dropped open, coming to the realization THIS MAN was going to be the death of her.
"I did no such thing. That frosting wiped off precisely the way it was supposed to," he mischievously uttered back.
"Oh really," she scoffed. "Napkin please."
"No!"
"No?" And before she could reach for it, he grabbed her hands and placed them on his chest. Now his heart was beating quickly again. "DO NOT move your hands. Keep them right there."
She nodded, and could not say anything else. He stared into her chocolate eyes, completely spellbound. Never in his life, did he ever begin to imagine that two pairs of eyes, could pull him in like a bee to a rose. She let her legs dangle around his waist, resisting the urge to wrap them around his body.
Her breath hitched when she felt Fitz reach up and caress her frosting cover cheek with his thumb. There was no pressure in his touch. It was light and feathery, causing raging fire in her stomach. She then saw Fitz take the frosting on his finger and place it in his mouth. His tongue surrounded his finger, making her mouth water for him to do it in other places.
"Fitz," she whimpered. He raised his eyes at her, still not saying at word.
"Say yes," he leaned forward, and whispered against her face.
"Yes to what," she toyed back. Of course she knew what he wanted an answer to. He's been asking her, since the morning he woke up at her apartment.
"Fitz," she closed her eyes, as she felt his lips descent on her cheek. His lips were soft, sensual, and perfect. God he's kissed her like this before, or has he. Before she could say anything else, Fitz let the tip of tongue touch her cheek. Her breathing shortened drastically making her pant as he licked the frosting SLOWLY off her cheek.
"I know you WANT me Olivia," he groaned, as his kisses when lowered. He looked down and saw the valley in between the "V" in her sweater. The longer he lingered his tongue on her skin, the more her chest moved. "God you're gorgeous. All you have to say Livy is that your mine; right here and now."
"But," she was falling apart at his seduction.
"I want you, not just physically," Fitz whispered against her skin. He heard her squeak. "But I want all of you. I am not only attracted to your body, but you mind, your heart, and your soul. I know you feel this too."
Fitz began working his way to the other side of her face, repeating the same movements with his lips and tongue against her skin. He could feel her fighting the urge to lift her legs up around his waist. He ran his legs, against her thighs, loving how even in these pants, her legs felt so incredible.
In her haze, he was creating, she got out, "How do you know THIS will work?"
He finally pulled away and took her face in his hands. Olivia slowly calmed down, and was trying to hide how much THIS scared her. She lost one man she loved to the country he loved and protected, could she lose another. Fitz sensed her fears, because he feared the same. He almost died a year ago, and the thought of putting her and Emmalynn through that broke his heart.
"THIS has to work Livy," he murmured, never letting his eyes leave her own. "I can't DO THIS without out. I always thought I could do anything, be anyone I wanted to be. Little did I know, that would all change the moment I met you. You changed me. You ARE my endgame- my lifeline- my soul-mate."
"I am," she cried out.
"Yes. But most of all YOU ARE MY BEST FRIEND. I can tell you anything. I never had this type of connection to anyone, until I found you. I know you think WE aren't ready for THIS but we are. I don't have to take you out publically if you don't want me to," he voiced full of hope, "trust me I will though."
/
"Two Hearts = One Minute…"
"Fitz," she giggled. "You can't just take me out a PUBLIC date."
"Oh I can. And I will. I guarantee you that." Fitz told her with conviction in his voice. "But I WANT US to be together. I am tired of putting my life on hold for this country. I was with the wrong woman for almost two decades. I wasted my life with Mellie. I DO NOT want to waste any more time. Nothing will happen to me," hoping to restore confidence in her.
She started to move of the table, and Fitz let her down. "Fitz, I won't survive if something happens to you. We ARE already in too deep. God I've known you less time than I knew Christopher, and I didn't feel for him, even close to what I feel for you. When he died, leaving me and Emmy behind, I didn't know how to go on."
"I am not going anywhere," he softly spoke. "NO ONE is taking me away from you, my children and Emmalynn. I won't let it."
"Christopher said that too. He promised he would come home to me and Emmalynn- that he wouldn't leave me to raise OUR little girl alone. He was due to come home in a few days when he was killed Fitz. In less than 48 hours he would have been home. He offered to do that last mission- that got him taken away from us."
"Livy," he walked towards her, because she was beginning to break down.
"No, stay there," she pleaded. "If you touch me I'm gone." Fitz raised his eyes. "Last year when you were shot, I cried."
"Liv," he breathed out in disbelief. "But you didn't know me then."
"No I didn't. But I was so worried about you, and I didn't know you like I do now. All I could think about was how hard it was on your kids to see you that way. How hard it was on Mellie? Cyrus, James, EVERYONE who knew you. My heart ached for your family and I didn't KNOW you."
Fitz was trying not break down, but it was not working. He leaned against the table, doing his best to hold in the wave of emotions she was bringing to the surface. "Liv I made it though. I'm here. I survived that shooting so I could find you. My Security since then as changed. No one is going to hurt me. I prom…"
"You can't promise me that Fitz. This is a promise you CANNOT make. You ARE the President of the United States and gets death threats all the time. ANYTHING could happen to you. Hell you could slip and fall in the shower," she rambled out.
"Olivia," Fitz began to walk to her. She was beginning to pace. If he didn't stop her, Fitz would lose her to her sadness. When she turned around, he was right behind her, and he wrapped his arms around her body. She began to shake, letting her fears of losing him, finally show.
"I can't lose you too. I lost one man I loved dearly protecting this country…," she stammered. Fitz eyes widened, but she didn't pull away from him. Plus he wouldn't let her.
"Livy," he whispered against her face. He tried to talk but she stopped him. She placed her fingers against his lips, to silence him.
"I can't lose the other man that I LOVE too." She placed both hands on his face. Her eyes locked, and both were lost. Fitz picked her up and squeezed her tiny body with everything he had. She placed her head on his shoulders and let him embrace her small body. She cried into his arms, letting her tears soak into his clothing.
Fitz pressed his face into her neck, letting his own love for her come out. He whispered in her ear, "Ditto."
She pulled away, and gave him a dirty look. "Seriously, Fitzgerald."
"What," playing coy.
"You're terrible," she got out, before she began to laugh. "I just admitted…," but he stopped her when he began placing kisses all over her face, making her forget why she was upset at him momentarily. "I hate you."
"I hate you too," Fitz shot back, not missing a beat. He knew that she meant the other. "Come one let's go bring everyone napkins and ice scream."
She nodded okay, and they went upstairs, and rejoined the party. Emmalynn ran into Fitz's arms, and pulled him over to open his gifts. He loved everything. Both the two things he loved the most were Emmalynn's "Sophia" picture frame of Olivia, him, Karen and Jerry from her birthday party, and Olivia's gift.
Olivia went to Kay Jewelers and found a watch by Jane Seymour. On its face in black you could see the standard "Open Hearts" symbol. It was the center of the time piece. Olivia motioned for him to turn it over and it said, "Two Open Hearts = One Minute."
He looked up and saw Olivia blush. Fitz put it down and gave her a huge hug in front of everyone. She buried her face in his chest, trying to hide her embarrassment. "You're in trouble Miss Pope."
"Whatever," she said pinching his butt, when she walked away. He took his old watch off and placed hers on his wrist.
Cyrus came up to him as the party was ending a while later. "It's nice Sir. Take care of them. They need you."
"I will Cy. But she still hasn't said yes. I tried. She is really making me work for it," he said smiling at her as she walked away to see the kids.
"Mr. President, things that we work HARD for are invaluable and precious to us later. Woo her, romance her, show her that despite everything what you two could have is worth it." Cyrus told him, holding Ella.
Fitz just stared at him. "Wow Cy, I never took for the romantic type."
"You're right I'm not but it's what she deserves. Losing Emmy's Dad destroyed her for a long time. To see Olivia here with you, THIS HAPPY is something I thought I would never see again. And she will say yes. But NO….," Cyrus was ready to scold Fitz.
/
"Don't Leave Me…"
"I know…sleepovers." Cy rolled his eyes, gathered Ella and James and went home. By now it was late, and Olivia had to get Emmalynn home and in bed. Fitz did not want her to leave, but knew it was best if they made it home. They had not been home in a while, and he figured she had a lot to do.
He looked outside and saw that the snow had not let up. Tom came into the room and told him that the roads were not good. Tom then stood in front of the door, not allowing anyone to leave. Cyrus, Ella and James were shown to one of the nine bedrooms so they could spend the night.
"Mummy, we go home now?" Emmalynn asked Olivia. Olivia looked over and saw Tom talking to Fitz.
"I don't know honey." She went and walked to the window and looked outside at the falling snow. Since getting back, and into the White House, the snow fall had increased. It was coming down fairly heavy. She had Emmalynn go and sit with Karen and Jerry who were watching TV.
She walked up to Fitz, and heard them say that Cy, James and Ella went down the hall to get ready for bed. "Fitz what's going on?"
"The roads are really bad Livy. It looks like you and Emmalynn are here with me and the kids tonight. Tom just informed me that the storm track turned and we are getting heavier snow than expected. I guess you and Emmalynn got here just in time. The Department Of Transportation does not want anyone on the roads unless it's necessary. It's not going to stop snowing until tomorrow morning."
"Fitz," she tried to say but he shushed her by running his fingers across her cheeks.
"Olivia," he sternly voiced. "YOU and Emmalynn are staying here. There is no way in HELL I am letting you drive home in this weather."
"But," she protested.
"I don't care what anyone says. I am not letting you leave. I know you were raised to drive in this, but you are not leaving. Please do this for me Livy." His eyes were growing wet, and all he could do was pray she would stay. Olivia began to open her mouth, but in front of everyone, he pulled her into his arms.
"Emmy and I will be fine. This weather does not scare me." She told him, hoping to ease his fear that something could happen.
He wrapped his arms around her tighter. She could feel his body, beginning to shake. The kids watched him and told Emmalynn that their Dad was worried about the weather. He wanted them here at the White House. Fitz leaned down and kissed her forehead, then nuzzling his face against hers, needing the skin to skin contact.
Fitz let one tear escape and Olivia felt it on his face. "Don't leave me. Please stay," he murmured into her face. He didn't say anything else and just held her body close to his chest. He felt her nod a "yes" and hugged her even tighter.
"No funny business Fitzgerald," she whispered.
"Wouldn't dream of it," he teased her back. They faced Emmalynn and said that they would be spending the night in the White House. Emmalynn jumped for joy and ran into both their arms. She then announced she wanted to sleep in Karen's room. Karen said it was fine enjoying the fact that she was staying.
Fitz looked at Tom and the agents went down to Cy's car to retrieve their things. Since she brought everything with her from her trip home, it was not an issue for clothes. Tom came back a while later, and told Fitz that everything was set up for them to stay. Cyrus was informed of course and rolled his eyes to James in their room.
Karen took Emmalynn into her room and they made a bed up for her. Olivia asked her if she was okay and Emmalynn told her, "I am big girl. I'm good."
"Yes you are," Olivia said to her back. "You want me to stay till you fall asleep?"
"No. Karen stay with me," Emmalynn asked looking at Karen on her bed. Karen said yes, and Emmalynn crawled up in bed with her. Jerry came in to say goodnight, and made sure to kiss Emmalynn. He told her if she needed anything to come and get him in the middle of the night because Karen snores.
"I DO NOT!" Karen bellowed at him and threw a pillow at him. The next thing Olivia knew a huge pillow fight erupted in Karen's room between Jerry and the girls. Fitz came by the room hearing all the noise. He walked in and was bombarded with pillows.
"Hey," Fitz protested.
"Sorry Dad, but Jerry told Em and Olivia that I snore." Karen whined.
"Well you do," Fitz said, not missing a beat.
"Hey," Karen screeched, sending another pillow his way. Olivia some-how snuck up behind him and tackled him down on the air mattress. She did her best to hold him down and Jerry came and helped her out. Emmalynn and Karen came over and tickled him so much that he was crying.
When they finally stopped he sat up, pulling Olivia to him. "I AM GOING TO GET YOU."
"I look forward to it Mr. President," she seductively voiced. She heard him moan, as she got up off his lap. Once the kids calmed down, Olivia kissed Emmalynn goodnight, and told Karen and Jerry she would see them in the morning. Fitz put his hand out for her to take, and they walked out of the room.
He led her through the residence, to HIS room. She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw where he took her. He tried to move her from the door but she was sticking to it like glue. "Oh no, you don't," he seductively told her, and picked her up, with her head over his shoulders.
"Fitz," she squealed and tried to wiggle out of his arms.
"No!"
"I can't sleep in here with you. This is not where I belong. I thought my bags where somewhere else. If Karen wasn't with Emmalynn, I would be with her."
"They were but I moved them in here," he blushed. "I don't want to sleep without you. Please?"
"Fitz you know we can't," she tried to say but he stopped her.
"Yes we can. Last time I checked I wasn't married and neither are you. I know this is MY room but I want you here."
"But this is where," Olivia tried to get out, but he placed three fingers over her lips to quite her.
"NO, Mellie did not sleep in here with me," Fitz explained in the hope she would agree. "Mellie and I had not been together in this bed any way, shape or form. We had been having problems for a long time. If I slept in here, she was down the hall or vice versa. This is MY room and I want you in here. But if you are that," Fitz began to explain further but this time she stopped him.
"I'll stay," she whispered out so soft that Fitz wasn't sure he heard her the first time.
"What?"
"I'll stay," she said louder, feeling herself become embarrassed. "But before the kids wake up, YOU have to be on the couch. Karen, Jerry and Emmalynn are not going to see us sleeping in this bed together. We will have pajamas on, and no FUNNY business. You got it. We are just going to sleep," she told him in a tone that told Fitz she was not messing around.
"Yes Ma'am," he happily replied. "As long as you are in my arms all night, I can handle that." She squinted, watching Fitz's face, trying not to laugh. She was good until he said, "Scout's honor."
"God you're terrible," she pinched him as she walked away to change. He went and changed into his night clothes too. He was finished first and had not seen her come out of the bathroom yet. He decided to cheek on the kids down the hall. Jerry was reading, and Karen and Emmalynn were curled up in her bed, sleeping. He kissed the girls good night and Karen woke up briefly.
"Dad," she whispered.
"Yah," he quietly came back over to her.
"I really like having Liv and Emmy here. I hope we can do this more often," Karen felt Emmalynn shift and cuddle up to her.
"I do to." Fitz said back. "Night Kar-Bear."
"Night Dad," Karen said back. Before Fitz left the room, he looked one more time at the girls. Both were back asleep.
He went into his room and Olivia was already crawled in his bed. The only light that was on was from the bathroom, so he could see. Fitz quietly walked up to where she was and sat in front of her. She had the comforter scrunched up by her face, and she was curled up in the little ball.
Fitz then realized that he never slept really on that side of the bed, and remembered that this is where she always slept the last time they shared a bed. This would be the third time, and he was happy it was finally at the White House. He watched her breath in and out a few more times before walking to his side and crawling in behind her.
She sighed when she felt Fitz's arm, slide underneath, pulling her close. She rolled over, and placed her head on his chest. Fitz couldn't help himself, and raised the back of her shirt, and ran his hands up and down her skin. Olivia made the most adorable sound, as she felt his hand massage her skin.
Olivia lifted her chin up and nuzzled her face into Fitz's neck. She left it there a few more moments before resting on his shoulder. He lifted her chin up, and watched her sleeping face. She looked beyond gorgeous. He traced her facial features with his fingers. From her forehead, her high cheek bones, adorable nose – he loved to kiss, and finally her luscious lips.
He traced them with his finger tips, and ached to press his lips to hers. GOD did he want to, but would she wake up. Fitz thought back to Emmalynn's birthday and how he spooked her away from kissing him that morning. He wanted Olivia more than anything, and thinking back, he wished he allowed her to.
Fitz than ran his thumb along her lips. Instinctively he watched her lips curl up into a smile, as he touched them. "Livy," he whispered, sweetly.
"Mmmm," she sighed in her sleep.
"Can I kiss you," he asked in her ear. "Please."
He watched her lips curl into a smile, hoping that was a 'yes." Fitz took in a breath, leaned his face down on top of hers. Their noses were touching and he could feel her breath on his face. She was breathing deeply, and he knew she was sleeping. He swallowed quickly, afraid that she would wake up, and push him away.
He closed his eyes, placed a hand on her cheek, and painstakingly closed the final distance between their lips. He lightly kissed her, lingering his lips a few moments, then pulled away. He hoped she would have woken up, to get a kiss back, but Olivia was so tired he assumed that she didn't move.
Instead he hovered above her, watching her sleep. "Why can't I get enough of you," he said out loud. "Next time that happens Livy, you will be awake. I'm not holding back anymore. You and I are going to be together. I will show you that WE can work. I want you and I am going to EARN you. I can't live without you."
Olivia rolled into his chest, snuggling herself directly on top his heart. In her sleep she voiced, "Yes Mr. President," causing Fitz to crack a smile.
"Gosh you're adorable," he expressed softly. He said her name a few times, and when she barely moved, he knew she was talking in her sleep. "You ARE MINE, Livy – MINE! And when we wake up tomorrow, I swear THINGS WILL BE DIFFERENT."

"Wooing You …" 1 week later 12-13-13
Since Fitz's birthday, both the 1st family, Olivia and Emmalynn had been extremely busy. The White House of course had all the Christmas trees up and decorated, and Olivia and Emmalynn had put theirs up. Fitz and the kids were able to come over the a few days after the roads cleared and helped them decorate it. In the residence Olivia and Emmalynn helped Fitz and the kids also.
Olivia felt different after spending the night with Fitz in the White House. She was still afraid to say "Yes," but over the last two weeks Fitz was up on his game. Every day something showed up for her and Emmalynn. At first it was a type of winter flower, and something equally adorable for Emmalynn. Fitz did this for the week.
"He's wooing you," Abby teased.
"Abby," Olivia said to her.
"What he is," Abby grinned. Olivia folded her arms and looked at her. Abby then shot back, "Jeepers creepers Liv look around your office and apartment. For the last week, he's been sending you something either here or at your apartment. Heck, look at Emmalynn's room. She has every shade of pink or purple flower from him. Hell he's not just wooing you; he's going after Emmy too."
"Abby he's just being sweet," she shyly replied, covering herself.
"Ah huh," Abby bugged her. "Liv, this man is taking "sweet" to a whole new level. You still haven't agreed to go out with him yet have you? That is why he's doing this. He's EARING you."
"Oh come on. I told I would say yes eventually. Abby I don't know if I'm ready. I just won't be dating Fitz. Hell it will be like I'm dating the whole country," she blurted out, finally sitting down.
"Liv come on. Since Christopher died, you haven't let anyone into your heart. It's time. Everyone here at OPA see how happy Fitz makes you. That man is your Saving Grace. He's let you open yourself up again to be loved in a way that Chris was not able to do while he was alive. Fitz can give you and Emmalynn a life. All you have to do is let him."
"But," Olivia tried to say but then Stephen came into the room.
"Bloody Hell Liv," he voiced. "Abby is right. Say YES to be with him. God he's head over heels for you and Emmy already." Stephen sat down next to her now.
"Guys I don't know if I can," Olivia voiced in frustration. "I have to think of Emmy too. This is NOT just about me, this is about her too."
"Then talk to her Liv. You are her mother. She may be only three but she's a very smart three. She adores her 'Fiz,' and so do you. That man can give you the life you deserve. You've earned it."
She got up and walked to the window in her office and glanced outside. She saw the White House and the massive Christmas tree out front. Olivia then smiled how Fitz had her and Emmalynn brought over for the lighting. He has included them in every Christmas celebration over there, making them feel wanted and welcome.
"But what about," she whimpered out.
"Christopher's family," Stephen then said. "They have hardly wanted anything to do with you or Emmalynn since his death. Yes I know his mom is trying and that's good. But you all know how we all feel about his Dad."
Abby got up and walked to the window with her. She knew what was wrong. "You still haven't told Fitz anything about Christopher's family have you? He still does not know who he was, or who his parents are?"
Olivia leaned against the window, closing her eyes. She nodded no. "I haven't brought it up yet. I know I need to tell him but I can't just yet. I am seeing Christopher's mom after the holidays. She's already sent Emmalynn's gifts to my apartment. I got them the other day. I guess his Dad was out of town on business so she was able to shop, and get everything wrapped before he got home."
"Oh so Rumpelstiltskin is out of town, which means Grandma can shop for their only grandchild? How convenient for her? I wonder what else she does when Rumple is out of town," Abby sneered, with her voice full of venom.
"Abby those are Emmalynn's grandparents." Olivia corrected. "There is no need for name calling."
"Bull Shit Liv. Rumpelstiltskin is the name YOU came up with for Chris's dad because of how nasty he was to you when you and Chris got together. He didn't like you because of your race. Only after he found about Emmalynn and Chris stood up to him, did he calm down. Hell the man still blames you for Chris's death."
She knew Abby was right, and slumped her head down. "Abby he just doesn't blame for Christopher dying. You know that."
"Yes I do. He blames the world, you for taking HIS son away, the military, this war, and everyone else. But that is no reason to be cruel to you and especially Emmalynn. Right after you lost him, his Dad basically told you, he didn't want anything to do with you or her. I know his mom is going against his wishes, and let's pray "The Dark One" doesn't find out."
"Abby come on," Olivia huffed. "He can't do anything to hurt me or Emmalynn."
"Are you sure? You know HIM Liv. Hell I am surprised POTUS has not found out more about him yet. You really need to tell Fitz before anything really happens between the both of you. Keeping this secret from him is bad. He deserves to know." Abby was trying to reason with her, to help her see that keeping Emmalynn's father's background a secret was bad idea.
"I will tell him Abby. He just announced his bid for re-election and does not need to worry about me and Emmalynn right now. He's got enough on his mind. I'll tell him don't worry. I have to have the right moment. I don't want to keep secrets from him."
"Then Liv," Stephen came up next to her. "You have to tell Fitz – sooner rather than later."
"I know," she sat down looking at all the flowers, presents in her office. "You know all these flowers are kind of pretty aren't they. He really does have great taste." Abby and Stephen agreed. They looked around the room and rolled their eyes. "What?"
"Say yes to him for Christ sakes. If he keeps sending flowers here, my allergies are going to kick in before spring." Abby groaned out, walking out of the room.
"So telling her, he's sending flowers to my apartment is bad too right," Olivia looked at Stephen who agreed.
"Say YES Liv. He's makes you happy." Stephen told her and went out of her room and began to get to work on a case they were working on.

December 20th... "Daddy and Mommy's Girls."
As Christmas approached, Olivia had barely anytime time to visit Fitz and the kids at the White House. She was busy Christmas shopping, wrapping gifts, spending time with Emmalynn after work, and getting her apartment ready for them to leave again. Fitz had wanted them in Santa Barbara but she knew her mother would have a fit. Fitz was not happy, but she made plans to see him for New Years.
As soon as he finished worked for the holidays, Air Force One took off for Santa Barbara where he would be staying till after the first of the year. He insisted to Cyrus to try to see Olivia and Emmalynn before he left but there was no time in his hectic schedule. He was running on all cylinders trying to make sure he finished what he could before left for home.
He ended work till almost eleven or midnight the in the Oval so his work would not pile up for him over the holidays. Fitz finished everything that he could, and took whatever he could with him.
Since his birthday, he had been romancing, wooing her, and making sure she knew how much he truly wanted them to be couple. The first week or so he sent flowers. After a "scolding" from Olivia, who warned him that if the flowers didn't stop, someone would have an allergy attack, he went a different tactic.
The second week, a single flower arrived every morning at her door, with a breakfast treat or pastry served during the holiday season at the White House. She shook her head, when her door knocked in the morning, knowing when she saw Tom or Mitch, what was going on.
"I don't need any sweets guys," she glared at them.
"Sorry Ma'am but the President insists. He says if you don't take this, he'll come here himself and make sure that you do," Tom pleaded. "We can't have that."
Olivia shook her head and gladly accepted whatever the agents gave to her after that. When she finally made it up North, unable to see Fitz before he left, she even found Christmas goodies waiting for her and Emmalynn there. She saw a bouquet of red and white roses, with mistletoe on the table. Next to it was Christmas ribbon candy, apples, and fudge. Plus breakfast items along side.
"Urgh," she groaned. "That MAN is driving me nuts!"
"Looks like he really likes you," she heard her Dad say behind her. Emmalynn was already up in her room, getting settled with her mom.
Olivia turned around, blushing. "You could say that. Dad," she tried to say but he stopped her.
"Livy sweetheart," her father walked over to her, taking her hands. "Does he make you happy? The way Christopher used to."
"Yes but he's the….,"
"President of the United States," her Dad grinned. "Yes he is. But he's still a man, and you don't see him that way. I remember at Em's party how happy you were with him. He's a good man who loves his children, Emmalynn and you."
"Dad it's not what you think. I'm not…." Olivia tried to explain to him what was going on between her and Fitz.
"I know you aren't sleeping together. When that time does come I hope it is right for both of you. But that man is in love with you. No man sends all these gifts, comes home early from a world conference across the globe, because his heart isn't in your hands. From what I hear from Emmy, brings a stuffed animal over to your house, if he didn't. He risked his safety for to do that for you both. It's time to do something for Fitz, but most of all yourself."
"But what about Emmalynn," she walked over to the window by the tree. "What if we don't work? If I lose Fitz, she will too."
"Taking a chance on love is the biggest risk of all. I know losing Christopher was hard on you. He was a good man and would have been great father. But President Grant, has changed you the last four months. He's brought happiness back in your life. He's opened your heart again, and helped you to move past your grief. Let him LOVE you child. He already does."
"I don't know if I can," she sniffled out. "What if the country doesn't like me? Hell Mom isn't too fond of him either. I don't deserve him Daddy."
"You DO TO deserve Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III. Screw the country and your mother. I'll deal with her. Now you listen to your Dear Old Dad; great life-changing, devastating, true love only comes into your life once. I know you think that was Christopher, but I believe deep down, that event led you to this man. Even if you would have been with him, meeting The President would have made you question that decision. You need to accept that you deserve to be loved again, and be with him. I know he's the POTUS but you two can make it work."
"You think," she questioned.
"Yes."
"And Mom," she asked looking worried.
"I'll deal with her. She'll get used to the idea. She does not hate him. Your mother is a complicated woman Livy. You get it from her. Christopher's family gave us so many problems, because of our skin color, and class. And your mother does not want to happen again." Her father explained. "But she did take a liking to his mother."
"But Fitz doesn't care about us being 'different' either. I don't see him that way - from me and Emmalynn. Just because he's white, mom doesn't like him," she raised her voice.
"No Livy dear," her mother entered the room. Alice Pope was a woman not to mess with but she wanted what was best for her daughter. After what happened with Christopher all she wanted what was best for her baby girl and grandchild. She did not want to see Olivia hurt, left alone and rejected all over again.
Alice then continued. "It's not just because he's white. It's because last time you got involved with someone that was from a wealthy family, they hurt you and refused to see my grandchild. His mother, God Bless her puts up with a lot. I know THEY blame you for Chris's death."
"They don't Mom. His Dad does." Olivia corrected her. "Where's Emmalynn?"
"Upstairs reading Sophia," her mother assured her. "Look I just want you happy. Emmalynn told me everything the President has done for you both. Abby even told me some things too. Now don't be mad at her, she just wanted to make sure I understood what was happening between the both of you. She called me on her own to make sure I had everything for Emmalynn here. I asked her about President Grant and she told me how great he's been to you, and Emmy. "
"But Momma," Olivia tried to say before they got into a fight.
"No Dear," Alice stopped her by taking her hands. "I know I have not always been supportive of you and your decisions. Bbut The President risked so much for you and my grandchild. No man, let alone him with all his agents, does that for no reason. I assume he's not tried to get you into bed, and has done everything possible to assure you, that giving him the chance is worth it."
"Mom," she was not sure what she heard out of her mother was true. "But I thought you hated him," Olivia asked completely baffled.
"I did at first. He was not my favorite person. But hearing everything he has done for you, and most importantly Emmalynn, I could not hold a grudge against him because he's white and in politics. I thought he was going to use you like every other rich politician out there. He would get what he wanted from you, and move onto someone more suitable." Alice explained to Olivia hoping she would understand her fears. "That's what men in his position do. They chose power over love."
"Mom he's not like that," Olivia whimpered. "He is willing to risk his Presidency to be with me openly."
"I know that now My Girl. I only saw him at Emmalynn's birthday but the way he looked at you. How he held and played with Emmalynn. He risked pretty much an international incident coming home to make her party. It softened my heart. Granted I may not 'love' the man, but I am willing to try. Plus Abby told me about all the flowers and gifts to 'woo' you and Emmalynn. For a white guy, he's got skills Child."
"Momma," Olivia giggled, embarrassed.
"Hell if you don't say yes, I'll let him take me out. Maybe he can teach your father how to be romantic again," Alice teased Louis, her husband for almost 40 years.
"Hey," Louis chastised. "I know how to romance you. I'm just out of practice."
"Look Sweetheart," Alice said, waving off her Dad. "I know I am not the easiest person to please. But I am willing to try harder this time for you and Emmalynn. You both deserve to be happy. Chris would want that for you. But with that said, I still want to meet and talk to POTUS."
"Now Allie," Louis started but Alice stopped him.
"Don't Allie me- Louis. All I'm saying is WE both want to talk to the man, when he has a chance. Is that okay Livy?"
"I'll see what I can do."
"Good," Alice answered. Her mother than asked her about everything he's sent to her and Emmalynn which made Olivia blush even more. Louis and Alice encouraged her to give Fitz a chance. That they would support her but they still wanted to talk to him, when he was able.
"Go for it Dear," both implored. She then told her parents an idea she had for Fitz and all the kids for Christmas.
Her parents agreed, she smiled, kissed them both and went to see Emmalynn. She cuddled up next to her, and fell asleep thinking of what she should do. Should she give in to her heart's desire and say YES, or wait a bit longer. He's been waiting four months and maybe it's time to put HER POTUS out of his misery.

Christmas in California, Xmas Eve
The day before Christmas was busy for Fitz, Karen and Jerry. Extra people arrived to set up things for the First Family to come home. They had done everything possible to make the house they way Fitz's mother used to decorate. The tree was completed after they arrived, but all the other things were placed up around the ranch.
There was tinsel, with white Christmas lights up and down the stairs, trailing all through the house. Mistletoe was hanging by the tree and over the doorways, just in case anyone wanted to steal a kiss from the one they loved. The ranch hands hung lighted wreaths off the windows outside, and a massive one off the fire place. Then of course the staff adorned the entire roof in White Hanging lights, that twinkled, to give the house the appearance that it snowed.
Fitz thanked the staff for the efforts to get everything ready for their arrival. It really did feel like a home again, but he longed for Olivia. He had not been able to see her before leaving DC and he missed both his girls. Cyrus had heard from her, and he was told that both of them were having a good time in Massachusetts.
The truth was the last two weeks since his birthday were so busy for both of them, they did not really see each other, but only a few times. He called her every chance he got, but since coming back home to California, he had not had the chance. He missed her so much, and wanted her there with him and the kids.
He tried to place those thoughts out of his head, because it was Christmas Eve. The staff outdid themselves with dinner, and once everything was cooked he allowed them to go home. Fitz and the kids ate, and could not wait till Christmas morning. Once the leftovers were put away, Karen heard her Dad's cell phone ring.
"Hello," Karen said into the phone.
"Hi Kar," Olivia said.
"LIVY!" She squealed so loud, that Fitz and Jerry heard her from across the house.
"We miss you," Karen told her without missing a beat.
"I know," Olivia said to her, feeling the same way. "I wanted to call you all really quick before I went to Mass with my parents. Emmalynn and I are all dressed up and will text a picture so you can see. It's even snowing, if you believe it!"
"Cool beans," Karen said. "Do you want Dad before you go?"
"Of course," Olivia said to her, smiling even more. "I have a few minutes."
"Hey I want to talk to her too," Jerry said, reaching for the phone. Fitz stood in the background watching his teenagers fight like little kids over his phone. He tried really hard not to laugh at them, but he had not seen them act this way in a long time.
Jerry got the phone from Karen, holding it up above his head, so she could not get it away from him, continuing to taunt her. "Daddy!"
"Karen it's okay. I can wait. Let Jerry talk to her. But Jerry," he sternly walked up to his son. Jerry turned and looked at him, "Next time ask before you steal the phone from your sister. And don't keep her to long. I WANT her next."
"Yes Dad," Jerry grinned rolling his eyes. Olivia cold hear Fitz on the other end and started giggling. "Hi Liv."
"Hey Big Man," Olivia exclaimed. "How are you?"
"Good. We miss you though," Jerry pointed out.
Then Karen yelled out from across the room, "He misses your cooking and baking Liv." Olivia laughed on the other end. Jerry couldn't say anything because she was right, but he did miss her and Emmalynn.
"How's Emmy," Jerry asked.
"She's excited for Mass at church and that Santa is coming tonight. But she does miss her "Fiz" and Big Jer-Bear."
"Her what," Jerry blushed.
"You heard me," Olivia chuckled. "She misses you Jerry a lot. She can't wait to see you both and your Dad of course." Jerry told her that he could not wait to see them too. They talked a few minutes and gave the phone to Fitz, who was beginning to pace in circles. He looked like caged tiger, ready to grab the phone from Jerry if he didn't hand it over.
Jerry handed him the phone, and Fitz walked outside. It was chilly for Santa Barbara, mid forties, but a lot of that was due to their house being right off the beach. He stepped out onto the deck and uttered, "Hi."
Olivia felt her entire body react on the phone. "Hi."
"Merry Christmas," Fitz murmured. "God I wish you were here- both of you. Next year we are ALL going to be together Livy. Do you hear me?"
"Yes Mr. President," she huskily voiced, and heard him groan on the other end of the line. "I miss you just as much. Emmalynn does too. Merry Christmas."
"So when can I send a plane to get you both. I want you here," Fitz bluntly stated.
"Fitz," she giggled. "You can't."
"Why," he teased. "You know I have the means."
"That's beside's the point, Mister. You'll see us soon."
"We've hardly seen each other since my birthday Liv. God I hate this. The last two and a half weeks have been horrible." Fitz pointed out, grumbling.
"I know. But we'll make it up to each other next time we see each other okay. Plus I have special gift for you too. Next time I see you, I'll give it to you. It wasn't ready before you left."
"Liv you didn't have to get me anything. You're presents from the kids are hiding in my room still. I hid them in my luggage so they wouldn't know," he made sure to tell her.
"Good." Olivia then heard her mom yell. "Livy, stop talking to DA-POTUS and let's get going. You know your Dad has to get HIS parking spot at church."
"I guess you have to leave me huh," Fitz asked, not doing a good job hiding how much he missed her.
"Yes I do. Merry Christmas Fitz, and call me in the morning after you get up with the kids. I will see you soon okay," she sweetly said, reassuring him.
"Okay. Merry Christmas, and I miss you more than anything Livy. Bye."
"Bye," Olivia hung up the phone and left with her family for Mass. Fitz went back in the house and sat with the kids and watched "The Polar Express" with Karen and Jerry till it was time for bed. They had watched the movie every Christmas Eve since it came out. Once the movie was finished, they strung some popcorn to place around the tree, drank hot chocolate and Fitz sent them up to bed.
He gradually went upstairs himself, grabbed he gifts and placed them under the tree. He then crawled into bed. He looked at his phone and saw the picture of Olivia and Emmalynn by her parent's tree. Both were in white dresses, and their hair was in loose curls. He rubbed his fingers over their picture, missing them even more.
"Next year we will all be together. I promise you," Fitz said and went to sleep, dreaming of Olivia and Emmalynn becoming a Grant- a moment he could not wait to make a reality.

"Santa Came, Santa Came!"
7:00A.M.
"Oh my gosh," Fitz heard Karen, still not awake.
"No flipping way," Jerry bellowed. "This is freaking awesome. I can't believe this."
He rolled over and looked at the clock. "Why the heck are they up this early? They normally do not get up this early anymore," he groaned ready to roll back over and attempt to go back to sleep.
He was just getting comfortable, when the kids came running into the room. "Dad, get up. Santa came. You have to see what he brought us," Karen squealed, nudging Fitz.
"Karen," Fitz sat up looking at her. "You're how old. You know you are not to touch anything till I get downstairs."
"Yadda, Yadda, Dad, come on," she told Fitz. She began to pull the blankets off him. Fitz looked at her like she was crazy.
"Guys I didn't get you anything special," Fitz pointed out, not sure what all this excitement was for.
"Dad come on," Jerry said, as he began to pull his Dad out of the bed. "We really want to un-wrap everything. But you seriously need to come down stairs."
Fitz got up and found his slippers. He had on his red and green flannel sleep pants, and a red long sleeve shirt. He looked in the mirror and his hair was all over the place. He made sure he had his phone. Before he made it out into the hallway, Karen and Jerry dragged him to the stairs.
They ran down the stairs, leaving Fitz standing their confused. "Geez you haven't acted this excited in such a long time," he groaned wiping his eyes, going down the stairs. He was still rubbing them, when he reached half way down the stairs, letting out a yawn.
"What is all the excitement about," he stopped, and froze on the steps, not sure what he was seeing was real. He swallowed quickly, and took another step forward. His breathing quickened, and he rubbed his eyes one more time, to make sure what he was seeing was real.
"Dad, look what Santa dropped off last night when we were sleeping," Karen squealed out.
"What," Fitz whimpered out.
"Dad, isn't this the best gift ever," Jerry said, standing by their Christmas morning surprise.
"How did this happen? Where did…" he got out before he heard these words they made everything shift into focus.
"Merry Christmas FIZ," he heard finally in the two sweetest voices, standing in their pajamas, in front of HIS TREE.
"Livy. Emmalynn," he breathed out, finally coming down the stairs. He saw Olivia whisper something to Olivia and next thing he knew, Emmalynn Grace Pope ran away from her mother and flew into his arms. He was not prepared, and she about knocked him over into the stairs.
Emmalynn wrapped her arms around his neck, squeezing him tightly. Fitz sat down with Emmalynn in his arms. She pulled away and kissed him on the cheek. "Merry Kiss-mas Fitz."
"Merry Kiss-mas Emmy," he told her hugging her back. He looked at Olivia and Jerry and Karen were at her sides, holding onto her. Fitz began to cry, so happy that they were HOME with him. Emmalynn wiped his tears away, the same way she did the first time she touched his face the first time, all those months ago.
"Better," she asked.
"Much," Fitz replied back, attempting to hold back his emotions. He squeezed the little again, and began to kiss her face, causing Emmalynn to giggle.
"Mummy Fitz is giving me coo-wee's," making the entire room laugh. Olivia laughed seeing Fitz with her daughter.
"Tell him Emmalynn," Olivia instructed her daughter, as Fitz stood up.
"Tell me what," Fitz asked. He wanted to ask how they got there without him knowing, but he would deal with that later.
"Yes," Emmalynn told him with a grin. "We say yes."
"What," Fitz said squinting his eyes at the little girl. He looked to Olivia, who was biting her lip in embarrassment.
"Yes Fitz," Olivia said this time, giving him a smile.
"Yes?" Fitz asked again. "I haven't asked you anything."
"God Dad's having a Senior Moment," Karen said out loud.
"Geez Dad did you forget already," Jerry admonished.
"Ask me again Fitz." Olivia instructed. "Ask US again," she said to him stressing the 'US' part. Then it hit Fitz what she meant. His eyes widened and the grin he gave her made her weak in the knees. He looked at Olivia then Emmalynn and back again. Both nodded at the same time, causing him to chuckle.
He stood up from the stairs, and locked his eyes on hers. He began to walk to her and with each step he said;
"Will," step.
"You," step.
"Both," two steps.
"Go," step. Karen and Jerry moved out of the way.
"Out," step. He placed Emmalynn on the floor.
"With. Me. Please," he finally made it to her barely breathing. His pulse was racing and felt his heart practically beating out of his chest. If it pounded any harder, he would have a heart attack. Their faces were less than a foot apart, and he was lost as he gazed into her beautiful brown eyes.
She reached out and took his hands in her own. Olivia let out a breath and finally voiced "YES I will go out with you Fitz. I would be honored to be your girl…"
Before she could finish her sentence, Fitz bent down and picked up her up in his arms. Her hair went flying around them as he twirled her around. Her slippers came flying off. She began kicking her feet, causing the kids to back up laughing. She began giggling into his neck as she felt Fitz do the same.
"This is the best gift ever," he said, as he kept spinning her around. He laughed into her neck and continued to breathe in her scent, loving it even more now. Once Fitz stopped turning them around, and looked into her eyes. He held onto her, and both their faces turned more serious, as he began to lean forward so their lips could touch for the first time.
"Livy," he breathed, as he got closer.
Before she could answer, "Mummy he has to ask first."
Fitz knew what she meant. He turned his head to Emmalynn and said, "Emmalynn Grace may I please kiss my girlfriend, who happens to be your mom?"
"Me first," Emmalynn giggled out, and pointed to her cheek and made a kiss face. Fitz shook his head, and watched Jerry scoop her up for his kiss from him. Fitz gave her a big one, leaving a wet mark behind.
"Mummy he gave me coo-wee's again," causing everyone to laugh.
Fitz turned to Olivia still laughing. She looked at Jerry and Karen and asked, "Can I kiss your Dad?"
Both kids nodded and tried not to giggle. Both teens knew was going to happen if they didn't leave the room and take Emmalynn with them. "Come on Emmalynn, let's leave them be for a minute, we don't want to see this," Jerry teased his Dad as they walked away. The kids took her in the kitchen to get breakfast and left Olivia and Fitz by the tree. She was still up in his arms, and he had no intention of putting her down.
"You ready for our first kiss," Fitz huskily asked, as he leaned closer.
"It's not our first," she corrected him. He raised his eyes, and knew she felt the kiss he gave on HIS birthday. "I felt your kiss that night Fitz. I thought it was a dream, but I knew you kissed me. It was…"
"Everything," he said back. Fitz looked in her eyes, and began to lean in. She placed her hands on his face, and told him "Merry Christmas Fitz."
Merry Christmas Livy," he uttered as he closed the distance between their lips
"My Saving Grace," she said to him, right before he kissed her.
"My Saving Grace," he told her back, as his lips FINALLY touched hers. ;-)
