Author's Note: To answer Trinity's review, yes, I do aim to make wholesome stories. Fluff is all the way. Thank you to FeliLud and one guest for leaving reviews! You da real MVP. Now, this one is short and more of a filler but I hope you'll enjoy it.
Integra's Age: 8
Chapter 10: Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep
She sniffled and scowled as she felt the insistent pounding in her head.
Integra prided for being a very healthy child. She rarely got sick and if she did, they usually went away in a few days. She could count on one hand how many times she got sick these past eight years. So it blindsided her and the rest of the household when she came down with a horrible fever four days ago.
Her condition got worse on the third day but she woke up better this morning, even if Walter still fussed over her like a horribly overprotective mother hen. Thankfully her father wasn't at the mansion this week or he'd be having a rampage... but it also brought her current dilemma.
Her gaze wandered around her room, staring at the door that leads to the bathroom before moving on to the bookcase next to it and the table full of clutters that resided just beside it then her eyes strayed to her bedroom door.
After making her rounds of observation for the third time, Integra hardened her resolve and threw away the covers.
She slipped into her slippers and tightened her robe before making her way out of her bedroom, steps determined and resolute. This side of the mansion was quite empty because it's a private wing and only Walter could freely walk in and out of here. If she weren't a Hellsing, the hallways would feel foreboding. But still, her steps faltered when she finally reached her destination.
The steel door stood looming in front of her. A shiver racked through her body because of the low temperature but the cool steel felt good against her skin. She wondered if this was wise, with her father gone and Walter nowhere to be seen. But she was already here so... might as well.
With a sigh, Integra pushed open the heavy door, its hinges creaking loudly in the silence.
Her sandaled feet scuffled against the stone floor as she walked towards the coffin in the middle of the room, noticing the slightly ajar lid. She carelessly pushed it aside and watched as the vampire sat up, startled.
"Integra?" Alucard asked, uncertain.
"I can't sleep," Integra replied curtly before grabbing Alucard's collar and dragging him back into the coffin. The vampire's eyes were still wide with surprise but he learned long ago to just go along with it when it comes to his little master. So he pulled the young girl tighter against him, conjuring up a thick blanket and tucking her inside it. Integra accepted the gesture as she burrowed her head into his shoulder, sighing deeply and slowly slipping into slumber.
Odd how Alucard's coffin felt as secure and comforting as her father's bed.
End Note: That's it, folks! I just needed to get this out of my system. Anyway, if you have any ideas/prompts, do review/pm me. Thank you for reading!
