AN: Hey guys, I'm sorry about the use of the word torch- I will endeavour to use flashlight next time. (Picky Americans, *sigh*)
So, winner for last chapter was pandalover9914, (O)(O)(O)(O)(O)(O)(O)(::)(::)(::)(::)(::)(::), please review the character you want in.
Guest who said smelly Gabe- are you Silvanyx5? I can't put him in unless I know you are who you say you are. Otherwise anyone could ask for a character without winning a question. (Spell check just wanted me to change are you to is you. I think it needs sleep.)
I'm sorry it's a short chapter- next one will be longer, I promise.
Here we go guys...
In Which Leo returns to school...
Leo groaned half-heartedly as he felt a weight land in the centre of his stomach. Not the best way to be woken up. "Benny- I've been here a week, don't you think it's about time you stopped jumping on me each morning?"
Benny giggled and slid of Leo's bed. "It's school today Leo. My first day at my new school. Get- uuuppp"
Leo did not see why that was something to be excited over. In his opinion, school was a waste of time. Sure it was a good thing for mortals to get an education and stuff, and some of the things he was forced to learn was useful. But only a very little amount. The ability to manipulate surds, was not beneficial towards a demi-gods' continued existence. That time would have been much better spent in sword practice, or rock climbing. It wasn't hazardous to know- but it was just a massive waste of time.
Leo was determinedly ignoring the voice in his head that said that's what camp is for you idiot, and proceeded to drag himself out of bed and to the bathroom, to at least make himself slightly presentable.
Before too long had passed, he was in the kitchen area, where Jo was pouring Benny some apple juice. Leo grabbed a glass and helped himself. He sent a grin to Harvey, who was stereo typically reading the newspaper. Leo grabbed two pop-tarts and, ignoring Jo's disapproving look, stuck them in the toaster. He grabbed an apple and bit into it, grinning at Jo and waving it around. "See, healthy."
Harvey brought the newspaper up to hide his smile, and coughed slightly. That brought Leo's attention to him. "You do realise you're holding that paper upside down right?" Harvey put the paper down and shrugged.
"Thought I'd at least try to pretend we're an ordinary household. Just for one day."
Leo laughed. "All semblance of normality fled when you decided it was a good idea to adopt me."
"As well as all semblance of sanity." Jo added, before turning to Benny and handing him his packed lunch. "Now, Goode is a pretty good school, so please don't go getting expelled."
Leo sunk into the chair behind him and paced his hand over his heart as if he'd been shot, "You think I would get expelled? What horrible rumours have you been listening to?"
"Your track record."
"Ouch. To be fair, most of that was M.O.N.S.T.E.R. stuff." Leo had spent ages thinking up an acronym for the word Monster. So far all he had was the Mobile Office for Neutralisation and Slaying of Threatening Evil Reprobates. There were literally no good words for monster that began in R, so Leo meant no offence to any reprobates, (of which he was sure some people would consider him).
Harvey gave a glance toward Benny, who wasn't listening to the conversation, then back at Leo. Leo dropped the conversation. "Generally I'm perfect. I..."
Leo's speech was interrupted by the toaster exploding. "...I'll fix that later."
Before Harvey had finished his laughing fit, Jo had bundled the two school attendees out the apartment and to the car parked below the window. She was dropping the two off, Leo at Goode and Benny at the elementary school beside it. Then she was off to work in an advice centre for those with addictions and problems. Which was a job she liked, even if four nights out of the seven Leo had lived there she had complained about some of the people being outright idiots- not the people who came for help, but the care workers who were meant to help them! No names of course, privacy and all.
But Leo didn't think he would be able to keep that job. The amount of idiocy Jo described, from her co-workers no less, would have Leo ready to commit murder inside a week. What sort of idiot thought shouting at a person with anxiety issues was a good freaking idea?
Leo rested his head against the car door and frowned at the traffic. "With this traffic it would probably be quicker to walk!"
"Probably." Jo looked as put out as Leo felt. Leo looked over to the other occupant of the car, just as Benny looked up from his new schoolbag, which was on the floor in front of him.
"Leo?"
"Yeah, what's up Kiddo?"
"What do I do if people don't like me?"
Leo shifted in is seat to look at Benny. "They will like you- you're a good kid, as long as you remember to be nice and share, and not be meant to the girls, even if they have cooties- you'll have an amazing time."
"What if the other kids are mean to me?"
Leo reached over and gave the kid a one armed hug; Benny looked so worried he couldn't help himself. He may have known Benny for less than a month, but he couldn't help but want to protect the kid. Maybe not by blood, but he was defiantly starting to think of Benny as his little brother. It would take time, sure. Family bonds don't form in a day- not strong ones. It always takes time, but Leo felt like he had to protect Benny, same as he had with Harley before the time travel thing. "Then Kiddo, you remind them you have a big brother, who will protect you from any mean bullies- Ok?"
The look of joy on Benny's face made it worth the ache in his chest when he thought of Harley. He could still see his death playing out in his head. He hadn't seen it, he had been in Greece when Harley died at camp-half blood, but Nyssa's description had given him an idea of how it happened, and his imagination filled out the rest.
The car stopped, and Leo clambered out, slinging his bag over his shoulder and making for the doorway to Goode. As he made his way over, he watched as a girl emerged from the posh car and ran up the steps, not looking back at all, as she entered the building. Something about that girl felt remarkably familiar- like he'd seen her before, but from this distance he couldn't tell who she was. He quickly followed her up the steps of the building and entered the school.
By the time he had gotten his timetable and been given instructions to his homeroom, the bell had almost rung and he was almost running along the rapidly emptying corridors. He was currently thanking Chaos (and Hephaestus) that Percy had given him a description of Goode during one of the quiet moments of the war. He was now replaying it in his head. Number 1-10 are the math's corridor, they're to the right after the lobby, and if you turn left at the end of the corridor, you get to the science corridor. You can cut through the library to get to the English and history rooms, which are 30-40. But make sure you don't turn right at the end of that corridor, because that's the staffroom- and students are expressly forbidden (that's what Paul said when I asked him).
Leo darted down the English corridor, and swerved left at the end, looking for room 41, which was his homeroom, lead by (and he was sure Chaos planned this) Mr. . Wouldn't Percy senior laugh his head off?
He arrived at the class with seconds to spare, and dusted himself down, pasting an easy grin on his face, and pushed open the door.
What are the names of Dionysus's twin sons?
