Chapter 31

Mellie was furious. That son-of-a-bitch thought he could force her out with his ultimatums. He couldn't. She wouldn't be forced out. She is his wife and she always would be. She was the one making all the concessions and she was tired of it. He was the one that had strayed, initially anyway. He had broken vows and in doing so had forced her to play the cards she had. Speaking of cards to play she was going to have to figure out a way to get Olivia out of her husband's orbit. She had found out that Olivia had been injured somehow and had to be hospitalized. Fitzgerald Grant fool that he is had rushed to her bedside she had been told. The man was always jeopardizing his Presidency for that piece of trash. It was unbelievable to her that he could be so foolish.

She had snuffed this sordid affair out before and she would do it again. Of course she had to be careful she couldn't be the actual culprit this time. She was going to have to align her ducks in the right row. That little cabal of theirs that had actually propelled Fitzgerald Grant into the presidency could probably be useful in her plans. She needed to sit down and come up with a course of action. It needed to be foolproof this time she wasn't going through this shit every six months. She would start with Cyrus Beene. That cocksucker loved the power he had as Chief of Staff. Perhaps he could rein in the fool and get him to see that a divorce was out of the question. Mellie wasn't beyond using whoever could help her. That old hag that had become a US Supreme Court Justice Verna what's her name was part of this too. So was Hollis Doyle with his crazy ass. Lastly there was Olivia Pope herself. Everyone was getting what they wanted but her. It wasn't supposed to work out this way.

She thought that Olivia Pope was just in this thing for the prestige of having made a President. She had made him alright. She had no idea she was after her husband until it was too late. Of course she had underestimated her husband as well. The way he had gone on about his father saying how he would never be like him, all of it was a lie. He was just like him. He had taken a mistress and just like his son of a bitch father he was trying to keep her. Not only was he trying to keep her, he was trying to divorce his wife for her. Fitz had taken this thing too far. Fitzgerald Grant thought Olivia Pope could do no wrong simply because he had lain between her magical thighs and found Jesus. Olivia was part of this too, she had said yes to election rigging and Mellie would bring them all down before she would leave this White House. Her husband had no fucking idea about the can of worms he would open!

Mellie was going to formulate plans for all of her election rigging co-conspirators. As she said she would start with Cyrus. She couldn't threaten him with his sexual preferences. The man flaunted his homosexuality like he was proud of it. He had been married to a woman when she first met him. The poor woman had discovered that her husband would rather have sex with men than her and she had walked. He came out of the closet soon after and inserted himself into the bastion of political power in spite of it. He now thought he was the second most powerful man in the world and he was sucking dick and fucking men and no one cared. This world was going to hell in a hand basket. Her husband felt society was so worn down that he could divorce his wife and marry his mistress and no one would blink an eye. He was probably right. No one had any morals anymore. Even she had been reduced to being sexual fodder for that sexual predator Hal in order to keep tabs on her adulterous husband.

Sex was the driving force of the moral decline of the world. The act itself was overrated. She hated sex with men she really did. But it was a woman's lot in life to be used, to be a vessel for a man's lust. She had put up with it as a child. She had used it to eat and house herself as a young adult. Then there were the Big Jerry years. Just thinking about him made her want to gag! Now here she was First Lady of the United States of America relegated to being a fucking handmaiden for a Secret Service agent to try and keep her husband on the straight and narrow. She was tired of it. She deserved better from Fitzgerald Grant. He seriously thought he could just drop her like yesterday's trash. Well he was going to learn to show her some respect!

Mellie got dressed. She may as well get started on her quest. She hated Cyrus with his smug ass. He could be smug today if he wanted to but she was serious. She would bring them all down. She would gather every last one of them in a small life boat and then she would punch a hole in it. She was so tired of it all. The humiliation that she endured knowing that just about the entire White House had known her husband was boning Olivia before she figured it out. She had invited the woman into her home and let her befriend her children and this is what she got? She put Olivia Pope in the back of her mind for now. She was the joker, the wild card in the deck of cards that she had. She had to be careful how she used her. The rest of those fools she could handle. Her husband could go rogue if she did what comes naturally to his mistress. She wanted to out and out destroy her in this town but that wasn't an option right now.

Mellie got dressed and left the residence. She headed to the Left Wing. She wanted to confront Cyrus early. She knocked on his office door. His assistant aka glorified secretary that sat in the vestibule outside of the door of his office had said to come in. She stood when Mellie walked in and said, "May I help you Mrs. Grant? Mr. Beene is out of the office in a meeting right now. I don't have you down for a meeting with him this morning."

"I don't have an appointment Ellen. I was just stopping in hoping I could get a few minutes with him."

"He is scheduled right up until one o'clock I'm afraid and then he has a full table after lunch. Perhaps you should schedule an appointment. I expect him to drop in him in a few minutes to pick up a portfolio but he has another meeting he will be rushing to."

"No that won't be necessary. I only need to speak to him for a few minutes. I 'm sure he can spare the First Lady of the United States of America a few of his precious minutes. I'll wait for him right here Ellen. "Mellie sat down to wait for her nemesis.

Ellen Tapper had been with Cyrus Beene since he was a college professor and all through his years of managing political campaigns. He was a brilliant man and he didn't like one little thing out of order. He arranged his day each and every day the same as the day as before. Some things of course were planned in advance but he never strayed from the plan but for one cause, and that was for the President of the United States of America not the First Lady. She saw no need to enlighten this person to that fact. She was just going to sit back down in her seat and enjoy the fireworks. She was very efficient at her job so this had been a slow morning. She needed a good chuckle. "No problem Mrs. Grant please have a seat. Could I get you a water, tea, coffee or something else?"

"No Ellen, but thanks for asking."

Approximately fifteen minutes after Mellie sat down Cyrus Beene entered his office. To his utter surprise there sat Mellie Grant in the small foyer of his office. He had about ten minutes to gather the documents he needed and move on to his next meeting of the day. He wasn't really surprised she was in his office hell he was expecting her. No doubt she had found out that her husband was back with Olivia Pope. She had a spy in the White House and Cyrus was honing in on who it was. When he found him or her they would be canned. For now the woman seated in the vestibule of his office thought she had a good thing going on. To some extent she did but that was neither here or there. Why was she here and what was her angle of the day?

"Top of the morning to you Mellie. I didn't know I had an appointment with you this morning. There must have been some glitch in your schedule. Because I can assure you that I know my schedule for today inside and out and you are not on it."

"I know that I don't have an appointment Cyrus. I was just hoping you could spare me a few minutes of your time. An issue has come up that I wish to talk to you about in private. It's very important."

"Is it now? Does it involve world peace, threats of nuclear war, or violations of treaties against the nation?"

"Well no Cyrus it doesn't. This is a personal matter but it is very important."

"Oh this is personal. Well then Madame let me suggest that you contact me after working hours. I am Chief of Staff to a man that sets the tone for the entire planet, in fact he is the leader of the free world. I have a million things on my plate this morning. I have meetings one right after the other up until one PM. I have a working lunch which means I probably won't even get to eat. I'm a very busy man I'm afraid. In the future I suggest you call and schedule an appointment. If you will excuse me." He headed for his office door.

"Just a minute Cyrus you don't get to dismiss me. I am the First Lady and you work for my husband."

Cyrus didn't even bother to turn around. "Yes you are the First Lady and may I remind you that I don't work for you. I work for your husband Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III President of these United States and you Madame aren't he. Good morning." He walked into his office and closed the door.

Mellie stood up aghast and walked right up behind him to open the door. It was locked. That son of a bitch had thoroughly dismissed her in front of his staff. He had humiliated her once again. She hated him almost as much as she hated his boss. One day, she thought to herself. She turned away from the door. Her face was beet red with embarrassment. How dare he treat her this way? She took a deep breath and put on her best face after that unforgiveable humiliation. She looked at his assistant, she was all but laughing out loud at her. The woman had a smile and smug look on her face. She had known Cyrus wouldn't see her.

"Good morning to you Ellen. I will call you later today to see when I can get an appointment with your boss, his Royal Ass Wipe. Have a nice day." She had said it loud enough hopefully that Cyrus heard her. She walked from the office and slammed the door. Humiliated for now she walked back to the residence.

Cyrus came out of his office ten minutes later headed to his next appointment. "Ellen I prefer to have no dealing with the First Lady if possible. She is a viper of high content. She will call for an appointment. Make it next week sometime at the end of the day. She can kill a mood just by breathing on you. So definitely no more than ten minutes. I can't put up with her bullshit longer than that."

"Of course Mr. Beene I will see to it."

It was now lunch time and Fitz had worked through the morning. He had neglected a few things spending all that time with Olivia as she recovered and he needed to catch up them. Cyrus had done an excellent job. There was little doubt the man could've been president himself. However he didn't even want to try he had said. He didn't have the face for it. America liked her politicians smart but good looking and he said he wasn't. He and Cyrus were meeting here in the Oval. He was having lunch sent in. He had checked on Olivia when he had a break this morning. She had been sleeping when he called so he inquired as to how she was feeling and said he would call her later. It was later and he hoped she was up. He really didn't want to disturb her especially if she were sleeping. He wouldn't allow the phone to ring more than three times before he hung up.

Olivia answered on the second ring. She knew it was Fitz and she was anxious to talk to him. He had basically worn her out last night. She had slept through the morning and had been asleep when he called earlier. She wanted to hear his voice.

"Hello Mr. President. I am glad you called back. I can't believe I was still in bed sound asleep at ten thirty in the morning. You know I am usually up and about."

"Olivia you were seriously injured a little less than a week ago. You had a concussion babe. You are supposed to be at home sleeping. That is the entire point of being at home on bed rest. Not to mention you were put through your paces last night, enjoyable paces that they were. I hope we didn't overindulge last night Olivia. I know what we both wanted but was it what you needed?

"Fitz I specifically asked the doctor if we could have sex and he said yes. You heard him yourself."

Yes the President had heard the doctor himself. He was sure he had turned another color when Olivia asked the question. But that was his Livvie straight to the point. "Olivia when most people envision sex they have no idea what a real sexual encounter is. Plus you and I we don't just have sex we make love and it is a loving marathon. Your doctor hadn't any idea what you and I were going to do last night and you know it."

"Well that is true Mr. President but I am mostly healed from that incident. I didn't think I needed to tell him that my lover is the best in the entire world and that we split our lovemaking up into rounds of two, three, and sometimes even four. He may have had us wait Mr. President and I didn't want to wait and neither did you."

"No I didn't want to wait Olivia. But your health is of paramount importance to me. If it was necessary I could have waited."

"Fitz we have settled this, I am fine. I'm okay. Please let's put this entire fiasco behind us. I want it to be just a bad memory and a forgotten one. I was asleep this morning because last night was the first time in over six months that I have had a good night's sleep. My nights have been restless. To be honest I haven't slept well one night since we parted at Camp David months ago. I was just tired is all. Promise me you aren't going to turn this into something it isn't?"

"Livvie last night was wonderful. I wouldn't take any of it back. I'm sorry for being so worrisome and probably over cautious. I let you be hurt Olivia. I placed a man in your orbit that was a predator and he hurt you. Luckily all you fared was a concussion. I can't minimize my part in that. I won't. I believe you when say you are healing and that you are fine. I have to believe that to stay sane."

OMG! Olivia hadn't fully understood the extent to which Fitz blamed himself for what had happened to her. It wasn't his fault. No matter how you cut it. It wasn't his fault. She was a grown-ass woman that was playing with fire and she got burned. She knew no other man could satisfy her the way Fitz did. She knew it even before she went to meet that fiend. They weren't going to settle this over the phone that was for sure. She couldn't have Fitz blaming himself for what had happened. She would let him bear some of the blame but very little. This was her burden to bear.

"Fitz promise me we will talk this out tonight when you get here. It's not going to be a long conversation. We just need to end the speculation that you are somehow at fault for my follies. I am a grown woman Fitz. I knew right from wrong."

"I promise we will talk Olivia. I love you and part of loving you is protecting you. I failed at that. That is a simple statement of fact."

"Fitzgerald Grant you hurry and finish your business for today and come to me. I don't like the idea that you are carrying this burden around in your head. I know you love me but it's a silly notion that you have to protect me from everything. You are the most powerful man in the world I know that but even you can't do what you are advocating. You can't protect me from everything. I don't need you to always save me Fitz. I am not that type of a girl. I do expect some chivalry but this is the twenty-first century Fitz. A man isn't expected to do everything.

"I know that, I'm a feminist remember. I will be there as soon as I can Livvie. I won't minimize this however. I love you. You are my woman Olivia. It is my job to protect you no matter what you say."

"I love you back Fitz with all my heart and part of my loving you is to protect you from yourself apparently. We will talk when you get here okay?

"Okay Ms Pope, I will see later tonight."

As soon as he hung up Lauren called to say the serving crew from the White House kitchen was outside waiting to bring in lunch. The chef was on his way. Fitz advised her they could come on in. He and Olivia had only scratched the surface on the Ballesston thing. He had dodged it probably long enough. However there didn't need to be a long drawn out conversation about it. In fact he would see that it wasn't. His phone buzzed again, Lauren advised that Mr. Beene was here. Cyrus and the working lunch was becoming a main stay as he caught up with the things he had missed over the last four days and nights.

"Hello Mr. President how are you? This morning was a fun filled one wasn't it? Senator Raymond is one crazy son of a bitch. He's a prime example of why we need term limits. He is way too comfortable with his racist attitude. I know racists make up a large portion of his constituency but it isn't necessary that he be one as well. What a dick. I like the way you neutered him. It was a powerful sit-down. I doubt he will come in your space talking that shit again."

"No I don't think he will. He is very very misguided if he thinks he can talk that shit around me. I won't stand for it ever from anyone. I'm President of every citizen of the United States whether they voted for me or not. I won't have any one of them disparaged in my presence. The sooner these people that are entrenched in racial bigotry know my stance the better off we will all be."

"Speaking of racial bigotry I suspect it may hit you directly sometime soon. Your wife came to my office this morning to talk. Of course she didn't realize she must be on the schedule to speak to the Chief of Staff so naturally there was stand-off. She knows that you and Olivia are back on and that her ruse has failed yet again. She will be trouble Sir. I can assure you that I won't play her games. But she is a loose cannon so be careful."

"I'll deal with Mellie. I told her I wanted a divorce this morning and naturally she didn't take it well. You just let me know what you suspect her angle will be if she has one. Let's eat Cy. I really want to talk about these idiots that are poisoning American children with contaminated water. They can't seriously expect to get away with that one. I will not cut back one EPA initiative to help them. I hope they rot in Hell in fact."

"For sure that is on the table this afternoon. However believe it or not Sir there are some scams going on worst than that one. Your party is a piece of work but that's why we are here to clean up their shit. Let's talk and let's eat."

The President had one more important meeting this afternoon. It should wrap around three- thirty and then he would await his children. He was mending fences with them and they were allowing it. He was being given a second chance not only with Olivia but with Jerry and Karen too. He was a lucky man.

Meanwhile back at the residence Mellie was still bitter about her run-in with Cyrus. She hadn't ventured back out since the incident in his office. She was sure that viperous secretary of his had spread the word about the little exchange she and her boss had all over the White House by now. She didn't want to face the added humiliation of people doubly feeling sorry for her. She was going to call down to his office and get an appointment with Cyrus and he had best listen to what she had to say. After he heard it she expected the abomination to act on it. She wanted this divorce thing nipped in the bud quickly. He had better get Fitz in line or he would face that sinking boat she was going to put every last one of them in!

She decided she would sit down and write an outline of ways she could put an end to the threat of divorce from Fitz. She would decide on her best options and then she would put them into play. It was a couple of hours yet until dinner. Also she wanted to talk to her man on the inside to see if he had anymore news. On second thought she wouldn't contact him. She was mad as hell right now with anyone that had a penis and for sure she wasn't going to put up with Hal even for the two minutes it took him to get his rocks off. She would make out her list, maybe take a quick nap and then get ready for dinner.

Dinner time had rolled around and the President and his children were headed to the White House kitchen. They all knew what awaited them there. A loving wife and mother was what most husbands and children expected. That wouldn't be the case with this family so they ventured ahead to face the inevitable. They were eating in the White House kitchen because Cook was off tonight. Fitz was looking at his children both of which looked like they were going to meet the hangman's noose. This was wrong. Children shouldn't dread spending time with their own mother. He had to remedy this situation. His children deserved better than what was on their plate.

In unison Karen and Jerry said "Good evening mother." They both took their seats on the opposite sides of the dinner table. Fitz acknowledged her also and he took his seat. He signaled that dinner could be served. It was obvious Mellie was hot under the collar and she wasted no time charging into her husband.

"That Chief of Staff of yours needs to learn some manners. He was extremely rude to me this morning. He wouldn't even give me five minutes of his precious time today. He brushed me off. I'm the First Lady of the USA he is supposed to make time for me. Plus I am your wife and he literally humiliated me in front of that witch secretary of his. I want you to do something about it sooner rather than later."

"Mellie I would appreciate if we could discuss this at another time. I'm sure the kids would rather not hear you bashing their Uncle Cyrus at the dinner table. We would just like to eat and go back to the residence."

"First of all that creature isn't their Uncle. He is an evil man that hasn't any business around children. He's a homosexual for heaven's sake. And I want to discuss his actions right now. I just told you he was rude to your wife and the mother of your children and I expect you to do something."

"What you can expect me to do is get up from this table if you persist with this foolishness about Cyrus. A discussion of his private life shouldn't be fodder for the dinner table. Our children are well aware of their Uncle's status. If you will recall he sat down and talked to them himself. I agreed it should have been done and so did you at the time. The personal life of the man is none of your affair and I won't allow you to disparage him because you want special treatment from him. You have no official working title in this White House Mellie. You are afforded the title of First Lady only because you are the wife of the President, which is me. No one in this building is obligated to give you a meeting simply because you show up in their office without an appointment. From what I understand you are the one that was rude and inconsiderate. He had every right to tell you to get an appointment. Cyrus isn't an evil man. He has been kind and considerate to this family and he is one of the godfathers to our children. He has always been Uncle Cyrus to them and he always will be. I won't tolerate you slandering him because of his sexual orientation. You are on shaky ground Mellie."

"So you won't defend your own wife?"

"Defend your own foolishness. So no I won't."

"You see children this is how your father treats me. I bet if I were Olivia Pope he would fire the son of bitch on the spot. Your father would indeed see all of this differently if I were his precious Olivia Pope. He has more respect for his glorified Communications Director than his own wife." If Mellie was expecting some output of sympathy from her children she didn't get it. Her children were more than mature for ages and they simply didn't care for their mother. The twelve and almost eleven year old had nothing to say. They loved Olivia and they knew that their father did too. Mellie could see from the looks on their faces that they could care less about her humiliation. Damn Fitzgerald Grant and his brats. Remembering how Fitz had walked out on her last night she would return the favor. She refused to share a meal with the traitors. "If you all will excuse me I seem to have lost my appetite!"

"Kids I'm sorry you had to witness your mother's meltdown. She is on the edge about so many things one hardly knows where to begin to put this all into perspective. Your mother and I are in a very bad place and unfortunately I'm sure we can't recover from it. However she shouldn't expose you two to foul language as well issues that involve adults. I won't allow her to undermine Cyrus or Olivia. They are both extraordinary people that because she can't manipulate them she chooses to disparage them. Your Uncle Cy is a fine man and his private life is his own business. You mother also dislikes Olivia because she knows that you two love her so she wants to pull her into this mess."

Karen had been eating her salad throughout her mother's tirade barely looking up from her salad plate. She was accustomed to her mother's emotional outbursts. She had them often and she didn't care who heard them including children. She stopped eating though after her father stopped talking to weigh in her observation. "I think she knows that you love Olivia too Daddy. You don't exactly hide it you know. I'm not even sure you could. You wear your heart on your sleeve. As for mother when she doesn't get her way or the attention she thinks she deserves she goes off like that. In fact she curses a lot about Olivia."

"Karen sometimes you talk entirely too much. Dad has entirely too much on his plate to have to contend with mother and one of her "Woe is me" rants. She thrives on attention and we all know that but for her to talk about Uncle Cy like that is very petty. He has a right to love who he chooses and actually so should Dad. Mother is on a tear because she basically knows her marriage is over and she doesn't want to face it. For some reason she wants me and you to validate her and unfortunately that is not our job as children," her older brother said.

"Look you guys I know this is a heavy burden for you both because regardless of what your mother says and does she is your mother and deserving of your concern and support. However she is off base with this Cyrus thing. And Karen you are right I do love Olivia. You know that and so does your mother thus the state she is in. I told your mother I want a divorce today and naturally she wasn't pleased. She is seeking someone to rail against since I refuse to entertain her comments. It is an old and tried pattern of hers. You are right Jerry it isn't your job to validate grown people. No matter how mature you and your sister appear you are still children and your mother seems to forget that often."

"Daddy we didn't just come across mother a month ago she has been with us for most of our lives we know her. She sent us off to boarding school at four and six simply because she didn't want us around. It isn't that she doesn't just like children, she doesn't like us. When she first sent Jerry away I cried everyday for a week continuously. When she asked what she could do to shut me up I told her. She had me packaged and out of the house in twenty-four hours. You see we know our mother, who really isn't a mother at all!"

What could a man say to words like these coming from children wise beyond their years? There really were no concrete answers but he knew he had to get them all out of the tangled web they were in. He needed a divorce so he could get on with his life. That being said he had work to do. He was going to lay the ground work as if things were proceeding normally. If Mellie hadn't put the wheels in motion just as he suggested by the first week of November then he would take matters into his own hands. These children no matter their ages and knowledge were under his protection. Mellie had gone too far this evening. Fitz steered them in an area of conversation that made them smile and remember that in spite of it all they really were children. He had to save them all from Mellie it was very clear to him now. The dinner that had started out straight from Hell had ended on a high note.

Fitz walked with the kids back to the Residence. He looked back at his detail and said, "I want to move on that matter no later than nine. Let me know when things are set up and we can address it."

"No problem Mr. President. I will let you know when we are ready."

The President and his children entered the Residence. He walked with them to the children's wing. They spent another few minutes chitchatting. Jerry opted out pretty quickly saying he was out because his regularly scheduled programming was starting he would see them tomorrow. Karen invited her father into her room for more conversation.

"Dad I know you want to move us back here with you. Mother is up in arms about it. She is trying to get me on her side with bribes. She really believes I'm that gullible. She says you will get us here and then ignore us. According to her we are a pawn in your ploy to leave us all behind. Of course I know better but I wanted to warn you of what she is doing. She hasn't approached Jerry because well she knows he can't be manipulated. She still believes I am that six-year kid hanging onto her every word ripe for her attention and machinations. That little girl is long gone she no longer exists. Be careful Daddy she can be very dangerous when she is cornered."

Fitz looked at his baby girl and he wondered when she had become so wise and quite frankly adult-like. Had he and Mellie really been as selfish and self-serving as it appeared they had been? He had been on a mission to become President to prove something to his father at first and then he realized he could actually make a difference. He had found Olivia and she became his next quest and his children had been pushed to back of his life simply because he despised their mother. Jerry and Karen weren't their mother. They were his children, his own flesh and blood and he had failed them so miserably in their formative years. The two of them had bonded together to save themselves and in the mist of having two parents disconnected from them they had gone from being children to being "almost" adults. They no longer reacted as children. It was sad and it was shaming. How on God's green earth would he make it up to them?

"Thank-you for the warning Karen I suspect you are 100% correct. Your mother is on the warpath and all that is in that path should be on alert. I stand forewarned. Don't fret for me Karen I can handle your mother. We have been locked in mortal combat for years. I will move you and Jerry back here. I'm just waiting for the end of the school year. I have two established schools that I want you to look at. I'm in favor of Sidwell but the choice will be up to you and Jerry. I know you want to be together so I have only investigated co-ed institutions. However you two are coming home to Washington, DC for good. This is our last year of separation before you and Jerry head off for college. We are going to be a family!"

Karen turned and hugged her father. "Thank-you Daddy for loving us it means the world to us. We want to come home we really do. We need to come home to protect you daddy. Mother isn't the only mean person in this crazy Capital of ours. I love you Daddy. Tell Olivia I said hello and I would love to see her before we leave."

"Karen you are too much baby girl. I love you back. Olivia has been in the hospital. She was injured about a week ago. She fell and hit her head. She is on the mend now but she is on bed rest and really shouldn't have any visitors. I will tell her you asked about her though."

"She really shouldn't have any visitors but you are going to see her?"

"Karen what did I tell you about grown folks and their business? Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite. I will see you tomorrow. Goodnight."

"Goodnight Daddy."

The President went down the long hallway to the master suite. He was going to change into something more casual. He wanted out of the suit he had been in all day. It was still early evening he looked around for Mellie. He wondered where she was but he really didn't care. That little stunt at dinner tonight was appalling but appalling people did appalling things. She had best leave their children out of their mess. It was bad enough that they knew so many of the particulars. He went into his closet looking for some jeans and a polo shirt. They would be nice and relaxing. He just wanted to spend the night with Olivia. Just holding her would be enough. They had that bit of laundry to air and then they would decide where they would go. He had stripped down to his underwear when he heard Mellie. She stepped into his walk-in closet and posed with her hand on her hip.

"Going to bed or are you off to fuck your mistress?"

Fitzgerald Grant sighed and said, "That is none of your business. What do you want Mellie?"

"You should've defended me tonight in front of our children. You are a piece of work."

"I won't rehash that filth you spewed at the dinner table tonight. It should've been even beneath your poor taste but I guess not. At any rate what or where I'm going is none of your affair. Stick to the script Mellie. Stay away from me. Don't harass my children or try to push them into the games you play. Use the other pawns you have here in the White House but leave Karen and Jerry out of this mess. Concentrate on getting a divorce the one thing that will set this family free. That should be your only job right now. Please don't put on another shameful display like you did tonight at dinner. It was disgusting."

"You don't tell me what to do in reference to children I carried for nine months and pushed out of my body for your political concerns. They are mine to do with as I see fit. By the way they don't need to come and live here in this White House to have it bantered about in the hallways how you are in heat sniffing after Olivia Pope. They are entirely too young to find out what a base and immoral creature you are. I am trying to spare them the enlightenment of who and what you really are!"

"Well now isn't that rich? You sent those kids off to boarding school when they were little more than toddlers. None of us had ever heard the name Olivia Pope back then so exactly what is your story? You don't care about those kids Mellie you never have. Like you said, you pushed them out of your body for political concerns. You aren't a mother you were a womb and incubator nothing more."

"And you were you anything more than a sperm donor? You came to me and made a deposit. I could have gotten the same action with a turkey baster."

"That is true. Relieving myself with my own hand would've no doubt been much more pleasurable and I could have presented the outcome to you in a cup and you could have used that turkey baster. Sexual relations with you is one chore I choose never to do again. Since you know that I abstained from any sexual activity for more than twelve years should give you an idea of just how really really bad the sex between us was."

"I hate your guts. I'm going to bring you down Fitzgerald Grant I promise you."

"Do your damnest Mellie. Just don't forget you are going down too, that I can promise you! And please we have been over this, stay out of my space in this suite! I have only two things to discuss with you, (1) the welfare of my children and (2) the particulars of our divorce. All this other manure you want to discuss save it for the lawyers."

Fitz had donned his clothes and he was out of there. Every encounter with this woman was worse than the last. She always pushed him further than he wanted to go. She said vile hateful things and then he retaliated in kind. They obviously hated each other so why continue with the façade any longer?

"Go on to your whore. I repeat I will never give you a divorce!"

He refused to continue this tit for tat. He was done talking to her for the moment. She was going to see that he meant business this time. He left his closet, the suite, and the Residence. He would wait for the call that they could head to Olivia's from the Oval. Let Mellie rant to herself.

Finally he arrived at Olivia's and he knocked on the door. Of course he had a key but he wanted her to know that she always had the option of letting him in or not. He had surprised her a few times over the years but it was rare. Mellie had him in a mood tonight and he needed to shake it. He didn't bring Mellie to this place if he could help it. She was poison.

Olivia let him in smiling and saying how glad she was he was back. She poured him a scotch on the rocks and she was drinking water tonight. She had read her release papers thoroughly and she had missed the area where the doctor suggested no alcohol. She really didn't need liquid courage to talk to Fitz. He was an easy man to talk to. Olivia intended to put this current issue in the past quickly. Not talking was the reason Jake Ballesston had been in this picture in the first place. It was one of the reasons she was now home on complete bed rest for a week. The main reason however was her being stubborn and foolish. No other man can replace Fitzgerald Grant and she knew that since the first night she lay with him. He was the one!

None of this was the fault of Fitzgerald Grant. He had never wanted to break-up or have her leave him. She had instigated that part of it because of Mellie's appearance at the cabin. Their breech had occurred because of her. So she started in right away telling Fitz the things on her mind. He could love her and bring her under his protection and still things could happen because she was her own woman and she was accustomed to doing things her way. Nonetheless she should have listened to him and not let Mellie's words torment her so. That had been the sole purpose of Mellie coming to the cabin to throw a hitch in their relationship and she had succeeded. Looking back Olivia couldn't believe she had been so foolish.

Fitz let Olivia have the lead in this conversation she wanted to have. However on his end he ended it abruptly with a few words. "You have seen the light. You know what Mellie is capable of. You won't fall for her machinations again will you? You will listen to me? You won't leave me again? I can't run your life Olivia because you are your own woman and as much as I love you I can't always protect you, but Sweet Baby you have to let me try. Because I chose you Olivia you have to let me try! If you keep these simple things in mind before you react we will be fine Olivia I promise you."

"I get your drift. I should just sit back and let you lord all over me? I should let you be cave mannish and shit?"

"I don't want to lord over you Olivia. You know me better than that. You have been on your own since you were twelve years old. You have had so much on your shoulders, in fact way too much. I'm asking that you don't just let me love you Olivia, let me cherish and protect you. I have to do this because I have no other choice. You are mine Olivia to have and to hold, just you. No divorce papers or the fact that Mellie is still my wife, it doesn't mean jack. You are the one! Don't be afraid to put yourself in my care and protection Olivia, I promise I would never allow you to lose yourself. Plus you love it when I go cave mannish and shit and you know it!" He was smiling that smile that immediately made her want to drop her panties.

"I do love it. You are my own personal cave man and I was hoping for signs of it tonight. I don't want to be coddled Fitz. I want to be loved by you and I want all facets of it."

"Then you shall have it. Stand up Ms Pope."

Olivia stood up and as soon as she did Fitz whisked her over his shoulder caveman style and carried her into the bedroom. Unceremoniously he plunked her down in the middle of the bed. "Pull off your clothes woman and be quick about it!"

Olivia laughed out loud and started to undress. "You also caveman, drop 'em!"

Their banter had started out playful but soon it had grown into full blown sexual aggression from both of them. The six months they had been apart had left them both emotional drained and destabilized. Their coming together this second night would be more than just a sexual release it was a healing of body and soul.

Olivia always said she wanted to experience everything and she wanted Fitz to experience everything too. Last night had just been a sampling; tonight was to be a feast for them both. She had been first last night. She wanted this initial round to be about him, it was only fair. Thus far he had been the aggressor during most of the foreplay. Olivia signaled to him she wanted to reverse their positions. She wanted to be on top. He reversed their positions. As this made her breasts more accessible he started right in on them. He loved her breasts. The way the nipples hardened and elongated at his touch, the way they swelled in his hands, and most of all he loved watching the areola darkened from brown to almost black as her sexual intensity heightened and she neared completion. It really turned him on. There wasn't one thing about the way Olivia responded to him that hadn't been ingrained in his memory. He left nothing to chance he wanted her to feel everything.

Her hair was down the way he liked it during sex. She ran her finger through her hair and pulled it all to one side of her face. She cupped her own breasts and tweaked her own nipples exclusively for his viewing pleasure as soon as he released them. He was looking at her with lust filled eyes that had long ago gone from bright blue to nearly black in passion. Watching her manipulate her own breasts was very sexy and tantalizing. He never took his eyes from her as he was rubbing one of her arms sensually up and down with one hand while the other hand lay in between them with the soft pad of his thumb glistening with her juices. With that thumb he was gently circling her engorged nubbin.

"What do you want Sweet Baby, tell me?" he said with that sexy voice of his.

Olivia just about lost it. His voice sent a code directly to her core. She was thinking if he would just put two fingers inside her she could work herself into a frenzy, but low and behold it wasn't her turn. It was his. She intended to give him what he wanted first. "What do you want Mr. President?

"Whatever you choose to give I want that."

That statement was so Fitz. He was always so giving. She couldn't bring to mind an encounter sexual or otherwise where he was thinking of himself. She knew she could be selfish she wouldn't even try to deny it. However tonight she wanted what happened between them to be all about him. He had once told her he sought to brand her so she would never forget what they share. That was her mission tonight.

She started with a soul stirring kiss, sucking his tongue and rimming his lips. She peppered his face with little kisses. She bit at his earlobes before her tongue circled the outside folds. She did little sucking motions at his neck, she didn't intent to leave hickeys but maybe she would. All of this was a prelude of where she was going. From his neck she started a trail of little licks and kisses down to the center of his chest. She latched on to first one nipple and then the other sucking and eliciting pleasurable sounds from her lover. She returned to his center with more kisses leading to his navel. He was an inny and she dove inside with her tongue, then she was out of there following that thin line of hair leading to where he wanted her to go.

Fitz was on fire. He had braced himself because he knew what Olivia was capable of. She knew just what he liked and she would take him completely over a cliff if he allowed her to. He was watching her as she advanced. She would look up from her assault on his senses periodically to see if he were still watching, he was. Her ministrations and his anticipation had him rock hard and leaking. "Livvie please Sweet Baby I need you."

The object of her desire was so magnificent twitching and elongating before her very eyes. It was reaching for her. It was leaking because of her. Her eyes were now dark with passion. Her hands encircled him. She licked him from base to tip. With her finger she tasted the pearly white droplets just before her lips descended on him. The President uttered the only word he could through clenched teeth, "Livvie."

Fitzgerald Grant knew he would explode in her mouth if he didn't stop her soon. She was remarkable and she felt so damn good but he really wanted to be inside her. He wanted to feel her velvet walls surrounding and clutching him. He wanted to make her come and when she convulsed he wanted those convulsions to send him over the edge. Reluctantly he pulled her from him and embroiled her in a kiss where their tongues fought for superiority. It was a fervent kiss and it was filled with promise of what was coming. They both sucked and retreated. Olivia was enjoying herself driving him crazy with her sexual prowess. The woman did things that left him awake nights. His middle finger found her core. It was juicy and wet. He pushed the finger completely inside and then he pulled it back out. He placed the finger between their mouths and they both began to lick it.

"You taste so good Livvie."

"So do you Fitz," she whispered in his ear. "I want to ride to end this one Fitz. Do you mind?"

"Whatever you want Sweet Baby I am yours to command. Take me inside you and bring us both where we want to go."

She positioned her legs where they would be most comfortable. She held him in her hands positioning him where she wanted him. He was completely still he would only move at her request. Olivia moved ever so slightly on the tip to coat it with her essence. Fitz wasn't moving down below but his hands were everywhere. They were kneading her breasts. He would place his fingers in her mouth so she could suck on them. She put her fingers in his mouth so he could suck on hers. He wanted inside so badly but Olivia had to do it. This was her call. Finally she had risen over him and she started to lower herself onto to him. She didn't stop until he was completely imbedded within her. Then she began swirling on that wood. Over and over again she moved looking directly into his passion-filled eyes. For several minutes it was all she was doing swirling. She was waiting for something and she wouldn't stop until she heard it!

"Olivia you are killing me," the President hissed out. "You feel so fucking good. Promise me you won't stop."

"I won't stop I promise." That was what she had been listening for. She started pulling up as if she would dislodge him but she didn't. She pulled up precisely to the crown and then she would impale herself on him as he glided over her spot over and over again. She was lost in the emotions and the sexual intensity of their mating. It was so good moving on him. But how much better would it be if he were moving too?

"Do you want to move now Fitz? I want you to move. I want to feel you going in and out of me."

"Put your legs here Livvie and back up a bit. Rest your back on my legs."

He pushed her back until he could see where they were joined. "You push in and I pull out Olivia. We are going to create a friction that is going to be so good. Move with me Livvie. Remember you push and I pull. That's it Sweet Baby, that's the motion we want."

Fitz had been right the friction was extraordinary. Olivia was dying from the pleasure. She was moaning and mewing and searching for something to hold onto. She knew she was about to explode into a million pieces. She reached out to mesh her hands with his for she knew she would no longer be of this earth when orgasmic bliss overtook her. She closed her eyes as the first wave engulfed her and she screamed his name. It was seismic as her walls collapsed on him and started to quiver continuously on his him. He held back as long as he could and then he pumped home for his finale. On that final stroke when he felt his sac tighten he pushed himself fully within her and roared. He flooded her insides with all he had. When the lovers could speak again they spoke of the wonder that had just passed between them.

"Every time I am with you Fitz I am left speechless with what I feel. The sex between us it is edifying. I have no words to describe it. I love you so much. I'm so glad we are back together."

"Olivia what we have is so much more than just a sexual encounter. We make love to each other. We reciprocate feelings. We elicit the best from each other. I love you so much too Livvie. I'm so grateful to have you back. My soul is at peace. You want to talk some more or do you want to rest a while? Did you eat your dinner?

"I did eat a nice dinner and I love how we talk after sex about us and the things important to us. I know it is selfish of me but I'm wiped out Fitz. I want to sleep for a while and then when I wake up we could possibly go for a round two okay?"

"Of course we can. Go to sleep Sweet Baby and let me hold you." She was asleep in a matter of minutes. Fitz knew Olivia would be out for at least two or three hours unless he awakened her which he might do. He had to be back at the White House before dawn. It was possible he wouldn't see her but for a short while tomorrow. He was spending the day with his children and on Sunday he had decided he would take them back to school himself which meant he might not see her at all. Of course Olivia would understand but he was bereft to leave her during this at home recovery period.

The President tightened his hold on Olivia and closed his eyes. He tired and weary not from what had just happened between them but rather from the sleepless days and nights he suffered after he found out that Olivia had been hurt. He decided he was going to let them awakened naturally. They both needed several good nights of sleep. It took him a few minutes but soon he was fast asleep as well. The lovers had a long row to hoe. There were obstacles in their way but none of that kept both lovers from dreams of a sustained future where they were married with children!
