This didn't really come out great, and the way Robin generally acts in this chapter is how I felt writing it.
Robin looked at the woman seated across from him. He sighed to himself.
This was going to be awkward.
"Emmeryn," He said. "I'm not entirely sure why you fought for us in the first place."
"I'm...sorry." The former Exalt looked down.
"I don't mean that like as a bad thing!" Robin exclaimed. "What I mean is that, well, you jumped off a cliff! And we found you! Alive! That's a good thing! And Chrom and Lissa and all of them were really happy!" Robin scratched the back of his head. "I mean, I guess I was, too, but we didn't really know each other that well. I was a bit mess up after your death, but only because I was running through the event in my head, trying to see where I made mistakes." He grinned at Emmeryn. "The good news is that your fall wasn't my fault! In fact, it gave us a huge tactical advantage!"
Emmeryn looked at him, confused. "...Thank...you?"
Robin face fell. "Oh, no. I was rambling. That sounded way worse than I meant it to. What I'm trying to say is you are really important to Chrom, so I was surprised when he told me you were considered one of the Shepherds. That meant that we could use you for battles. That's insane. The only profit I could see from that is people thinking Chrom runs a zombie army, seeing the dead fighting for him!" Robin exclaimed. "Although, by the time you joined us, we were pretty much fighting dead Risin exclusively, so they can't really spread the story." He commented.
"Um...What?" Emmeryn asked.
"Right. I haven't really gotten to the point." Robin commented. "I'm surprised Chrom didn't ship you off somewhere safe after we found you. I'm even more surprised that he let you fight for us. What can you do, anyway?" He asked gently.
"...Heal…" She said softly.
"..." Robin looked at her with a strained expression. Don't be a dick don't be a dick don't be a dick, He thought to himself.
"Emm," Robin said carefully, "I'm afraid...we prefer our healers to...have more skills."
"So...I'm not...needed?" She asked sadly.
"Not by the Shepherds, but I'm sure you can do your own thing." Robin replied. "What, you're with Priam now, right? He's watching out for you?"
"Yes...Priam…" She said, closing her eyes and smiling. "Strong...kind...love…"
"...For Naga's sake, you can't leave two Shepherds without them hooking up or something!" Robin exclaimed. "You and Priam, Lissa and Frederick, Henry and Nowi, pretty much every married couple in the Shepherds- Oh God, I did that." Robin realized.
"What…?" Emmeryn asked.
"I would pair Shepherds off for strategic reasons." Robin explained. "Frederick could protect Lissa while she healed people. Sumia could bring Chrom across great distances. Hell, I fought alongside Lucina because I was used to fighting alongside Chrom and, since Lucina was there, Chrom could do other stuff...All those people got married."
"That's...how people connect…" Emmeryn commented. "They...spend time...together...Fall in love...Coincidence…"
Robin smiled at the former Exalt. "You're right. That's just kinda how it works." He sighed. "So, do you understand why I'm letting you go?"
"I...suppose…" She responded.
"Good." Robin responded. Emmeryn got up and slowly left the room.
"...Hopefully Chrom can deal with the Priam thing." He said to himself. "If he goes after it the same way he went after me with the whole Lucina thing…" He paused. "Well, Priam is bigger than me, so he might be able to put up a fight."
You can't be mean to Emmeryn, especially post-fall Emmeryn! There isn't any comedy in there!
