Did you hear?
"Ok." Robin said calmly. "We shouldn't freak out yet. We haven't opened them yet. It could be a fluke."
Lucina had uncharacteristically barged into Robin's office, holding something. When he asked what it was, she revealed the letter.
Robin wasn't surprised that the latter had the Smash symbol on it.
However, what did surprise him was that there were two of them.
"I don't know what to expect." Lucina said. "You kept gushing about how important this symbol was, but you never really explained it to me."
"I'll explain it to you once we open them." He said, as Lucina handed him the letter addressed to him. "We don't know if they say the same thing. They could be different messages."
"So you want to open them at the same time?" Lucina said.
"Sure. Let's be all romantic like that." Robin replied.
They broke the seals and read the letters.
"...No fucking way…" Robin muttered.
"...This is a tournament invite." Lucina said. "'Super Smash Brothers?' What is that?" She looked at her husband. "Robin?"
He looked at Lucina.
"Robin?" Chrom said, opening the door to Robin and Lucina's living quarters. "Are you in here?" There didn't seem to be anyone home. The only thing he could hear was a rapid creaking sound.
As he walked toward the sound, however, a voice interrupted him.
"Hello, Grandfather!"
"Oh," Chrom turned around, toward the kitchen. "Hello, Morgan." Morgan was sitting at the kitchen table, drinking a cup of tea and flipping through a book.
"Are you here to see Father?" She asked.
"Yeah." Chrom said, pulling out a piece of paper. "I got this letter from someone called 'Master Hand.' He said I got rejected from some sort of fighting thing, which is weird since I never applied. He said that I did get the position as 'Robin's go-to friend' and 'an extra hour in the ball pit.' This is honestly one of the most Robin-sounding letters I've ever gotten."
"Oh, that sounds pretty pricey." Morgan commented.
Chrom looked at her. "...What?" He asked, confused.
"Father says I'm leaning!" She replied, giving Chrom a cup of tea.
"...Right. Anyway, I was wondering where Robin might be." He said, taking a sip.
"Oh, that sound is him and Mother." Morgan replied, smiling.
Chrom promptly spit out his tea. "W-W-What?!"
"Yeah, they seemed really happy about the letters they got. They got to it, just like bunnies!" Morgan replied, she handed Chrom two pieces of paper that happened to be on the table.
Chrom read both of them over. "...So they got into this 'Smash Brotherhood' thing, but I'm only around to…" He looked at his letter. "... 'Use the power of friendship to kick ass.' What does this mean?"
"Spinoff!" Morgan exclaimed.
Chrom was about to replied, when he heard a moaning sound. His face turned beet red.
"...Do...do you want to go to my quarters and have tea with Sumia?" He asked Morgan, obviously uncomfortable.
"Sure!" Morgan exclaimed. "Grandmother did want to talk to me about stuff with Yarne! Let's go, Grandfather!" She grabbed his hand and dragged him out of the quarters.
Chrom decided, at that moment, the idea of listening to his granddaughter and his wife talk about sex was the lesser of two evils, when compared to listening to his daughter and best friend…
And now...Various Takes on the Flying Tactician!
Just as Captain Falcon was about to land a hit on Lucina, green waves of energy came crashing down on him. He jumped back, dodging the attack. He and Lucina looked up at the source of the attack.
Robin looked down at the two fighters from midair.
"It's going to be alright." He said calmly.
Lucina smiled.
Nothing happened.
"...Robin?"
"...I'm stuck." Robin said, waving his arms a bit. "Guys? I'm kinda stuck up here!"
"How did you even get up there?" Lucina asked.
"It doesn't matter!" Robin exclaimed. "Get a scientist or something! Get that dude from Brain Age! He's smart!"
"Ok, Ok!" Lucina exclaimed, running out of the arena.
"...Am I going to die up here?"
Or this.
"It's going to be alright." Robin said.
Before Lucina could respond, Robin swooped down, picked her up, and flew away.
Falcon and Chrome looked off to where Robin flew away.
"...Falcon punch?" The captain asked.
"...I think my soul is bleeding…" Chrom groaned.
Robin flew through the star-covered sky, carrying his wife in his arms.
"I could show you the world," He sang. "Shining, Shimmering, Splendid!/ Tell me, Princess, the last time that you let your heart decide."
"How are you flying?" Lucina asked, but Robin continued.
"I can open your eyes/Take you wonder by wonder/Over, sideways and under/ With my badass flying swag!'
"What's a 'swag?'" Lucina asked, still confused about what was happening.
"A whole new world- Wanna do it?" Robin suddenly asked.
"...Fine."
More on that.
"It's going to be alright." Robin said.
Before Lucina could respond, Robin swooped down, picked up her father, and flew away.
"...So I guess he's just taking him somewhere safe?" Lucina said to herself.
Robin flew through the star-covered sky, carrying his best friend in his arms.
"I could show you the world," He sang. "Shining, Shimmering, Splendid!/ Tell me, Exalt, the last time that you let your heart decide."
"Robin, as...interesting as it is that you can fly, I am in a bit of pain, so if you could just-"
"I can open your eyes/Take you wonder by wonder/Over, sideways and under/ With my badass flying swag!'
"Why are you singing?!" Chrom exclaimed.
"A whole new world/A new fantastic point of view/No one to tell us no or where to go/Or say we're only dreaming." Robin paused.
"What?" Chrom asked.
"Damn it, Chrom!" Robin exclaimed. "You were supposed to jump in there!"
"I have no idea what you were singing!" Chrom responded.
"Ugh! Worst best friend/ father-in-law ever!"
If I had my way, this entire story would just be musical numbers.
"It's going to be alright." Robin said.
Before Lucina could respond, Robin swooped down, picked up Captain Falcon, and flew away.
"...What?" Lucina said.
Chrom would have commented, but he was in far too much pain.
Robin flew through the star-covered sky, carrying Captain Falcon in his arms.
"I could show you the world," He sang. "Shining, Shimmering, Splendid!/ Tell me, Falcon, the last time that you let your heart decide."
"SHOW ME YA MOVES!"
"I can open your eyes/Take you wonder by wonder/Over, sideways and under/ With my badass flying swag!'
"COME ON!"
"A whole new world/A new fantastic point of view/No one to tell us no or where to go/Or say we're only dreaming." Robin sang.
"A whole new world," Falcon sang. "A dazzling place I never knew\But when I'm way up here, it's crystal clear/That now I'm in a whole new world with you!"
They flew off into the sunset and were never heard from again.
I'm actually pretty flattered about how many people jumped up to tell me about the announcement. Thanks!
I was actually kinda expecting Robin to be confirmed, pretty much for the same reasons he was confirmed. Lucina surprised me, actually.
I'll tell you now, originally, the Smash spinoff would have be based off of Pete Holmes "Street Fighter: Red Tape." Robin, who, for the purpose of that idea, didn't get confirmed for Smash, being hired by Master Hand to be the Smash Brother's Public Relations guy. He would have to regulate the fighters, as opposed to the firings he did in this story. Lucina, who I also wasn't expecting, would have gotten a job at what could best be described as the Starbucks of the Nintendo universe. It would slowly drive her insane.
I still have a lot of stuff from the original idea I can use, which is good.
Master Hand, as you could somewhat gather from this, is what I would like to describe as 'worse Robin.'
I suppose I should say now that default Robin has been the Robin build I've been writing this story as. I decided to make the description vague enough that you could fit your own Robin in the position, but now I'm just going to clear that up, since I might make some appearance references/jokes in the future.
Up next: Out of continuity, Severa, in all her tsundere glory!
