"Hey I'm going to be late tonight. One of your agents asked a favor of me."
"Oh which one?" Tony asked as he talked to Tim over the phone. They had a date night planned but it seemed that had been changed.
"A Chris Pacci. He asked me to look up some accident reports for a cold case he is investigating."
"Okay well it sounds like you'll be in DC when you find those so I'll see you then."
"Yes I'll see you after I find everything it will probably be late."
Tony hung up his own phone as Kate's started to ring. He debated before he stood up and answered it.
"Hello Caitlin Todd's phone. No she isn't here right now can I take a message?"
"Tony give me that." Kate snapped taking the phone from her.
"Hello Dwayne. Sounds good." She turned to Tony "I do have voice mail you know.
"But what's the fun of that. So Dwayne huh."
"You need a social life" Kate snapped
"Oh I Have a social life" if only she knew Tony internally chuckled
"What is it tonight celebrity mole"
"No best of Jackass " he teased.
"Well as fun as all of this is I Have a date."
They were walking out of the bull pen when Gibbs stopped them.
"No one is going anywhere Chris Pacci was murdered" that stopped them both in their tracks. Tony's mind was whirling. Chris Pacci murdered, and Tim was off looking for information for him. He had to tell Gibbs. He had to not care if it would blow their secret.
"Um Boss."
"Yes Dinozzo?"
"Well I was just talking to Agent McGee you know the agent from Norfolk helped us a few times. Anyway Pacci had asked him to look up some information so he's doing that tonight.
"Wait why are you talking to agent McGee about plans." Kate asked as her mind whirled.
"Well we talk sometimes. I was calling him to thank him for his help on the last case and he was telling me what he was doing." Tony threw in.
Kate just glared. It seemed plausible but she just did not buy it.
Gibbs on the other hand had worry beating on his heart so hard he didn't even think about what may or may not be going between his SFA and his son. "Okay I'll call him." Tony noticed the fear flashing in his eyes and knew that if anyone looked close enough they'd see the same in his own eyes.
"Okay you two meet me at the car. I have a call to make." Tony and Kate walked towards the elevator as Gibbs took his phone out and dialed Tim's number.
"Hello." Tim answered. "Hey Tony told me you were looking up something for Agent Pacci did you find what he asked for?"
"actually yes I just found it what's going on?" Tim knew Tony wouldn't have offered the information unless something had happened.
"Chris Pacci is dead. He was murdered I need you to get whatever he asked you to bring over here first thing in the morning."
"Okay I'll see you then." With that the phone call was ended and Tim got into his car.
Tim: just talked to my dad. I will be at your apartment when you get here.
Tony: Okay see you then and stay safe.
"Okay Tony how come you've been talking to Agent Mcgee that is strange." Kate said when they got off the elevator.
"Yes Kate I know having friends is strange to you but I in fact have some."
"Tony." He just ignored her. The crime scene was hard to process and the evidence was even more hard to go through. Once they made it back to the yard and found the memory card that Pacci had swallowed and reaized he was trailing a woman Gibbs new they had to go and investigate his apartment that night.
"You Two go to Pacci's apartment see if you can find anything.
"Tonight." Kate whined thinking of her date.
"Yes tonight." Gibbs barked glaring at her.
"Fine." She huffed "I have a call to make." With that she stalked off wondering why she had this job sometimes.
"Is there anyone you need to call Dinozzo." He asked looking at his SFA.
"No Boss. I'll just go wait for Kate by the elevator." He walked towards the elevator and pulled out his phone.
Tony: Are you at my place yet? I am going to be later then expected have to process Pacci's place.
Tim: Just got here. Why don't I run down to the corner Deli and get some food so you can eat when you get home
Tony: Sounds good love you.
He slipped his phone in his pocket as Kate came up. "Who were you texting?"
"No body are you ready to go?"
"Yes." She sighed as they made their way out of the yard and to Pacci's apartment.
Late that night Tony stumbled into his apartment. He found Tim asleep on the couch the file for Pacci on the coffee table. "Tim." He whispered sitting down next to his sleeping boyfriend.
"Huh?" Tim woke up blinking. "Oh Tony." He whispered sitting up. "There is food on the counter sorry I feel asleep."
"Shh it's fine." He whispered "Why don't you go to the bedroom and lay down. I will eat really quick and join you,"
"Okay." Tim yawned. "Tony I'm sorry about your friend."
"Thank you." He whispered back kissing Tim gently as he watched the younger man go into the bedroom. He ate quickly and then followed him in. no more words were exchanged as both man crashed.
They both left around the same time the next morning pulling in beside each other at the navy Yard. Unknown to them Kate saw them get out of their cars and smile at each other. Her suspicions were raised. What was going on between the two agents.
"Agents Gibbs I have the file that Pacci wanted." He said walking in to the bull pen behind Tony. He handed it over to his father
"ooh is this a sandwich you know I didn't eat anything this morning you don't mind do you Mcee."
"Tony." He snatched his sandwich back up getting another narrow eyed look from Kate
"Okay Mcgee I'd going to have you TOA'd over here for this case." Gibbs said putting the file down.
"Need a place to stay?" Abby winked coming into the bull pen.
"Uh no I'm fine." Tim said and swallowed because now he knew his dad would be expecting him to stay at the house.
Tony and tim shared a look as Gibbs told them to get to work.
Tim found out where the mystery woman lived and of course Tony tried to steal the credit.
"Have an address boss." Tony said as McGee came in carrying four cups of coffee putting one down on each of the desks.
"McGee you didn't have to get me coffee." Kate said.
"How did you find it" Gibbs asked taking the coffee from his son, he gave a small smile.
"Process of elimination." Tony said causing Tim to roll his eyes.
"McGee good job on the address. " Gibbs said. As he walked toward the elevator. Tony you're with me."
"How did he know." Tony whined. Tim just chuckled as Kate smirked.
Gibbs and Tony made it to the mystery ladies townhouse as Gibbs looked around. "I bet that's where Pacci was watching her from." He pointed to a for rent sign.
"So should we go and talk to her boss?"
"No not yet. Pacci was watching her for a reason. Lets keep it that way for now. I think it's time for a stake out. "Excuse me is the place still for rent?" Gibbs asked the man who was obviously the landlord.
Yes." He looked between Gibbs and Tony. "Are you two like together." Tony's stomach turned at the very thought.
"No." Gibbs flashed his badge and they quickly rented the place.
"That was disturbing." Tony said coming into the bull pen with Gibbs behind him.
"What?" Kate asked.
"The landlord at the apartments across from our mark thought me and Gibbs were a couple." He shivered.
"Jeez Dinozzo I'm going to start taking offense soon." Gibbs said.
He didn't notice the disgusted look on his son's face but Kate did and she narrowed her eyes through her laughter.
"Okay enough of that. Dinozzo McGee you two are taking the first shift me and Kate are taking the second. Kate watched with interested eyes. She noticed something in their eyes but didn't say anything.
"McGee can I talk you really quick."
"Um sure boss." Tim followed his father into the elevator. "What's up."
"First of all don't let Dinozzo rile you up he likes to do that so just ignore him okay."
"Oh sure I can handle Tony no problem." Tim chuckled.
"Also thank you for all the help you've been giving us these last few weeks it means a lot."
Tim just swallowed and nodded as they got out of the elevator. "Tony let's go." He called out leaving Kate and Gibbs alone.
"Coming Mcimpaitent jeez." Tony grabbed his bag and rushed towards the elevator.
"Do you really think that was wise." Kate asked.
"What?" Gibbs asked.
"Tony and McGee together." She didn't say more
"They will be fine." Gibbs said knowing his son could hold his own.
"You know I think Kate is starting to get suspicious." Tim said as he and Tony sat up their equipment in the apartment.
"Why do you say that?"
"Because I've been noticing her giving us strange looks all day.
"Ah I wouldn't think anything of it. Tony assured him.
"if you say so."
"Even if she does figure it out Its not like she'll say anything or that she'll figure it all out. "
"Are you sure?"
"Yes Kate isn't like that."
They settled into the stake out. Digging through trash and trying to hear conversations. That's when it happened. Tony was told to make contact with Amanda Reed. Gibbs wanted someone on the inside. Tim had to take a deep breath it wasn't like he could object to it.
"Hey look at me." Tony whispered before going over to make contact with Amanda Reed. "No matter what you see remember it's not real. I love you."
Tim just nodded no one noticed Kate standing in the doorway she quickly backed out. Her suspicions confirmed. Now did she confront Tony about them that was something she wasn't sure about.
It all went to hell once they realized that Amanda was leading a double life that she was a he and that Tony was in danger. As the three of them rushed to save him Tim's heart beat was in his throat.
Once Tony was safe Tim about collapsed and Kate watched them seeing the real love and fear residing there and wondering how long they had been a couple it was obvious even to her that this wasn't new. "He's fine." She whispered to him. And he looked up at her and knew she knew the truth.
"Thank you." He whispered.
And she couldn't even bring herself to tease Tony as she watched the two of them walk out of the bull pen that night.
"Kate knows." Tim said.
"Really?" Tony turned to him.
"Yes I'm not sure how but she knows."
"so does she know it all?"
"No just you and me I don't think she'll say anything though.
'Told you she wouldn't." Tony said "my place."
Tim nodded and followed him home.
A/N so that took a twist I wasn't expecting. Kate was not supposed to find out yet but oh well the muse does what it. Will. I don't think Gibbs will find out till SWAK but who knows what the muse will decide. I'm not sure if Kate will ever find out the Gibbs/Mcgee secret. Thanks to those who reviewed.
