More than anything, it seemed like they were linked by touch. Their whole relationship had been shaped and defined by it.
It started with their nearly disastrous first meeting, where their weapons clashed and they traded more than a few bare knuckled blows before Homura was able to stop them. She remembered the thrill that burned through her body at the contact, though for reasons that were entirely different from when she felt it now.
They hadn't touched again until that fierce, protective hug at the train station that shocked Sayaka just enough out of her self pity that she was able to see some point in her continued existence. Even that might not have been enough to save her had Kyoko not recovered the Grief Seed that she had foolishly thrown away during her encounter with Homura. She still remembered the feel of those fingers wrapped around her own, clutching the Grief Seed and Soul Gem together between them.
The first kiss had sent a jolt through her whole system, a tingling that she could feel in the tips of her ears and fingers. Her lips were actually numbed by the sensation. For a brief moment, with her eyes closed and blood pounding in her ears, the feel of the other girl's lips was the only thing she was aware of. The moment passed, and the next brought with it the sweet smell of her skin, but it was that first sensation that she remembered most clearly, and treasured above all else.
Fighting back to back, more times than she could count, offered yet another feeling that the contact between their bodies could provide, this one a sense of security even during the worst hunts. Those moments when their backs actually touched and she could feel the other girl's pulse joining her own…she never felt as safe as when her other half was pressed against her, their weapons in hand—except for when…
Nestled together in the comfort of a home—Sayaka's parents' house for the first couple of years, then their own apartment, and, perhaps one day, a house of their own—whether they were snuggled up on the couch watching a movie, or she was lying with her head in her love's lap, hair being brushed with gentle, almost tender strokes, offered a feeling of serenity that couldn't be beat.
And then there were those most intimate moments, once they had gotten a little older and started to notice each other in a new way. There were so many little things that could evoke such powerful emotions. A trace of the fingers along shivering skin, across smooth lips, before another pair of lips joined them. The feeling of skin on skin as their legs intertwined. Hands roaming up and down her body with gentle caresses. Fingers laced through each other, squeezing so tightly in moments of euphoria that she couldn't feel them anymore.
And yet, despite the impression that casual observation may give, it would be a mistake to suggest to her that their relationship was entirely physical; a dangerous glint would enter her eyes if someone even implied that she didn't truly and deeply love her girlfriend. The physical contact, in its many forms, wasn't the basis of their relationship; it merely served as the means by which they expressed the feelings that they nurtured in their hearts.
More than anything, it seemed like they were linked by touch…from enemies to partners, to friends, to lovers, it had always played a vital role in their relationship. But the feelings that created that relationship went beyond a mere sense.
A/N: Surprise! A story! A brief one that I threw together in a few days, but it's well past time that I uploaded something again, especially since I've been seeing some new people following this collection every now and then. There isn't much to say about this one, except that the vagueness of whose perspective this is is intentional and not an oversight on my part.
Something else to mention: I have been working on another short story about Homura and her relationship with Madoka. It's a little bittersweet, and for that reason (and it being Homura and not Kyoko and Sayaka) I wasn't sure whether I should add it to this group or post it separately. Let me know what you think in your reviews, or by PM.
I hope you enjoy this little scribbling. I will have some more content soon.
