This was the worst date of Kyoko's life.
She didn't mind fancy outings, as long as they weren't too frequent. And classical music wasn't really her thing, but she didn't dislike it. She didn't even have a problem with putting on makeup, uncomfortable shoes and a skirt, so long as it was a special occasion. Besides, seeing Sayaka in an elegant dress (a blue one—she didn't seem to like the red one much anymore) was always a plus.
But spending their date night by going to a performance by Sayaka's old crush? That was pushing things too far.
Kyoko could hold a grudge like nobody's business, but over the past few years Sayaka had convinced her to let go of her anger towards Kyousuke and Hitomi for nearly destroying Sayaka's life. And she really had. But that didn't mean she was okay with watching Sayaka sigh and make doe eyes down at the stage while Kyousuke performed.
On any night, that would have been bad. But on what was supposed to be their date…that just hurt.
She trusted Sayaka; she wasn't suspicious about her relationship with Kyousuke, she wasn't worried about being replaced, and she gave her space to be with her old friends. But she didn't enjoy being so strongly reminded of the fact that part of Sayaka still carried a torch for the violinist.
And she couldn't even talk because they were in a concert hall. She had to sit there in silence and watch and listen, and as the night went on she felt more and more alone, despite having the love of her life sitting right next to her. She reached over and grasped Sayaka's hand, and to her relief Sayaka looked at her and smiled, but then her grip slackened and she went back to focusing entirely on the performance.
Kyoko inwardly sighed. Only a few more hours of this…
She woke up to an intoxicating scent. Kyoko looked over and found that the rest of the bed was empty. It didn't take much thought to figure out that Sayaka was making breakfast. The thought made her smile, but she didn't feel like getting up yet, so she rolled over and pressed her head against Sayaka's pillow, wishing her love was with her. Her heart still felt a little heavy from the previous night's neglect.
Even her hopes of salvaging the night after the concert ended had been dashed. Sayaka was tired, so home and straight to bed they went. She supposed it was okay…she didn't work the evening shift all the time, and Sayaka wasn't in the busiest part of the semester yet, so they would get to go out again soon.
She hugged Sayaka's pillow tighter and indulged in a little more sulking.
Time passed as she dozed lightly, waiting for Sayaka to come tell her to get up and eat breakfast with her.
Things didn't quite turn out that way.
The door opened and she heard Sayaka walk in. "Morning, Kyoko!" she called cheerily, to which Kyoko mumbled something unintelligible. Sayaka snorted. "That's fine, you don't need to get up." There was a rattle and something heavy sank into the bed by her feet.
Curious, Kyoko finally turned over to see what was going on. Sayaka laughed at the audible gasp from the redhead when she saw the small banquet that her girlfriend had brought to her. The centerpiece was a plate with a stack of okonomiyaki on it; settled next to it was a full platter of tamagoyaki, and in the corner was a steaming bowl of miso soup and a cup of green tea. Breakfast foods weren't the only option, either: there was a small plate piled with daifuku and dango to appease her sweet tooth.
She turned to Sayaka to express her delight and received her second surprise. Sayaka was standing at the side of the bed with her arms folded over the apron that she was wearing…and a quick glance down revealed that it was the only thing she was wearing. Kyoko stared for a few seconds, then met her girlfriend's eyes and quirked an eyebrow.
"I hope you aren't planning on going out like that."
Sayaka just smirked and reached out to poke Kyoko's forehead. "Today's a stay-at-home day. Aren't you going to eat?"
Eat what, exactly? Kyoko thought while looking between the tray of food and her nearly naked lover. Her stomach won out over her libido; the food would get cold, after all.
"So…not that I don't like it when you spontaneously spoil me, but what's this about?" Kyoko asked in between mouthfuls.
Sayaka climbed into bed and crawled over Kyoko's legs to reach her side, affording Kyoko a very nice view for a couple of seconds. "I just wanted to make things up to you…for last night."
Her heart skipped and she looked away from Sayaka. "What do you mean?" she asked in what she hoped was a casual tone.
The blunette sighed and reached over to take her hand. "Kyoko, you know that I know you better than that. You did a good job of acting like everything was fine, but the whole way home I could tell that you were miserable. It didn't take long to figure out what it was." She raised their hands and kissed the back of Kyoko's. "I thought about it and…well, it was kind of a jerk move to drag you to one of Kyousuke's performances on our date." Sayaka didn't voice why that would be a problem, for which Kyoko was grateful; having her jealousy and insecurities laid out like that would have made her feel worse, even if Sayaka understood.
"So, I thought I would make you something special this morning," Sayaka continued, "and then we could just stay in the rest of the day." She laid her head on Kyoko's shoulder and the redhead felt her pulse quicken. "Just you and me."
She was touched that Sayaka not only noticed her hurt feelings without her saying anything, but immediately endeavored to make her feel better. There was still so much food left, but she was finding it increasingly difficult to keep her attention from shifting to Sayaka.
Finally she had finished breakfast and sighed in contentment. Sayaka snuggled against her side and she grinned. The lingering hurt feelings from the previous night were gone. After all, she thought smugly, Sayaka wouldn't bring Kyousuke breakfast in bed while wearing virtually no clothing.
As if he'd even notice that she was naked if she did. She had to quickly stifle a laugh at that thought.
She couldn't have asked for a better morning…or a better lover.
"Look," she said suddenly, feeling an urgent need to clear something up, "I trust you, you know? I never think…I'm not suspicious of you and—"
Sayaka silenced her with a brief kiss. "I know."
They lapsed into a comfortable silence for a few minutes, Kyoko resting her head on Sayaka's chest and Sayaka gently stroking her hair. "Is it okay if we just stay here for a while?" Kyoko eventually asked. Sayaka smiled.
"The day is yours. If all you want to do is stay in bed all day, I'll stay right beside you."
"Well, that's not all I want to do," the redhead shot back with a mischievous wink as her arm slipped around Sayaka's waist. "I still have room for dessert."
They did end up staying in bed all day, some of which was actually spent resting.
A/N: What do you know, I actually did post part 2 in short order. I don't have anything else already written, though, so the next update will be...eventually?
The titles were supposed to fit together as "Everyone Messes up Now... ...and Again," but FanFic apparently doesn't allow periods in titles, so...so much for that idea.
