A/N - Alright, I have a confession to make. When I started this story, I had no idea what it was going to be about. All I had was the first chapter and pretty much nothing else. But so many people liked it that I had to continue. I'm only saying this because the story isn't ABOUT Blackbeard. He will make an appearance but the story isn't ABOUT him. I preemptively wrote that in the description to write off any concerns about continuity. If you go back and read the description, you will see it has changed. With that out of the way, please enjoy!
"Listen, I can explain," Kenway began while back at the helm with Sparrow, Gibbs, and Barbosa.
"What other secrets are ya keepin' Kenway?" Barbosa asked.
"This was simply information that I discovered on my own, am I not entitled to it?" he asked.
"Not when it mingles with our affairs."
"Hector please… let's think about this," Gibbs motioned.
"You know what? I think he wants the treasure for himself," Barbosa inferred.
"I've already told you, I have no interest in payment."
"Right… you're looking for answers. Well tell me Kenway… have you yer answers yet?"
"Well I say that's quite enough. There will be no bickering aboard my ship… unless I start it," Sparrow butted in. He then looked at the paper that Barbosa snatched from him.
"I'm gonna' keep this," he said as he walked away. Barbosa stared at Kenway for several seconds before walking away himself. When the sun fell the next day, he returned to Hellen to find her lounging in her cell.
"You're back," she started while standing up, "You didn't come back last night, I assumed they threw you overboard."
"They're not savages, it was just a… just a misunderstanding," he rationalized.
"All the same… do you honestly find it better to let them have it? That older fellow seemed very keen on ending your life."
"And you would fair better with it? If you can't use it, why take it?" he asked.
"To return it where it belongs," she claimed.
"And what makes you think I'd believe that?" he asked.
"Well why do you want it? You can't use it either," she countered.
"To destroy it."
"What?" she asked out of shock.
"You said it yourself, I can't use it. I could sell it and fetch some coin, but that could easily be turned against me."
"I don't think something like that can be destroyed."
"Then we'll let it be lost to the sea. It'll fall so far down that nobody will ever be able to find it again."
"That's your plan? Just toss it into the sea? They'll never let you near it, especially after last night."
"We'll need to wait until we reach land."
"We?" she reiterated.
"Listen, neither of us are in a profitable position, but if we worked together…"
"Now you want to work together?"
"Here's my plan."
Kenway spent a considerable amount of time explaining his plan. The plan itself seemed reasonable enough. However, the amount of trust he was putting in Hellen was shocking. Knowing they were fairly close to their destination, he put his plan into action by unlocking her cell. He grabbed a set of lockpicks and picked it open. However, he adjusted the lock so that it appeared to be in use. He then left the brig, only to be encounter Barbosa once again.
"It seems you talk to her an awful lot," he observed, "What is you two talkin' about, I wonder?"
"I'm getting answers, Hector… nothing more," Kenway replied sternly.
"You better watch yer tone," he said while stepping closer. Kenway, on the other hand, stood completely still.
"I don't have to take orders from you, you're not the captain," he reminded while leaving the brig.
As Kenway predicted, they arrived at the island in question the next day. The sun was at its highest when the island was in sight and from then to the previous night, Barbosa made sure to check Hellen's cell periodically, making sure Kenway didn't try anything. Once close enough to the island, they readied a row boat. Kenway watched as it was slowly lowered into the water.
"Are you going already?" Kenway asked Sparrow.
"Very soon mate," he answered.
"Might I ask to join you?"
"You don't have a choice," Barbosa butted in, "You're coming with us so I can keep an eye on you."
"Very well then, perhaps I can—" Kenway started before being interrupted by a cloaked figure jumping to Sparrow and pinning him to the ground, her hidden blade mere inches from his throat. Everyone drew their weapons and Kenway aimed his pistole.
"Anyone takes a step, he dies!" she shouted out. Knowing that he could die within a second, Kenway holstered his weapon and the others followed his lead. They watched as she pulled the Apple from Sparrow's pocket. She then pocketed it and dove into the water, heading for land. Several men had their guns pointed at her, but Sparrow ordered them to stand down, for fear of losing his treasure.
"Kenway, chase her!" Sparrow ordered. He took a second to look at Barbosa and smirk.
"Well, go on!" Sparrow urged on. He nodded in understanding and dove into the water, swimming in the thieving assassin's wake.
