Marty's day had been strange even before people started falling from the ceiling. It took her a moment to realise what had landed on top of Edgar, flattening him to the ground with a resounding thump.
"Was that necessary?" Mart y wheezed, staggering to her feet as Maurice and co stared at the newcomer. Marty rubbed her shoulder with a wince. Nothing felt broken, just bruised. Amber could check later, "And how did you lot get in the ceiling." Marty glanced over her shoulder as the rest of her "rescue party" landed behind her, Amber looking almost scandalised by her fall. Marty frowned, were the hell did Amber get a laptop.
"That's a right arse of a thankyou," Ace said mildly, Marty glanced back to him, raising an eyebrow at the scrutiny she was receiving.
"What-"
"How'd an idiot like this land a hit on you," Marty grinned.
"They ganged up on me, three against one is hardly fair," Marty crossed her arms glancing down at her ankle; "I reckon I could have taken them if I didn't have a bung foot." Ace's eyes narrowed, transferring onto the shell shocked Maurice.
"Who ganged up on you?" Marty tipped her head to the side as her gaze flicked between the men.
"Maybe ganged up is too strong a word-" Marty eyes widened as Maurice's face slammed into the ground beside her propelled by a flying kick from Beth. She landed hard on his back. Dropping into a crouch she dug her gun into the back of his head.
"I really want a reason to use this, so be a darling and give me a reason," Beth said sweetly.
"Nice kick," Ace chuckled stepping down off Edgars crumbled form to lift his victim up by the collar. Marty tore her eyes away from Jack who had the still unnamed Beef-cake-number-two in a headlock.
"Three down- what forty eight to go?" Marco said drily facing the rest of the cronies who were now eyeing the group wearily.
"Mother! Father!" Cake called sprinting over to the cages. Marty shook her head in disbelief.
"How long have you lot been sitting up in the rafters plotting," Marty accused glancing back to Ace who was now shaking Edgar not so gently. Ace's eyes flicked to her face before returning to Edgar.
"Not long enough obviously," Ace muttered, "Wakey, wakey you bastard." Edgar whimpered as he came around, flinching as he opened his eyes to see Ace face not far from his own.
"Careful, landing on him like that would have at least cracked a few of his ribs, he's lucky. His collar bones look intact from here. They should have snapped under your weight," Amber commented from behind Marty. Ace's hand tightened as he gave Edgar a smile that held no warmth whatsoever.
"I was being gentle," Ace purred, "Now mate, I do believe I owe you a new face," Marty frowned before jolting forward to grab Ace's arm.
"Stop. Please," Marty added as Ace gave her an indignant look, "I need to talk to him. We need him."
"Before you interrogate him you should probably know about the extraordinarily large cache of weapons from our world we found stashed in one of the manor's rooms," Amber pointed out dryly, Marty jerked her head around to stare at her.
"What?!" Amber held up her armful.
"This is all the data I could find for you to look at, I tried but the classification systems and codes you idiots use make no sense to normal humans," Amber said disdainfully, Marty eyed the laptop before turning to glare at Edgar.
"They were pulling illegal weapons through portals? Same as us?" Marty guessed.
"I think we were an accident," Amber reasoned. Edgar's eyes bulged as his gaze flicked between the girls.
"You came through my portals?" Edgar hissed.
"So they were your portals," Marty said disdainfully, "Why bring us through?" Edgar sneered drawing himself up best he could with Ace first twisted into his collar.
"A slut like you has no right to ask me questions. You stupid women have no comprehension for the brilliance of my organisation. Go back to whoring on street corners where you belong," Marty snorted.
"Back to my sex life are we- Ace no!" Marty yelled lunging for Ace's first as he slammed it into Edgars face. Edgar went sprawling on the ground as Marty slammed her palms onto Ace chest stepping between them.
"Jesus Ace! What was that for?" Marty snapped, shooting a glance over her shoulder at Edgar who had curled into a foetal position to moan about his jaw. She turned back to Ace, pushing more firmly with her palms as he made to step forward, "Since when do you feel the need to defend anyone's honour, let alone mine?" Ace frowned gazed flicking to Marty's split lip before meeting her eyes.
"Oh Ace, what a Man," Amber purred, "Remind me to thank you later." Ace blinked glancing at Amber wearily.
"Get a room you two," Marty muttered giving Ace a final push before turning back to Edgar. She kept one hand on his chest in case he randomly lunged forward again.
"Can I shoot her yet?" Beth asked hopefully. She had pulled out a second pistol and was now sitting crossed legged on Maurice's back with her first gun still pressed into his skull.
"Wait until we've used her to fix any injuries," Marco said absently, keeping an eye on both the hired thugs as well as the villagers. No one had moved since the group had fallen from the ceiling, but it was only a matter of time before someone decided to try their luck.
"If you please Edgar, why are we here," Marty asked before Amber could retort, "and skip the name calling – you're a big, bad, sexist, asshole we get the picture."
"M-my portals, they are hard to keep fixed when crossing between worlds," Edgar whimpered, "a lesser man wouldn't be able to open them. Even s-someone as great as I can lose control of one every so often."
"So you were aiming for weapons then," Marty said her expression darkening. Edgar sniffed pushing himself upright.
"That is none of your-."
"Yes, yes," Marty sighed keeping an eye on Ace, who was looking at Edgar in a way that made her uneasy, "so we will have to send them all back I suppose…- can you send things back to our world?"
"How dare you-!"
"Yes or no will do," Jack said cheerfully, there was a crack and BC2 dropped to the ground unconscious. Edgar eyed the enormous man.
"No…" Edgar said looking to the side. Marty let her hand drop from Ace's chest as she walked forward to crouch in from of the shaking man.
"You're a terrible liar," Marty said quietly.
"… Fine I can, but I won't!" Edgar snapped, flinching as Ace took a step forward. Marty shrugged.
"Send them back or destroy them, it's all the same to me."
"Dest- ABSOLUTELY NOT!"
"Oh shut up," Marty growled, getting to her feet, "So how we are here is done, let's move on to why all this uproar," she said flicking her hand at the mass of people as she glanced towards the cages which Cake was fruitlessly trying to unlock. "Hey Polo, you mind picking the cage locks before Cake starts slamming her head against the bars?" Ace followed Polo with his eyes before returning them to Edgar.
"Answer the question," Ace said cheerfully cracking his knuckles. Marty rolled her eyes, at least he had decided too help in the questioning rather than killing their source of information.
"I already know you're looking for the Yaosu Yaosu fruit what I want to know is why," Marty said with a sigh as several heads whipped around to stare at her, "I mean it's expensive, but so are a lot of fruits."
"It's not only it's price you stupid girl," Edger sneered, eyeing Ace as he gave him a look, "The yaosu yaosu fruit has a ridiculous amount of power attached to it. The person who eats it has the potential to become a major player in both the underworld and the pirate age."
"No kidding," Ace muttered earning a confused look from Edgar, "So you want to use the fruit and or its user for a power play?"
"Is someone going to explain why people are getting so hung up on fruit?" Amber asked.
"Ignore her," Marty said cheerfully, "This fruit, you lost it?"
"Oi."
Edgar flushed.
"I had been using my portals, when I accidentally lost control over one of them."
"You were trying to steal more weapons?" Marty said flatly.
"Several important objects were sucked into it, including the fruit which had been in the room at the time," Edgar spat, "I redirected the portal best I could so that the objects would re-appear on the island. We have found all the missing objects except for the fruit, which means someone took it!" Edgar finished, his voice rising to a yell.
"So you attacked the My Mother and Father, and locked the entire town in the mansion for questioning, all because you were greedy and too stupid to use your portals properly," Cake said annoyed approaching the group with her parents in tow, their newly release body guards not far behind them. Her Father, the Mayor, shook his head sadly.
"Edgar my old friend- how could you?"
"Right ok, cool, so you wanted the Yaosu Yaosu fruit back so you could either sell it, or give it to someone you could control," Marty guessed crossing her arms with a frown. Cake glanced at her surprised.
"Yaosu Yaosu… isn't that the fruit that Marty-?"Cake asked confused.
"Quiet now Cake," Marty snapped a little too late. Edgars eyes widened, turning to focus on the girl.
"You know where it is?" Edgar hissed, the look in his eyes turning hungry, "You do don't you? Where is it? Tell me! It's mine!" Marty frowned.
"Marty? Marty- excuse me Marty! Are you alright dear?" Marty turned towards the worried voice, to see its owner pushing her way through the crowd.
"Donna, guys let her through," Marty said walking towards her, "I'm fine, a few bruises is all."
"So that's Donna," Beth said interestedly, "Why's she got your hat on?"
"It's her hat," Marty said with a grin, catching movement in the corner of her eye she glanced back to see Edgar had staggered to his feet and was watching Marty. Ace frowned taking a step forward just as he opened his mouth.
"WHOEVER BRINGS THE PURPLE HAIRED SLUT TO ME ALIVE WILL BECOME MY EQUAL FINANCIAL PARTNER, AND EVERYONE WHO KILLS ONE OF HER FRIENDS WILL GET THEIR WAGE TRIPLED!" Edgar screamed, Marty's eyes widened as she swung around to see every hired thug in the room draw their weapon. She dove into Donna knocking her out of the way as the first shot was fired. The crowd began to panic as people began to scream, there was a rush to get out of the line of fire.
Ace swore, smashing his first into Edgars face before whipping round to gaze in the direction Marty had been.
"Purple!"
"Blimey," Beth slammed the hilt of her gun into Maurice's neck, before leaping off his back, landing beside Marco with both her guns raised and firing. Someone fell every time she pulled the trigger
"Bring it on Assholes!" Cake yelled wrenching her sword from her sheath sprinting forwards with Polo close on her heels. Beth cackled, moving one pistol to cover her friend's forward charge.
"Get 'em Cake!"
"My name!" Cake shrieked pulling her blade out of one man in a swift movement, "IS CHARLENE" she lunged forward, engaging several men at once as Polo covered her back. Beth was impressed, he was rather good with his hands.
"You'll be okay?" Marco shouted over the racket as he began to turn blue around the edges. Beth grinned savagely.
"I have eight more of these bad boys tucked away on top of bullet refills," Beth chuckled, "Don't bother with the precious talk, I can take care of myself." Marco froze peeking sideways at her, his face reddening slightly.
"This is so not the time for this," He muttered leaping into the air as Beth laughed.
"A later date then," Beth called throwing herself off to the side as bullets flashed past.
Amber sighed, studying the gun in her hands from her position behind one of the halls massive pillars. Fighting was such a bore. She leant back against the pillar, peering around its edge to see that idiot green haired wrench reload one of her guns one handed. It was a rather impressive display – not that Amber would ever tell the idiot that. Fighting was such a ridiculous exercise after all.
Ah well, Amber thought tucking the laptop and hard drive against the wall she put the gun on the floor next to her within easy reach. She began going through her pockets, checking the bandages and medicine she had swiped from Cabbage Patches first aid kit. Hopefully there would be enough. Amber slipped a roll of bandages back into her pocket, glancing up in time to see one of those awful thugs come level with the pillar.
Amber shot him clean through the shoulder just as he saw her. Amber sighed again, glancing annoyed at the gun. Now she was going to have to thank Marty for teaching her how to shoot a gun.
On the other hand, she could just blame the injured man on the Green idiot.
"Jack!" Jack hurled the cage forward into the cluster of men before turning to see Ace blast several people out of his path, "Did you see were Purple went?"
"No, I haven't seen any of her usual natural disasters either," Jack said hefting another cage onto his shoulders. Ace grimaced slamming his boot into a charging man's face.
"She wouldn't use her powers, not when Edgars already after her and she's in an enclosed space with all these people," Ace growled, Jack frowned worriedly.
"She's injured Ace, in several ways and she has no weapons."
"I'm aware," Ace said tightly, "the only thing she has is that stupid knife Beth gave her, which she frigging useless with," Ace set a cluster of men's clothes alight, being careful to avoid the villagers that were running around.
Why the hell did I take a knife over a gun, wondered Marty. She was holding the blade straight out in from of her as the men advance carefully. Marty frowned moving slightly to the left so she was between the men and Donna once again
"Come on pretty, we don't want to hurt you," One man cooed, it did not suit the scars crisscrossing his face. Mart stuck her tongue out taking a step back so that she bumped into Donna.
"When I say go, you need to run while I distract them," Marty hissed under her breath, never moving her eyes from the half circle of men. Donna began to make a noise of protest, "I mean it Donna, they want to kill you, but they need me alive. I will be fine so long as you get somewhere safe…ok?"
Marty waited before she felt Donna nod to turn her full attention forward.
"We will keep you safe from Edgar, just come with us," Another man insisted, grinning through a mop of greasy hair. Marty shuddered, before lunging forward on her good foot.
"GO," Marty whipped the dagger forward. Predictably the men got out of the way. Marty tucked her chin down tumbling forward in a roll. She shot back to her feet spinning around in time to see the greasy hair man shoot her a grin before he turned and shot Donna in the back.
There was a strange moment as the whole hall seems to go completely silent as the blood pounded in Marty ears. She watched Donna hit the ground without a noise and the men laugh horribly as they turned towards her grinning.
Marty screamed.
