"She's a absolutely useless idiot but she should be fine," Amber said prodding Marty in the nose as she stood up glancing around, "That being said we still need to get Donna to the town doctor for proper treatment…. Please tell me this hole has a doctor?"
"How did she do this much damage in the space of what? Five? Ten minutes?" Beth said glancing up at the sky. Not only had Marty ripped off the ceiling she had torn her way through two other levels to tear off the roof. The wall that had been facing the gardens was now gone (Beth was pretty sure it was burning away atop the maze). The other walls were still upright, if you could call it that. Massive holes made unorthodox windows into the surrounding rooms that were still burning round the edges. The floor looked like a glass widow that had been hit with a hammer, with new hills and crevices dotting the room.
Many of the thugs were still frozen to the floor.
Groups of people had wandered back once the dust had cleared, only to be roped into putting out fires by Cake.
"So what now?" Amber asked making a beeline for the pillar she was sure she left the laptop. Beth pulled her eyes away from one of the men who had fallen through one of the walls by accident, setting the adjoining room on fire.
"What now?"
"Well you've destroyed Cakes house and found what brought Marty and I through, what else do you lot have left to do?" Amber asked pushing aside a frozen beam of wood to peer underneath it, "Or can we blow the weapons room and get Portal Pete to send us home?" Amber dug through a pile of splinters before spotting the rather battered laptop. Beth frowned crossing her arms.
"Who says Marty wants to go home?" Beth asked watching annoyed as Amber opened the strange rectangle and started clicking away. Amber flicked her a glare before returning to the keyboard.
"That doesn't answer my question you tramp," Amber muttered, closing the laptop, seemly satisfied it was still working.
"I'm the tramp? "
"I would like for Pop's to get here before we destroy anything else," Marco said with a sigh, passing Edgar into Jack's care to crouch by Marty. Tipping her head to the side gently, he studied the cuts on Marty cheek with a worried look, "Are these gonna scar?"
"Of course not, her face would be a mess if she scarred that easy," Amber said scornfully, standing up, "If I can clean them properly within a few hours they will be gone within a couple of months." Amber wandered over to Ace adjusting her armload, "Who's Pops?"
"Our Captain," Ace said eyeing the computer, "He should be here in an hour or so." Amber glanced between them.
"Why isn't he here now? I thought you were pirates, shouldn't you have been on the same boat?" Amber asked confused. Ace shared a glance with Marco, while Beth shrugged.
"Marty kind of well…" Beth trailed off.
"She high-Jacked a Sea king loaded us all on and rode it here to destroy my bloody house," Cake said in announcement of her presence stopping towards them. She looked lightly terrifying with chunks burnt out of her skirt, her hair pulled back in a tight pony tail and blood drying on her still drawn sword. Beth examined her, pride crossing her face, "Speaking of which, when is she waking up." Cake demanded waving her bloody sword in Marty's direction. Amber rolled her eyes.
"You tell me, and while you're at it explain why she can now destroy buildings with her mind?," Amber snapped, "and what the heck is a Sea King?"
"It's type of sea monster classified by their immense size and tendency to eat ships," Marco said calmly getting to his feet.
"And the bitch ate my devil fruit," Edgar snapped twisting in Jack grip which only tighten at his words, "She doesn't own that power she-"
"Yes, thank you," Jack said cheerfully wrapping a large fist around Edgar neck, cutting off his air for a few seconds. Amber shook her head.
"This whole world is mad," Amber said in wonder, "Absolutely mental."
"You don't have Sea monsters and Devil fruit were you come from?" Ace asked curiously, Amber smiled at him sweetly.
"Certainly not, my world is sane thank heavens," Amber flipped her hair, "You should come visit sometimes."
"Yeah completely sane with all the world wars, poverty, and Robin Thicke," Marty muttered without opening her eyes. Marco leant forwards to peering down at her.
"You're awake then?" He asked smiling as Marty opened her eyes tiredly. Marty grimaced as she began struggling to push herself into a sitting position.
"Who could sleep in this racket?" Marty asked grinning wryly before glancing at Donna, "Is she-"
"Oh no you don't," Amber snapped dumping the Laptop and cords in Aces arm before stalking over to push Marty back down, "She'll be fine, you're not moving till I say you can."
"Amber I'm fine, I'm just tired."
"You just levelled a mansion, with your brain apparently, which I'm certain you couldn't do before," Amber growled checking her eyes and pulse, "Where's the pain?"
"There's no-"
"Don't talk unless you're answering my questions," Amber ordered picking up Marty's arm to move the joints carefully, "Well? While your two brain cells are still functioning please, and don't miss anything out. You know I'll know." Marty sighed annoyed.
"My ankles still sore, my back and right side hurt slightly-"
"That will be the muscle damage I can feel," Amber said frowning, her fingers gentle in contrast to her expression, she hoped it wouldn't be deep enough to be permanent. Amber rolled Marty onto her side, much to Marty's obvious displeasure, to feel the muscle around her spine, "Do you know what caused it?"
"No."
"Fine, continue," Amber said allowing her to roll onto her back again, knowing Marty would be in pain every time she stood, sat up or walked for the next week at least. Lifting anything heavier than a few kilos would cause her agony. She had probably been hit by one of the poles or kitchen furniture that had been whizzing around. Which was completely Marty's fault to begin with, Amber reason, she should be thankful her bones hadn't snapped.
"I don't know, my face stings a little and I'm starving, what do you want Amber?" Marty grumbled watching as Amber checked her other arm. Amber's frown deepened as she noticed something, she swore grabbing the knife she had left beside Donna to cut first the bottom of Marty's singlet away, then carfully cut a slit in the side of Marty shorts.
"Huh, cool," Marty said lifting her head slightly to study the angry looking purple green bruise forming there before Amber pushed her head back down, "But did you really need to cut my clothes for that? I liked those pants."
"They were ugly and you deserve it. How did you manage to get this bruise to stretch from your ribs to your thigh?" Amber snapped looking as though she was ready to stick her knife in Marty forehead. Marty lifted her hands slightly before thumping them back to the floor.
"I don't know, it's blurry. Can I eat now?" Amber shook her head in disgust, getting to her feet.
"No, you can't," Amber stomped over to Ace taking the computer of him with a smile, "Someone help the idiot up would they? She has a weapons list to sort through, you," Amber said waving her hand at Polo who had just appeared behind Cake, "I'm not totally sure what purpose you serve. It's going to cause Marty quite a bit of pain to be in a sitting position so it's your job to make sure she stays upright till she's finished," Amber ordered dropping the laptop and cord bundle onto Marty's lap as Polo scurried over, looking confused.
"You can't just order him around," Cake objected following Polo to peer over his shoulder as Marty hauled herself upright. Chucking an amused glance at Amber, Marty opened the laptop, her arms moving a little stiffly.
"What, you mean like you do," Amber said scornfully walking back to stand next to Ace folding her arms.
"Is everything listed on here," Marty said as the screen flickered to life. Amber glanced towards Edgar.
"Well? I pulled all the information from your main computers," Amber prompted. Edgar glared at her silently before flinching as Jack lowered his face till his mouth was besides Edgar's ear.
"Answer her please," Jack said pleasantly. Edgar went red.
"Yes," He said through his teeth.
"Mmm, Ta," Marty acknowledged as her fingers began dancing across the keyboard. Cake and Polo glanced at each other before leaning in for a better look.
"What are you doing?" Beth asked wandering over curious. Amber grabbed Ace's arm as he went to step forward. She glanced at him before taking a few steps backwards away from the group, pulling him after her.
"Weapons are listed and coded slightly differently unique to each country," Marty said absently, frowning slightly, "Meaning I can find where they are from, and from there it's easier to read the codes in order of– huh I didn't know that country made missiles. Oh that's naughty."
"What?" Ace demanded as Amber stopped dragging him backwards, Amber focused her eyes on the group checking no one had noticed them move away.
"I heard," Amber said quietly.
"Heard what?" Ace asked confused.
"Keep your voice down, I heard your conversation during that storm," Amber hissed. Ace blinked taken aback, "Don't ask me why, but I could hear everything clearly inside my bubble of calm."
"Are you making her do that crap while she's injured just to talk to me in private?" Ace asked glancing back towards Marty whose eyes where still glued to the screen. Amber didn't even take her eyes off the group.
"Yes."
"Why," Ace snapped, crossing his arms.
"Cause you have questions that I can assure you Marty sure as hell doesn't want to answer," Amber said calmly, Ace blinked taken aback.
"She… Why, wouldn't it help," Ambers eyes flicked to Aces for only a second.
"It might help her to tell you willingly, but trust me, poking around with questions would just cause a mess," Amber said quietly. Ace frowned, "You have questions, so ask them." Ace drew back, before frowning and turning to watch Marty type.
"They would want me to let it stop,'" Ace recited quietly, "Whose they."
"That would be the assholes who she calls her parents," Amber sighed dropping her hands to her hips, "They don't really deserve the title though."
"They said that to her?"
"Yup, among other things."
"Why?"
"Do you want events or just an overview of their personality," Ace glanced at her.
"Events?"
"You know her Parents are military diplomats right?"
"…Right."
"They spend all their time overseas working towards the 'greater good'. They're well renowned for having a large impact on the world's movement towards world peace."
"World what now? Is that even possible?"
"It's a thing where we're from. They put on this front of loving parents the whole time but it's a load of bull crap. Marty's Mother got pregnant by accident. Because of their positions she couldn't afford to have an abortion because of the bad publicity it would bring them if it got out to the press. They of course made sure to let Marty know how much she wasn't wanted on a regular basis," Amber shook her head disgustedly,
"And then, five, maybe six years ago now, Marty was kidnaped. I can't remember whether it was terrorist or insurgents but they wanted money and information surrounding military grade weapons from her parents. I never really got the whole story, but I do know that Marty parents refused to pay the ransom." Ace fixed his gaze on Marty, slightly unnerved by the sudden urge to begin destroying inanimate objects.
"… tell me I just heard you wrong."
"There was massive shitstorm in the press on whether they were bad parents or just loyal to their country that eventually ended when the military found, and caught the group and rescued Marty. She had a broken arm, was slightly dehydrated, and sleep deprived, but was otherwise fine.
She was made to smile for the cameras and thank her parents for never giving up on her, before going home for the first time in a month to be screamed at by her parents for the trouble she caused. The basically blamed all the bad publicity they had gotten on her,"
Amber shrugged, picking up the ends of her hair to study them, "She doesn't really talk about it, but she spent the next couple of years trying to impress her parent by learning everything there was to know about their work in weaponry and technology. She gave up about a year ago I think. Or at least that was the last time I heard of her contacting them about it."
"Why, how does she act so cheerful all the time," Ace said furiously, Amber raised an eyebrow.
"I would say it's a coping mechanism she's developed, but I can't be sure. She's been that way for as long as I've known her," Amber said shrugging, "She takes care of herself, she always has."
"Amber?" Ace glanced over to see Marty spot the two of them and frown confused, "What…?"
"Problem?" Amber asked raising her voice so Marty could hear her. Marty tipped her head to the side, Polo was now sitting behind her, physically keeping her upright.
"No actually. S'long as this is everything they have, we can toss in a grenade and let the problem fix it self," Marty said returning her eyes to the screen. "There's only one type of bio-weapon that I can see but I should be able to disarm it so it's harmless when we blow everything up."
"No nukes?" Amber said curiously, Marty looked at her offended.
"Don't you ever listen when I talk? The equipment needed to store nuclear weapons safely as well as the technology needed to launch it would take up a massive amount of space as well as several technicians who know what they are doing so you don't set it off incorrectly."
"So no nukes," Amber asked impatiently. Marty closed her eyes rubbing her forehead as though gathering her patience.
"No Amber, no nukes," Marty said tiredly.
"So you are actually intelligent," Cake said impressed, Marty grinned at her.
"Did you ever doubt it?"
"Are you kidding me, I doubted whether you even possessed a brain at frequent intervals," Cake said glancing pointedly at a hole in the wall next to them.
"Any more questions," Amber muttered under her breath startling Ace.
"…No, I'll wait for her to tell me anything else there is to hear," Ace decided, "She doesn't know my past, I don't have a right to know hers." Amber snorted thinking about the Marty comment on this whole mad world being an Asian TV show.
"I wouldn't bet on it," Amber muttered, Ace frowned.
"Pardon?" Amber smiled at him hooking her arm through his.
"I wouldn't bet your backstory could be boring, you will have to tell me all about it," Amber said winking at him.
"What are you two even doing over there," Beth said helping Marco and Polo lift Donna on the board they had ripped from what was let of the wall.
"Darling you are much too young for me to explain such a thing to you," Amber sain scornfully. Marty snorted as Cake pulled her to her feet, one arm swung around her shoulders.
"She's older than you Amber."
"Then I mean it in terms of maturity."
"Her maturity level is gonna shoot you."
"Shooting me is on the bottom of the list of things she needs to get done right now," Beth pulled the laptop from Marty's grip, dragging her spare arm over her shoulders.
"It's still on the list though," Beth assured her. The three girls followed Marco and Polo towards the ballrooms missing wall leaving Ace and Jack to bring up the rear with their respective partners.
"Sorry for the trouble you two," Marty wheezed as her friends half carried, half dragged her towards the exit. Cake sniffed.
"I should think so, next time lead everyone outside before throwing a temper tantrum," Cake said glancing sadly at a fridge they ambled past that had been broken in half. Beth laughed.
"Sure, outside, where she isn't contained to an enclosed space. Where her storms aren't constricted and have free range to grow and spread over a larger area. That's a brilliant idea," Beth said sarcastically earning a glare from Cake and a laugh from Marty that broke off into a groan.
"Don't make me laugh, my stomach doesn't like it," Marty whined, lifting her feet up as they trudged over an extremely uneven section of flooring. Cakes glare melted into a smile as she glanced sideways at her two strange friends. Beth white top was once again a dirty brown and her short hair was sticking straight up in greasy spikes. Marty clothes were a hopeless case. Holes peppered her top almost indecently and her pants were tied haphazardly together were Amber had cut them. Marty had also managed to lose one of her shoes revealing a giant hole in the side of her sock.
"Gods we're such a mess," Cake sighed eyeing her own clothes with a wince. Marty grinned.
"I think you look terrifyingly awesome," Marty said cheerfully, "Is there any particular reason you still got your sword out?" Cake shrugged
"I lost the sheath," She admitted, Beth laughed.
"How'd you lose your sheath? It was tied to your waist."
"Lost it, threw it at some guys face, same difference," Cake said shrugging again. Marty smiled as they reached the edge of the ball room to look out into the garden bathed in the afternoon sun and filled still with the Majority of the town. Many of whom were assisting in putting out the fires in what was left of the Maze. Marco and Polo, moving quite a bit faster than them, had already found a doctor for Donna. The girls could just make out the portly doctor's orders for her to be moved to his house for surgery.
"So what now?" Beth asked echoing Ambers words.
"Food," Marty suggested hopefully, as Marco turned and, catching sight of them, beckon for them to follow, "Food would be good, and when Whitebeard pirates get here we can move all the weapons from Cakes house to somewhere it will be safe to detonate them."
"What, so now you care about the state of my house," Cake grumbled as they started across the grass towards Marco. Marty winced, grinning.
"Stick with Whitebeard, Cake. You won't need a house then," Beth said cheerfully, "And can live happily ever after."
"Happily ever after on a pirate ship," Marty mused glancing over her shoulder to see Jack looking amused by whatever Ace was saying. Amber caught her watching and raised an eyebrow, before smiling slightly glancing off to the side.
"What a ridiculous notion," Cake said smiling slightly, "and call me Charlene."
