"Hurry up, if we're fast enough he doesn't get us, at least not today." Chris urged Jamie when the lecture was finally over.

The boys darted up the stairs and out of the auditorium before Steve had even put his books into his bagpack.

"College seriously isn't fun." Jack concluded as he walked beside them through the hallway.

"Told you so." Jamie grunted and glanced around when he heard heavy footsteps behind them.

"Oh no…"

Jack and Chris turned their heads and saw Steve stomping in their direction. The expression on his face was a clear indication of his current mood being not that positive.

"Hey, losers!" the black-haired teenager shouted out when he had reached them half-way.

"Hey, Steve." Jamie groaned less than enthusiastic.

He just wanted to get over with it.

"You have quite the brass neck, Bennett!"

"Why me?"

"Don't fool around, we both know Ghosty-Raynders here doesn't have the balls to defend himself. I don't know how you did it but I swear you're gonna pay for it!"

"Pay for what?" the brunette boy asked innocently.

"The snowball!"

"Snowball?"

"The one that hit me in the face!" the taller student yelled and pointed at himself.

"It's October, there isn't any snow around." Jamie explained calmly, as if he was talking to a toddler.

"I know! That's why I said I don't know how you did it!"

"You know that you don't know. That's a good start." the young Bennett blurted out before he could stop himself.

Damnit, he was only making it worse. At least Jack seemed to be amused by the conversation as he silently cheered for Team Jamie. A small group of people had gathered around them, most of them appearing to be friends of Steve.

"Why you little-" he began and raised his fist.

Another boy with red hair and freckles held him back by placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Let me go, Tommy!"

"Easy there, you know you'll get in trouble for this."

"Yeah, he's right, remember last time you hit someone? The dean didn't like that." the blonde girl from earlier reminded him and scornfully mustered Jamie and Chris.

"Besides that, those two freaks aren't worth it."

Jack shook his head at the bitchy girl who literally stared right through him. Being nice to each other really seemed uncommon for many people nowadays.

"Alright, you're lucky this time. But I swear I'm gonna get back at you!" Steve threatened and then added with an evil smirk.

"Oh, and Raynders? Greet your Mom from me!"

As if a switch had been flipped the up to now silent boy lunged forward. He would have directly jumped at Steve if Jamie hadn't stopped him.

"Don't you dare to talk about my Mom!" he screeched in anger.

His deceased mother was his vulnerable spot and unfortunately the tall bully knew that all too well. Jack clenched his fists. How low could a human get to use the death of a family member against someone?

"Why so upset? I thought you're talking to her with that oujie board?"

"Ouija."

"Who cares. That fake spirit board game."

"It's not fake and it's not a board game! And spirits DO exist!" Chris shouted offended.

"Yeaaaah, right." Steve said and darted a meaningful glance at his friends while making a circling motion with his finger near his temple.

Before Chris had the chance to continue confirming his reputation as ghost-obsessed freak, Jamie took him by the arm and dragged him away from the laughing students.

"Okay, enough for today."

The two boys had disappeared around the corner while Jack stayed behind and observed the arrogant black-haired teen who was still mocking poor Chris by imitating him. What a pitiful waste of DNA. Before the winter spirit followed his friends he snickered devilishly as Steve slipped on a very thin and mysteriously appearing patch of ice in the middle of his performance. With a thud he landed on his butt and looked around dumbfoundedly while rubbing his hurting backside. This time the 'losers' weren't around to blame.

"Sorry about that, I didn't want to cause any trouble. Just couldn't resist." Jack apologized after he had joined Jamie and Chris in their dorm.

"Nevermind…he would have found a reason to harass us anyway." Chris mumbled defeatedly.

He way lying on his bed, emotionally exhausted and upset about people thinking he was crazy. Only a few weeks of college had passed, but Jack assumed the blonde boy's life hadn't been all that easy before either. It wouldn't get better the next months and years, so much was certain.

"Hhm…" the young immortal hummed as he tapped his fingers against his staff and stared out of the window.

"Jack?" Jamie shot a suspicious look at his best friend., knowing very well that something was on his mind.

"There has to be something we can do."

"For what?" Chris asked curiously.

"Something to convince them you're telling the truth, to get rid of your bad reputation and to maybe get some revenge."

"That's a lot to achieve at once." Jamie remarked and Chris nodded.

"Yeah, that's why I'm still pondering."

"Well, good luck with that." the brunette boy sighed as he pulled out his books and notepads.

Deep down he hoped Jack would find a solution, it wouldn't be the first time the Guardian of Fun saved the day. But college life was hard and he doubted that a spirit had any idea how complicated social life amongst teenagers was. While the two students began working on their assignments, the winter spirit leisurely wandered through the room, cerulean eyes scanning his surroundings for a potential inspiration to fix the problem. Gradually he shuffled around their place and stopped in front of the shelf with the paranormal collection. Chris and Jamie, both focused on their chores, flinched as Jack's cheery voice rang through the room.

"Hah! I got it!" he shouted out loud and held the Ouija board up in the air.

"Uhm, what?" Jamie tilted his head in confusion.

"This is gonna help us proving those doubters that spirits do exist!"

"But I've tried it so often and it only worked once and even then I wasn't sure if it was me moving the planchette or a real ghost." Chris explained a little disheartened.

Jack's grin however didn't fade the slightest. On the contrary, it grew even wider.

"Back then you didn't have me around."

Steve Knightley groaned in annoyance when he felt a tap on his arm.

"What?" he grumbled as he put his headphones off.

He hated it when someone disturbed him while he was listening to his favorite music. Especially during that part with the epic guitar solo. Tommy, who was his roommate and one of his closest friends, pointed at the floor right in front of the door, where a sheet of paper was lying.

"Someone just slipped that through." the redhead explained.

"When?"

Tommy shrugged.

"I noticed it a few moments ago. Didn't pay attention because I was reading a book."

Steve stood up and grabbed the note, reading it out loud.

"Dear doubters,

if you are brave enough for the ultimate Ouija board experience, come to the library at midnight.

If you don't believe in spirits you have nothing to lose.

It is about time to find out who is wrong and who is right.

Chris & Jamie"

Steve's chuckle increased with every word and by the end of it he bursted out in laughter. Even though he wasn't showing such a dramatic reaction, Tommy didn't find it any less amusing and merely rolled his eyes.

"Gheez, those guys really don't know when to stop, huh?" he said and took the note out of his roommates' hand to take a look at it himself.

"Nope, seems like they haven't gotten enough humiliation for today. And who are we to deny them that wish?" Steve spoke viciously.

"Should be fun." Tommy agreed.

Chelsea, Steve's blonde girlfriend, saw something moving out of the corner of her eye.

"Hey, what's wrong?" her roommate, a brunette girl called Tamara, asked when she saw her friend hurrying to the other end of the dorm and picking something up from the floor.

After she had read it Chelsea opened the door and quickly looked from the left to the right.

"Chel? Who are you looking for?" Tamara inquired curiously.

"I don't know…whoever slipped this in." she said and showed the note to her friend.

"Didn't you see anyone in the hallway?" Tam wanted to know.

"No, I didn't hear anything either." the blonde girl mentioned, wondering how that could be.

Usually each step echoed through the large corridors, especially when they were empty. She had a very light sleep and was quite sensitive to any noise so it immediately struck her as strange.

"Pfff, 'the ultimate Ouija board experience'? That's the freakiest stuff in the long and sad history of freaky stuff." the brunette student commented when she had finished the short letter.

"I know, right? Let's ask Steve and Tommy what they think about it."

"Can I tell Louis and Beth? Oh please!" Tamara begged.

"Sure, why not. Two more witnesses who can prove that all those ghost-stories are crap."

Later that night, 11:55pm.

The group of teenagers arrived at the library and Steve was the first to peek inside. In the middle of the dark room stood a large wooden table that had been worn down by generations of students and clearly seen better times. Six chairs, in equally bad shape, were put around it. Surrounded by three candles lay the Ouija board.

No one was impressed. It wasn't creepy or mysterious but looked more like what some pre-teens were doing to overcome the boredom during a sleepover. Chelsea was the first to utter her remark about the sight in front of them.

"Lame."

"Yeah, I seriously expected more from those freaks." snorted Steve.

At that exact moment a cold breeze blew past them. All eyes darted towards the windows. They were closed, the wind couldn't have come from there.

"Ah, I see you're punctual!"

The sudden voice caught them off-guard and everyone turned around, startled but refusing to let that show too much. In the door of the library stood Jamie and Chris, both grinning secure of their victory, Jamie a little more than his friend. This was going to be hilarious.

"And I see you're pathetic as usual." Steve chuckled.

"You can insult us as much as you want, but if we prove you that spirits do exist, then you have to apologize to us, mainly to Chris…later…in front of everyone." the young Bennett spoke with a firm voice.

"As if you're in the position to make demands."

"Awww, what, are you afraid of losing? Already sensing the ghosts and refusing to agree because of that?" Jamie taunted him.

Chris was secretly enjoying the show but at the same time hoping his friend wouldn't go too far when it came to provoking their enemy.

"Oh, Bennett, you'll both regret this night. Tomorrow we will tell everyone what happened here. Exactly nothing at all. But okay, start your little show so we can go to bed." Steve said with the same self-confidence.

Earlier that night he had promised Tommy and Chelsea to not physically attack those freaks, even if they teased him. They were right, he did have enough trouble with the dean already. Maybe he really shouldn't have punched that other student in the face, but the moron had flirted with his girlfriend, he couldn't simply tolerate such behavior.

"So, do we have a deal?" Jamie urged.

An exagerrated and annoyed sigh reached his ears.

"Well, if you insist. Yeah, okay. Prove me I'm wrong and I'll apologize."

"Great! So, please take your seats. Chris, let's take the ones over there, since we are two people more than expected. But the more the merrier, right?"

When everyone had sat down around the table Chris started explaining Ouija. It was a flat wooden board with several writings on it. The letters of the alphabet in the middle, the numbers 0–9 and the word "goodbye" under it, "yes" in the left and "no" in the right top corner.

"Actually it's quite simple. We all put one finger on this planchette and wait for present spirits to guide it over the board to form messages." the blonde boy said as he pointed at a small heart-shaped piece of wood.

"The excitement is killing me…" mumbled Chelsea, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Alright, then let's begin!" Jamie exclaimed cheerfully.

In the background Jack cracked his knuckles.
