An Injured Chao

Chapter 5

Sonic didn't know how long he'd been there in the tree above his pink friend's home, after the intruder left earlier, he'd settled himself in the tree's branches, in Amy's garden and he'd soon fell asleep. The sound of keys caught his ears and his eyes groggily opened.

"That intruder must be back," he whispered as he got onto his feet crouching a little, he peered through the branches, but couldn't see the person at the door. He noticed the edge of the porch and he decided to leap onto it and sneak up on the intruder. With a thud he landed on the edge, he still wasn't fully awake.

He frowned slightly when he heard a frightened gasp which sounded oddly familiar, he didn't have time to react as something hard charged at his chest. Letting out a yelp he fell backwards onto the grass onto his back.

"Sonic…..?!" Came a familiar voice.

Then the sound of a chao which was the thing now attacking him, with small punches which was barely making a mark on him reached his ears. Sonic finally composed himself with a shake of his head and rubbing his eyes.

He peered down at the chao who was still attacking him his eyes went wide, "hey, hey, there's no need to attack me little guy!" He pleaded with a smile at how cute the chao was.

"Chao, chao chao, chao!" The chao was furious as he looked up at the hedgehog with crossed eyes he folded his arms.

"Echo…Please calm down, it's okay there's no need to attack Sonic, he's my friend," Amy said softly with wide eyes as she reached down for the chao and picked him up off the blue hero. She wasn't expecting the hedgehog to be here at all.

Sonic sighed in relief as he swiftly jumped up and back onto the porch, "thanks Ames." He said as he leaned against the wall as she went back to opening the door with her keys.

"Sorry bout that Sonic, and your welcome. So, what brings you here?" Amy question as she finally got the door opened.

Sonic was staring at the chao, he'd never seen it before, it looked angry at him he chuckled when it stuck its tougne out at him. "when did you get a chao Amy?" He asked curiously, as Amy motioned for the hedgehog to come inside and he followed suite.

"Oh, I didn't actually get him. I found him on my way home a few weeks ago, the poor chao was badly hurt and I helped him get better." Amy explained as she went to sit down on her couch, her legs were killing her from the long walk she just had back from the chao garden.

Sonic also sat down but away from the chao who was now growling at him, he rubbed his head and chuckled slightly "don't think he likes me very much."

Amy sighed with a small smile "well, you did kind of surprise him, and he doesn't really like strangers. But don't worry he'll get used to you." She said looking to the chao who was perched on the arm of her chair and she pet his head.

Echo huffed "chao.."

Amy shook her head and remembered that Sonic hadn't answered her questioned earlier, "uh..so Sonic why are you here?" She asked again.

Sonic rubbed his nervously a blush crossed over his cheeks briefly, "uh…well I was on my way to see you, since I haven't seen you in ages. But, when I arrived I saw someone trying to break in to your house." Sonic explained with a slight growl escaping his mouth.

Amy eyes widened in shock as she leaped off the chair, "What…?!" She shook her head in disbelief, "did….did they get in?!"

Sonic shook his head, "no they left as soon as I got near, but I did hear'em say they were going to come back at night, when the two of you are in. That's why I'm still here to try and stop him."

Amy blinked her eyes wide "what did they look like?"

Sonic frowned as he thought back to before he fell asleep, "all I saw was that he was a red hedgehog."

Amy sighed with a frown "what could they possibly want to steal from me?"

Sonic stood from the couch with a determined look on his face, "whatever it is I won't let'em get it, don't you worry Ames. I'm going to stay here until we catch him."

Now the pink hedgehog was surprised as butterflies fluttered through her stomach she had to calm herself so as not reach out and hug the blue hedgehog, "oh, Sonic are you sure? I…I mean I could probably take them out with my hammer." She nervously said, while she wanted him to stay, she didn't want to make him feel that he had to, she could really take care of herself.

Sonic shook his head furiously and gave her a wink and his signature thumbs up, "no sweat Ames, that's what hero's do after all and beside, we don't know how dangerous this guy could be, I don't want you alone if he comes back," Sonic said with a growl clenching his fist.

Amy smiled widely with a blush creeping up on her face, she was thrilled at having her hero stay over and because he wanted to, not because she'd asked him, and he didn't want to. "I really appreciate this Sonic, let me thank you by making you dinner tonight, and your breakfast tomorrow." Amy said jumping up and heading to her kitchen.

Sonic shrugged since his belly rumbled a little "guess a little food would do, I am pretty hungry." He said with a chuckle at his belly and following the rosy hedgehog through the door. Echo watched him carefully as he sat down at her kitchen table.

…..

After dinner which consisted of Amy's freshly made chilli dogs, which he enjoyed so much. It was now rather late, but Amy had tried to stay up with Sonic, but soon he told her to get some rest, so she and Echo headed to bed, and he stood guard in the living room.

He sat on her couch, and every now and again when he got up to check the windows. "Come on, show. I'll teach ya, to try and steal from one of my friends." Sonic mumbled angrily as he gazed out the window though he wasn't quite sure if he liked Amy as a friend anymore, he thought he might like her as something more, but he hadn't his feelings out yet.

He sighed with a shake of his head when suddenly the smash of glass a scream from upstairs caught his attention. "Amy!" He yelled and raced up to her room.
