Good night! :) I'm sorry about the delay, but I was out of town lat weekend and that means I had no time to write at all. I hope this update makes up for it. :D I didn't have time to proofread, so it may have a few misteakes. :( Thank you for all your support, guys! Every review makes me grin and I appreciate every one of them. ;) I hope you enjoy this one and have a nice week you all! ;)
liekedk99: Hahaha. I really like your idea about Alison being part of the story. I will give it a thought. Thanks for your contribution. ;)
Tns729: Thanks! ;)
Herhers: Thank you! I try to make the story a little bit fluffy, but not too much. xD I'm glad you enjoyed the interaction between the two couples, because Haleb is my second favorite couple of the show. :D I love the idea, but I barely have time for this story, so adding another one will literally make me a vampire due to the lack of sleep. It's not the first time I consider writing a Haleb fanfic, but I always end up writing about Paily. :D
Guest: Paige is just being so sweet that it hurts. :D
MJ: I'm quite a joker on my real life, so I guess that side of me reflects on the story. I can always use Hanna's personality to get there, that's why I love her character so much. :) I had never had that problem about ordering alcohol when I'm at a bar, I guess I've always looked older than I really am. Besides, the legal drinking age here is 18. :D By the way, I never understood that you can drive being 16 years old but can't drink until 21. I guess I see it from the European perspective, where you are considered an adult for everything (vote, drink, drive). :D Have a good week you too. ;)
jofi: Thank you so much! I'm so happy you're enjoying this so much. I really appreciate it. Enjoy!
CaliGrlFoLife: I'm sorry I didn't update on Sunday. :( Anyway, thank you for your nice words. ;)
Enjoy the chapter, guys!
IT'S NEVER TOO LATE
: Chapter 20 – Another Point of View:
I look at the walls. This waiting room brings some many memories. It's insane I've been coming here for the last two years. At first it was a torture. I had so many things in mind that coming here was the worst way to end the day. However, over time, I noticed it was good for me. It was the only moment that I could vent off, rid of all the bad feelings that tormented me during the day. I always ended up the day feeling exhausted, but I weirdly felt better, given the circumstances. It's weird I finally opened up, because I'm a little bit shy and talking to a stranger about my personal stuff is not something I'd normally do. Anyway, here I am again, even though the torture luckily ended. I need to see him.
"Come in." He greets me with his big smile and I enter the room. He takes a seat on his black leather armchair and I sit right in front of him. He hasn't changed the armchair I'm sitting at. I remember it being padded and comfy. He stares at me with a grin on his face. He's maybe a few years older than me. I never asked, but I assumed that was the case. "When the secretary told me who my next appointment was I couldn't believe it. It's been two months. Am I right?" the blonde man asks, still a smile tattooed on his lips. I nod at him. "Did you come to hear me talk?" He smiles at me and I smile back. "Are you feeling okay?"
"I'm better than I was two months ago."
"But you came back. Something must be bothering you. I thought you got over and that you were feeling fine. Is she okay?" His smile disappears, he's suddenly worried.
"She's fine. Everything is fine with her." I'm talking about my mom. She's the main reason I know Matt. Well, the accident where we were involved in is why I had to admit I need help. It seems like it was yesterday. I'm glad that nightmare ended when my mom awoke from the coma. I still remember those seconds before the crash in slow motion. The traffic light was green, I was driving and my mom was sitting next to me. We were listening to the radio and my mom was laughing loudly because of something funny the journalist said. I look at my right when entering the crossing, even though I didn't have to stop, the cards coming in the other direction had the traffic light red. I saw the truck coming to us. I accelerated to avoid the crash, but it was too late. The truck violently hit the side of the copilot. The impact was brutal. I just remember opening my eyes, my head against the airbag. The heart ached. I raised my head to look at my right. My mom's head was bleeding profusely. I called her name, but she didn't answer. I unfastened the seatbelt and tried to reach my cellphone. I heard the siren of the ambulance, somebody had already made the call. I sighed and looked at my mom again. Touching her terrorized me. She looked so fragile. Besides, I knew you are not supposed to move someone who has had such an accident to avoid making everything worse. I heard someone tapping the window of the car. I felt relief when I saw a guy that seemed a doctor making signals to me. He took me out of the car and got me inside the ambulance. I was not feeling good and I was in shock. However, I remember repeating the words "My mom" until we got to the hospital and I was sedated. The next thing I remember is waking up at the bed of the hospital, Caleb sitting right next to me. He looked worried, but I suddenly knew it wasn't because of me. I actually felt fine, although my heart ached a little bit. I knew that face meant something was wrong with my mom. And I was right. I just had a mild concussion and a broken finger. My mom wasn't so lucky though. You know the rest of the story. She spent two years in a comma. Meanwhile, I felt responsible of everything. I know now that it wasn't my fault. I mean, the other car jumped the red traffic light. However, my brain didn't admit that until way more later, when I started coming here. Talking to Matt was really helpful.
"You were always so introverted. But I thought after you spent so much time with me for the last two years you were going to be more talkative." He looks at his watch. "You have forty minutes to say anything you want to. I'm not cheap, and you know that," he adds as he winks at me.
"I feel completely messed up," I admit, sighing after those words escape my lips.
"Why?"
"It's not just one thing. It's a combination of circumstances that are making me feel overwhelmed." I feel the phone vibrating on my pocket, but I ignore it.
"Shoot."
"I'm seeing someone."
He smiles at me. "Isn't that supposed to be good news? It looks like you've seen a ghost."
"It's complicated."
"Why?"
"My dad doesn't want me to date any workmate."
He frowns at me. "Are you really so worried because of that? I don't think that's a real problem. I mean, you could talk to him."
"It's a girl."
He smiles at me. "Okay… I'm starting to get it. You're worried about your family's reaction." I nod at him. "Is she your first woman?" He laughs loudly. "That sounded weird. I mean, is she…"
"I understood your question perfectly." I tease him, grinning at him. "That's complicated."
"You're an enigma. What does that mean?" He looks surprised.
"It's the first woman I date."
"So your interest on a woman is something new." I sigh. "Okay. I guess that means you're not. Analyzing the situation is a difficult task if you keep being so mysterious." He laughs.
"I had a friend when I was in college. She was a lesbian."
"And? Tell me more."
"I guess I was curious about her." I take a deep breath. "I don't know. I mean, it was something I can't explain." He nods at me.
"What happened?" He crosses his arms, his eyes fixated on mine.
"Nothing happened. Well… We kissed once. I told her we were just friends, that that kiss meant nothing. She got furious. I didn't see her more. That happened seven years ago."
"That's sad," Matt adds.
"I had buried those feelings for a long time. This morning she called me. Her call surprised me. I mean, after all these years not knowing anything about her. It's weird. Her flight arrives tomorrow in the city." Matt opens her eyes widely. "Alison called me. I still can't believe it."
"What did she say?"
"She wants to see me." I sigh.
"What are you going to do?"
"I don't know. I didn't tell Emily anything about this."
"I guess Emily is your girlfriend."
"She is," I admit.
"Your face suddenly broke into a smile when you mentioned her." I blush. He's right. I can't help but feel happiness when I say her name.
"It looks like you like her."
"She's everything to me." I blush again and Matt grins at me. "Losing her terrifies me." My smile vanishes.
"Stop thinking about her like that. You like her and she likes you. That's all that matters." I nod at him, but it's not that simple.
"I can't deal with this. Coming out terrifies me. My dad doesn't want me to date any workmate, who by the way is a woman. On top of that Alison wants to recover our relationship, but I don't know if she wants to be just friends or something more. And my mom…"
"You said your mom is recovering. Is there any other problem?"
"I guess you don't know anything about my mom's sister, aunt Margaret."
"Of course I don't know her. New York is a huge city," he teases me, trying to make things easier for me. I laugh at his joke.
"My mom and my aunt haven't talked for a lot of years."
"What does that have to do with your concerns?" He frowns at me, obviously bewildered.
"My mom doesn't like her lifestyle." I emphasize that last word while I raise my eyebrows.
"So, she is…"
"She's a lesbian." I take a deep breath, making an effort to hold my tears. "She hates her. She doesn't talk to her sister just because she likes women. How am I supposed to deal with this? I mean, she just woke from a comma I provoked and I don't want to disappoint her now than…"
Matt interrupts me. "You didn't provoke that, don't you ever say that." A tear rolls down my cheek and Matt hands me a kleenex.
"Thank you," I add. "This is too much. There are too many obstacles. I can't do this anymore."
"I can see you love her. Do you really think she's the problem? Your girlfriend is not the problem."
"It's complicated, Matt."
"I know. All relationships are complicated, but you have to fight in order to be happy. I don't know her, but you clearly want to be with her."
"I thought coming here would make me think more clearly. I'm having more doubts, though."
Matt smiles at me. "You have to process everything and do whatever makes you happy." I nod at him, but achieving happiness giving the circumstances is going to be tougher than expected.
"Thank you for everything."
"You're welcome. You know I'm always here for you. You're like a sister to me." I smile at him and stand up to leave the room.
I walk to my apartment and check on my phone. I see a text that sends shivers down my spine.
"I'm dying to see you tomorrow at the airport, beautiful. :)"
To be continued…
Stay tuned! ;)
