IT'S NEVER TOO LATE
: Chapter 33 – Confrontation Wanted:
"Are you really thinking about it?" Hanna yells at me. "Just go change your clothes and let's go over there." She seems determined, I'm doubtful though.
"I don't think it's a good idea me showing there. I'm not in the mood and I don't want to contribute to a weird atmosphere. I just think it would be best if I calm down and talk to her tomorrow." I look at Spencer and she suddenly understands what I want from her.
"My opinion?" She stares at me. "Go." I look surprised at my friend, I thought she would be the one that would encourage me to be more thoughtful. I knew Hanna would be the one that would choose the impulsive decision, but not Spencer.
"We both think the same. So let's go change." She takes my hand and I follow her. The apartment I share with Spence is close, so it won't take a lot of time for a wardrobe change. "Do you have the address of that pub?" I nod at her and she grins at me. She's enjoying this moment.
"Are you two coming with me?" I don't want to go alone, but I know making them come and presence a very probable awkward moment is not something a friend would have to do.
"Of course we're going with you, dummy," Spencer adds, before winking at me.
"Thanks."
"Come on! You just need to put on those black leather pants and that white blouse," Hanna says.
"How did you know I was going to choose that outfit?" I laugh.
"''Cause you look fierce on those!" she exclaims, making me laugh louder. I actually love it, and I know is Paige's favorite too, so I have no doubt about what I'm going to wear. I feel like this was my first date with her.
I get dressed and take a quick look in the mirror. I decide to let my hair down, eliminating the side down ponytail I had before. I get another purse and go meet my friends that are watching TV in the living room while they wait for me.
"I just need ten minutes for…" I say, heading for the bathroom. However, Hanna interrupts me.
"No, Em! No make-up. You look spectacular and casual at the same time. Otherwise, it would look like you're trying to so desperately." Spencer nods at the blonde and claps at me.
"Gorgeous," she affirms.
"You're going to make me blush," I tease them.
"Okay, let's go! It's just two subway stops from here."
Those two subway stops felt everlasting and I can't stop thinking about what to do when I get there. When we finally leave the underground station, I look at the front door of the pub and check the text she sent me. It's definitely here, but I suddenly feel nervous. I look at my friends and they smile at me.
"I'm thirsty, Em. Let's go inside," Spencer jokes. She holds my arm and opens the door afterwards. The pub is crowded and it's kind of dark, but it is nice. I look around willing to spot Paige, but the lack of light makes it more difficult. I suddenly see her sitting at the bar and she waves at me. A blonde girl is sitting right next to her. She's gorgeous and I hate her a little bit for that. I knew she was attractive, but I didn't expect someone like that. Her deep eyes are on me, and they don't seem like welcoming at all. I guess she's not happy I'm here rescuing my girlfriend, I know she had other intentions with her and I'm a simple obstacle. Even if Paige assures me she doesn't have feelings for her, I know she's just lying to make me feel better.
"Now I understand everything," I hear Hanna say. The three of us are standing in the entrance, but I am having difficulties to approach them. I don't why I'm paralyzed, I should have nothing to worry about. I'm one hundred percent sure Paige is sure about her feelings for me.
"What are you talking about?" Spencer is curious about Hanna's words, just like I am. But I guess she refers to her beauty.
"Caleb told me that she is impressive. Every guy at her class wanted to hook up with her, but she only had eyes for Paige. She's hot." I frown at her. "I'm sorry, Em. You're way hotter, but I have to admit she's cute."
"Not helping, Hanna." Spencer elbows Hanna and she shakes her head. "Calm down and try to be nice, okay, Em?" Spencer holds my hand and her sweet smile makes the situation more comforting.
Paige stares at the three of us and makes another gesture. I guess she's confused because we are standing like idiots in the middle of the pub. "Let's do it," I add.
We walk towards them and I take a deep breath.
"You came!" Paige jumps out of the stool and hugs me. Before pulling away, she looks me in the eye, our faces almost touching and gives me that sexy smile that always makes me melt. "Thank you for coming." She places both hands on my cheeks and I realize she is looking at my lips. She unexpectedly kisses me and I suddenly feel better. I didn't expect this, but it feels fucking great.
"I'm sorry!" she excitedly yells at the girls. I have to admit she's funny when she's a little bit drunk. "So… this is Alison, girls. Spencer, Hanna and Emily." She points at the three of us but Alison is only fixated on me. I can feel her eyes on me.
I politely extend my hand. "Nice to meet you. I'm Emily."
"It's nice to meet you too," she replies, showing me a big smile. She seems nice, but I don't like that she's constantly looking at me, like she's challenging me or something like that. I may be imagining things, I want to think that's what's happening. Alison also greets Hanna and Spence, but her eyes always come back to me. She's not going to intimidate me. Paige, on the other hand, is holding me from the waist. She likes touching me, but not so much and even less in public. Although she's always more touchy feely when alcohol is running through her veins, so this is why she's being so affectionate. I'm not going to lie, I'm enjoying every second of it.
"I thought it was you," Alison exclaims, pointing at Hanna.
Hanna starts laughing. "You thought I was Emily? That's funny. I like Paige but I like her brother even more," she jokes. "Anyway, why did you assume that? I'm curious." Hanna grins at Alison.
"I just… I don't now… Maybe because you're blonde." She smirks at Paige. Spencer gives me that anger look but I smile at her. I need to ignore her, pretend those words didn't affect me at all. I know Spencer would love to shut her up with one of those snarky comments that she so much loves, but she decides to ignore her, at least for now. I, on the other hand, don't want to argue and I want everything to go smoothly. I didn't come to fight, even though Alison seems to be ready for a confrontation. She's clearly jealous about me, but I won't play her game. If she's trying to make me jealous with those stupid comments she is losing her time. I admit I was jealous all day, but after the kiss Paige gave me, I feel the luckiest person on Earth.
"I'm going to ask for a beer? Do you want something to drink?" I look at my friends.
"Another beer for me, Em." I knew Hanna would choose the same drink. Spencer, however, has always been different about that. We tease her a lot about it, but she keeps refusing to have a beer.
"Dry Martini for the lady. Am I right?" Spencer grins at me and then nods.
"Do you want another drink, Alison?" I politely ask.
"No, I'm fine, thanks," she answers.
"How about me? I'm always the last one," Paige jokingly complains. She holds my hand and starts caressing it.
"A delicious and healthy mineral water for my girlfriend," I tease her. She grins at me and I feel the urge to kiss her. I won't do that, though. I know it's not the best moment nor place to do that.
"The last one, please," she whispers me in the ear. I can't help but laugh loudly.
"I will order a bottle of water and a beer for you. You will drink water first and then that last beer. Is that okay with you?" I joke. She grins and nods at me. That smile is going to kill me.
"Whatever you say, mom," she teases me. I caress her cheek and her smile grows wider. I look to my right and I see rage on Alison's eyes. I knew I was right about her, she didn't forget about Paige, just like I had imagined.
We get our drinks and go take a sit at a booth that was occupied by some men and just left. I take a seat next to Paige and Spencer sit right next to her, leaving Alison between Spence and Hanna. Hanna is giving Alison conversation and they seem to get along with her. They keep laughing and Spencer is making an effort too, even if I realized she didn't like that first comment she made. Anyway, I appreciate they're trying hard, because I don't want any problems after the stressful day I just have been through. I only want to spend time with my girl. She may have drunk too much, but she's not the kind of drunk that's annoying, she's cute even when she's intoxicated. I take advantage of the fact that Alison and my friends are having an animated conversation to speak more privately with her. I pull a strand of hair away from her eyes after she takes a sip of water like I told her to.
"I'm sorry for being a dick. I don't know what happened to me and…" She interrupts me before I finish the sentence.
"I know what happened to you and I feel really honored." She places her hand on my thigh and I blush.
"Honored?" I surprisedly ask, making her grin.
"My girls is jealous, that means she wants me so badly." She's grinning cockily, I love that about her. I laugh.
"It isn't like that. I just wanted a beer, I didn't come to see you," I tease her. She laughs loudly.
"That's why you've been looking at my lips since you got here, am I right?" I blush.
"It's hard to contain myself," I joke. She teasingly nods her head, admitting she's irresistible.
"You should do it then," she sexily whispers in my ear.
"Not in front of her, it's rude." I look her in the eye and she frowns at me. She understands why I'm saying it, but it looks like she disagrees.
"You're too nice, Em." She places her hand on my hip and starts caressing under my blouse, making my heart start racing. She gets closer to me, looks me in the eye and gives me a quick kiss, then pulls away and leaves me wanting more. I kiss her back and she grins at me, showing me those sexy dimples. I look around, but I realize nobody is looking at us and my friends and Alison are totally into the conversation. "Do you want more?" she asks with a huge smile on her lips, while she keeps caressing me. This time it's me the one that can't control herself and takes her lips between mine. I introduce my tongue inside her mouth and when I touch her tongue all my jealousy goes away quickly. I feel better than ever, I feel lucky.
"I knew you wanted more," she teases me.
"You're a jerk," I reply, a giant smile on my face. "Do you want to leave?" She smiles and then nods at me.
"You want even more. You're insatiable, Fields!" she exclaims, making me laugh loudly.
We both stand up, make an excuse up and leave. Hanna and Spence decide to stay, they're having fun. Alison looks at the both of us and I can see she doesn't like this, but she decides to stay with my friends, pretending like she's having fun. I don't know her at all, but by her looks, I would affirm she's is totally bothered. I don't care though, I just want to be with her and that's what I'm going to do. I'm being selfish, but I want her all for myself. I want to make it very clear she's mine.
To be continued…
Stay tuned! ;)
