CHAPTER 6
.
With big bags full of magical fireworks, Apollo flew back over pegasus towards the beach but not too high so that if any bag fell off he could easily retrieve it. He didn't like leaving behind the human representative but she had decided so and it was probably better if she was hurt, even if she would miss the fun with everyone. And he wasn't going to admit to it but it bothered him a bit more than it should.
"Maybe I can try to scry her…"
He was considering using his powers over clarivency but something down on the ground called his attention. From the air he saw a unicorn running fast away at a fast pace, and farther away he could see the treetops moving from something big passing through them.
"Let's fly higher, Pegasus." Apollo tapped the horses neck and quickly gaining more altitude. "I wonder what other creatures there are here." He said, pondering on it a bit but not giving it more attention. They were gods after all, so they could handle anything Zeus did to test them.
After that, it took him little time to arrive to the beach and back to everyone. And it had been just in time, apparently. The tensions and boredom were obviously beginning to get to the gods and make them more mischievous.
"I'm back! And I brought the fireworks!" Apollo cheerfully called as he landed on the beach.
As soon as Pegasus stopped his trotting, most everyone approached although Hades remained a bit behind. All were curious.
"Took you long enough." Susanoo growled before noticing the obvious. "Where's the woman at? Kicked off the flying horse I hope." He sourly frowned, recalling the fight they had and how she had cheated.
"She decided to stay back at the school and rest. She might come by when she's feeling better though." Apollo enthusiastically grinned.
"Well, whatever. Let's test these things out now." Loki smirked as he pulled out a small bundle of the fireworks and took a good look at them as he wondered what sort of pranks he could play with these.
"Yes, let's see what these fire sticks can do!" Dionysus grinned, holding up a drink while already tipsy before drinking down the drink happily.
Hades silently stared at the fun occurring before he left and sat by the trees, intent on staying away from the potentially dangerous situation. He'd just ruin the fun so he would simply stay out of the way.
Apollo picked up a stick and lit it with a human invention called a 'match' he bought at the school store. After a second in the flames the top burst and began throwing off sparks like every sparkler does when ignited. "This is so cool!" Apollo cried, waving the stick around and watching the sparks light up the air in front of him.
"Hey, give me some here!" Loki grinned, taking some sparklers as he lit some up with a big grin on his face.
"Hey … me too." Tsukito said, holding one and watching the sparkling burst with color and light. Susanoo stared at the invention with a sour expression, not commenting on the fun at all.
"These are quite strange." Baldur said with a curious smile, tilting his head while lightly bouncing the stick and watching how the light moved in the air.
After a few minutes, Apollo set the singed stick remaining of the sparkler down and hurried over and set up a big line of the bigger fireworks. "Alright, let's move on to the main event!" Apollo excitedly shouted as he lit up one of the big fireworks and shot it off into the air. It zipped up into the sky, vanishing into the dark before exploring with color.
All of the gods were gathered together, looking up into the sky with awe and amazement at the exploding colors flashing across the sky in patterns that vaguely reminded them of flowers.
"Yeah! Now a big one again!" Apollo shouted in excitement, watching intently as a few small sparks of color popped before a very loud boom vibrated the air into their very lungs with an explosion of color that covered the entire sky. "Hell yeah!" Apollo cheered with a cheeky grin before downing a strong flavored wine which Dionysus was providing to the gods to enjoy.
Susanoo stared up into the sky, watching the flower patterns light up the sky. He remained frowning although enjoying the lights as Tsukito stoically looked on at the exploding lights, trying to calculate their trajectory before exploding.
"Woohoo~! More, shoot up some more!" Dionysus laughed, holding up a drink and enjoying the fine taste.
"Hell yeah, this is awesome!" Loki grinned. "Who knew fire could make shapes like that?" He said in wonderment, wondering how he could replicate and work it into his own pranks and tricks before he set up a small one and set it off too.
Hades looked away from the beauty of the fireworks and took a few steps back to avoid ruining the good moment. "Such a nice occasion … too bad misfortune is just around the corner." He heavily sighed, looking away.
"It's fine, uncle Hades! You can see them from all over. Don't you think they're like the stars?" Apollo asked as Hades turned his gaze back to the fireworks. He remained silent but slightly smiled in agreement with Apollo.
"They certainly are beautiful. I only wish I could feel their warmth." He sighed with a smile.
All of the gods were completely enamored by the display of power and color the fireworks provided - all the gods except for Hades. He sat behind an umbrella, listening to the loud noises of the fireworks exploding. He feared if he looked at them directly, something tragic would happen to everyone. Hades frowned, disliking the sand between his toes as he took a large swig from his alcoholic beverage of choice and did his best to ignore the exuberant cries of the other gods.
Dionysus lounged on a thickly woven blanket on the beach, refilling Susanoo's sake dish with some delicious white wine while he sulked about his loss against the human representative.
"Stupid ona … dishonorably throwing sand into my eyes." He growled with his face a bright red, wobbling slightly from how much he had drunk before downing another quick gulp and holding out his dish to be refilled again. "Coward." He spat in annoyance, sipping down more of the drinks while occasionally glancing at the fireworks.
"But nii-san, a god fighting a human isn't fair either. You are stronger and have undoubtedly more experience. Humans don't live that long to train." Tsukito said, staring up into the sky and studying the patterns and rates at which different fireworks had exploded. He wrote down notes and made drawings at an impressive speed, theorizing how the fireworks looked depending on how much black powder was used and how it was positioned inside the containers which, upon explosion, became large explosions of beautiful colors. He shifted in his spot, wanting to know all about them, from how they flew up into the air and how the different chemical compounds created different varying colors.
"A god with his powers striped away, crippling me … tch, is this what all humans feel? Being this weak?" Susanoo tsked in annoyance. "So weak to resort to dirty tricks? Is there no more honor among humans?"
Susanoo went on in his rant as everyone kept on playing or enjoying around.
"These human fireworks are amazing! They're so big and loud! You can really feel them through your body!" Apollo cried out in enjoyment, hopping back to the blanket and taking a seat next to Hades. "Hey, uncle, why aren't you watching the fireworks?"
"Why bother? Even the human is not here to watch the fireworks, which is a human creation. So why bother enjoying it if the human deems my presence such a curse that she cannot stomach to watch the beautiful works?" He asked, hanging his head slightly with a deep frown.
"Oh come on, that's not why she's not here. Probably." Apollo shrugged with a smile. "But you know what would be really cool? If we set them all off at once!" He excitedly laughed before he turned and ran over to the ramp where the fireworks were. "Let's see how big these human fireworks can really get!" He grinned as he set up all of the fireworks at once in a straight line. He ran past them, lighting the fuses but the shifting in sand made some of the fireworks fall to the side, aimed at the trees without anyone noticing. "And now let's see them all fly!" Apollo shouted, reaching the end and looking over the fireworks before spotting a few laying on their sides. His eyes widened, staring at the mistake before the flames reached the end of the fuse.
With loud whistling and whining, the fireworks all began to go off at different times. The first few shot into the air, twisting around and exploding too close for comfort. The flash of color blinded the young gods for a moment before the rest of the fireworks took off, shooting off in all different directions - including in the direction of the gods on the blankets.
The once fun fireworks quickly turned into explosive bombs as the gods quickly began taking cover, rushing into the trees as the fireworks exploded loudly behind them. Susanoo quickly grabbed his brother Tsukito, running with him over his shoulder as Tsukito calmly read the instructions manual to figure out what to do in this situation. Loki sprinted ahead of them, pissing Susanoo off as he glared at the god of tricks. "You did this, Loki! Why do you always ruin the fun?!" Susanoo shouted at him as Loki loudly laughed at all the beautiful chaos exploding all around them. Once safe, Susanoo put Tsukito down before the ocean god began chasing down Loki.
Hades bunkered down behind a tree, blaming himself for the horror happening no while Dionysus laughed and clapped his hands, too drunk to fully comprehend the danger the fireworks presented to them all.
"I'll help, Apollo!" - Balder shouted as he ran over and, seeing the largest fireworks still grounded, quickly grabbed the fireworks and went to throw it in the ocean but it exploded in his arms, obliterating his clothing. He frowned and took a few steps back, covered in soot but unharmed as he frowned. - "S-Sorry about that." - He nervously smiled with a laugh.
Apollo covered his face from the close proximity explosion before looking up, seeing Balder completely unharmed as Tsukito walked up to Apollo and tapped him on the shoulder. "I believe we misread the instructions." He said, pointing to the manual for Apollo to see as Apollo looked around the beach, seeing trees on fire and some fireworks still burning against the sand while most of the fireworks, thankfully, landed in the ocean and extinguished themselves. His shoulders slouched, shocked by how dangerous the human fireworks were.

Sparkling eyes, one pink and one green, peeked out from behind some leaves, observing a female taking a bath in the large hotsprings of the gods. He tilted his head, feeling drawn to her for a very odd reason. He folded his wing feathers and with quiet steps he crawled over the branches in the low bearing bushes and remained hidden with his ears folded down. By the edge of the spring and at her side was a multi-leveled tray filled with assorted sweet savory desserts, all velvet red, that made his mouth drool as he crept closer to the delicious food while her back was turned.
The mercenary meanwhile was half submerged on the thermal waters and enjoying the pastries she had taken from the guy's storm as payment for her desserts were truly delicious and she was already past half the tray. She was taking the next one when she saw the most curious sight. Approaching her cautiously was a creature, it looked like a fox or a small dog. A quadrupedal with an agile canine features… but it's legs were somewhat scaley and it seemed to have folded wings that came out of its frontal limbs. Not only that, but more than just fur it also seemed to have incredibly fluffy feathers that culminated in a fan like feathered long tail. It's main body was the color of a deep set auburn coloration with a white belly. Its fur shifted between shades of orange and red with a darker coloration of amber on its backside which spread out over to its wings, whish tips were as black as it's legs. The tip of its fluffy tail was a white ringed with darker shades of amber along with its paws leading up to its elbows. Overall, the shades and color on the fox-thing were very beautiful, and she would have appreciated it more if not for the share weirdness of the creature she was staring at and the random moment of it's approach.
"Another experimental creature?" - She looked at the animal. It looked young, but who knew if it was vicious.
Seeing that her eyes were now on him, the fox's fur puffed up before he quickly flattened himself against the ground and closed his eyes, hiding himself from the woman's gaze. His ears flattened against his head as his long tail curled around his side, still very clearly visible.
Aria blinked a couple times and then rose an eyebrow. The animal was… hiding? Or thinking he was doing so. In any case, this small thing seemed more manageable than that pegasus, and if she could get it to approach maybe she could examine it. After all, the genetic modification at this facility was something irrationally marvelous in its accomplishes if the pegasus or this canine were an example of it. These animals seemed designed for fancy and not for functions, well, the pegasus still served as horse, a flying horse, but it wasn't practical when a drone or a helicopter could do that transportation work better.
As she stared at the creature, its eye peeked open ever so slightly. It stared back at her, darting its gaze over to the food and back to her as it took a small crawling step closer to the food before stopping and shutting its eyes to hide itself once again. After a few moments it peeked out again, staring at her and taking a daring two crawling steps closer before closing its eyes and hiding once more.
"Hey" - She softly called the animal to not startled it, and for better measure she tossed a small piece of dessert it's way while holding the rest in her hand to lure it closer. If she managed to get it closer maybe she could grab it.
The foxy perked up, holding its ears up towards her and peeking at the food. It slowly moved closer before holding still, refusing to come any closer as it hungrily stared at the food with glowing eyes. After a hesitant step, it stretched its head out and nibbled on the dessert before gobbling it up eagerly. It remained close to the ground but its tail wildly wagged in excitement as it looked up at her with sparkling eyes.
The naked merc smiled, then she tossed him another small piece, this time closer to her. - "You like it, don't you?" - She once again spoke softly. - "If you come closer I'll give you more."
With an excited wiggled it let out a loud caw, snatching up the other piece eagerly before it whipped around and vanished into the foliage almost too fast for the merc to follow.
Aria looked at where the animal disappeared and then cussed in spanish. It had been a close opportunity. She had already been thinking on trying to get that animal and either vivisect him or take him alive and back to sell it at the best posture for the chance of examining its genetical mashup. With a huff, she submerged herself again in the waters for a moment before resuming her planning.
After a few moments alone, she heard some leaves rustling and immediately she grabbed closer her nearby things, specially the electric batton. She kept a sharp eye on the spot before watching the strange creature stumble out of the bush. It stopped and shook itself out before hopping over to her with a wildly wagging tail and set down a shiny stone a little more than a meter from her. It heavily panted in excitement and nudged the stone closer to her before it hopped back a few feet and excitedly danced on its front paws while looking at her expectantly.
"A rock?" - She looked at the excited animal not understanding the present, however the change to capture it again had presented itself once more, so she tossed him another small piece of the red velvet dessert.
The fox's fur puffed up as he rushed forwards and excitedly gobbled down the treat before it looked up to her with big excited eyes. Without any sense of fear it trotted over to her with a big grin on its muzzle as it looked up to her.
"So you do like it, huh? Well…" - She smiled and waved the rest of the treat. - "If you come with me I'll give you the rest. I might decide to keep you too." - She tempted, to sign him another small piece now right in front of her.
The fox's eyes widened with adoration as he looked up to the female. She wanted him as a familiar? With an excited caw he ran around in circles, looking up to her and wildly wagging his tail while cawing up to her and standing on his hind legs in excitement.
She tossed the last small piece to the creature and grabbed another pastry to continue. It was now too friendly, so maybe it had been engineered as a pet maybe? - "So I take it as a yes?" - She asked to the creature as if she was talking to some stray pup.
He munched on the yummy pastry before crowing excitedly, finding it delicious as he hop around with his wings flaring and his fur going poofy as he excitedly darted around before nudging his nose against her arm, eating another piece she gave him before he rolled over for belly rubs. It looked up to her, whining excitedly with his tail quickly wagging. - "I love you lots and if you keep feeding me yummy food I'll do whatever you want! I'll wash your clothes, give you baths, take you out on walks, and I'll be a great conversationalist for you! Just gimme yummy foods and I'll be your familiar, I promise!" - He said while his tail wagged madly, but the only thing she heard was cawing.
Aria tossed him half the pastry this time and then approached her hand to try and touch 'him', grab him if possible, but before she could touch him, it rolled up and stopped all noise before dashing away again, leaving her somewhat confused. She waited a bit for it to come back but it seemed that this time he wasn't returning. So she began eating the rest of the desserts but left the remaining half she was giving to the animal aside in order to finish her bath. The hot temperature was starting to get to her anyways.
Aria let out a deep breath before finishing up her bath, applying the medicine to her wounds before she heard a commotion heading towards her. Naturally, she prepared for an attack while heading towards her stuff, remaining in silence while locating the direction of the noise's source.
The foxy suddenly burst out of the bushes with a golden apple in its mouth as Anubis came running after him, appearing desperate to get the golden apple back. "Bara ba! Ba kaa!" He shouted, chasing the little fox and narrowly managing to grab it. The fox slipped out of his grasp easily and sprinted over to Aria, hiding behind her legs as its chest huffed and puffed from being chased by the nimble jackal god.
"What the fuck?" Aria looked at Anubis, taking a combat pose while keeping an eye of the fox.
Anubis came to a stop, breathing hard and looking down at the fox with an annoyed but concerned expression before he pointed at the fox all upset. "Bara bara kaa! Bara ba!" He shouted, narrowing his eyes angrily but also confused.
"Wait … kaa? What do you mean Kaa? That dog was in the infirmary." Aria asked, not losing her posture entirely, but curious about what the guy was trying to say.
"Bara, bara kaa!" He spoke more slowly, pointing at the fox with a harumph expression. Not minding her nakedness.
"You mean this is KAA?" Aria asked carefully, looking down at the fox- thing that was pawing at her foot, lolling its tongue, and wagging its tail. It did looked like a puppy, at least in behavior, but it also was very different physically. ("Have they modified it!?") . It looked more like a fox cub than a puppy, not to mention all the feathery attachments. She then looked at Anubis for confirmation.
Anubis nodded, gesturing for the apple this time, "bara kaa barabara!"
From behind Aria's legs the fox creature's tail puffed up as it growled at the god. Once feeling safe the god would not pursue him while he was protected by Aria's legs, the foxy stood on its hind legs and pawed at her legs, trying to get her attention so she could feed him more yummy treats.
"Did they … Zeus modified the puppy to make it into this thing?" Aria asked again. She could hardly believe it. Genetic modification required a long process of genetic therapy. Even the most advanced CRISPR* techniques required a continuous and prolonged process for anything that wasn't engineered from the start of its existence.
The animal then happily barked a cawing at her.
"Ba! Kaa baba, Bara ba!" Anubis growled, again pointing at the apple and clearly wanting it back.
Seeing that he would not be receiving a treat, the foxy huffed before placing the apple between her feet before it dashed off into the bushes quickly. Seeing his possession at her feet, Anubis walked toward Aria to reclaim his stolen item.
Aria looked at the apple before turning back to him. "No, you cannot have it back." She stated. It looked weird because it was golden so it might have some metals in it and thus was not edible; however, she wanted to examine it.
Anubis jolted, startled by her words before huffing with a deep frown. "Ba!" He growled pointing annimately at the apple which clearly belonged to him - or once did, anyway.
Aria grabbed the shiny rock the fox came with earlier and tossed it at Anubis. "There, I'll trade the weird apple for that one."
Anubis caught the rock, starting at it before looking up at her with clearly a dissatisfied expression at the trade she was proposing. Anubis opened his mouth to speak but the bushes rustled, making him turn to see the foxy rush over to Aria with his tail wildly wagging. The foxy ran up to her, pawing at her shin for attention while whining loudly.
Aria briefly looked down at the insistent critter and noticed that what the animal had brought this time was a grenade. It didn't have the pin and the animal was somehow biting with enough force on the safe for it to not activate. "Fuck!" She quickly grabbed the grenade from the animal's mouth and tossed it away towards the woods as hard as she could, ducking down while an unknown great angry roar coming from the woods reverberated before abruptly stopping with some weird big spurting sound as Aria took cover behind a rock and Anubis jolted and took off running with the shiny rock in hand, leaving the golden apple in the floor.
No sooner had he vanished, a massive downpour of blood fell from the sky, soaking everything in the surroundings in thick, viscous blood, including the naked hooman that had stood up from behind the rock.
"Ugghhh…" Aria looked at the amount of blood around, not even caring about being covered in it herself. Whatever had exploded, from the grenade she assumed, had to have been very big and the grenade had been more powerful than a normal grenade should, which led her to think about were the heck the foxy had even gotten it from. She looked down at the fox once again. "Don't bring grenades without their pins in."
The foxy yipped, sounding excited as it wagged its tail and lightly half barked and half cawed, clearly searching for a compliment on the gifts it had brought her.
"But seriously, what the fuck did we blew up?" She asked to no one as she saw some of the bigger meat and tissue parts around. She decided to check, her curiosity being immediate, so she walked into the woods to see the corpse of what looked to be a dragon of some kind. It was indeed massive. Bigger than an elephant but sort of wyvernish in look … more like a serpent with leathery wings and small but strong feet with very big and sharp claws. It didn't have the head or the upper part of the neck; it had been blown up.
The foxy shook itself before walking with her by her legs, looking around at the corpse but got under Aria's legs while she was looking the corpse, and when she tried to take another step forward, she tripped on with the animal and fell to the slippery floor, rolling around on the pool of blood and fluids before managing to step up.
The puppy crow-fox-thing huffed before pausing, smelling the delicious entrails of the prey, specially the heart and liver of the dragon. With glowing eyes he leaps onto the liver and munched away at it with an eagerly wagging tail while leaving his new master to explore the rest of the kill.
The merc went back to get her stuff and returned to the dragon examined the dragon and determined that the creature was probably a modified serpent while taking a few samples and photos. At the very least she could sell the samples. She then decided that such was a lucky turn of events for herself... but she wouldn't be taking a bath outside anymore.
Now, with a need for a smoke, she turned around and walked back to the bath area to grab the rest of her stuff. She noticed she was still covered in goo and blood so she got in the cleaner sections of the water to sort of scrub it off before noticing the filthy foxy as well. She grabbed her merchandise, a living sample of the gene editing technology they had here, and decided it needed a bath too. She did not want the blood to stain its fur or make it smelly in case she needed to keep it for longer, at least until she got out of the island and reached somewhere to sell the animal. "You need a bath." She said and lowered it gently into the water, hoping it wouldn't go crazy.
The foxy kicked its legs and arms to swim, trying to keep itself afloat while she scrubbed the fox's fur despite its whining and trying to get out of the water. After cleaning up the foxy and herself she got up and grabbed her stuff. Drying of as she could with her microfiber towel and dressed up before trying to dry a bit the feathery animal that just went and shook itself, propelling water all around.
Aria decided to give a last check to the carcass. Frankly she wanted to perform many tests, but she was tired and probably in shock, so she went to check the dead beast, taking a deep breath in front of it. This place was far more dangerous than she had thought, and the faster she could get the fuck away from this place the better. With the foxy in her grasp she already had something very valuable, so she didn't even need to wait. More so, what if they decided to get rid of her once the so called school year was done?
She was barely about to go back when Thoth appeared.
Thoth, egyptian god of knowledge, arrived to a scene of impossibility. A dead dragon and the human representative wallowing in its bloody remains. He watched as she walked towards him, shocking him futher that she was managing to walk away an encounter with such a fearsome beast. "What killed that dragon?" Thoth asked with wide eyes of shock. Whatever had killed it had been huge, maybe an even bigger breast due to the state of the corpse.
The woman groaned. She would have ignored but she remembered Anubis had seen her toss a grenade. "I did … accidentally." She said and walked away.
As she walked passed him, hundreds of thousands of explanations of how she was able to defeat a dragon ran through Thoth's mind but he was unable to settle on any single explanation. He remained silent and still as he reviewed his library of information, unable to come to an acceptable explanation of how the human representative destroyed such a fearsome creature. And not being able to explain this possibility left Thoth star stuck in thought.

With heavy footsteps Aria returned to her room with the foxy trotting after her, yipping and cawing for attention while saying what a good familiar he will be for her.
After a small while they reached her room. She walked inside and took a seat in the bathroom, watching as the little fox leapt up onto the bed and crawled onto her lap before looking up at her, looking alert and attentive with his ears pointed towards her. She blinked and stared at it before she very slowly tried touching it. Seeing it not shy away and actually lean into the touch, she went ahead and rubbed its face in her hands. She gently pet its face, listening to its growling hums before she fed it some small pastry that she had brought in for such purpose. As it chowed down on the pasty she left and shut the door, making the fox creature jolt before it whipped around. Seeing it closed inside the bathroom, it frantically scratched at the door, wanting to come with her while yipping and making cawing noises to get her attention.
Since the doors was not hers to pay to fix, she ignored the frantic fox. She was exhausted and needed sleep so she activated her cochlear implants and cancelled all noises while setting up her perimeter. Once it was all secure, she laid in bed to get much needed rest.
With an indignant huff the foxy flew up to the window of the bathroom and slipped outside. He flew around, lightly smacking into the window to her room before it wildly began scratching the glass to get her attention. Seeing her unresponsive he panicked and smacked his head against the glass window a few times before it shattered. He tumbled inside, shaking himself off before he ran over to her. With a strong leap he leapt onto the bed, looking down at her sleeping face before pawing at her chin and making her mouth open a bit. He leaned over her, making some gagging noises before he regurgitated part of the dragon's spleen he ate earlier into her mouth.
Aria's eyes burst open as she felt something slimy slip down her throat. Having no other choice she swallowed while the foxy looked down at her and happily panting with a wildly wagging tail.
With a yip the foxy wagged his tail rather proudly as Aria shoved it off and leapt up, gagging in disgust before trying to throw up whatever went into her mouth. As she hunched over the foxy landed on her back, kneading its paws into her back while eagerly crowing. In his mouth he held the apple as he leaned over her shoulder, trying to poke the apple slice into her mouth as his tail wildly wagged.
Aria quickly spat out the apple piece as the foxy leapt off her back and ate it, crunching away happily at the apple piece. Seeing it not poisoned she grabbed the rest of the apple and ate it, trying to remove the awful taste in her mouth. Once she had cleaned out her mouth she went back to the bed, glaring at the foxy that looked up at her with an excitedly wagging tail. In her annoyance she laid back down and covered her mouse while the foxy hopped onto her stomach, circling a few times before laying its head down between her breasts with a smug but adorable smile on his face. Aria thumped her head against the pillow, planning to tell Hermes to get her a parachute so she could jump off of the island.
