Beautiful Nightmares
Chapter Eighteen
Catty jumped up when her phone rang. It was a video chat. Once she saw who was calling her, she tapped the button right away. "Hello?!" Stella and Reid joined Catty in the frame.
They saw struggling to get the phone in the right direction. The room was white. It looked like… a hospital? "Catty?"
"Will!" She held her phone in a tight grip. "Will, what's going on?"
They watched as the frame steadied and a beautiful beige werecat was in the hospital bed with two blue bundles of joy. Little Clara crawling up onto the bed to admire her little brothers. "Shortly after I landed, Sophia was so excited for my arrival… it put her into labor. And here I'd like you to be the first to meet our brand new sons, Jamie and Julian."
Catty had a tear in her eye. "Oh Will, Sophia… they're beautiful! Look at those little faces. Hi babies!" She smiled as they fussed slightly, Sophia doing her best to rock them both. Catty cleared her throat and softly sang, "Lullaby and goodnight with roses bedight, with lillies o'er head is baby's sweet bed. Lay thee down now and rest, may thy slumber be blessed. Lullaby and goodnight thy mother's delight, bright angels beside my darling abide. They will guard thee at rest, mmmhmmm..."
Shortly after she finished the new werekittens were fast asleep. "Thank you, sweetheart." Sophia lay the new bundles down to rest in their little make-shift hospital beds.
"No, thank you Sophia. For sacrificing your kind-hearted husband to be with me all this time. It's very selfless, I appreciate all of you so much. In fact… William." the camera frame turned to William.
"Yes?"
Catty stood tall and non-negotiable, not that he could totally see it, but still. "Will, I am doubling your salary and asking you to be Catty Noir's exclusive manager. As you know, I kinda need one and there's no one better suited for the position than you."
The phone almost fell out of his hands. "Catty… I… I can't-"
"You can and you will accept this, William. Listen… you will take some time off, as long as I'm enrolled at Monster High and only when you're ready… you may return to work."
Clara climbed up on her father's lap and hugged him. She was cute as a button. "Catty… I… I don't know what to say."
"Say that you'll be my manager, is double your salary not enough?" She pondered for a moment. Tapping a manicured nail on her chin. "I'll triple it."
"Catty no! That's not what I meant-"
"Pish-posh," she picked the term up from her mother. "William, take care of those beautiful babies. Keep in touch, bless you all." Catty hung up and felt good about everything. Her beloved chauffeur made it home in time for his wife to have their babies and that meant the world to her. She did not want him to miss the birth of those boys for anything, especially her.
With a warmed heart, she excused her ignorance and sat down to dinner once again, with both her loving parents. Unlife couldn't get any better.
"Why hello ghoul!" The amazing Casta Fierce held out her hand for Catty Noir to shake that Monday morning. Catty's jaw dropped.
"Ohmyghoul! Casta?!" She had a hard time catching her breath.
Casta giggled. "Oh Catty! I'm no one special."
"Don't you dare say that Miss Fierce," Catty held up a manicured finger in protest. "you are everything special! I am a huge fan, it's so nice to meet you. What are you doing here at Monster High?"
Casta tossed her long dark locks over her shoulder. "I came here to meet you, Catty. You made a wicked splash with your statement. Ghouls are looking forward to adventures in their own school lives because of you. It can be a tough time, but with your words of encouragement… you're inspiring this generation to wake up and take advantage of the wonderful, educational opportunities in front of them. That's inspiring… you're inspiring."
Catty could hardly contain an excited squeal. "I can't believe the Casta Fierce is calling me inspirational!"
"Well you are!" She sat down on one of the rocks near the school's entrance, Catty sat down on another rock near Casta's. "I know how cutthroat the industry is hon, I've been there. The pressure of perfect performances and twisty lyrics, it still gives me vertigo sometimes. Never lose yourself in the glitz and glam of Tinseltown again, but now that you know who you are… it'll be easy to come back to the best you, to regroup and create beautiful music. Which I would absolutely love to collaborate with you sometime!"
Not only did Casta gush about Catty being inspirational, she wanted to do a collaboration with her?! She almost felt faint. Could this truly be happening? "Oh Miss Fierce, I would love to do a collab with you ghoul."
"That's what I like to hear!" They both stood up and Casta hugged Catty. "Keep doing you ghoul, stay fab!" She put on her designer shades and headed towards her broom which was in a VIP parking spot.
Twyla appeared from the bushes. "Wow, Casta huh? Who could have ever thought she'd show up?"
Catty knew better. "Twyla, you sneaky ghoul you!"
"Well, I do hide out in the shadows… it's kinda my thing."
Catty hugged her. "I know you're behind Casta's appearance here, you have to be. You're the only one who knows I adore her."
Twyla blushed and wanted to hide again but alas, she was being pinned in a friendship hug. "Yeah, it was me." She parted the hug with her dear friend. "I figured it was something I could do to make it up to you, for being so harsh."
"You totally didn't have to do that, but I accept it." The warning bell rang. "Uh oh, better go before Hack has a fit."
Twyla laughed. "You fit in just fine."
Heath and Abbey were in the usual hangout spot. The hangout spot was exclusive to Twyla, Invisibilly and Catty. This was where they came to have lunch now that Catty didn't have to run off all the time. She never looked so relieved. It seemed like things were going normal… well, as normal as they could be at Monster High and all. "Twyla set up Catty to meet Casta? Very thoughtful." Abbey commented as they reviewed the crazy events of the morning.
"Yeah, you love her." Heath added, though Catty wasn't sure when she told him that she enjoyed Casta Fierce. Was it that obvious? Hmm.
Twyla smiled. "It wasn't all me, I wrote a letter… Billy took it through the walls and right to Casta's lap while she was enjoying a glass of Scardonnay."
Catty felt so lucky and blessed to have such kind friends. "I have the best friends in the entire world. You guys are amazing. Thank you for caring so much about me. I love you guys." She pulled them all into a hug.
"We love you way more, ghoul." Twyla smiled and rummaged through her bag to see what she had for lunch this time.
Catty jumped when her phone buzzed. She paled instantly. She thought all the bad was over… she swallowed a hard lump in her throat and pulled her phone out. Her heartbeat returned to semi-normal when she saw it was her new manager, William Tabby. It had only been a couple weeks since Sophia had those precious babies. What could it be?
"Answer it!"
Right! She hit the 'talk' button and then 'speaker phone'. "Will! Will, what's wrong?"
She hadn't realized how much she missed his laugh, until just now. "Nothing, nothing. I've taken my role as your new manager seriously and I received a phone call. Do you remember a certain TV show wanting a certain on-the-run popstar to star on it?"
"Uh huh." She replied.
"Well, they still do! It's a teenage-school based drama, it would be good for you. I'm not sure about the details of your character or anything. You'd have to get in at some point and do some line reading for them."
Her education came first, but she wasn't going to lie, this was super exciting! "Of course, can they meet me after school?"
"They'll meet you anytime Catty, and they want to know if you have anything you'd like to see from them in return."
Catty drummed her nails upon the rhinestone-studded jeans she wore. "I do… tell them that I will accept the role as long as my character's name is Dakota Scarrington."
William chuckled. "I had a feeling you'd say that, dare I ask why?"
Catty smiled at her friends. "Dakota represents everything my whole 'double-life' adventure represents. Freedom, good friends and a fresh new start."
"Consider it done. Take care Catty, I'll be in touch."
The phone call ended and her friends nearly crushed her in another hug. They were honored that she wanted to represent them in any way she could. The warning bell rang and they cleaned up their lunches. "Well, I guess we'll find out what's in store for Dakota and I. Stay tuned!"
From that moment forward, Catty and her friends laughed hard, experienced unlife and continued to make the best memories together.
