JOHN'S POV

"Sh-Sherlock. Sherlock, wait!" I screamed, watching as he had run out the door and towards the sounds of footsteps. It was like one minute, it was fine, we were talking to Soo Lin and we were about to find out more about Abrielle, the next minute … total chaos. The lights had turned on, Soo Lin had told them that he had come. That the spider or something was here to kill her and Sherlock had run out to look for the guy. Now the one question, the main question that plagued his mind was if he should stay with Soo Lin or go help Sherlock. One part of his mind yearned to help Sherlock, to make sure he was okay and didn't get himself killed. But the other part, the more rational part of his mind told him to stay. To protect his sister's friend knowing that Sherlock was perfectly fine by himself. Who to choose, who to help. Yet, no matter how hard he thought he came to one simple conclusion. He would need to protect Soo Lin. Abrielle had saved Soo Lin for a reason, and John would need to keep her alive for that same reason.

"Come here." I whispered to the woman, guiding her across the room to a large cupboard and walking inside, closing the door behind us. All that mattered now was making sure Soo Lin stayed alive. She was the priority. His army instinct kicking in as he quickly placed his body in front of her own. No harm would come to Soo Lin Yao. None. Abrielle's friends came before him, that was certain. Abrielle Watson was a child with a unique childhood, someone who never had friends and someone who stated she never would. So, being here with someone so close to Abrielle in the past shows that Soo Lin was special, very special and she needed to stay alive no matter what the cost.

Gunfire rang out causing me to snap out of my thoughts and glance towards the woman, making sure she was still okay. Sherlock must have found the guy if the gunfire was any indication. He was probably chasing him down as we speak, either one of them or both of them firing at one another. I stopped thinking, my brain alert as a bang had clearly resounded outside the cupboard in the other room. Someone was in the room with us … and hopefully, hopefully it was Sherlock.

"He has found me. He is going to kill me." Soo Lin whispered to me, fear shining in her eyes as she glanced past me towards the closed cupboard door. She is so scared, so completely scared of dying. I've seen that look many times before, all the men and women I took care of in battle, all the people that had been brought to me … they all had that fear in their eyes. That fear of death. And it wasn't fair that Soo Lin would have to go through that too. She was a civilian, a human being, an innocent. No one would get to her, and her fear would not become a reality. Not today, not now. Because he was here to make sure she was safe, he was here to fix her just like he fixed all of those men and women in the army. She. Would. Live. Soo Lin said that his brother was going to kill her, but that was not fact, that was an opinion.

"He'll have to get through me first." John firmly replied. I was a soldier … well, a doctor. But I was a damn good doctor with a tough exterior. Or well … that's what I thought at least. Yes, I hadn't technically fought in a battle, guns and all, but I had been pushed past my comfort point, crawling through rough terrain and blistering heat to help save the fallen. True, I was no longer in the army. True, we weren't facing the same danger we would face in that situation. But Soo Lin Yao was someone who needed help, and I would never deny her of that help.

"I must die, and I shall face it with honor. It is something your sister has taught me." Soo Lin replied, trying to push past me. She was trying to fight past her fear of death, to be strong and not break down into tears. I could see it, she had lost faith, in those few moments of protection she had broken down and lost all hope of rescue. I took her hand in mine, looking straight in her eyes.

"You won't die. I won't let you." I told her, my will to fight for her stronger than ever. She was clever and strong, yet so weak in battle. She needed protection and that was exactly what he was here for.

"She was right, you're so caring so quickly." Soo Lin replied. And just like that I opened the door, ready for battle, keeping my body in front of hers as to make sure she would be alright. He was there, a man wearing nothing but black, and a gun in his hands. He was facing them, a malice smile on his face as he saw the woman behind me. He thought he would win, that we were surrendering, but he was so very wrong. I would fight even if it meant my death, and eventually I would win.

"I won't let you kill her."

"How will you stop me tiny man?" He replied to my comment, making me see red. I was not tiny! Yes, I was on the small side, but I was not tiny, no way! Too many people called me tiny and I was done with it. DONE. And so, just like that I let go of Soo Lin's hand and attacked the man, punching him straight in the face and sweeping him to the ground, his body most certainly unconscious.

"That's what I'm going to do." I uttered, a small smile on my face as I looked down towards his prone body. He was not going to kill Soo Lin anymore, she was safe. So very safe, and that had actually been so much more easier than I had thought.

"Thank you so much, you saved my life. I can stop hiding now. I can live a normal life." Soo Lin replied, kissing my cheek in gratitude. She would be able to stop fearing her life, to stop fearing that her past would come back to haunt her, and finally, finally she would get to move on with her life and do what she wants to do. I nodded my head at her, happy to know that I had saved someone's life today. I had saved her life. My sister's friend. Soo Lin Yao, safe.

"When you find Abrielle tell her to come visit me sometime. I want to see her again. Goodbye Mr. Watson." She stated, looking towards her fallen brother once more before quickly running towards the grate and slipping in. She could go be free now, live her life. And if she had known Abrielle that only meant that Sherlock and I were close. Very close. We found our connection, our key as Sherlock had called it, and soon, very soon we would find my sister safe and sound. According to Soo Lin of course. It was almost time. I could feel it. The final showdown. And I had a feeling that I was in for quite the surprise.
