Oh, story. Right. Ahem…anyway…

It was a cold, clear December morning over the ocean near the Southern Water Tribe. Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Suki were on Appa, traveling to the South Pole for a very special occasion.

It was Christmastime, and Katara and Sokka eagerly suggested the group go to the Southern Water Tribe to celebrate the holiday. Toph and Zuko passed, for obvious reasons, and Suki tagged along because she wanted to meet everyone at the South Pole.

Aang went along with the idea, and so the group of friends were merrily on their way.

Aang was especially excited because he and Katara could get some alone time more easily in the growing, but still relatively small, town than in the hustle and bustle of Ba Sing Se's city streets. And of course, mistletoe would be a key element to the young couple's second Christmas together.

Aang smiled as the Southern Water Tribe came Into view. Ah yes, knowing the Avatar the way we do, of course we can assume that Aang had something very special planned for the girl who freed him from his icy grave two years ago. (Hint hint.) He could hardly wait.

We can also assume that Katara had some plans for Aang, knowing her the way we do. She wasn't one to make grand gestures very often—no, that was in Aang's department—but she had a few tricks up her sleeve—along with a bit of fish she had snagged from Sokka (hint hint—you'll never guess this one) that she was lucky hadn't begun to smell yet.

Indeed, both Aang and Katara were determined to make this holiday the merriest Christmas ever.

Aang's special surprise happened to take place first. After a joyous greeting with Katara and Sokka's family members, Aang quickly snagged Katara away and led her to Appa.

"Aang…where are you taking me?" Katara asked, laughing at her boyfriend's eagerness.

"You'll see," he told her. He then went up to Appa's head and whispered something into the bison's ear before helping Katara up.

With the usual, "Yip-yip!," the pair was off.

But Appa did something a bit strange. As he approached the ocean, the bison sprawled out and did a belly flop right into the water and began to swim.

"Um…Aang, is Appa okay?" Katara asked.

"I guess he's just tired," Aang suggested, petting Appa. "Aren't you, buddy?"

The bison groaned in response, swimming on.

"It's okay," Aang told Katara. "We aren't going very far."

Some familiar ice floes floated around Appa. Katara noticed this. "You know, Sokka used to go fishing around here."

"Did he?" Aang asked, mildly interested.

"He took me once. And I lost my temper after something he said," she told him.

He raised his eyebrows. "What'd you do?"

"I accidentally cracked an iceberg, and—" Then, she gasped.

Appa reached his destination: an enormous, cracked iceberg. This iceberg was the iceberg that held the Avatar for a century.

"This is where…this is where I found you," Katara breathed in awe.

"Yep. This is where we first met," Aang affirmed, smiling brightly.

"Oh, Aang, it's amazing!" She threw her arms around him.

He laughed a little. "Well…I'm glad you're so happy, but it's just a block of ice."

"I know," she said, her eyes watering a little. "But it brought me you…"' She nuzzled into Aang's chest. "…It brought me the most amazing boyfriend in the world, and that's why it's so special. Because of you."

"Merry Christmas, Katara," Aang said, kissing her on the forehead. "I love you."

She smiled. "I love you, too."
