Hey, everyone. Another pretty fast update, it's a freaking miracle! (Sadly, though, I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender. Oh, well. I'll liveā¦)
It wasn't every day that Aang could act like the kid he really was. But today's meeting had been cancelled due to Earth King Kuei having dehydration sickness. Which meant that the Avatar could relax, finally.
It was the hottest day in a long time in Ba Sing Se, so Aang had his shirt off. He was sitting in the grass of his backyard with a little bowl of liquid and a stick that had a loop on the end of it. He dipped the little loop in the liquid and then put it up to his face. A clear film coated the loop, at which Asng smiled. He blew, sending a multitude of little bubbles through the air. He laughed in delight.
When he was little, he blew bubbles all the time, until his elders took his soap and stick away and made him train. He and Monk Gyatso had always loved bubbles.
Though Aang was older now (because let's be honest, how many thirteen-year-olds do you ever see blowing bubbles?), his love for bubbles never faded. Bubbles had always amazed him, just because of how delicate they were and how beautiful they looked floating through the air. They were like free, happy spirits, at least to him. In fact, they even in a way reminded him of himself before he found out he was the Avatar.
At that thought, he frowned slightly and blew another round of bubbles.
Just then, he heard a familiar voice. "Aren't you hot?"
Aang turned to face Katara, who was standing on the back stoop. "Why yes, thank you for noticing." He smirked.
"Ha ha, you think you're so cute, don't you?" Katara asked, rolling her eyes and smirking in return.
"Maybe." He dipped the loop and blew through it once more aiming right at Katara.
"Hey!" she uttered, laughing and swiping at the bubbles. They all popped, and she wound up with bubble soap on her face. "What was that for?"
He shrugged, grinning. "I don't know."
She walked over and sat down next to him. "Aren't you a little old to be blowing bubbles?" she asked, nudging him teasingly.
"No," he replied. "I didn't know you could ever be old enough to blow bubbles." He blew some more.
A comfortable silence fell upon the two. Katara leaned her head on Aang's shoulder, watching him as he blew more bubbles for a few minutes.
Then, she got an idea. "Hey, Aang, stop blowing bubbles for a minute. I want to try."
He offered her his makeshift bubble wand, but she shook her head.
"No, no." She stood up and took a Waterbending stance as Aang watched in curiosity. Then, he caught on when she manipulated the liquid inside the bowl and formed a thin wall of bubble soap.
Aang smiled and sent a gust of air at the wall, forming hundreds of little bubbles floating through the air.
They both laughed as they watched the bubbles soar in the sky. Sunlight reflected through the bubbles, making them look like tiny, floating jewels. It was absolutely beautiful.
"That was great!" Katara said.
"But now all my bubble soap is gone," Aang replied with a small laugh. "Now what am I supposed to do?"
"Well, I'm going back inside," Katara declared. "It's too hot out here." She kissed him on the cheek and walked back into the house.
Aang was still a bit puzzled, though. He shook his head and smiled. "Too old for blowing bubbles?"
