Tournament of Roses
Third person POV
The morning light fell on Percy's face waking him. He slowly got up and rubbed his eyes and looked around and saw Kratos was already up and was reading a book.
Percy groggily asked
"What are you reading?"
"Oh, you are finally up. This is a book about Draugus, I went out early in the morning and found it in the library."
"Anything interesting?"
"A lot actually, But the main thing is we need to find some really good fighters here if we want to make it to the top".
"How dangerous is it going to be."
"According to this book on the journey up the mountain we will encounter several dangerous creatures but none can compare to the dragons at top of the mountain."
"Well looks like we have our work cut out for us."
"Now we need to buy you some clothes so you don't look out of place, how much money do you have."
"I am not sure what how much I have is worth."
"The main currency is silver drachmas. Then there are gold drachmas. One gold drachma is worth a thousand silver drachmas. Most of the items come under a hundred silver drachmas. A few more expensive items cost more than three hundred drachmas. So how much do you have?"
Percy smirked
"I have a lot of gold drachmas."
Percy really didn't want to explain how he got a bag full of unlimited gold drachmas.
"Alright then we should buy everything needed for the journey to Draugus like food water and supplies from here."
"How will we carry all of that?"
"The shop here sells magic items out of which one should be a bag which can carry and infinite number of items and still weigh like a normal empty bag."
"But what about my round in the tournament how much time do we have."
"I went early in in the morning, your round is the last one today, you will be facing someone called Galatea."
After that most of the morning was spent in shopping. Percy bought all the clothes he needed to fit in about five pairs. Then they bought around 20 canteens of water and a lot of different food.
All that only costed 4 gold drachmas. It surprised Percy how cheap all this was.
He was about to suggest buying a horse for the two of them, when he realised that Poseidon wasn't a god yet which meant horses didn't exist.
He really hates walking. He was also worried about the tournament. He didn't know which element to use.
According to Kratos most people could only master one element and
the really strong ones could master two.
If he used multiple elements he would draw unwanted attention.
His train of thought was broken when they reached a building with a wooden door with a symbol on it.
Kratos turned around and said
"This is Arcas's shop. He is an enchanter."
On seeing the clueless look on Percy's face, he said
"An enchanter is a person who gives common everyday items magical properties that is he knows runes. Now this is a small shop you might find a few good items here. But if you want very strong items you need to visit the cities or towns."
As they walked in Percy was half expecting to find a guy looking like Dumbledore.
But instead he saw a counter behind which a man was sitting. He was wearing green robes. He had dull yellow eyes. His hair was white and he had a short stubble.
He was carving something into a piece of wood.
As they reached the counter he looked up gave a big grin and said
"Ah customers, what is it you want."
He looked up from his carving than looking at the two said
"Which one of you wants to buy an item"
Kratos indicated towards Percy.
Arcas looked at Percy and said
"What do you need".
"Um firstly I need a bag which can fit in a big number of things and be easy to carry."
As Percy said that Arcas started writing on a piece of paper
"Then I need a few flame-resistant charms."
Percy knew that while he would not have a problem with the flames his companions would be hurt or killed by flames of a dragon.
"I need a pair of boots to sneak around and finally I also need an enchanted map which shows my location."
"Are you going to be here for the duration of the tournament?"
"Yes. Why?"
"I have the bag and the flame-resistant charms. But I don't have the rest of the items. I will ask a friend of mine who is coming from the city to bring them. You will have all the items by the end of the tournament."
"So how much will it cost me."
"Twenty gold drachmas. Five now the rest when you get the items."
Percy handed him the advance and he and Kratos headed back to their lodgings.
When they got there Percy saw a black ring and a black wristband on his bed and a note.
He opened the note and read
Tap the black ring for a sword.
The black band for Armor.
Ps: Dad said to use shadows for this tournament
The note was signed Erebus.
Percy was happy that he had one headache less.
He looked at Kratos and said
"Since there is time I am going to see one of the fights going on right now."
Kratos nodded and so Percy left.
Percy walked to the town centre where the competition was, the competition was to be held on a large circular platform.
Around the platform after some distance there were elevated rectangular platforms on which spectators could stand and watch the tournament.
The platforms were also arranged in a circular fashion, concentric to the fighting platform.
There were two divisions in the platforms on either side of the circle
These were the gates. It was through which the fighters would enter.
Percy climbed up the platform. Luckily there weren't many people so he could go all the way to the front and get a clear view.
Just as he got to the railing the gates on both sides opened.
It seemed like a fight was just about to start.
At first, he couldn't make out what the two looked like.
But once they got on the platform he could make It out clearly.
One was male and the other female.
The man was about six and a half feet tall. Percy could not make his physique. He was wearing a golden coloured armour. His helmet on the other hand was completely silver with a black plume.
The helmet covered most of his face only his eyes were visible. There was a thin slit in the middle which Percy assumed was for breathing.
His pupils were pitch black and there were taking in all the surroundings trying to grasp at any advantage he could.
The woman facing him was kind of his opposite when it came to her physique. She was short and was lithe.
Her armour was your normal bronze armour but with strips of gold in a zig zag pattern which Percy thought was more than just a fashion statement.
Unlike her opponent she was carrying a dagger with a red hilt in each hand.
She was also not wearing a helmet. Her hair was black and she had golden piercing eyes.
After a minute of tense staring at each other. The woman rushed ahead with such incredible speed she was a blur.
In the split second after the woman ran he thought the man was a goner.
But astonishingly as the lady came close he disappeared and appeared at the other end.
It happened so fast that now she was basically slashing her daggers at thin air.
The man charged but the she just managed to parry. He stabbed again with his sword again the woman raised a dagger to protect herself for the swing of his sword.
But as soon as the sword touched the dagger the woman yelped in pain and fell on the ground.
That's when Percy realized that the sword must have electric current like Clarisse's spear.
Before the woman could recover the man held the sword in reverse and swung it like a bat at the woman.
The hilt hit the woman square in the head and she collapsed and just like that the fight was over.
The crowd cheered and two men in robes came and carried the woman away. The man simply walked of the stage.
Percy walked toward the entrance of the ground because he knew his fight was next.
As he was walking towards the entrance he tapped the ring and the black armour expanded over his body.
The helmet too just expanded around his face.
He then tapped the band and a sword sprung into his hand.
He entered the arena through the door.
He went up on the stage.
He looked at his opponent as he walked towards him.
It was a man but he was neither bulky or small.
He had an average build.
The armour he was wearing though was silver in colour and also had full sleeves which made him very heavily armoured.
He wasn't wearing a helmet. He had blond hair and red eyes.
He also had a broken nose.
The fight started as both men circled each other.
The man said
"My name is Zethis what is yours?"
"My name is Perseus."
"Very well Perseus it is an honour to fight you."
"Likewise,"
Saying that the man charged.
Initially Percy just parried looking for chinks in the heavy armour.
Then Zethis suddenly swirled around and tried hitting Percy from the other side.
If Percy wasn't experienced the fight would have been over then and there.
He barely managed to parry it.
But in this process in a split-second Percy saw that at the backside the armour had two points where it looked brittle.
The question was how to attack there.
Percy then went on the offensive quickly launching as many strikes as he could.
But to his frustration Zethis parried each blow.
Zethis than thrust his sword into the earth and from that point earthen spikes rose in a row and started moving towards Percy.
Percy quickly dodged and used the shadows to use Zethis own shadows to trip him and pull him down.
When he did that all cheering stopped and there was pin drop silence.
Percy didn't know what was going on but he didn't have time to ponder as Zethis rose up.
He charged towards Percy but he manged to move out of the way and stabbed his sword in Zethis's back the sword hit the point.
Zethis howled in pain.
He turned towards Percy with rage in his eyes.
He raised his hand and the entire stage started moving.
Earthen hands rose around Percy and were mimicking Zethis's hands.
He then smashed them both on Percy.
Percy pulled the shadows around him and made a shield the hands smashed harmlessly off the shield.
After the dust settled he looked at Zethis to see him completely exhausted.
That move must have taken a lot out of him.
He then used his shadow to encase his entire body except for his face.
Making it so that he couldn't move. It was easier since he was exhausted.
He then used the hilt of his sword to knock him out and win the fight.
As he walked out there was just silence no cheering like for the victor of the previous fight.
He didn't stay to find out because he too was really tired.
He walked to his room.
He opened the door and retracted his armour and weapon.
As he turned around he saw Kratos with his sword pointed at Percy's neck.
LINE BREAK
In a clearing in the middle of the forest there appeared to be three figures.
The first was a man wearing heavy black armour and a mask which made it impossible for anyone to see any features of his face.
The next figure was a woman in black robes wearing the same mask as the man.
The final figure was a man in a colourful tunic tied behind them.
In the centre of the clearing was a 20-foot pillar with a lot of inscriptions.
The tied man said," Who are you to kidnap e do you know who my father is. Who do you think you are to just barge into my village.
What do you think you own this world?"
The man walked to the pillar put his hand on it and started murmuring something in an unknown language.
The woman just chuckled and replied to the man,
"This world doesn't belong to us but neither does it belong to you people, it belongs to something yet to come."
Suddenly the pillar started glowing and five black wisps came out and all entered the tied man's body.
The pillar immediately crumbled.
The man started seizing and then slowly increased in size till he was a twelve feet tall mass of pure muscle.
The woman said something in the same unknown language and pointed toward the cart.
The creature went to the cart and took out a black massive axe.
Then it just walked out into the forest.
Wherever it stepped the plants and the soil became black.
The man in black armour then turned to the women and said
"One down six to go."
