One more update and then I need to update my other story, but people wanted to see Kristina's birth and stuff surrounding that.
With the holidays finally over and out of the way, put away in boxes, Beca looked forward to her time off from the office and from producing as she waited for their third…and final child Beca pointed out often…to be born. Luisa still worked during the day and was saving her time off for the time after the baby was born when she would take her maternity leave. All that to say, Beca was almost through the end of her 8th month of pregnancy and surprisingly this one had been smooth sailing from the beginning. They knew they were having another girl and they were not secretive this time about sharing that news with their friends and family. Beca did have any of the negative pregnancy symptoms and all her checkups had confirmed that mommy and baby were doing great. That should have been the first sign that something was going to surprise them, but both women were too happy to think about what could be around the corner.
Beca's due date was somewhere between the last days of February and the beginning of March. She knew this meant she had to make a choice of whether or not to attend award shows during her last month of pregnancy. Beca had originally thought that it was best not to tempt fate and go to the Grammys when her due date was a matter of days away, but then she got nominated for several awards and then her tune changed. Luisa promised to support either decision Beca made, but pointed out that if they went to the award show Beca needed to take it easy. So, on the third weekend of February Beca was in her bedroom getting ready with her team of make-up and hair people. Luisa was downstairs briefing Chloe on the kids' bedtimes since she would be watching them both for the night as she and Beca would not be home till late.
"Make sure that they do their chores before bed please, Johanna thinks the laundry fairy folds her clothes these days and Aubrey does not like picking up his room." She detailed bedtime routines and Chloe laughed.
"I have watched your kids often enough to know how to put them to bed, plus I have my own two monsters so I know how to make them do chores so relax. I will take good care of them and you just enjoy the ceremony."
"I can't relax. I should've told Beca to tell them no we couldn't come because of the baby. What if something happens?" Chloe put her hands on Luisa's shoulders. "Everything will be fine and if something happens then we will deal with it. Besides, Aubrey was born on the side of a highway in a rainstorm, I doubt this baby can top that." Luisa laughed because, seriously, how could this baby make any more of a dramatic entrance than her brother did. Luisa straightened her tie and smoothed her suit, having chosen to wear a suit instead of a dress and she watched Beca come down the stairs with her stylist holding her hand and helping her keep balance on the stairs. She reached the bottom and rubbed her belly over the beautiful dress that had been designed with her pregnancy in mind, so it conformed to her belly, but allowed her to breathe.
"Ready to go love?" Luisa nodded and pointed outside the house. "The limo is ready when we are. You sure you are feeling up for this?"
"Positive. Let's get going. Traffic is going to be terrible when we get there." They kissed the kids, bid Chloe goodnight and loaded into the limo. Beca was right, the traffic near the theater was insane. When they exited the limo the cameras started going off and Beca's name was being called. They walked the red carpet and Beca posed for as many photos as she could stomach before her back was killing her. Luisa led her into the theater with her arm wrapped around her waist. Beca greeted other artists and producers as they made their way to their seats. In past years she had been nominated for producer awards, but this year her label produced an album of Beca's work so this year she was up for several awards.
They settled into their seats and when the show began Beca tried to distract herself by texting Chloe to check in on the kids. They watched a few performances including one by an artist Beca produced which allowed her to have a proud moment. When they got to the producer award, they panned the camera around to all the nominees and Beca smiled, genuinely proud of her achievements, but underneath the smile was an exhausted woman who just wanted to be in her bed. When they announced the winner it came as a surprise to almost no one that it was Beca's name that got called. Her wife helped her to her feet and ignored the production manager who wanted her to stay in her seat and instead she walked her wife to the stage and an usher helped her up the steps to the main stage. She made her speech, thanking all the people that worked so hard on her projects with her and of course mentioning her wife and her kids. When Beca returned from the press room she looked tired and Luisa looked worried.
"We really should go home maus, you look dead on your feet." Beca waved her wife off. "I am fine and there is no way in hell I'm winning album of the year so I think I'll be sitting the rest of the evening. Luisa wanted to push more, but she promised Beca that she would support her decisions regarding tonight. About 45 minutes later they finally got to the album category and Beca forced another smile when the camera got to her. To the rest of the world it looked real, but Luisa knew that underneath it was a woman who was fast running out of energy. Luisa was about to say something when they were interrupted by Beca's name being called for the award. The look on both their faces was priceless and the news seemed to give Beca a burst of energy to stand up, kiss her wife and return to the stage. She held the trophy and smiled as she looked out at the audience.
"I truly did not expect to win this award this evening: not with the competition that I was up against. I'd like to thank all my fans who have made this an unforgettable year and who made this album so successful. I'd like to thank my label for giving me a chance to work inside the booth for a change. There are a lot of other people who deserve to have their name being said up here, but I need to thank my wife who has put up with long nights, crazy hours and a cranky, pregnant woman for most of the last year." As people laughed, Beca felt a very familiar pain radiate through her body and she flinched slightly, but Luisa could see it from her seat and she half stood up from her seat knowing something was wrong. Beca recovered and finished yet another Grammy speech with something that no one would soon forget.
"And finally, I would like to thank my children, Johanna, Aubrey and this little girl in here who is informing me that I need to get to the hospital and soon because apparently not only did I get engaged at the Grammys, I needed to go into labor here as well. So, thank you again and with that I think I should head to the hospital now." The applause was loud, as was the laughter because even Beca had to admit it was more than a little funny. Luisa met her at the stairs and with two ushers helping her, she helped Beca slowly come down from the stage. Beca's security detail for the evening stood two steps behind Luisa, now holding both Grammys as he called the limo to meet them out front ASAP. Celebrities from all genres stopped Beca on their way out to wish her luck and congratulate her and Beca being Beca, she slowed down to accept the praise, all the while being in an increasing amount of pain. Security personnel helped her get outside, away from the cameras and they all waited there for the limo to pull up.
"And here I was thinking the ginger snap was right and nothing could top Aubrey's birth. I guess her majesty has other ideas." Luisa rubbed Beca's belly and smiled, making Beca relax a little in the process.
"I would have been very happy if just one of our kids allowed me to have a drama free delivery, but no: Jojo was a C-section, Aubrey was born on the highway and this kid made me go into labor on national TV in front of the who's who of music."
"She wanted her moment in the spot light ja?"
"Well she got it. Now let's get to the hospital before two of our children has the distinction of being born in a car." The limo pulled up and Beca was helped inside with Luisa quickly joining her and their security detail getting in the front seat. The hospital was not far, but the traffic was still thick, but it was moving. In the 20 minutes it took to get to the hospital Beca's phone was blowing up: between phone calls, texts, tweets and everything else her phone was constantly vibrating. She finally answered the phone when she saw Chloe's name pop up on the screen.
"Hey Chloe, how are the kids?"
"You have got to be kidding me! Tell me you are joking and you didn't just go into labor on national TV."
"We are almost to the hospital now, I am deadly serious." Chloe could be heard squealing through the phone at Beca's answer.
"This is too perfect, you guys have legit broken the internet. Twitter is blowing up about you, between winning two Grammys and then the baby stealing your thunder, you are trending big time my friend."
"Thanks for keeping things in perspective Chloe, we will put the funniest tweets in the baby book. Any chance you could stay with the kids for now? We want you guys here with us, but we really need someone to stay with the kids in case this takes a long time."
"Of course I'll stay with them. If it gets late I'll take them over to Aubrey's or my house and make one of our husbands watch them and we will come help you guys."
"You rock Chloe. Tell the kids we will call when we get into our room at the hospital ok?"
"You got it mama. Good luck." Beca hung up with Chloe and looked out the window to see that they were a few blocks from the hospital and she felt a sense of relief that they would soon be getting settled into a hospital room and her third child would not be born inside a car like her brother had been. When the limo stopped in front of the emergency room Beca could see a small group of paparazzi who must've all split up and hit every hospital within 20 miles of the theater. The security detail got out of the car first and with the help of a few police officers he held the cameras back enough that Luisa was able to get Beca out of the car and into a wheelchair, quickly running her inside the hospital.
They didn't stay in the ER long since they were transferred to the labor and delivery department where they were put into a private room and Beca was finally able to change out of her gown and into a hospital gown. Luisa texted Aubrey and Chloe and asked for them to bring Beca's bag from the house when they came and to bring her a change of clothes when they did because for now she was stuck in the suit she had worn for the evening. They spent some time filling out paperwork and getting more settled into the room and eventually the doctor came in to greet them and check on Beca's progress. Their doctor worked out of another hospital, but the doctor on call had worked with her several times in the past so both women felt as though they were in good hands. After a few hours of contractions Beca had progressed to roughly half way through her labor. When visiting hours were long over Luisa saw the door to Beca's room open slightly and saw Chloe stick her head in.
"How'd you'd convince them to let you in past visiting hours?"
"I brought reinforcements." Chloe stepped in the room and Aubrey came in behind her wearing a proud smirk.
"Ah, you brought the pit bull, that's why they let you in."
"What can I say? I am very persuasive when I threaten people with lawsuits." Aubrey held up a bag and handed it to Luisa. "Brought you a set of real clothes to change into and Chloe has Beca's go bag so I think we brought everything."
"And the kids?" Luisa started changing as she spoke, not caring who was watching.
"They are at Chloe's house for a slumber party and they are very excited about the new baby."
"Speaking of which, how is the diva doing?"
"She's not a diva Chloe, she just has impeccable timing. I have to tell myself that or admit that my kid upstaged me at the Grammys."
"Oh, she did and I was serious about you trending. Twitter is pretty much only talking about you, so I think she beat Aubrey's birth story." Beca had something witty to say on the tip of her tongue, but it died when she felt another contraction hit her, causing her to grip the bedrail until her knuckles turned white.
"In all seriousness Beca, is there anything we can do?"
Beca breathed through her pain and nodded her head. "Find a way to get the paparazzi out of our hair. Go threaten them with your lawsuits. We already had to double my security since we got here." Aubrey left the room to see who's head she had to bite off to get the cameras to go away. The doctor came in and checked in with Beca, telling her that she would likely be fully dilated within the next two hours. Luisa tried to distract Beca with music or watching TV since Beca refused to try and sleep. When Aubrey returned from her journey to scare away the cameras, Beca was almost totally dilated so they were preparing her to be moved into a delivery room. Beca FaceTimed with the kids before they were told to go to bed and they could meet their sister in the morning. Beca was then quickly wheeled out of the room and before Lusia followed her she turned to Aubrey and Chloe.
"You two are ok here alone? One of you can be in there with us if you want."
Aubrey shook her head, "we'll be fine. We will text everyone updates and check on the kids, you go and focus on Beca and the baby." The German nodded and walked out of the room, leaving Aubrey and Chloe in the room. Aubrey made good on her promise with her and Chloe texting the Bellas and everyone else who mattered to the couple.
"Never thought I'd see a more dramatic labor and delivery than I did when Aubrey was born." Chloe nodded at her friend's comment.
"To be fair, the delivery is very tame and is at least in a hospital. However, making your mom go into labor at the Grammys while she is on stage is something this kid will never live down."
Aubrey and Chloe checked in on the kids who were asleep and after about an hour the door opened and Luisa stepped in with a big smile on her face and a small bundled of blankets in her arms. Chloe and Aubrey jumped to their feet and pulled back the blanket to see the beautiful baby girl who had interrupted the music industry's biggest night.
"She's perfectly healthy, ten fingers and toes, strong heart."
"And Beca?" Luisa nodded and smiled, "she did beautifully as always and she is fine. They are just cleaning her up and they'll bring her in. Would one of you like to hold her?" Chloe stepped forward and let Luisa hand her the infant.
"And what is this little one's name?"
"Kristina. We're thinking about Waverly for a middle name." Aubrey snort laughed at the name, "wow, Beca really went for the gay Gold with that middle name huh?"
"Hey, it's a good show and good character and I happen to think its perfect. It suits her." Aubrey took the baby from Chloe and smiled.
"Well then, welcome to the world Kristina Waverly Mitchell, the only baby to be born with two Grammys in the room."
Extra points for people who know where that middle name is from.
