A/N-This story is not over by a long shot. I plan to write them through their second term. This is about their rise. In doing so I plan to use real life events, and how I see the couple handling it. I'll be honest it is how I wish our current administration would handle these situations. These are my opinions, and like those reading I am entitled to mine like you are entitled to yours. If you don't like what you read then I respect that this or all my stories are not for you. Most of my remaining stories are AU so politics are not a factor, but this one does have political tones. Read at your own discretion.
Fitz was excited that his wife was headed home. He wasn't sure who missed her more him or the kids. As much as he missed his wife he did the enjoy moments where the kids relied on him. He knew how people felt about him being President. He knew how much power he held now, and in the future. What most people didn't know or understand is that none of it meant anything if his wife and children weren't happy. He had almost died to get to the point where he was now, and if he had to do it again he would.
He had planned to greet Olivia when she landed, but an emergency required his attention in the Situation Room, but she did text him when she made it to the Residence to let him know she was home.
He ended up working till close to midnight before he could head to the Residence. Whenever he got in this late he would always check on the kids first before making it to his room.
He was so excited to see his wife. He walked in their room expecting her to be sitting in the bed on her computer, but was surprised to see her laying on the sofa bundled up in clothes.
When he walked over to the couch he saw a box of tissues. He leaned down and caressed her cheek. When she opened her eyes Fitz's heart broke a little. He hated when his family was sick especially his wife. He knew she was excited to finally be over the morning sickness. Now the traveling had taken its toll.
He knew she was sick when she didn't complain when he picked her up, and took her in the bathroom. Once he set her in the lukewarm bath he looked at her, "How long have you been sick?"
"I didn't feel good when I woke up this morning. I thought it was morning sickness at first except I didn't get sick. I just felt awful. By the time I got home I was drained. Jerry & Karen saw me, and thought between the baby and travel I was just exhausted. I did too for that matter. I played with Ayden for a while, but as time passed I felt worse. The kids took care of their brother, and sent me to bed. I thought I would catch a nap, and feel better by the time you got finished. That never happened. I wasn't keeping anything from you."
"I know baby. I just hate when you are sick, and I am stuck in a room with no way to take care of you."
"You are always taking care of me. Even after working non-stop you take care of me like you are now. That is why I love you so much. You are so loving and compassionate. I know that you haven't had much rest between work, and the kids. I can call Quinn."
"No, you are my wife. I am going to call the doctor just to make sure it is just the flu, and get you some medicine that is good for you and the baby. I know sometimes being the President comes first, but whenever I have a choice I am going to always choose you and our family. I need you to really believe that."
She looked at her husband. She knew that this second term was on his terms. He was finally getting to be the President he wanted to be, but he was also living the personal life he always wanted. When he was married to Mellie it was easy to choose his obligations of being President over her, but not with them. She could tell that he was struggling internally with this, and when she was better she would talk to him.
She leaned into him, and let him take care of her. She knew he would think that it had to do with her being sick. That was a small part of it. She didn't have the energy to fight, but the bigger part of her was that she wanted her husband to understand that he was the man of the house. She respected that, and even when he couldn't be there with her she needed him and wanted him. She loved him enough to allow him to fulfill his dream without making him feel guilty.
For the next three days, he nursed her back to health while fulfilling his duties as President. He only allowed others to help when he was in meetings or had functions to attend that he could not get out of.
Olivia had to admit that it felt nice to have her husband to take care of her. It warmed her heart to know that he had put her needs first, and he found a way to be husband and President without either having to be fully scarified.
She was excited to be feeling better so she could get back to work, but she could also be around the kids without the fear of getting them sick. The additional days were hard on her since she had been out of town, and to come back and not be able to hug and kiss them hurt her.
Ayden was obviously very happy to get love from his mother. Olivia smiled when he ran into their room in front of his dad, and used the steps to climb onto the bed.
Olivia giggled as she watched him make his way over to her. She can't recall a time when he had ever hugged her so tightly, and she could tell how much he missed her.
She kissed his forehead, "Did you sleep good last night?"
He nodded, "Daddy read and sang to me. Not as good as you mommy. I miss you."
"Mommy missed you too so much, but daddy was here and your sister and brother. I am sure they took great care of you, didn't they?"
Ayden nodded, "My bruther Jerry played games with me, and my sissy cooked me some really yummy cookies. She said you showed her how to make them.
Olivia smiled, "Did you save me any?"
Ayden shook his head no, "They were too gud mommy…"
Fitz & Olivia laughed.
Ayden put his hands-on Olivia's stomach. He looked at her stomach that had the very noticeable baby bump.
He got really quiet, "Baby in there."
Olivia nodded, "Yes, your brother or sister is in there."
He didn't say anything.
Olivia put her hands through his curls, "You know how Jerry is your big brother, and Karen is your big sister and they help mommy and daddy take care of you."
He nodded
"Well when the baby comes you will be their big brother, and mommy and daddy will need you to help us take care of them."
He looked at Olivia, "Really…"
She nodded.
Once he put the pieces together in his little mind he was as happy as can be. He wasn't being pushed aside.
Fitz needed moments like this before he headed down to the oval to make tough decisions. He went over to the closet to grab his tie.
Olivia had turned on the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and Ayden was no longer paying either of them any attention.
She got up and went over to the closet, and grabbed the tie out of his hand and grabbed another one. She knew he did this on purpose, and she didn't care. She enjoyed moments like this with him.
As she tied his tie she said, "Thank you again for taking care of me. I know I am your wife, but I don't take for granted that you juggled your schedule for me. I know of women whose husbands have less demanding jobs that don't do what you did. That is why I am saying thank you and I love you, and I know you have a jam-packed day to try and catch up. Take care of yourself and make good decisions. Know that I love you, and I'll be waiting for you when you get home."
He leaned down and shared a loving and passionate kiss with his wife. He pulled back and caressed her cheek, "These are the days I dreamed of for us. Thank you for being my first lady."
She looked him in the eye, "You are welcome. Thank you for being the man that I voted for."
Fitz had a productive day. He didn't really have any free time, but Olivia made sure that his favorites meals were sent throughout the day. Her and the kids would send him short video messages telling him they loved him or were thinking about him.
It was almost midnight when he could head up for the night. As usual he checked on the kids before heading to their bedroom. He expected Olivia to be asleep. It was also her first full day back in the office. He knew she had a couple of meetings, and she kept Ayden with her the whole day.
When he walked in the door he was surprised to find that his wife was not only awake, but laying on their bed naked.
She didn't say a word. She simply called him over with her finger. Fitz didn't know where this side of his wife came from, but he wasn't about to complain.
As he made his way over to the bed he stripped out of his clothes. By the time he made it to the bed his only had his boxers on.
He climbs on the bed, "What's going on Livvie?"
"My man has been taking care of me, and tonight I want to take care of him. His needs have been put aside, and tonight I want him sated and taken care of…Now take off your clothes."
Fitz wasn't sure when or how he removed his clothes so quickly, but next thing he knew he was in the bed with his wife straddling him.
Damn
(Doo doo doo)
Baby, I want you
"I love you Fitz, and I need you to know that I appreciate everything that you do for me. I never want you to feel like another woman especially your wife is taking advantage of you. I am going to make love to you tonight dear husband."
Woah
Here we are,
All alone in this room (ooh)
And girl I know,
Where to start and what we're gonna dooo
I'll take my time
We'll be all night girl
So get ready babe,
I got plans for me and you (wooah)
"Put your hands above your head…"
Fitz smirked, but did as he was told.
Olivia began to kiss him all over his chest. Fitz was enjoying her tonguing his nipples that he never noticed her hands made their way down south. She began to fist his cock.
He threw his head to the side and groaned.
Olivia leaned over and whispered in his ear, "I love you. You are my world, and there is nothing I wouldn't do for you. I am so glad to be by your side. I am glad to finally be your First Lady…"
She then began to nibble on his neck, and she hit that spot behind his ear that she knew turned him on.
It ain't my first time but babygurl we can pretend (hey! )
Lets bump and grind
Gurl, tonight will never end
Bump and grind seemed like the right words to use.
She kissed the tip of his cock before licking each side like it was a lollipop. When she heard him grunt she knew she had him right where she wanted him.
She slowly took him in her mouth inch by inch. She couldn't get all of him, but she got most of him. She began to bob her head taking his cock like it was a sucker while massaging his balls like they were a stress reliever.
She heard him whispering "Fuck" like it was a new mantra, and it did something for her ego. To know that she could get her man off especially pregnant made her feel even better. She didn't stop until his semen coated the back of her throat, and she took it all with pride.
Let me take you down
I really wanna take you down
And show you what I'm about
Can I take you now,
Ya body body ooh
Your body body up and dooown
So don't stop
Girl get it
Quit playin' wit it
Can't waaait nooo mooore
I wanna take you down
I really wanna take you down,
Take you down (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
She sat up and climbed back on his lap. He sat up and took one her nipples in his mouth.
She wanted to take care of her husband, but she knew the only way he would be truly satisfied is if he could touch her and take care of her too.
She moved two of his fingers to her pussy, and he gladly slid them in like they were home. She threw her head to the side loving the feelings that her husband gave her.
Fitz had enjoyed everything that his wife had done for him, but Olivia was everything. As powerful as she was she allowed him to be a man. He was the head of their household, and that is why he would always treasure her for the queen that she was. He appreciated what she had planned tonight, but he wouldn't be completely happy unless he took care of her too.
Pretty girl let's take it off,
In this roooom
No time to waist
Girl you know what we came to dooooo (woahawoahawoah)
We got all night to try to get it right girl
(Hope ya ready, hope ya ready, hope ya ready)
I hope ya ready babe,
Cuz here we go,
We know how we do (hoooo)
He whispered in her ear, "Sit on my face…"
Olivia looked at him. Sure, he had done this before, but not when she was pregnant. She looked at him to make sure, and he simply nodded.
She slowly moved forward.
Fitz said, "Grab onto the headboard…"
Once Olivia grabbed the headboard it was game on. Fitz dove in straight for her clit like a man starved.
It ain't my first time but babygurl we can pretend (hey! )
Lets bump and grind
Gurl, tonight will never end
Let me take you down
I really wanna take you down
And show you what I'm about
Can I take you now,
Ya body body ooh
Your body body up and dooown
So don't stop
Girl get it
Quit playin' wit it
Can't waaait nooo mooore
Olivia screamed, "Ahh fuck baby…too much…too good…don't stop…Fuck…Fuck…Fuck"
Olivia never felt pleasure like this until she met her husband, but tonight it was a new kind of pleasure. One she couldn't explain.
He wouldn't let up.
She banged her hand against headboard as her husband continued to inflict pleasure on her. She wasn't sure what she enjoyed more his tongue or his fingers, but she didn't have time to figure it out before an orgasm racked her body.
She took a moment to compose herself before sliding back down…
I wanna take you down
I really wanna take you down,
Take you down (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Your
Freakin' now baby
Like a pro baby
And I bet that you
(I bet you woahawoaha)
Think you know baby
Like a pro baby
So what ya wanna do?
I'm gonna take it down baby nice and slow
So bring it let's go
Baby! (baby, baby)(yeah, yeah)
(Baby, baby, baby)
Come on baby, come on baby
Let me taaaaake
Let me take you down (you down!)
I really wanna take you down
(Let me show you)
(Let me do it to you like I wanna do)
She leaned into her husband, and began to kiss him.
Both tasting each other was turning them on even more.
As much as they enjoyed making love to each other this is what they loved even more. Kissing each other. Their kisses said so much.
She finally pulled back and looked at her husband. When he looked into her eyes he gasped.
He never understood when people would say they fell more in love with their partner the longer they were together. He now understood what they meant. Tonight, was one of those nights where he could physically feel his love for his wife grow.
She caressed his cheek as she slid down on his cock.
Woahhh
Can I take you now,
Ya body body(woah)ya body body body up and down
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
So don't stop girl get it,
Quit playin' wit it
Can't wait no more(i can't wait no more)
They both moaned on contact. As they looked into each other's eyes they smiled. They were home.
She leaned over and began to nibble on his ear. She heard him sigh, and that made her smile.
I wanna take you down,
I really wanna take you down
Take you down (yeah)
Take you down
(Woah, woah)I said I wanna take you down (babe, yeah)
Let me take you down
(take you)
Take you (all the way) down
All the way down
We can do some things (on the way down)
Take you down (woah, woah)
She whispered, "I love you…"
"You are my everything…"
"I don't want to know what life without you is like..."
"You own me…"
"You control me…"
"You are the love of my life…"
That was it. Those words took them both over the edge, and Fitz held onto her as they both tried to calm themselves down.
They decided to take a shower where they engaged in another passion filled loving making session. After getting dressed they climbed in the bed sated and satisfied.
Fitz looked at his wife, "Thank you…"
"Anytime…"
"Not just for tonight. When I dreamed of you being my first lady it was all of this and more. With you I feel like a real man that accomplish and do anything I want. When it feels like it is too much I know I can come home to you. I know that you will have my back, and I never have to worry about you walking all over me. I know you hold just as much power as me if not more, but I love that you never use it against me. That we can be that ultimate power couple, and do great things for the country and world while still respecting each other, our marriage, and family. That is why it is so easy to take care of you. Why you are my world, and my everything. I know you have made a lot of sacrifices for me, and I want you to know that I appreciate it. I don't take it for granted. I love you so much, and I love being your husband. In sickness and in health."
He wiped the tears from her eyes. She leaned up and kissed him, "I love you too baby so much. I am just glad that we are at this place."
"Me too. Let's get some rest."
It was the weekend. Fitz had to fly to California for a meeting. Olivia was visiting schools in the local area supporting the arts programs.
Fitz was not updated on every protest that happens just the ones that may impact a state or the country in some manner. He was midflight back to the Washington when his team notified him of the protest that were taking place in Charlottesville, Virginia. There was some concern that the protests were getting out hand.
Fitz spoke with the President at the University of Virginia who assured him that the students were safe. They had cancelled classes for the remainder of the weekend, and sent notifications out to the students and staff by email.
Meanwhile at the White House Olivia was sitting in her office also receiving an update from her staff about the protest. As she looked at her televisions her gut was telling her that things were about to go left.
Fitz arrived back at the White House. He headed straight for his wife's office. He saw her staff packing up, but they knew they would be back early.
Fitz stopped Quinn, "I think we all know that we have a long weekend ahead of us. Take everyone to Blair House. I have already instructed my team that you are headed over there."
"Yes sir…"
"Here is my personal credit card. Make sure that everyone gets anything they need especially food and toiletries. I don't need you to run anything by me."
Quinn nodded and made her way to Blair House.
Fitz walked in and saw his pregnant wife pacing in front of the television. Now he knew what she looked like when she was in her office at OPA. It was a sight to behold.
After a few seconds, she looked up at him and smiled. He opened his arms, and she gladly walked into them. They enjoyed each other for a moment.
She looked at him, "I have a bad feeling."
"Me too…"
"I know that racism still exists, but I don't think I am prepared for this. This is what my ancestors worked so hard for. How did we get back to this place where the color of your skin or your orientation mattered this much? More importantly what has happened that made people believe they can do or say anything to people. This is scary."
"I agree Liv. Maybe this is on me. I have always been a Republican, and never questioned our values and beliefs until after I met you. I realized then that it is not about the party. It is about the people, and that no matter what party affiliation you are it is about the people. I thought when I made the decision to divorce Mellie, and marry you that our country could see progression, but I was wrong. I realized on my way home that I have never really stepped up and formally denounced racism. I thought my actions were enough. Maybe that is why people feel like they can do this, but I can't allow that to happen. I must work to make this country better. Not only for the country, but for our children. Our children need to know when they get older that I wasn't afraid to jump in the fire. They need to know that I stood up for them. It could tarnish my legacy, but if my children don't feel I went to bat for them they what good is a legacy."
Olivia was struck by how passionate her husband was, but more importantly she was humbled by him in this moment. Not for one moment did she feel like this was on her husband's shoulders. The truth is they had all gotten lax. Believing that those before them had fixed the problem of racism for the most part. The truth was that what they fixed was people being able to be openly racist. Racism was alive and well in so many forms, but it wasn't bluntly obvious until recently. They had a chance to make real change in the coming years. It may not always be pretty, but she agreed with her husband that for the sake of their children and future generations it would be worth it.
Olivia looked at her husband, "I don't think that this is squarely on you, but we won't argue that point. All we can do is move forward, and I agree we must stand up and create real change. We are going to create real change, and your children will be proud of you. The fact that we are having this conversation says a lot."
The couple walked upstairs to check on the kids. Karen and Ayden were sleep, but Jerry was glued to the television.
Fitz sat beside his son, "Are you okay?"
He nodded, "Yes, but I am also sad. Because of the color of my skin, and the fact that I was born into a privileged family means I will never be looked down on. How sad is that?"
"Very sad son, but I feel like I didn't do too bad if you are aware that our problems pales in comparison to most."
"Well I have you and mom to thank for that. I can't be a politician like you dad, but I want to be an activist. I want to use my name and platform to create change."
"Your mom and I support your decision. You know that."
"Even if it means speaking in support of change."
"Yes, but I think you will be surprised. We might agree more than you know. Let's get through this, and we will talk more. If we find that we are on the opposite end of the spectrum then we will discuss how to handle without you feeling like you are being silenced."
"I can do that. I love you both so much."
"We love you too…"
Before they walked out Jerry called Fitz. He turned around. Jerry said, "Mom has come in and done a great job shaping us. She gave us the motherly love and guidance that we so desperately needed, but dad you have always been a great dad. I have friends who have parents who have less demanding jobs that don't spend any time with their kids. You are responsible for a whole country, and you still make time for us."
Olivia smiled because the timing could not have been better. She knew that she had just had a similar conversation with her husband, but it meant more hearing it from the kids.
The couple took a shower together, and changed into more comfortable clothing before heading back down to the Oval where they enjoyed dinner.
As Olivia, suspected things did get worse. The protest got out of hand, and injuries occurred. The worst took place when an individual plowed into a group of protesters that believed all lives mattered especially black lives.
The couple were notified that there was more than thirty injured, and one young woman lost her life. The White House was notified of the young woman's name before it was released to the media. Shortly after notification had been made with the mother the couple called, and offered their condolences. They also insisted on privately paying for her funeral. It would not be released to the public. This was not about ratings. A young woman was brave, and stood up for what was right. For that the cost was her life.
Fitz was headed to New York for a meeting that he could not get out of. He advised Abby that he would speak before the meeting.
Olivia had left to pack his bag while he was getting briefed by his team, and working on his speech. By the time he made it to the Residence Olivia had packed his bag.
He walked over and she held him. She was his safe place, and although a speech was being prepared it felt wrong.
Olivia finally pulled back. He looked at her, "You are going to the funeral aren't you."
She nodded, "I have to…"
"I would not expect anything less from you."
"Thank you for understanding."
"There is nothing to understand Livvie."
She nodded.
As he walked away she said, "Show them who you are…"
He turned and looked at her for a moment. She knew he was torn on what to say, and what was appropriate. Now was not the time to sound formal, but at the same token he still had a country to run.
He simply nodded.
On his way to New York he watched a video that showed the driver plowing into the crowd, and it was more graphic than the one being played on televisions, computers, and laptops.
They quickly made it to the hotel where the meeting would be held. The press was everywhere waiting on Fitz to give his first official statement about the protest and the young woman who lost her life.
As he made it to the podium and looked out at the crowd his mind went to the accident. In the front row was a young blond reporter that reminded him of the woman and his daughter.
He took a sip of water and gathered his thoughts.
Everyone saw him fold the paper up.
Quinn looked at Olivia who was in her office watching the press conference, "What is he doing?"
"Being the man, I voted for…"
Fitz looked at the press: "Good morning everyone. Over the last 24 hours we have watched images that many of us thought we would never have to witness again. When I think of protest I think of change. I think of people coming together to make their city, state, country, world, organization, race, and sex a better place. What I don't expect is to see a group of people come together in the name of hate. A group of people come together with the belief that they are better than the person across from them because of the color of their skin. Make no mistake this was no a protest. This was an act of racism. A young woman was courageous enough to walk with her fellow brothers and sisters. She was willing to stand in her truth, and show that no matter your race, creed, or sexual orientation we matter. All lives matter, but I want to address the elephant in the room. Yes, all lives matter, but lately I feel like we as country are not acting that way. This was a black lives matter protest, and that fact that we have to protest for that cause should make us all pause. Civil rights activists such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks worked tirelessly to create change for African-Americans. Dr. King had a dream, and while I don't think it has been fulfilled I think he would have been pleased with the changes that took place since he died. As a country, we had taken more steps forward than backwards. Lately, it feels like we are going backwards and not forwards. I am not comfortable with that. Not just as President but as a human being. I should never have to worry if my children with the First Lady will be stopped, because of the color of their skin. I shouldn't be worried that two of my children will be treated one way while my other children will be treated another just because of the color of their skin. Today, we need to reflect and reset. We need to remember why this country is so great. We need to remember that the color of one's skin does not define who they are as a person. Most importantly, we need to remember that this white supremacist group doesn't represent who we are as a whole. We are better than that. We are stronger than that. We are smarter than that, and I urge everyone to come together and let's show the world who we really are. I implore you to write about Heather. Talk about the courage of those protesters who stood in their truth. The supremacist has been given more than enough air time. I not only condemn this group, but any group or individual that spreads racism. Today I call for unity. Thank you and God Bless the United States of America."
The reporters who normally yelled at the President stood up and clapped after his speech. The speech not only moved the reporters, but those around the country.
It was clear that he had spoken from his heart, and by the end of the day it was clear he had made the right move. Not just for his numbers, but it seemed to calm people.
As the media discussed the speech analyst were careful with their words. Today wasn't a day of being right and wrong. Everyone might not have agreed with everything the President said, but they all agreed that there was no room for white supremacists. Most news stations and papers honored the President's request, and honored the fallen victim. They also discussed the courage of the group to stand in the face of racism.
Overall it was a huge win for the administration, but no one cared. After his meeting Fitz held a huge meeting. Anyone who wasn't with him he had them join via video chat. The meeting included both his staff and Olivia's staff.
In a nutshell Fitz made it clear that he was unapologetic for his statement. Going forth the administration would be about change, and he would not tolerate racism in his administration. Not just amongst the staff, but in their personal life. If any employee was found to use derogatory language, negative actions, or force because of the color of someone's skin or creed they would be terminated effective immediately. He would give everyone one week to resign without any repercussions, and he would give them a glowing recommendation if this was not the path they were willing to follow.
Fitz ended by saying, "I have a responsibility not only to this country, but my family and friends to be a leader even when it may not be popular. This only works if this administration is not divided. If we are divided then everyone else will be too. I don't want anyone to feel pressured to say or do anything that they are not comfortable with. This is not a dictatorship. I want everyone to be happy even if that means you need to move on."
They spent the rest of the weekend dealing with the media. They coordinated with the police to try, and protect the protestors.
It was the day of Heather's funeral, and Olivia's team had done a masterful job keeping her appearance concealed. They had spoken with the family who had given the family permission to attend.
They had left the White House before the sun came up. Quinn found a restaurant that was kind enough to shut down for her and her team. Olivia personally compensated the owner and staff for taking care of them.
Before they left the owner grabbed her hand, "I know you can't or won't tell me, and I assure you that your secret is safe with me. I am however going to go out on a limb, and say you are headed to Heather's funeral. I am friends with her stepfather. I am only guessing that because you have on a purple silk blouse under your blazer, and they requested everyone wear purple to the funeral. The moment I saw you on television after the President was shot I was rooting for him, and the both of you. Although I am a registered Democrat I voted for your husband both times. He was just different, and the moment he married you I knew I made the right call. I didn't shut down my restaurant for profit. I wanted to shake the hand of a courageous woman. You stood in the trenches even when things weren't always rosy. You stood by your man even when you didn't know if he would be whole again. I might not have a ton of degrees on my wall, but I consider myself an educated woman. More importantly I am a family woman. My husband and children are my everything. To see you with Jerry and Karen is everything. My husband's wife died when they were young, and after we married we had four more children. Like you they are all my babies. I saw the conviction in the President's voice. This is deeply personal for him, and as a woman of color that makes me proud. Keep going. Keep fighting. If you need anything your team knows how to get in touch with me, and again I am willing to help without compensation."
Olivia grabbed the woman's hand. She could tell this woman wasn't providing her lip service. It was one of the reasons they had picked her restaurant. Fitz & Olivia had another initiative they were working on together that would be unveiled later in the year. Today was considered a test of sorts. Quinn had expressed to her how easy going the owner was, and how she didn't balk about signing the NDA. She didn't care that no one would know Olivia had been at her restaurant today.
Olivia hugged the woman and whispered in her ear, "I can neither confirm or deny where I will be today, but I promise you that my husband and I will never forget you taking good care of my team and me. I wish you nothing but the best. My husband and son would die if they got to enjoy your food. I promise you one day we will be back."
Olivia walked in the church looking simply but stunning. She had selected a black modern fit flutter sleeve jacket with fit and flare pants suit. As the owner noticed she wore a purple silk blouse underneath, because her mom wanted everyone who attended the service to wear purple.
Everyone was shocked to see Olivia when she walked in. None of them realized that Secret Service had been there in preparation of her arrival since early this morning blending in with everyone.
Olivia made her way to Heather's mom where they shared a long and emotional hug. At her request Olivia sat on the other side of her. After greeting Heather's stepfather, she sat down.
It was a lovely service. It was clear to Olivia that Heather had a lot of people who loved her. They were sad to know that their friend and family member was gone, but they were celebrating her life.
After Heather's mom gave the eulogy she asked Olivia if she would give a few words.
Olivia made it to the podium. She took a moment to calm her nerves. She knew that the funeral was being recorded by the media, and she knew her presences had people pulling out their cell phones.
Olivia looked at the audience, "I won't take up too much of your time. Unlike many of you I didn't know Heather that well. What I do know is that Heather saw an injustice not against herself, her family, but against others. What I know is that she didn't accept that people would be treated differently because of the color of their skin. She decided to stand up for her friends, strangers, and people she had never met. Her decision came at a cost. Her life. Today is a day to remember Heather. She should be honored for her passion and courage. She should be honored for being selfless. If we love and care about Heather's memory then we need to continue what she started. Stand up for injustice. We cannot be afraid. We cannot be silent. If we do they win. They will believe that they won. As the First Lady of the United States I won't let that happen. As long as I have breath racism will not win. Love will win. Kindness will win. Courage will win. Freedom of speech will win. Rest in peace Heather, and God Bless the United States."
Olivia stayed around after the funeral, and spoke with the family for a few moments. They thanked her for paying for Heather's funeral, and for being so supportive.
Olivia nodded, "It is the least I can do. We just wanted you to know that we cared. This is not about polls and ratings. This is about human decency. If I needed help I would hope someone reached out to me."
"You are just anyone. You are the First Lady of the United States."
"No, I am Olivia Pope Grant. First Lady is just a title. One that I hold dear, and take seriously, but I at the end of the day I am a wife and mother."
"Well thank you again."
"You are more than welcome. We will be in touch."
Olivia climbed in the car and took a moment to decompress. The emotions of the day finally hit her, and the tears began to fall.
She was unaware that her speech had gone viral. It was being debated who had the better speech her or her husband.
Although they were debating who had the better speech they all were in agreeance that the couple had united the country.
Olivia was so caught up that she hadn't heard her phone. Fitz called Quinn's phone. Quinn quietly handed Olivia her phone.
Olivia put the phone to her ear, "The kids and I are so proud of you. Once again today you showed them who you are. A wonderful woman who is the best wife and mother, and she just happens to be the First Lady of the United States. When you get home, Ayden thought we could cook dinner together, and maybe make cookies if you are up for it."
"What about you?"
"Just waiting on you to show up…"
"I'll be home soon…"
"And we'll be waiting…"
A/N-Again, I just want to emphasize that there are my thoughts and opinions that I am adding into my stories. As we know the protest is real. Heather is real, and her mother did request that everyone wear purple to her funeral. Outside of that it was all me.
This story is about Fitz's second term in office so political issues will be in the story. I have some in my outline, and most of them were past real events. I may keep them or replace them with more current events. I want to give you guys a head up so there are no surprises with the tone of the story. That is not to say this is going to be all about politics. That is not the case.
The song in this update is Take You Down by Chris Brown
Until next time…
