Who?" Marty asked dreading the answer.
"Steve Tanner asked me to come coach Lauren. For some reason, he thinks he can get rid of you," Sasha said with a chuckle.
"You're kidding me, right?" Marty asked laughed.
"I really wish I was," Sasha replied.
"Well, he's going to be disappointed if he thinks I'm going anywhere. Sasha, while I do have you on the phone, Jake, my Elite Associate is leaving next month, and I was wondering if you would be interested in fully coaching at The Rock? I know why you left gymnastics, it wasn't your fault as I have told you before, but I would be honored to have you join us, Marty told him.
"What would the parents say about this?" Sasha asked.
"As long as their girls make it to the Olympics, they won't care who is coaching them," Marty replied.
"Okay Marty, I'll come. See you soon. I better not regret this," Sasha told him.
"Trust me, you won't," Marty smiled.
"Later," Sasha said ending he call.
Sasha put the phone down, not believing what he had just agreed to. Coaching and in the United States at that. He gathered his things and ran the five miles back home, knowing he had packing to do.
Boulder
Payson and Austin ran ten miles around the park. It had always been a past time of Payson's whenever Marty would make them take a few days off. She would still train someway. Running seemed to be one form of it. She met Austin the first time running the trails a few years ago. Little did they know they would become best friends.
"Great run Pay," Austin said as they made it back to the car.
"Thanks, you too. Can' believe Marty is making all of us take the weekend off this close to Nationals too," Payson said after drinking her water.
"Trust me, I know Payson. But if you didn't notice, everyone but us were having issues," Austin said cranking the car and blasting the air conditioning.
"Yeah, I saw, but not all of us need the break. I don't, you don't either. So why can't he let those of us who don't need to train?" Payson asked checking her messages seeing she forgot to respond to the one 'Romian3Gold' wrote her. She opened it to respond as Austin stole her phone.
"Who is making you smile? Because the Payson Keeler I know doesn't smile like that for anyone, but a very few," Austin said going through her phone.
"Give me back my phone, Austin," Payson told him trying to ger the phone back before he saw anything.
"Who is 'Romian3Gold'?" Austin asked
"None of your business," Payson told him taking her phone back and turning it where he couldn't see her respond.
Romian3Gold
Hey. Thanks for that advise. I run three miles after practice normally. Ran three miles today, will probably run another nine this weekend. How are you? How's the fish biting? I better go before, Austin steals my phone again. He is worse than an older brother. He's like an older brother you didn't want. But he's a good guy. Always there if I need him, my friend Kelly is lucky.
3XGold
Payson paused as she looked at the message that she typed for a moment and thought about changing it and adding her name. She only knew one gymnast on here, but worried about how her new friend would react. Taking a deep breath, she took off her penname and changed it.
Your Friend Payson
Pressing the send before she changed her mind she watched it go through.
"Sorry Austin. I didn't mean to flip on you," Payson told him.
"It's okay Pay. Please don't tell Kelly, she will kill me," Austin begged her.
"I won't. Just don't do it again. Come on, that run made me hungry. Let's go get lunch," Payson said.
"Sure, Pay, sounds good," Austin said.
On the way to the restaurant, they passed The Rock. Austin slowed down noticing a new car if you want to call it that. There sat a truck of every American boy and mans wet dreams in the parking lot. Payson looked up to see Austin staring at the huge truck. Living in Colorado, it wasn't a bad thing to have a vehicle that could handle the snow they had a habit to get.
"Boys and their trucks," Payson laughed.
Meanwhile in The Rock, Marty was siting in his office talking to the blonde male. The looked close to the same age. Laughing at something between them, each holding a coffee mug, them enjoyed their selves. Standing to walk to the office door, they headed down to the main floor.
"Well Sasha, what do you think? Think you'd be interested in taking over for Jake?" Marty asked.
"Sure, long as you back me on my teaching style. No offense, you know I'm stricter than most, but the results are worth it," Sasha told him.
"I know, only ones I can see having issues is Kaylie Cruz and Lauren Tanner. They give me and the other coaches the most issues. I'm about to kick both and one of my male Elite out," Marty told him.
"Carter Anderstand or Austin Tucker?" Sasha asked.
"Oh, I at times wish it was Austin. He reminds me of you so much. But his girlfriend Kelly Parker keeps him on his feet if she doesn't, Payson does. She's a lot like her mom, Kim, who is he gym manager. Only mom I can stand for long periods of time," Marty explained.
So Carter, while he did get a gold all around, but only a bronze metal on vault. He is sloppy at best. He only way he would get fold is if everyone fell during the events. That can be worked on, but he Is the focus of Kaylie and Lauren. They think they can hide it, but they can't," Marty continued as they closed up for the day.
"Why not let him hang himself with his own rope. We will tell everyone there is a no dating rule," Sasha suggested to Marty.
"Sounds good to me," Marty agreed whole heartedly.
"Want to get a drink? God knows we need it before tomorrow," Marty asked headed for the doors.
"Sure, sounds good to me. What time are the gymnasts due?" Sasha asked.
"Well I told them to take two days off, tomorrow being that second day. I could see things turning bad for everyone, but Payson and Austin. I already had three falls on beam, bars and almost one bad sprang on floor. This close to Nationals, we didn't need any more injuries," Marty spoke.
"I understand that. But why Payson and Austin?" Sasha asked confused.
"They seem to thrive on pressure. Kelly too when she is here. Been trying to get her here for good, but her mother is crazy. I have been compiling a folder for her to be emancipated," Marty told him locking the gym doors.
"They sound like us when we train. And she sounds like a class act for sure," Sasha smiled.
"Worse at times," he smiled back. "Knowing those two, they are doing some sort of training. Be it running, swimming, of any sorts."
"Oh yeah, that was us for sure. At that age and that time in our careers, all we did was train, train, train," Sasha agreed with him.
"Come on to the bar. It isn't that far. We can walk from here if we want to," Marty told him as he headed down the street towards downtown part of Boulder.
Sasha followed him, thinking to himself what did he really just sign up for. Was he really cut out for training again. He was about to find out. He prayed he didn't disappointed Marty.
