CHAPTER 13

Grissom was in his office, Greg had started to process the evidence from their scene. Greg had been quiet with him the whole shift and even though he knew why, he thought it best not to get into with him right now. He knew he would have to address the him, Sara and baby issue with the team eventually but for this shift, everyone knowing was enough tonight. To break him out of his thoughts, the very man, Greg.

"we got a hit on DNA, Michael Warner, from boulder city, Jim just got an address and He's going picking him up now wants us to meet him at PD"

Greg didn't give Grissom a chance to respond he was out of his office hoping his boss was following him.

While in the car, again there was silence. Grissom had never seen Greg behave this way toward him in all the years he knew him. So he thought he'd break the ice.

"so, peculiar weather we're having, eh?"

Gregs eyebrows arched to dramatic proportions, "Grissom with all do respect, I know you're my boss but I dont want to talk to you about weather. If you have something else you would like to say to me then il hear it but other than that lets just focus on the case"

Grissom was taken aback by the ballsiness of Greg which was out of character.

"what is it that you would like me to say then Greg?"

"are you kiding me Grissom? My boss and my best friend have been having an affair behind my back, now their suddenly having a baby and you drop it into handover like you would add sugar to your coffee and you expect me and everyone else to be hunky dory about it and get on with the shift?"

Grissom was floored. He knew somewhere in the back of his mind that Greg had to be rehearsing this all evening. " frankly Greg its nobody elses business "

"well I disagree , it affects us all"

Grissom knew he was right but hated being put on the spot about his personal life. This is exactly why he didn't want to get into a relationship with Sara in the first place. He mentally scolded himself for thinking that way. Instead he decided to just keep quiet. They pulled into the car park of the police station and Greg was the first to jump out and slammed the door to really make his point heard.

Greg wasn't backing down. It made Grissom think about how much their actions have and will affect the team. He got a bad feeling in his gut that he just couldn't put his finger on. He got out of the car and followed Greg inside.

The interview went on on for an hour and a half with the suspect eventually confessing to Jim the hand he played in the death of his friend while boating on lake Meade. Grissom and Greg just watched from the observation room as the young man broke down in tears confessing his guilt.

"I love her too. Sara's like a sister to me and I don't want to see her hurt again... I know you will make a great father but I just doubt your commitment to Her and she's gonna need you now more than ever. You ready to handle that?"

Gregs voice was one filled with sorrow and genuine concern this time and Grissom heard what he was saying. "I don't know if I'm ready Greg, I don't know what kind of father I will make. I don't know what kind of partner I will make. But I do know that I love her. More than anyone and anything. I promise I wont hurt her Greg, you have my word on that"

Greg nodded his head as if he were mulling over the words his boss had just said and decided he was being sincere. "ok"

It was all Greg could say at that point. Both men knew the others intentions and both men reached an understanding about the woman in question. Greg just needed to hear where Grissoms loyalties and priorities stood.

A quick nod of the head from Grissom and it was back to lab for both of them.
