Alucard glared into the dark above him daring the storm slowly moving overhead to begin raining. He'd perched himself on a small balcony attached to an apartment block to observe the shipping yard for an hour or so before he went hunting for whatever had taken up residence. It wasn't the usual vampire hideout, most preferring night clubs or abandoned building to hunt or rest during the day. The priest in Cheddar village had been another embarrassing cliché, over used and simplistic. Vampires these days were just… Trash.

The London police, after their disastrous encounter with his kind only a few days ago had reported several cases where they feared that the supernatural may be involved. Sir had sent squadrons of solider to each case she deemed unimportant, before handing him this assignment. Four bodies had been found so far, mauled and torn apart, drained of blood and scattered over the ship yard. The bodies had been had been put back together by the police like a macabre jigsaw, only to find bite marks and chunks of flesh missing.

The bites had been assumed to be that of an animal, seeing as human teeth weren't that sharp and the force taken to tear limbs from their sockets and crush the ribcage was beyond humanity's pitiful strength limitations. Perhaps it was fortunate that the bodies were too badly damaged to become ghouls, else he'd have been sent here and not to Cheddar and not obtained the Draculina, Seras Victoria. His fledgling.

The more recent, more intact corpses, however…

They resembled a vampire's victim, although he'd thought from the earlier bodies it was several ghouls instead of a pair of vampires that the marks on the later bodies were suggesting. None of the corpses showed signs of turning, nor had any risen as a ghoul, which was highly unusual

Though more important things were at hand then this mission that only just peaked his interest, his fledgling would rise late tomorrow evening. The police girl… How would she react? Shock? Terror? Disgust? He'd been reluctant to leave the manor, early awakening of that his Draculina would be disposed of by Sir Integra. He'd been given an order, however- the bindings that Abraham Van-Hellsing had placed forced him to obey.

He leapt from his perch, feeling the slight rush of adrenaline as he free fell from the balcony to the ground. Even if the sky was cloudy and the moon shined neither white nor red, this would be a beautiful night indeed.

He would make sure of it.

Zero twitched, then blinked slowly. He had to wonder when and how he'd gotten drunk enough to have a hangover like this. The last he'd woken in the middle of nowhere, lovely sweet wonderful Yuki had decided to get him and Kaname to "reconcile." She'd locked them in a broom closet after getting them drunk. The only thing he knew for certain was he'd woken up with a broken rib in the school gardens.

This time though the last thing he could remember was… Oh.

Well, he thought, fighting not to burst out in hysterical laughter, that explained why his mouth tasted like something had crawled in and died in it…

He rolled over and vomited onto the floor of the shipping container, whimpering when the skin around his wound pulled tight and his raging headache threatened to split open his skull.

After a few moment when the pain lessened ever so slightly, Zero manoeuvred himself to slump against the wall only to grit his teeth and then let out a pained moan when the wall he was leaning on decided to reveal it was a door by giving way behind him. Leaving him sprawled across the ground and the vicious wound through his stomach and side pulled wide open. The shriek of tortured metal made by him to clutch at his head and roll onto his side using all self-restraint to stop him from crying out in pain. Today really wasn't his day, he'd ask fate for a break but she'd wait and then hit him twice as hard. Tonight, he amended, Cross was right he was stickler for details, shivering in response to the first raindrops that fell on him.

Zero wasn't quite certain what happened. His recent memories were blurry, he could remember the fight that had caused the wound, and how long he'd spent fending off the level E's that he had shared the container with while the fatal infection slowly set in into his blood. Considering how much effort was required to move he doubted it had gotten any better or that it would even with extensive medical care. He'd been on board to kill a group of vampires and then betrayed by a pair of rookies.

The only things he could remember after the infection made itself a permanent lethal resident within his blood were brief but gory snatchers of blood and death. Screaming. Tearing flesh from a corpse in an effort to ease the gnawing hunger and dizzying weakness, it didn't. There were more confusing memories of the other level E that he shoved aside. He would consider their implications later.

The leader of those level E's was still alive. Nearby even.

Now if only he could just reach Bloody Rose and find away to stand up right and then staunch the sluggish flow of blood and pus from his stomach and side, that was something he could fix.

Permanently.
