He looked so fragile like he could break any minute, he looked like he was a little kid again, "Sammy" it came out as only a whisper but the emotions behind it were far greater than any yell.

Dean got to Sam's bedside before John could blink, he was holding his hand within his, while brushing stray strands of hair off his forehead. John made his way to his son's bedside, grasping the hand that wasn't in a cast in his own.

Sam laid there unmoving, while Dean sat next to his brother memories came flooding back to when Sam was a little kid.

Flashback

"Sammy, no"

"Why not Dean?"

"Because I don't feel like it" Dean had been cranky all week and Sam wouldn't stop bothering his brother to play with him.

"Deeeeaaannnn" Sam whined.

"NO! Leave me alone".

Sam's bottom lip quivered as the tears spilled, and he ran out of the room. Dean looked up feeling slightly guilty but in the end was too annoyed to chase after him.

Bobby walked into the room with a look that said 'What did you' on his face, they had been staying at Bobby's while their dad was on a hunt.

"What did you do to your brother"?

"Nothing"

"Uh-huh that's why Sammy just ran passed me crying his eyes out"

"Look he wanted to play a game and I said no"

"Why can't you just play with him you have been crabby all week and I am done listing to you bitch and moan, he's only 5 Dean"

"Fine I will go and find him okay" Even though Dean was annoyed, he was still worried about Sam, and he knew Bobby saw through his act too.

Sam ran as far as he could trying to find somewhere to hide if Dean didn't want to play with him than fine he would play by himself. Sam kept running until he saw an open trunk in one of the old cars in Bobby's junkyard, Perfect. Sam ran to the old beat up Mustang and hopped into the trunk and closed it.

Dean Started getting frantic after an hour of searching with no luck, by this time Bobby had joined him in the search for Sam.

"Sammy!" Dean yelled, "Come on out Sam we can play a game."

"I'm sorry kid just come out already!"

"SAM!" Bobby yelled.

Nothing.

Sam noticed that it was getting harder to breathe, he tried to get out but the door wouldn't budge. Sam started crying again hoping someone would find him soon, all he wanted was his brother.

Dean and Bobby were still searching when a thought occurred to Bobby "Dean did you check in all the cars you know Sammy's favorite game is hide and seek"

"I think I checked them all"

"Let's double check"

The two searched for the for what seemed like hours when in reality it was only probably 30 minutes"

After searching five different cars Dean opened the trunk on a rusted out Mustang to find Sammy curled up inside. "Sammy!"

Bobby came running over and immediately checked him over and only finding a terrified kid, he turned to Dean "Take your brother inside"

Dean picked up his crying brother and walked back to the house. Dean was crying like there was no tomorrow as he held onto his brother and whispered in his ear so that only he could hear "Sammy I'm so sorry, I am your big brother I will always take care of you, I love you Sammy, I'm sorry."

End Flashback

Dean wiped away the tears at the memories and he only hoped that his brother would wake up soon so they could make more memories together.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

'My god I am thirsty' was Sam's first thought as the grogginess began to clear. Trying to open his eye's hurt from the bright lights, 'what the hell' he thought.

"Sammy? That's it, buddy. Open your eyes for us"

Was that Dean talking to me?

"Rise and shine Sam"

Sam squinted as he slowly opened them but this time instead of seeing the bright lights, Dean's face was in his line of vision. "De" Sam tried speaking but found his lack of hydration made that difficult.

"Let me get you some water buddy" Dean saw Sam's cracked and dry lips and when he tried to talk he knew he needed water. Helping him slowly sip the water, "you scared the shit out of me brother"

"What happened?"

"The apartment caught on fire, do you remember any of it?"

The memories came flooding back to Sam of the fire and trying to escape it, he remembered the ceiling falling on him.

"I do now, thanks for getting me out Dean"

"I would never leave you, Sammy, you're my little brother and it's my job to take care of you"

Dean got into Sam's hospital bed carefully and draped an arm around him only to find both brothers falling asleep within minutes. John walked in after stopping at a motel to shower and get clean clothes for Dean since he refused to leave Sam's side. He turned the corner into his sons room when the sight before him made him smile.

Dean was laying gingerly on the edge of the hospital bed with Sam cradled in his side while both slept soundly. Yeah, they were going to be okay.

*********So this story was orginally written 8 years ago! I recently started reading fanfic again and decided I needed to compelete this. I went back through the old chapter and cleaned/edited them a bit!
