A/N: Happy Holidays! :)
Chapter 18: Christmas Day
Today was Christmas Eve in Smash-City. And what better way to celebrate Christmas by having a rocking Christmas party?
The Mario Bros. we're hosting their annual Christmas party at the Smash Mansion. All smashers, and some people from their games were invented as well. The Smash Mansion was a cool place. Get it, cuz winter? Hahaha! (...) Anyways, the mansion was three stories tall. The first two floors were used for social gatherings, such as club meetings, or parties like this. The bottom floor consisted of a giant room, complete with sofas, buffet tables, televisions, and video games! The second floor consisted of the bathroom as well as bedrooms for... Y'know. Sleeping, of course. The courtyard of the Mansion had a pool, which was currently empty. I wonder why? There were also roundabouts and fancy fountains all over the place, along with golden statues of the original smashers. The third floor was the Hall of Fame. It was just a long hallway that had portraits of the winner of various awards, such as "Bestt Assist Trophy," or "Most Enthusiastic." At the end were huge portraits of the winners of the annual smash tournaments. Whose portraits were there? Again, that's all in your imagination.
Inside the mansion was insane. Bowser and his band were playing Christmas songs. The whole thing was gonna be a sleepover until Christmas Day, so it was also a pajama party! Right now Bowser and his band were playing their hit song, "All I Want For Christmas Is Food."
The Smash Youngsters were having a giant Mario Kart tournament at the TV's. Marth, Ike, and the Robins were there too.
"NOOOO!" Ike yelled as Ness beat him, again. "How are you so good?"
"What can I say?" Ness said, "It's a gift."
"He's so dreamy..." Nana said to her brother, Popo. They were only a few feet from Ness, but Ness was so caught up in his game against Ike and Marth that even the room exploding wouldn't catch his attention. And yes, I believe that they are siblings. They look too similar to not be. If they actually aren't, then sorry.
"Um... What?" Popo said, taking his face out of his bowl of cookies.
"Ugh... Never mind." Nana said, shaking her head. "I'm gonna take a quick walk." She got up from the sofa, and started walking. To where, she had no idea.
Zelda was walking around the mansion, looking for a certain somebody.
"Hey, Lucina!"
"Yeah?" She said. She was just watching the beating that Ness was putting on everyone.
"Have you seen Link?"
"Um... Yes." Lucina said.
"Well... Where is he?"
"Um... He's went with Peach into one of the bedrooms. He told me that they're having kisses, and asked me to join them." Lucina blushed even more. "But I'm not that kind of girl. I can't sow-"
"W- what?" Zelda murmured. She clenched her fist. "Why didn't you tell me?!"
Lucina looked very uncomfortable. "Um..."
"Never mind. Just come with me." She and Lucina ran upstairs.
Nana was walking, and found a neat little corner with a small pond, a little bunch of sunflowers, and a bench right underneath a cherry blossom tree.
She sat down, thinking about... Stuff. There were two birds, a blue and a pink one, on one of the cherry blossum's branches. The tree was completely barren, except for a single cherry blossom on the tree. The pink bird took the last one and offered it to the blue one. It took it, and they flew away together, onto another branch.
"How sweet..." She said to herself.
"Yeah."
Nana turned around to see Lucas.
"Uh, hey." Lucas said.
"Hey." Nana said. She didn't know him much, because he was so shy.
"I saw you walk away from everyone. Is something wrong?" Lucas asked.
"You did? Oh, it's fine. I just needed some time by myself." Nana said.
"Oh... Sorry..." Lucas said. He turned to leave.
"Oh, I didn't mean it like that! You can stay if you like." Nana called to him.
"Really?" Lucas's eyes shone. "I- I mean... If it's not a burden to you..."
"Of course not!" Nana smiled, and patted the bench. "Here."
Lucas sat down. The two birds were singing together.
"Look at those birds!" Nana said. "They're singing!"
"Yeah... It's almost like they're..." Lucas looked at the birds. "In love."
The blue bird started walking away from the pink bird, only to be bumped into again by the pink bird, and dragged back to the spot where they were singing.
"I guess the feeling's one sided." Nana said.
"...yeah..." Lucas said, looking down. "Y'know, this is the spot I go to when I need to think."
"Really?"
"Yeah. You see those sunflowers? I planted them." Lucas said.
"Wow! They're beautiful!" Nana said. "Nice!"
"But, hey! Look!" Nana said. Lucas looked up to see a yellow bird, who was standing there, watching everything unfold. He tried to approach the pink bird, only to have it fly away in pursuit of the blue bird. The yellow bird looked almost...sad.
"Y'know, Lucas, I have a crush on Ness." Nana said. "But... I don't know if he likes me back. You're great friends with him, right? Does he talk about me?"
"Well, no... Not really." Lucas said.
"Oh..." Nana said. She looked down.
"B-but it doesn't mean that nobody ever will." Lucas said. He had a flashback of a time when Lucas and Ness were talking.
"Hey Ness?" Lucas said.
"Yeah?" Ness replied.
"I- I have to tell you something." Lucas started to sweat. He's never told anyone this before. "I- I think Nana's cute."
Ness looked at him, wide eyed. " That's great!" Ness patted him on the back. "Good for you!"
"Do you think she likes me back?"
"Well, I don't know, but that shouldn't stop you from trying! Open up a little, enjoy life! Stop living under a rock!" Ness said. "I know! Talk to her at the Christmas party! Get to know her!"
"Alright. I'll try..." Lucas said.
The flashback ended.
Sure, Nana's secret surprised him, and it hurt him quite a bit, but he had to power through it, to make Nana happy.
"Just talk to him." Lucas said. "You never know what could happen. Sometimes people are blind to what's right in front of them." He took a sunflower and gave it to her. "Here. Give this to him."
"Aww, thanks!" Nana hugged him. "I'll go do that right now!" With that, she ran off, leaving Lucas alone. The blue and pink bird flew off, leaving the yellow bird alone.
Lucina and Zelda walked upstairs. Behind one of the rooms, "mms" could be heard. Zelda kicked the door down and stormed in.
Inside, Link and Peach were putting together four Christmas Elf costumes. There was a bowl of Hershey's kisses on the table, and Link and Peach were each eating some.
"Hey, Zelda!" Link said. "Want some kisses? They're delicious!"
"Wait... What?" Zelda screamed.
"Sorry, Zelda." Lucina said. "Link wanted it to be a surprise."
"Yeah. We're gonna dress as Christnas elves! The two of us!" Link said. "I even got Peach to help make the costumes!"
"Yep!" Peach said. "I'm really good with costumes!"
Zelda walked up to Link, and for a few seconds Lucina thought that she was gonna punch him. But, instead, she gave him a hug.
"...They're perfect. Thank you." Zelda said. They released their hug. Then she slapped him. "And don't ever do that to me again."
Back downstairs, Nana made it back to the mansion.
Taking a deep breath, she hid her sunflower behind her back, and walked to Ness.
"Hey, Ness?" Nana said.
"Hey Nana!" Ness said. He put down the wii u controller, and turned his attention to her. "What's up?"
"Well, I just wanted to say Marry Christmas to you." She took out the sunflower. "And I got this for you."
"Er... Thanks." Ness said. He pocketed the sunflower, and turned around. He turned all his attention back to the game, as if nothing happened.
Nana sighed. I guess he doesn't actually like me... She sat down next to Popo again.
"I'm back." She said.
"When did you leave?" Popo asked, taking his face out of the cookie bowl for the second time in his three hours at the party.
"Never mind."
"Guys! The visitors are here!" Pit said, he ran outside, along with Mario, to greet them.
Outside the mansion was a giant black bus.
People from all different games were flooding out of it, and people were greeting each other like a giant family reunion, and it kinda was like a family reunion. Zelda and Toon Link were chatting with Malon, Lana, and tons of other people, and Marth and Lucina were introducing each other to their Fire Emblem comrades. Shulk was introducing Ike to all of his friends, like Reyn and Sharla. Reyn and Ike looked at each other, and automatically sat down at a table together and started arm wrestling, without saying a word. Palutena was introducing Link to Viridi. Viridi asked him to show her his clawshot. It was a grand time.
Anyways, let's fast forward to tomorrow. All that happened was the Christmas Dinner, with a food fight, and a wonderful duet with Zelda and Link playing Sleigh Bells on the ocarina and harp to end off the night.
The next morning, all of the party-goers were woken up by the excited yells of the youngsters.
The smashers got dressed in winter coats and scarves and went downstairs. They found a boatload of presents around the gigantic Christmas tree.
Zelda walked to the patio, and saw Toon Link there, asleep. Smiling, she took off her Christmas coat, and gave it to him as a blanket. He would wake up soon enough. She walked back inside, and Link offered her jacket to her.
"Looks like Santa had a surplus of toys this year!" Ike said, opening up a present for himself. It was a sword polisher. "Neat!"
Marth opened a present of his, to find a big pile of coal, along with the words, "Merry Christmas!" written on a card. "What...?"
Link and Ike chuckled and fist bumped behind Marth.
Toon Link finally walked back inside, yawning.
"Up looking for Santa again?" Link asked.
"Yeah... One day I'll catch him! Mark my words!" Toon Link said.
"I believe you." Ike said.
"Thank you!"
The Smahsers had a smashing time as they opened up presents from everybody. I especially liked the signed picture of Waluigi with a rose between his lips that he got everyone. Classy. Not as classy as the bottled garlic that Wario got everyone, though.
Nana was opening her presents in the corner, alone. She wasn't in the mood for Christmas. She reached her last present, which was crudely wrapped, as if it was literally a last minute present. "To Nana." It said. It was really thin, probably just a card. Sighing, she opened it up. She was right. She opened it, to see message.
Nana,
I know this doesn't say who the card is from. But I just need to get this off my chest. I, I think you're amazing. Your smile, the way you walk... It makes my heart skip a beat. I just wanted to let you know that. Somebody does care about you. I'm sorry about the stuff that had happened to you. I can't fix the pain that it brought you. But I hope I nullified it. Marry Christmas.
Nana smiled. Turning it around, she saw a handmade drawing of her, holding a sunflower. She looked up, tears in her eyes. She caught Lucas staring at her, and she smiled at him. He smiled back. In a moment of realization, Lucas's words came back to her. Sometimes people are blind to what's right in front of them.
"Maybe this Christmas wasn't so bad after all..." She whispered to herself as she walked up to Lucas and gave him a hug. Ness gave a thumbs up to Lucas afterwards.
Ness then went on to play a game of Mario Kart against Ike.
"Yes! I won! Told you I was the best!" Ike screamed, doing his victory dance. Ness chuckled. Sure, he lost on purpose, and Ike's victory was actually fake, but it was Christmas. He would allow it... For today.
Zelda and Link were talking, when Marth walked up to them.
"Hey, guys... Guess what?" He said.
"What?" Link asked.
Marth pointed above their heads. They looked up to see a mistletoe above them. "Have fun." He said to them with a smile. Then, he went off to have an eggnog drinking competition with Snake, leaving the two of them standing there, awkwardly.
Mario was painstakingly watching Peach open up his present for her. Captain Falcoln looked on from a distance, smiling.
As her hands slowly tore open the present, Mario went over possible reactions that she could have. What if... She hated it? What if she already received a handbag? Mario was biting his nails, through his gloves, and sweating like a dog. A duck hunt dog.
"Oh my gosh! It's... A pink handbag!" Peach screamed, holding it up like Link when he finds a new item. The jingle played and everything. Strange.
"I love it!"
Mario exhaled. "No problem, Peach!"
"Aww, thank you!" Peach said, hugging him and kissing him on the nose. "I'm gonna use it every day!" Mario couldn't of been happier. He owed Captain Falcon one.
"Alright, everyone, lemme smash! I mean... Lemme get a picture!" Mario said, holding up his camera.
"CHEESE!" Everyone yelled, as Mario turned the timer on. Unfortunately, on his way to his spot, he tripped, knocking over Bowser, who knocked over Luigi, who knocked over Pit, who knocked over yadda yadda yadda... You get what I mean.
After the whole domino fiasco, the camera flashed. Mario and the others looked at it. The Mario Characters were all of the floor, the Pokemon and Fire Emblem characters were laughing, and everyone else were in the middle of falling down. They looked like they were about to sneeze. Except, there was a silhouette of two people kissing in the background...
It was perfect. The perfect picture to end the perfect Christmas!
Mario hung the picture on the solid gold refrigerator of memories, next to their Halloween picture from the epic party that I forgot to write about.
"Another happy ending!" Mario said.
"Or... is it just the beginning?" Pit asked, a sly smile on his face. In a swift motion, he threw a snowball at Mario, smacking him right in the nose. A giant snowball fight instantly broke out in the mansion.
Then the mansion exploded.
Just kidding
The End (of the chapter, not the story, silly!)
A/N: And here's to another year of Smashventures!
