A/N: Hiii. I tried to make up a logical explanation to what happened to the two of them, but then I remembered that this is Smashventures. To the chapter!

Splatoooooooooooonnnnnn! Is fun.

Chapter 30: Meeting Up

Link had had it. They had only been walking for an hour, and he was already ready to abandon Peach forever. The whole time, she had been singing the Duck Song, and even Cookie started meowing along.

Ok, when you think about it, that's one of the most adorable things ever, but after an hour, it got annoying. And plus, Link did not find either of them adorable. After all, Link is part wolf, and therefore, part dog. They're both cats, figuratively and literally speaking. Dogs and cats are mortal enemies.

They sang their way down the path, and they eventually came face to face with a flowing river. On the other side was a dense forest, which was quite different than the giant fields that they had been walking in for the past hour.

"I don't remember this on the bus drive." Link said.

"Well, you weren't looking out the window the whole time." Peach said. "Looks like we'll have to forge across." She was about to step in when she remembered something. "Oops! I can't go and get this dress wet! Silly me!" She started to undress but was stopped by Link.

"No, Princess! Stop!" Link pleaded, covering his eyes. "You don't have to do that. Besides, the river is way too strong to swim across anyways."

"Well, how am I gonna get across then?" Peach asked.

"I'll use my hookshot. I remembered it this time!" Link said triumphantly. He fiddled in his infinitely big pocket, found his hookshot, and shot it at a branch of a tree at the other side of the river.

"Alright, hang on." Link said. Peach hung on to Link, with one arm around Link, and another clutching Cookie.

"Ready!" Peach said.

Link started pulling in the chain of the hookshot. However, while they were being pulled closer to the other side, Cookie jumped out of Peach's hands and into the water.

"Cookie! No!" Peach said. She let go of Link and fell into the river after the cat.

Link made it to the other side, but only because the hookshot sped up considerably after the other two had fallen.

Grumbling, Link pocketed the hookshot and watched the two be swept away.

"Link! Help!" Peach yelled.

Link sighed. "Why me...?" With another sigh, he jumped into the water after them.

He swam with the current, which allowed him to catch up to the two very quickly. Peach had caught Cookie, who was looking very shocked. Link managed to catch up to her, but found it very hard to get any closer. He was to her right, but neither of them could get within arms reach because of the rapids.

Just when he thought that they would be stuck in the river forever, he felt the water disappear around him. Apparently they had reached a waterfall. Looking down, Link saw a bunch of pointy rocks at the bottom of the waterfall.

As they fell, Link had time to reach Peach, now that the water wasn't pushing him around.

"I need to get my hookshot out!" Link yelled. He tried to reach in his pocket, which was very hard to do with tons of air being blasted into your face.

"Hurry!" Peach yelled.

As the rocks approached them, Cookie clung to Peach's arm harder, and Peach clung to Link's harder.

"It's kinda hard to find it when you're clutching my arm this hard!" Link yelled.

"Oh, sorry!"

Link finally found his hookshot. He turned them all around midair so that they were facing the sky, and shot at a tree that was off to the side of the waterfall. Link prayed that he would hit a branch.

Thankfully, the voice of Palutena could be heard again, saying "I got you fam," as the hookshot tightened and pulled the three of them to safety.

"I expect a favor for that. Say, dinner?" Palutena's voice said as Link shook himself off.

"Hey! You're not even supposed to be in this chapter!" Link snapped. Palutena just chuckled, and did not answer for the rest of the journey.

Link turned his attention the Peach, who ran at him and embraced him, hard.

"You did it! You saved us! My hero!" Peach screamed in delight. She wrapped her arms around him and spun him around. "I'm alive!"

"Yes, you're alive. That's great. Now could you let me down?" Link asked. "I swear, you're way too flamboyant."

Peach blushed. "Uh, yeah. Flamboyance. That's all it is. Hahah..." She turned away before her face could get too red. Meanwhile, Cookie was laying down in the grass, sunbathing.

"Cmon, Cookie." Link said, picking her up. "We should get going."

"Why don't we take a break right here?" Peach asked. "Just look at the waterfall. It's gorgeous!" She sat down in the grass with her legs straight out. "I mean, we almost did die. I think we deserve a break."

"Fine." Link said, sitting down next to Peach. Cookie crawled in between them and went to sleep.

They were sitting near, but not close enough to fall off, the edge of the cliff that the hookshot had brought them to. A bunch of roses and sunflowers were around them. They were surrounded by great oak trees a hundred times larger than them, so there wasn't much sunlight below. However, there was one spot that the leaves did not cover, leaving a small area of reachable sunlight. That's where they were sitting.

They could see the waterfall on the other side of the cliff. Below was a beautiful, clear lake with deer and squirrels running around. However, the lake was surrounded with m all sides by the cliff, and there would be no way to get back up if they had survived the fall. A rainbow was above the waterfall, adding to the layered effect of mysticality that the place had.

Link was enjoying the view when Peach cleared her throat.

"Um... Link?"

"Yeah?"

Peach looked deep in thought. "... It's nothing." She said after a while.

"Alright." Link said, oblivious. "Y'know, Peach... You may get me into the worst situations, but I guess I'm glad that you're with me right now. I would be totally lonely otherwise."

Peach looked at him happily. "Thanks... And I'm sorry for everything I've put you through."

"It's okay. I'm not dead yet, right? Link said.

"Yeah, you're right!" Peach laughed.

They continued talking and laughing for the longest time, and before they knew it, the sun was setting.

"Oh shoot! I lost track of time! We should've left hours ago!" Link said. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I'm sorry! I forgot about time too!" Peach replied.

"Well, I guess we can't walk in the dark."

"Yay! We get to sleep here!" Peach said. She sat down and, unknowingly, put her head on Link's shoulder. Link shuffled uncomfortably, but Peach stayed. They watched the sun set at the base of the waterfall together.

After a few minutes of talking, and a few seconds of Peach worrying if the pie she baked for him would make Link explode (ahem, reference, ahem), the sun had finally disappeared, leaving little light left where they were.

Link made a makeshift pillow out of some moss, took out a blanket from his pocket, and laid down to sleep. Why he didn't also have a pillow in there as well is unknown. Cookie laid down to his left, and Peach directly to his right.

"Hey! Why can't you sleep somewhere else?" Link asked as Peach squeezed into the blanket next to him

"Aw, c'mon!" Peach said. "I don't have a blanket!"

"Fine, just take mine." Link said.

"Thanks!" Peach took the blacker from him and rolled herself into a cocoon. "Mm, it's so warm! Better watch out, Link! Tomorrow I'm gonna be a butterfly!"

"I hate you..."

"Love you too!" Peach said sarcastically.

Link sighed, then chuckled. He was actually warming up to Peach, surprising as that is. "Good night, then..." He said, a few seconds before he started snoring.

"Good night..." Peach dreamily said. She gave a final, high-pitched yawn, and went to sleep, dreaming about who-knows-what.

The next day, Link awoke to find neither Peach nor Cookie with him. However, the blanket that Peach had taken was around him. Alarmed, he looked around, but he still could not see them. However, he noticed the rope that was attached between two trees. Hanging on that rope was Peach's dress.

Then, he heard a voice from below the cliff.

"Link! You woke up!" Link looked down the cliff and found Peach, who was wearing a modest outfit made of leaves, waving at him. Her hair was tied back with a price of grass, and a bright blue feather was in her hair. That was a nice touch. Cookie was with her.

"Peach? Is that you?" Link asked.

"Yeah! What do you think!" She spun around gracefully. "Not bad for three hours work, huh?"

"It's amazing! And you look stunning in it too!" Link tried to be happy for her. But he wasn't good at faking complements.

Ooh! Shots fired.

Peach smiled. "Thanks!"

Link, realizing what he had said, changed the topic quickly. "Um... So, how did you get down there?"

"I climbed down the convenient natural staircase over there." Peach pointed to the staircase that neither of them saw yesterday. Turns out all they needed to do to find it was look to the right.

"Well, why are you down there anyways?"

"Well... When we went to sleep, I noticed that we were soaking wet. Which is disgusting. So, I did the only sensible thing a girl in my position would do. I took off my clothes and made a new dress!"

"Ah." Link said.

"I made you new clothes as well! And I already put them on you so that you slept dryly!"

"Wha?" Link looked down to find his usual tunic replaced with a beautiful leaf shirt and pants. Taking a second look at the clothes line, he noticed his tunic and socks there as well. His boots were there too, and he was walking barefooted.

"Wait... You stripped me while I was sleeping?" Link yelled.

"Don't worry." Peach said. "I didn't see anything! Your underwear is still on!"

"Grr..." Link shook his head. "I can't believe you sometimes."

"Neither can I." Peach said. "Hey, I also got you a neat little feather! I didn't have time to make you a hat." She plucked the blue feather from her hair and gave it to him. By now, she had made it back up to where Link was.

"Oh, thanks, but, it looks better on you." Link said.

"Don't worry! I made myself something else to wear!" She turned around, put it on, and turned back to Link, yelling "Ta Da!" It was one of those flower-halos that sit around the top of your head. I don't know what they're called. It was made out of a bunch of different flowers, but it really completed Peach's nature look.

"Wow! That's really cool!" Link said. He put the feather in his hair. "At least we'll look like fashionable hobos when we see other people."

"Well, our clothes are definitely dry by now, so you can always change back if you want. But I'm sticking with these clothes." She started skipping down the pathway, away from the waterfall. She was humming as she skipped. "Cmon! Let's get going!"

Looking at Peach's new outfit, he decided to stay in his nature clothes. After all, if she looked amazing in it, then he would too. At least, he hoped that was the case. He stuffed their clothes and underwear into his pocket, and ran after Peach.

Walking through the forest was a weird experience for them. They met a talking donkey, a giant, a witch who had a house made of gingerbread, a princess who lived with seven dwarves, and many other insane things. They only found out hours later that they had been in the Fairy Tail woods.

Maybe I'll write a chapter crossing over the fairy tales with the smashers one day.

Anyways, they eventually made it back to the road. They followed it for about an hour before they found an 80's styled diner. Waiters were serving burgers and milkshakes while singing songs about making bread (if you know what song I'm talking about, then you'll get why I said that).

"What's a diner like this doing here?" Link asked.

"I dunno, but I know where you're taking me for lunch!" Peach said. Her stomach growled.

"Oh no! We can't afford it!"

"We can't afford it, but you can!" Peach cheered. "Cmon, you can't deny a cute girl like me!"

We have food in my sack." Link said, taking out a flimsy price of bread.

"Sorry, but if you want to treat a girl right, then you have to buy them lunch!" Peach proclaimed. She grabbed Link by the hands and led him into the diner.

"I really don't think this is a good idea..." Link said. Just then, a bass line started playing. "Oh no..."

"Cmon, Link! Lots of people have fun at diners. Let me show you..." Peach and the whole diner then proceeded to perform a thirty minute 80s style song about having fun drinking milkshakes. While I could make up lyrics to it, I won't because it can't make it an actual music video. Maybe one day...

Just pretend there is a music video of this happening. Maybe to the tune of the Ducktales theme song or Blue Suede Shoes. If you don't know them, look it up. They're both really good.

"And that's why milkshakes are the drink of the gods!" Peach sang, ending the song. After that, everyone went back to eating as if nothing had happened. Link was dumbfounded.

"What the heck was that?" Link asked.

"Doesn't matter! Just buy me a milkshake and a burger!" Peach put on her puppy-dog face. "Please...?"

Link looked at her, and at Cookie, who was making the same face. "Arg... Fine." He took out his wallet. Seventy rupees... If he was lucky he would still have twenty after today.

"Yay! Maybe one day Zelda will recognize you!" Peach mocked. She then reached into his pocket and took out his wallet.

"Hey! What're you doing!" Link asked, grasping for the wallet.

"Ordering food, silly! Go get us a table! I'll get you something too, don't worry." Link got a table in the corner of the table, away from anyone else.

Unfortunately, that didn't stop someone from walking up to him. A young man sat across him and looked intensely at him. He had white-blonde hair, a really hardcore pair of overalls, a blue-gray turtleneck, a shoulder pad on his left shoulder (that looked like a sea mine), and a huge sword that was probably compensating for something.

"I see you are a swordsman as well." The man said, looking at Link's sword. He had a cup with him.

"Yeah."

"I have traveled far and wide looking for the best swordsman out there." He took a gulp.

"Oh?" He knew where this was heading, but he did not care.

"I've beaten all of them."

"I see." Link started petting his cat lazily.

"I recently went to an audition to a certain tournament, in hopes of fighting the so called best-of-the-best." He clenched his cup tightly.

"How'd it go?"

"I was rejected." He broke the cup in his hand. "But, I was lucky enough to run into you... Link." He stood up, unsheathed his sword, and pointed it at Link. "You were foolish to come to the swordsman bistro, where swordsman come to stab each other. Now I will prove to be the ultimate swordsman and kill you!" He slashed at Link, who merely ducked in his chair.

Another swordsman, who saw everything unfold, stood up. "Wait, Link is here?" He said loudly.

Everyone within the bistro turned their attention to Link, who wasn't even wearing his usual tunic.

"Whoever kills him gets to be the ultimate swordsman!"

"I call dibs!"

"Back off!" Cloud yelled to the advancing men. "He's mine!"

"Gosh, do we have to do this here?" Link sighed. "Fine." He unsheathed his sword, and, still holding Cookie in his other arm, unleashed a flurry of slashes and stabs that pushed Cloud back a considerable amount. "You guys wanna dance? Let's dance."

He jumped into the crowd of swordsman, slashing and cutting anyone who came at him. Cookie was also clawing anyone who happened to get within reach of it. Anyone who was struck fell to the ground, unconscious. We don't believe in blood here at Smashventures. Unless it's absolutely necessary.

Meanwhile, Peach was gossiping to a waitress about who-knows-what, oblivious to the fighting going on. Tables were being smashed and chairs were being slashed. Cue epic bar fight scene! Or a Jackie-Chan styled fighting scene. Whichever one you prefer.

Link had actually teamed up with Cloud to fight the crowd, and the two of them managed to take out the whole bar within two minutes.

Panting, Link, who was still holding Cookie, looked at Cloud, who was also panting. "You're actually pretty good."

"Thanks. You're not bad yourself." They shook hands, and exchanged the top secret swordsman handshake.

"Maybe one day I'll see you again. Then we'll fight." Link said.

"Yeah." Cloud replied.

They have one final bro-hug, and parted ways. Cloud walked out of the bar, and Link walked over to Peach, who was still chatting with a waitress. The waitress was wearing an orange maid-outfit.

"Hey, Peach. You get the food?" Link asked.

"Oh, yeah! Here's the leftover money." She handed him two blue rupees.

"..." Link just looked at the rupees in disbelief, shook his head, and sat down.

"Oh, and meet Maya the waitress, my new friend!" Peach said.

"Nice to meet you, Link!" Maya nodded. "I'm actually just being a waitress for now. I'm actually an Ace Apprentice!"

"Oh. Nice! " Link said, taking a gulp out of his milkshake. "Oh, -, my favorite flavor!"

...

"And that's when you walked in." Peach said.

"Wait, you met, Cloud and beat thirty other swordsman with one hand?" Toon Link asked in wonder.

"Nah, me and Cookie did." Link said. "This cat's not that bad after all." Cookie smirked.

"Well, I guess that solves all of our questions..." Villager said. "Except one."

"Oh, and what is that?" Peach asked.

"Why are you and Link both tinted blue?"

"Yeah, why are you blue? As in, the color?" Asked Maya.

"Oh... That's a story for another day. I guess." Link chuckled. "Long story short, we sorta became Smurf deities."

"Oh. Of course." Toon Link said. He decided not to prod any further in that matter.

"Hey, we should buy you some food!" Peach said. She coughed and nudged Link. "Ahem!"

"Huh? What?" Link asked. He was too engrossed in his ten-rupee smoothie.

"I said that we should get the two boys something to eat!" Peach said. "I'll just take that!" She snatched the last two rupees from him.

"Hey, no!" Link cried.

"Aw, are these your kids?" Maya asked.

"What? No, we're not even married..." Link mumbled, but he wasn't heard because Villager spoke up.

"Cmon, Link! We know you just love Peach!"

"Hey, so should I order the thirty rupee smoothies? You'll be in debt, but I think that's fine." Peach yelled from the counter.

Link tried to stop all of this, to no avail.

"Link!" Toon Link cried. "Don't just stand there and let them do this to you! Say something!"

Link couldn't take it anymore. With a deep breath, he shouted, in his most intense voice, the loudest scream that he ever made, and pointed at the "criminals" who were mocking/robbing him.

"Objection!"

A/N: If you don't know who Maya is... then too bad, I guess.

Suggestions appreciated! Caught spelling errors needed! Many thanks!

Since schools out, I might be able to make much more chapters! But Splatoon...

I'll try though! Until next chapter!
