Chapter 34: Arise Lord Hal
Hal's P.O.V
"You've drank blood haven't you?" Sophie asked in a hushed tone as she blocked the door to our room.
"No."
"Hal, you have." She stated adamantly still blocking my exit; I had late last night after everything that had happened I had a moment of weakness.
"Sophie…I'm…"
"You could have told me, shared some with me." She said as she moved closer to me, her hand cupping my cheek. When had she lost control? "What do they say? Sharing is caring Hal."
"Sophie, stop this." I murmured gripping her hands gently, but she simply moved closer resting her head on my shoulder and nuzzling into my neck. I could slowly feel my control waning.
"Just a little taste, please Hal." She breathlessly whispered as her lips moved down my neck, maybe I should let her after all I had failed myself.
"Sophie…" I felt her fangs against my jugular but I couldn't make myself stop her, instead I let go of her hands and wrapped an arm around her waist and my other hand cupped the back of her threading my fingers through her hair. I hissed as her fangs broke my skin, the feeling bringing back all memories as I held her closer to me. "Sophie…"
Tom's P.O.V
Hal and Sophie had been acting rather off, maybe it had been all that had happened with Crumb and Mr Rook or maybe they were just moping around the place thinking about old times when they had actually been alive and not, well blood thirsty monsters. I guess thinking of yourself as a blood thirsty monster would be a big downer to your mood, so I guess you couldn't blame either of them.
"Hello?" A girl's voice called from the front desk, strange that Hal wasn't currently up front greeting the few guests that walked in.
"Hi, sorry about the wait, what can I do for you?" I answered leaving the cleaning to be done after dealing with this guest. She was a real beautiful gal, who seemed a bit down on her luck. "Need a room for the night?"
"Yeah, sign outside said there were vacancies." She replied looking around the place, she definitely seemed like she was nervous to be here. Maybe her situation wasn't that great, then again there wasn't an awful lot of up market hotels around Barry.
"Of course, let's just get you checked in." I said opening up the log book Hal had kept so pristine; he wasn't here to check her in so it was down to me. "Just need your name, please."
"Natasha Miles."
"Right, here you go Natasha. You'll find your room on the second floor, it's the third door on the right." I said cheerfully handing over her room key and pointing over towards the main stairs in the foyer. "Enjoy your stay."
Sophie's P.O.V
"What have you done?" Hal asked as he took the log book from the front desk and was cradling it in his arms like you would a child. He was looking at Tom accusingly, who was cleaning up the dining room.
"A customer came in, neither of you were at the desk, so it were up to me." He explained which you couldn't blame him for taking up the initiative to step in when Hal and I were otherwise occupied. "Where were you two anyway?"
"Shopping."
"Cleaning." Hal looked back at me somewhat alarmed before turning back to face Tom, who didn't seem too suspicious of us. "Shopping for cleaning supplies."
"You know how he is with his cleaning Tom. It's got to be perfect and running out of supplies would be a bad thing. A very bad thing." I explained hoping that Tom would somewhat just accept the explanation which he did seem to as he continued to clean the dining room. I took Hal aside and well out of earshot of Tom. "We need to be more careful."
"What makes you think we are not immediately stopping this?"
"Hal, we both know how this goes. You fall off the bandwagon, you take me with you and there are corpses lining the streets." I stated to which he sighed and turned his back on me. "All it takes is a drop of blood and you've already lost control."
"Do you listen to yourself?" he all but hissed as he turned round, eyes showing just how furious he was. "What would Leo think?"
"You will always bring that up won't you? Leo isn't here Hal, what's he going to do?"
"This isn't you. You think I've lost control, but it's really you who has this time." He was trying to keep his voice as low as possible to make sure Tom didn't over hear any of this conversation if he just so happened to pass by the room we were in. "Do you even think what would happen if Tom or Alex heard you right now?"
"What that little puppy and the whore you killed?" I laughed which just made him even more furious. "You really think I care in the slightest what they think of me? Here I thought the true Hal was on the return, maybe I was wrong." I turned to leave but as soon as my hand touched the handle, he gripped my arm halting me from exiting.
"You dare do anything stupid…"
"What Hal? What would you do?"
"You don't even want to think about what I'd do." He growled before letting go of my arm and exiting the room before I could even respond. Maybe I was right and Lord Hal was going to return and return quite soon. Whatever was going to occur was surely going to be the most fun I'd had in fifty five years of being sober.
Hal's P.O.V
The exchange with Sophie still plagued my mind along with the ebbing lust for blood. She'd lost control and if she wasn't monitored closely she would surely start wreaking havoc.
"Tom have you seen Sophie?" I asked as I returned to the front of the hotel, having looked over the entirety of the backrooms to find her and not finding a trace of her.
"She popped out to get more supplies, said you'd forgotten something." He replied as he stopped dusting the front desk. "Is something the matter with the two of you?"
"No, just you know after everything that's been happening lately, I think its best we make sure we know where everyone is." I explained hoping he'd just accept that answer.
"That's real sweet Hal. You know what the pair of you has, anyone would kill for."
"What do you mean?" I knew where he was going with this, but it was probably best to engage in his small talk especially if it meant he wasn't going to be suspicious of us.
"You've been together for over five hundred years, nowadays people don't even make it five months before they've broken it off." He explained although clearly neglecting the whole vampire thing.
"I mean we wouldn't have lived this long if you know…"
"You weren't vampires, I know but still how many vampires stay with the same person for so long?" he mused which was an accurate observation, many vampires got fed up of whoever they were spending eternity with and one or two had ended up amongst the dead because of this. "You got something special Hal, something people like me only dream about."
Sophie's P.O.V
In this day and age, it was incredibly easy to find someone who was willing to give up their blood just for a little bit of cash or even just because they adored the vampire culture. An hour or so after leaving the hotel, I'd managed to find two people who gave up some blood for me and had ultimately uplifted my mood since this morning.
"Hey Alex, where are the boys?" I asked as I returned to the hotel only finding Alex hanging out around the front room, with no one else in the vicinity it was fine to address her as being in the room.
"I was about to ask you the same. We really need a meeting, like right now." She replied in a hurry clearly wanting to discuss something important.
"A meeting? About what exactly?"
"You know the guest here, Captain Hatch? Well there's something incredibly wrong about him." She answered I'm not entirely sure what she meant by wrong, was he ill? Or was she insinuating he was part of the supernatural realm?
"What do you mean by that?" I asked quickly looking into the dining room where he'd generally be found and he was not there.
"All the suicides here, and everything that's ever gone wrong here. I think it's due to him." She explained, but how could she know that? How could anyone link suicides to an old man who was wheel chair bound?
"Alex, he can't possibly be doing that."
"And you can't possibly be over five hundred years old, and yet you are." She retorted a fair point but not something that could prove that Captain Hatch was something out of the ordinary and not just an old man living in the hotel.
"What proof have you got that he is linked to any of the events here?" I asked and then a thud was heard upstairs; however I ignored it for now wanting to hear Alex out and avoid any questions as to suspicious behaviour.
"Erm…well that's where you three come in."
"We can't just route through the personal belongings of a guest." I stated to which she sighed and nodded along, before she then perked up as if she thought of something else.
"But I can."
"Alex you…damnit!" Before I could iterate my displeasure in this idea she was already gone, I quickly ran upstairs to try and stop her from doing something that could be entirely stupid and a waste of time, but I was cut short in my endeavours.
"Out of my way!" Hal and Tom were in the hallway arguing over something as I approached the pair turned towards my presence.
"Both of you, your both…"
"Drinking blood again, bit slow to the uptake aren't you Tom? No wonder everyone leaves you behind." Hal had returned and by the smirk on his face it was time for some fun. "We're leaving."
"The hell you are!"
"Oh what fun, the dog is trying to stop me." And with that Hal gripped Tom by the front of the shirt and threw him to the ground. Before turning to me and grabbing my arm.
"You killed her!"
"I killed Alex too, she'll get over it." Hal hollered as he pulled me down the stairs and out of the hotel. "Now my dear, I think it's time for some fun!"
