Alien Wasteland
Chapter One
Ben Tennyson, hero of the Omnitrix, didn't know where he was. Or he did and he didn't. It seemed to be some kind of Earth, but one which had become a wasteland. Similar to the world of the punk Ben he had experienced with the other bad Bens and Maltrunt. Basically a place of human settlement which had been completely destroyed by something. Which is why he was looking for anyone or anything friendly in this ruined town of only a few buildings, most broken splinters. Trying to get his barings on where to go next.
It was as he turned a corner, listing to the strange floating machine which was blasting patriotic music and messages from the president, he saw her coming up towards him. She was an asian woman in a dirty blue jumpsuit, with some kind of baseball bat on her side. As well as a gun of some type, aimed at him like he was a threat. She called out to him, "Who are you?"
"I'm Ben Tennyson. This is gonna sound weird, but I don't know where I am. I also don't want to get shot. So just tell me what to do to avoid that." said Ben as he tried to look as harmless as possible.
"Trying to decide if you're a threat. I don't think so. Names is Janet Li, and I'm looking for someone. I'm guessing if you don't know where you are, you wouldn't know where he is. So how did you get to the Capital wasteland?" she asked, still pointing the gun.
"Not sure, most of my life is full of strange stuff. So appearing somewhere I don't know suddenly and for no reason... it happens." said Ben, as he tried to think on what to do. He could use the Omnitrix, but changing into an alien in front of a nervious young woman with a gun... would be a bad idea.
"Not much choice. Can't keep this up all day. Can't shoot you cause you haven't tried to hurt me... yet. So as long a we're clear, you turn against me and I'll end you. So I am putting the gun down, but if you raise one, you best hope you kill me on the first shot." said the young woman as she put her weapon back in it's holster. She kept her brown eyes on him, as she continued to judge his character.
"Should I ask where you are from, or where you are going?" asked Ben, hoping to not make her upset but also to learn more.
"I was from Vault 101, till everything went wrong. Now I'm looking for my father. Problem is, I don't know where to start. I assume because you don't have any idea where you are, you have no idea where to start." she said, as she seemed a little annoyed and confused.
"I have been exploring this town for a bit, and there is a huge make shift sign point to some place name Megaton. If that's a town or something, there would be people and someone who knows this place better then the two of us. If you're point a gun at me because you don't know me, not sure if visiting Megaton is a dangerous idea." said Ben, trying to help as this woman was the only person he had seen in this place. Other then the robot sphere, which may have presidential broadcasts which could or could not be recorded.
"Better then nothing. Best not to go in with guns blazing since I would be outnumbered. Even if you have a weapon. Best to go in there nice and peaceful, avoid trouble unless we have to." she said as she then motioned for him to lead her to the sign and it's direction.
It didn't take too long follow the rough path to the massive metal structure, which seemed to be guarded by a primative sci-fi robot, with some kind of homeless person at the side. The robot spoke up as they approached, "Welcome to Megaton. The bomb is perfectly safe. We promise."
Her turned to Janet and said, "Bomb. A town called Megaton has a bomb. Not a good sign."
But that was all he could say before the gates of the metal stucture seemed to shake and move, opening up to the inner gate. They move foreward and through it as they entered a town in a crator, with a black man in a cowboy hat and long coat standing nearby.
"Well, I'll be damned. You're from that vault! Vault 101! Ha ha! I ain't seen one of those jumpsuit in a LONG time." said the man who walked up to them. He continued towards Ben, "But you don't look like anybody I have ever seen before."
He continued with a speech, "Name's Lucas Simms, town sheriff. And mayor too, when the need arises. I don't know why but I like the two of you. Something tells me you're all right. So welcome to Megaton! Just holler if you need something.
"Nice town you got here, sir." said Ben as he tried their plan of being nice and polite.
It was rewarded, "Friendly and well-mannered? I think we're gonna get along just fine. You treat my people nice and you're welcome to stay as long as you'd like.
"Right. Message recieved." continued Janet as she felt it was her turn to comment.
"I'm glad we understand each other. Now, is there something I can help you with?" the bearded sheriff answer them back.
"I'm looking for my father. Middle-age man. Maybe you have seen him?" asked Janet, her mission to follow her parent coming to the surface, as Ben didn't have much of an idea of what he was going to do.
"Nope, sorry. I got enough fires to put out in this place that I don't have time to keep tabs on every visitor. I'd ask around town." he finished up what he knew about any newcommers.
Ben figured if they could help Simms with his problems, he might be in a better state to remember what new people were coming into town, so the alien hero asked, "Let's talk about the bomb."
"What about it?" asked the Sheriff, as he was curious on Ben was going to ask.
Janet was watching Ben continue the conversation, "Don't you think someone should disarm that thing?"
"I don't trust any of the locals to tinker with it. Besides, most people don't even reaize it's still a threat. And hell, Cromwell and those crazies from the Church of the Atom, they worship the damn thing. Why? Do you think you got the know-how to disarm it? For good?" asked the black man as he became hopeful.
"I have the ability to gain the know-how... but it might freak out the locals. Even you and Janet, which is why I haven't used it since I didn't want to get shot. The other problem is you won't believe my ability unti you see it, which is when you and the others might get a little gun happy." said Ben, which perked up Simms and even Janet who looked at him funny and a little crossed.
"Just as long as the damn thing is dead, truly and completely. I'm willing to pay 100 caps. I'll want to see what this strange ability is. But not out in the open. Best to use it in a place away from the town. My house then. Follow me." he said, as he lead the two of them to a house near the gate.
Janet commented, "You are going to tell me everything. Sooner or later, or else I'm kicking your ass."
They were soon in a house made out of left over metal from something, with basic funiture and chairs. With food and other stuff, including a bobblehead. Janet spoke up, "Can I have that bobblehead?"
"Sure, why not. Just something I got to see if my son wanted it, but he's outgrown it. So mister whatever your name is? What ability do you have?" asked Lucas as he waited for Ben to show him why he was so unusual the townspeople would freak.
"This watch I am wearing, isn't a watch. It's an advance alien device called an Omnitrix which allows me to transform into any number of aliens with superhuman abilities. Like superstrength... or super-intelligence." said Ben as they looked like he had lost his mind. Which was why as he talked, he had prepared to use when he stopped talking.
Hitting the button, a holographic screen popped up with it's faces which represented the aliens he used. This stopped them from seeing him as an escapee from a mental institute, but now in wonder and worry at the device. Ben turned the dial so he could select an alien which he could transform into within the area of the house and hopefully not scary enough to freak the two other humans. Which meant human size or smaller, who looked like something which would not kill or eat them.
Hoping that the Omnitrix would give him something like that, and not pull out a glitch which would do the exact opposite of what he wanted. Mentally crossing his fingers, he pushed down the faceplate as he had it on the alien he wanted to change into. Then he felt his body twist as it was reformed.
