A/N: Alrighty, this one is a shorty it was a bit tricky to write. I wanted to give some of Luke's POV just so his thoughts kind of became a little clear. Luke of course is convinced he's doing the right thing. Poor baby Rey in the next chapter we're going to see her learn to deal with growing 9 years in two days. Let me know what y'all think!

Chapter 14

Luke was determined. He ran across the island with purpose towards his cottage. He wouldn't hesitate this time, he would act on his instincts he wouldn't fail the galaxy again. As he entered his hut he went to his desk and picked up the light sabre Rey had returned to him. He'd insisted on keeping it until she left the island after she'd had an accident with a boulder and the natives cart. She relented the weapon easily at the time feeling ashamed and embarrassed.

Luke had hoped Rey would be different, but she was proving to fall down the same hole Ben had. If this time had been like the others he would have just erased her memories again, but after seeing her vision of Ben he knew it wouldn't work this time. If Ben had come to her that meant it was already to late.

He didn't like playing with her mind, but he didn't have a choice. The first time Chewie had returned after her first year on the island Rey was determined to leave with him. She'd been adamant that she had to go back to Ben and help bring back the light in him, she was being a naïve child so he'd stopped her. He tore through her mind erasing the memories of her planned escape and it's desire but he kept the training. It was what was best for her, so it had to be done. The first time she'd gone to the dark side of the island was hard on both of them. The cave had tempted her with Ben's voice and whispered promises of his return and safety. That was when the darkness had leached into her permanently, sure Luke had done everything in his power to erase the memories but he couldn't cleanse her of the darkness so he did what he could to make her forget. He'd changed her lessons to focus more on physical training and meditation and less on force use, the more she pushed herself into the force the harder it would be for him to shape her mind as he needed.

He was doing what was best for her and the galaxy. He told her Snoke was manipulating her even from across the galaxy and while he could feel Snoke's presence more than once the reality was that Snoke had come through her not through the galaxy. She was like a beacon to the dark, her light was screaming to be challenged and extinguished. Maybe it wasn't Snoke that had manipulated her memories, but it had to be done. He didn't want her to know the truth about her parentage. A couple of dark side users bent on hiding their child from both the light and the dark, raising her in the edges of the galaxy to keep her out of the war of good versus evil. Luke had sensed her power from across the system and even with her parents making their best attempts to keep her hidden Luke knew he wasn't the only one who could feel her presence. Sure Ben had been with him, Ben was the reason Luke hadn't searched the desert to find the child and her mother. Ben was angry when Luke allowed her father to die even pulled his light sabre on him and threatened him. Luke just apologized and they left. It wasn't long after that Ben revolted into the dark side with Snoke destroying the academy and his fellow pupils. Luke knows pulling his light sabre on Ben was only part of the reason Ben had turned away from the light. Ben didn't believe in what Luke was doing anymore and that was in part Rey's fault.

Luke was shocked when he began his hunt across the galaxy for the first jedi temple and he felt her presence still on Jakku. He was sure her mother would have done a better job of hiding her then that, he let his curiosity get the better of him. He went to her. She was a tiny child now owned by a man who wanted nothing more than to make as much money as possible. Luke could tell by looking at her that she was special, different from the others. Even if he couldn't sense the force in her he would have known, she was beaten, starved and utterly alone but there was still a fire burning in her a light that kept her moving forward. No, she wasn't like anyone he'd ever encountered before, so he decided to teach her to protect herself. Only the basics but enough to help her survive, he wanted to take her but he recalled his last attempt to have her and thought better of it, so he left her in the care of Unkar Plutt.

Luke didn't return to Rey with the same haste he left her, he took his time walking back dreading what he had to do. He couldn't let her leave Ach-To, it would be too risky. She had no chance of saving Kylo Ren, if Luke was being honest with himself, he lost his faith in Ben a long time ago.

As Luke entered the hut where he left Rey he was surprised to see she was gone. Surely he had knocked her out longer than that. He used the force to reach out and find her and chuckled. She was concealing herself from him, of course, using his own teachings against him, it wouldn't matter for long there weren't many places she could hide on the island.

As Luke darted out of her hut Rey took a minute to collect and calm herself. She couldn't let her panic get the better of her, especially not with Luke, it would be easy for him to outsmart and over power her, especially in her current state. She pulled herself to her feet using her cot as support, with shaking knee's she left. She didn't know where to go but she had to get away, Luke was going to come back for her. Her ears were buzzing and her mind was fuzzy but she hobbled away as quickly as she could, stumbling a few times but never falling completely. She used her first lesson from Luke to hide her force signature.

Rey's first thought was to go back to the dark place, in all her time on the island that she could remember Luke had avoided it, but then she felt something call to her from across the island. It was a different feeling than when the pit had called to her, this wasn't a voice it was a physical yearning like her very soul was being dragged towards it. She couldn't deny it, it was to strong so she let the force call her and she followed. She was led to a large old tree that Luke had shown her once or twice. Rey knew that the tree held artifacts from Luke's journey's and the ancient jedi texts.

Rey entered the tree and the pull grew stronger, she thought it was leading her to the jedi texts but was surprised when she saw a necklace with a small red crystal hanging on the edge of the shelf. Rey felt pain and unimaginable grief exuding from the gem and she couldn't help but pick it up resting the crystal delicately on the palm of her hand. Why had this called to her? Why was it in such pain? As soon as the crystal touch her skin Rey felt a strange clarity come across her mind and she suddenly remembered she was running from Luke Skywalker. She was scared to reach out with the force, fearing it would give away her location but she knew regardless she wouldn't be able to hide for long. She pulled the necklace over her head and made her way back out of the tree cave and there he was, Luke Skywalker standing across the valley waiting for her.

"Luke please" Her voice came out weak filled with desperation.

"I made the mistake once Rey, I can't let you leave this island. I can't let you go to Kylo Ren, this won't end the way you think" Neither of them made a move standing locked in each other's gaze.

'Please, please' She prayed to the force. She needed help. Her body and mind were too weak to face against Luke Skywalker and he knew it, they both did.

Luke raised a hand and took a few steps towards her, he was pushing into her mind again making an effort to distort her memories. Rey let out a cry in pain and pressed her hands to her temples using whatever strength she could muster to keep him at bay.

"Don't fight it Rey, I will make this as painless as possible" Another step towards her slow and deliberate as he pressed against her mind harder. Rey just shook her head rejecting him. The closer Luke got the more his power weighed down on her soon he was only three feet from her and Rey collapsed to her knee's letting out a shriek in pain. "You leave me no choice Rey" He pulled the light sabre from his belt igniting it with a burst of blue light. Rey was barely aware of her surroundings, bent over her knee's hands on her head in agony sending silent prayers for the pain to stop, for Luke to see reason.

Luke raised his light sabre over her preparing to strike her down when a shot rang out across the valley and Luke fell to the ground beside her. The pain finally stopped but Rey's mind was still swimming with echoes of the mind warping as she looked up.

"Poe" barely even a whisper and she let her body succumb to the torture she'd been enduring.

Sure enough Poe Dameron rushed to her side laying her back trying to get her to wake up. A few high pitched beeps rang out and BB-8 appeared rolling over the hill.

"I know B. We have to get her back to the ship" He said pulling Rey over his shoulder. Another cluster of beeps and Poe laughed a little. "She's still small, but not as light as I remember" Poe gave Luke Skywalker a disappointed look and carried Rey away.

Rey awoke sitting up abruptly and looking around. This place was familiar but felt like something out of a distant dream.
"You're awake! How are you feeling?" It was Poe standing up from a table he'd been sitting at walking towards her. Rey was still trapped in a daze but swung her legs around and made to stand up. "Whoa, slow it down" Poe said pushing her back in the bunk. "take it easy Rey. Let me get you a cold compress for your head just lay back down alright?" She decided to do as he instructed laying back down slowly. Her head didn't really hurt anymore but she felt confused like her mind had been put through a blender. She slowly drifted back out of consciousness as she felt someone brushing her hair back from her face rubbing their fingers through her hair smoothly. It was a comforting feeling, relaxing and for the first time in a while Rey felt safe and taken care of.

She dreamed of Ben erg… Kylo Ren as he demanded to be called now. He was in a room she recognized but like the bunk on the millennium falcon felt so distant.

"What are you doing here?' His voice erupted from his bed where he laid reading a datapad not bothering to look at her from it.

"I don't know" Her voice was still weak and echoed the same confusion she felt. "I've been here before, right?" That question caught his attention as he sat up setting his datapad down.

"of course you have, this is where we met" He looked into Rey's eyes and felt nothing but concern. She didn't look herself her usual vibrant green and gold eyes looked nearly gray and her tan skin was an unsettling shade of white. She didn't appear like a vision this time as she had the last, no she looked more like a ghost now than anything.

"Luke was doing something to me" She wouldn't look at him as she admitted it, in truth she was ashamed for not being strong enough to realize what was happening to her sooner. "He was erasing my memories, or something. You were right" The last part was a whisper as she finally looked up at him with dead eyes. "He was going to kill me"

Kylo clenched his fist and he went to her relieved when he discovered he could put a hand on her shoulder and feel the warmth of her body against his gloves, without thinking he pulled her against him tightly wrapping his arms around her in a tight hug.

"You've gotten so big" His voice shook slightly as he let one of his hands cradle the back of her head. Rey felt comfortable in his arms, she unknowingly spent years thinking about him. She could feel his anguish over missing her, searching for her.

"I'm sorry Ben, I should have known" Rey refused to cry in front of him, she didn't want him to know how weak she felt in that moment she just wanted to enjoy his embrace. Rey felt him then brushing the edge of her mind with his, he needed to know what had happened. Demanded to know, so Rey let him in.

Ben's hold on her tightened as the years flashed before them surrounding them in a jumble of memories. Ben mumbled something to her but Rey couldn't understand it but she felt something in her mind snap and a flood of burning filled not only her mind but her body. Suddenly she recalled things she hadn't before. Luke Skywalker standing over her, the migraines she'd suffered from for days after he'd torn her apart. The memories of the times Chewie came back for her, there were dozens and they all ended the same. Rey begging Luke to let her go back to Ben pleading with him and Luke refusing her pleas. He would break her leave her in a mess on the floor of her cottage desperately trying to remember what had happened. Ben saw memories of Rey crying alone at night desperate for leave the island and return to him. In the midst of her suffering she'd broken to the point of even calling to Snoke to help her escape Luke Skywalker and his torture.

As soon as he released the memories he wanted to take them back. Kylo hadn't expected what he saw, he hadn't thought his uncle was capable of the kind of torture Rey had endured, but of course Luke Skywalker wouldn't see what he was doing as torture. As he saw Rey's last memory on the island his fury flared and he held onto her tighter pressing her into his chest. His anger ebbed when he looked down at Rey and saw her comfort with him. Her eyes were closed gently and her hands were resting on his chest pressed between their bodies. It was that moment when a thought occurred, 'When had Rey become so beautiful'. He could still feel the light in her but it wasn't burning like it had before now it was a peaceful glow that seemed to shine from within her. He felt the darkness in her, he had felt it before when she was with him but it was far stronger now. He didn't want her to be afflicted with the same internal conflicts he was but he couldn't help himself from imagining her practicing the dark sides of the force, it left a strange desire in him he'd only felt on a handful of occasions. He pushed her back from him.

"I'm going to come for you Rey. Tell me where you're going." Ben's voice was stern it was a command not a question, but Rey shook her head in refusal.

"I can't lead you to them, they trust me and I have to protect them" She wanted to see him again but he couldn't abandon her friends, not without seeing them one more time at least. She felt a whirl wind of emotions coming from him, pain, anger, rejection. "I'll come to you Ben I always planned to come back to you"

"You think they'll just let you leave?" It was his anger that manifested in his voice and his glare down at her.

"I won't let you hurt my friends Ben" Her voice was soft and quiet, he turned away from her sharply ramming his first into the wall causing Rey to jump and step back.

"Don't call me that Rey" He turned his head to look at her and she saw the darkness had clouded his eyes with a coldness that had never been directed at her before. "I can't let the resistance get away Rey, it's best if we don't see each other again" Rey swore her heart cracked at his words.

"No Ben! I just… no, don't you feel it between us?" She reached a hand out to him but he slapped it away. As Rey felt her heart break Kylo Ren was sure he could see it in her eyes as she cradled her hand to her chest. "I will come for you Ben Solo" her eyes went from broken to raging.

"If I find you Rey, I will have to bring you back to Snoke." There was a tone of finality to his words, he wasn't threatening her that was a promise she knew he'd have no choice but to keep.

Rey couldn't help the small sad smile that appeared on her face. "Then so be it" and she was gone, the connection had broken.

Ren let out a scream in rage and destroyed everything in his sight he could get his hands on. Snoke would punish him for his outburst but Kylo couldn't hold the rage in any longer. The little girl who'd vanished from his life years ago returned as a beautiful young woman only to sign her own death certificate. Ben was determined to do whatever it took to keep her away and it might work for a while but he knew she would come to him.
Ben thought Rey had abandoned him years ago to be with the resistance and Luke Skywalker. When she vanished from the Star Killer base with that traitor he thought for sure she was turning her back on him. The memories he saw of Luke brain washing her and holding her hostage on some island gave him a spark of hope. He had never wanted Rey to be hurt or tormented in ways like he was and while Skywalker's methods were different Ben couldn't help but feel they were even more cruel than Snoke. Snoke was a liar and a manipulator but he rip away pieces of Kylo's mind in order to get what he wanted, no Snoke would rather use physical pain and emotional manipulation rather than old Jedi mind tricks. Kylo clenched his fist, no Luke Skywalker would pay for the pain he'd put Rey through, for keeping Rey away from him. He would kill Luke Skywalker.
