Two years…

It's been two years since I started my training. Master Kane says I progressed well. I'm my opinion though? I feel like I've barely moved. Sure, I've learned how to fight with weapon, and control my aura better. But I have yet to connect with my weapon again or even reactivate my semblance. The strange part of my semblance anyway…

My semblance is to, but…

I close my eyes and remember the time I activated it. The fight with Ursa when my town was under attack. I remember me feeling like I was in a completely different world. I remember the Ursa paw passing right through like nothing was there.

It didn't make sense. I always believed my semblance was to teleport to where my weapon was. Why do I have second semblance? Is even a semblance? If not what the hell is it? Question swarmed my mind, and I didn't have anyone to help me.

Master Kane was out on "Business" as he put it, but he hasn't been back in weeks. I've also realized how cooking for yourself sucks… especially when you live with a monk. All they fucking eat is vegetables and fruits basically. I haven't had meat in two years…

I look out towards my town. Sitting on the edge of the temple. I sighed and look to my weapon which is sitting right next to me.

"Wanna talk to me yet?" I asked my weapon…

Yeah, I'm going fucking crazy on this mountain. I rest my head on my hand. 'I wonder how that girl is doing?' I think remembering the beautiful heroine that saved me two years ago… I bet she's even more strong now then she was two years ago. Meanwhile, I've barely moved.

I fall onto my back and looked at my weapon. "Please, I just want to be stronger. I want to protect the people I love and make my family proud… please just help me out." I said closing my eyes.

"Are you sure that's what you want?" I heard a deep echoing voice say.

My eyes shot open and I noticed I was on top of a castle. It was raining, and my weapon was gone. I looked around and to find the owner of the voice, but everything was so dark.

"Who are you?!" I asked, demanding information. "Why am I here?!"

"You said you sought help did you not." I heard the voice say, I turned around saw in the black fog that surrounded me a silhouette of a person. "You said that you wished to become stronger, for your family, and for your friends… am I wrong?"

My eyes widen. How did he…

"But is that all you seek for?" I ask.

I don't answer and try to use my aura, but I didn't feel anything. Nothing happened. "What the hell is going on? Why can't use my aura?" I asked. I was taught to always use my aura to get a sense of your surroundings, but here I can feel aura around and I can't use it.

"your aura will not work Jaune Arc here, this place is your soul. You cannot use aura within this place because it made of your aura."

"And how would you know that!?" I asked.

The man finally stepped out of the black mist and into view. He had long black flowing hair, Blue eyes and a scar that led from his forehead to his chin on the right side of his face. "Because I have been here for two whole years…" he said. "I am the weapon you asked for help."

My eyes widened. He looked different then I thought he would. The rain slowed down and the mist lightened up a little bit. "You heard… "I said with realization.

"You have still not answered my question, Jaune Arc." He said. "Is what you asked for all you seek?"

"What do you mean?" I asked confused. "What else could I ask for?"

"If you cannot answer the question then I'll wait until you can…" He said, and then flicked his wrist and walked back into the mist.

"Hey wai- "I said before I was falling and landed in the middle of a campsite on my back. I stood up and looked around. This was differently not right. These men were carrying around dust candles to light up where they were walking. What is this? I got up off my ass and looked around. One was walking right towards me, "hey excuse me… "I said before he ended up walking through my body.

My eyes wide I look around again see someone. A man with a spear. The same man which claimed to be my weapon. Sitting alone with eyes closed. There was no scar present though. "Hey" I yelled over. He didn't answer. I started walking over but the scene changed again. Now we were on a battlefield. Except it wasn't Humans fighting Grimm it was Humans fighting Humans. I spun around only to see a man get cut down in front of my very eyes. I see that it the same man. Blood covered parts of his face, and his aura glowed around his body.

I fall in my butt looking up at him. What's going on… why is this happening? Why are we fighting each other like this? I look around see that everyone is using normal weapons. No mecha-shifting. Wait why aren't people using the norm weapons. This… what is this? I get up and try to grab the man's shoulder, but I just go through him.

Why… what is happening. People fight people? No new tech. I don't understand…

The scene changed again. It was a him on top of a building, looking over a beautiful town. It was snowing and nighttime. Lights around the town lit up making a beautiful view.

"It's a nice view isn't it?" I heard someone say. I then see a man walk through me. The man in question was an old man with white hair and was as tall as me.

The man claiming to be my weapon peeks over his shoulder and looks back to view. "It's beautiful, what do you think of it Arlo?" He asked the old man.

The old man chuckled, "we've had this conversation plenty of times already, lets talk about something else, shall we?"

He sighed not letting up his poker face. "what is it you want to talk about old man." He said.

He smiled, "you becoming one of these 'Hunters'… are you doing it for the right reasons?" he asked.

I look to the man a poker face still choosing his face.

" these hunters, they are to protect civilians and kill the creatures of Grimm. I'm not all you have to protect anymore. Are you willing to protect everyone?" Arlo asked, a serious tone in his voice.

He looked to the old man, named Arlo." I am going to protect you, while also protecting everyone in Mantle and everyone in this world." My weapon said giving a reassuring smile.

Mantle… wait… if I remember correctly…

" that's great…" Arlo said smiling.

The scene changed again, and It was darkness. There were no more memories.

I don't understand what's happening. Why would he say mantle? Its atlas now. Wait… the old tech, the old weapons. People fighting people. This… this is the past… and if I remember correctly… The great war. He was in the great war… but why show me this stuff?

The scene changed again. This time, I was in a forest next to open sea. The man standing in front of a boat, his face bloodied and a long gash on the left of his face running from his forehead to his chin. "Arlo, go. Vale is only a couple hours away."

Arlo looked at him his eyes wide. I will not leave you his eyes said. "you are my friend, you will come with me."

The man looks towards the forest. "you have no choice. I will protect everyone, not just you old man." He said spinning his spear and cutting the rope. The boat started drifting off. Arlo screaming to go back.

The man then walked through me and to the beginning of the forest. He got into a ready stance. I heard a roar, a stomp a white foot cam out the snowy forest and everything went dark.

Is that it? He died… why show me this?

I appeared back on the castle, it still slightly raining. The man again came out of the mist. "I don't understand." I said. "What answer you wanted."

His looked disappointed. "I showed you what will happen if you go down this path." He said, "the path of wanted to protect everyone."

"the path leads to your own destruction. Heroes always die." He said with a poker face. "is this the path you want? Because this is the path of Hunter."

This… this is the path of a hunter? To be killed trying to be a hero? But…

Jaune`s POV/ 10 years ago…

I watched my father pack. Another mission he was going on. he was strong though I knew he couldn't lose, but still, mom always said there is a chance he would come back, and we had to prepare for that.

"Dad, your gonna come back safe right?" I asked.

He stopped stuffing clothes in duffle bag and turn around. He looked at me in the eyes and sighed. He walked over to me on his bed and sat down next me. "listen son, my job is dangerous and one of these I will not come back. I'm sure of it…"

He gave me the cold hard truth. It hurt, but that was truth. It will always hurt. At least that's what my sisters say a lot, I finally understand now though. Being hunter sounds like a bad job, I don't understand them.

"or that's what a normal person would say. People are always saying a hunter's future is already set, train, protect, die. That's their destiny, they say."

Well that's depressing.

"but here the thing about Arcs and destiny. We're allowed to change destiny at will. So, when I heard that's the destiny of a hunter I said screw that. I'm going to change that destiny" he said, "I'm going to protect everyone and stay alive doing it."

I look at with wide eyes and for the first time. Being a hunter didn't seem so bad. Wanted to protect lives didn't seem bad.

Maybe I should become a hunter…

That memory. That memory tucked deep in the back of mind. A memory I would never forget.

"I don't care." I said to the man.

He looked at me intrigued.

"You say that's what being a hunter is about? That his is the path?" I said looking him in the eye. "Fuck your path… I'll create my own…"

I now stood on top of a castle surrounded by beautiful trees and clear sky's. "My father taught me what it means to be a hero, and you reminded me." I said looking towards him.

He looked at me in my eyes for a couple seconds. He closed his eyes and sighed. "My Name is…"

The words were almost like static in my ears, but the name came to my head like I memorized it.

Alagar was his name…

"Be gone." He said before flicking his wrist again. Before I knew it, I was opening my eyes in the real world again. I sat looked at my weapon… Alagar and stood up. Feeling new power surge through me.

Holding my spear in front of me, I close my eyes. Alagar's entire life came to my mind. How to use the weapon his, how to use his semblance, how to protect the one you love and more. Most importantly how to be a hero.

Seeing his life made realize. Alagar agreed with me too.

I can change the destiny of being a hunter.

Kane's POV

I open my eyes. The past couple of weeks of watching were stressful. He didn't understand how to connect with weapon, but I gave him enough hints it was his turn to finally do it.

And he did. I'm proud of him. He's grown so much in the past two years. Even if doesn't see it himself, he has.

But now…

I must prepare him for his final test…

Ozpins POV

Ruby Rose, without a doubt I know she will become a top tier huntress. Maybe even ranked higher then her uncle.

She can be a valuable addition to my team. But I doubt Glynda or James would accept me adding a young adult to our group.

What's to do what to do…

Bingo bongo… I have an idea! I'm glad I didn't say that out loud…

I pull out my scroll and dial Ms. Roses scroll. She answered rather quickly. "Yes, Headmaster Ozpin!" She said as she popped on the screen. Her hair was longer now, it reached her shoulders. She was starting to look more like her mother.

"Ms. Rose, I have an assignment for you." I said.

Ms. Xiao-long then came onto the screen "oh is that you headmaster- "She was then pushed off the screen by Ms. Rose. "And what would that be sir'?" She asked politely.

"You are to go on your first solo mission." I said, getting her eyes to go wide. "I want you in my office first thing in the morning. Understood?"

She saluted "Yes sir'!"

I smile and then hang up the phone. I open up one of my filing cabinets and pull out a file labeled, Frostling…

This will be a tough one. Especially with what happened later year… But I believe she can do it… she must prove herself…

Ruby's POV

Everyone in the room was standing in shock. Look at me who was looking at the floor.

"D-did I just hear that right?" Weiss said sitting on her bed.

I nodded.

"Alone?" Blake asked sitting at the desk her down for once.

I nodded again.

I looked up to Yang who was having a hard time processing the situation. I could tell what was going on. She didn't want me to go. A mission where she couldn't watch over me After what happened last year? And it not she could raise hell to the headmaster she already on thin ice as it is. With sitting Beacon Garden on fire and all.

"Yang…" I said.

She put her hand up and walked out to the door. "I have to think about this." She rather quickly and rushed out the room slamming the door behind her.

I sighed and sat down at my desk and leaned back into my chair. "Ruby, are sure you can handle a mission alone?" Weiss asked. "After what happened last year I can- "I stopped by putting my hand up.

"I can do this. I know I can." I said answering her question.

A year ago. Has it really been that long already? I put a hand on stomach where I can feel the scar tissue through my clothes. I close my eyes and take a deep breath.

Can I do this?
