Is this the "normal" update time for crossovers? I'll probably be updating faster once I get to the second book, cause then I can just go by the book but then since I don't have the first book, I have to compare it to the online book.
(Excuses, excuses~)
"Magic doesn't exist though. . ." Ed complained. He sulked while Winry continued to ignore him and read the letter along with Alphonse.
"A wizard! That's amazing Ed! If only I could be one too~" Winry wistfully spoke but was interrupted by Al.
"Then you would be a witch wouldn't you?"
Ed cracked up and so did Alphonse when he realized what he had said. Winry flushed but coughed to get their attention again. "Excuse me, but don't you have a letter to reply to?"
Ed hesitantly read the line that stated that they wanted a reply, "But. . .how does this magic work? I don't believe it. It goes against everything I was taught. "
"How about you write a letter Brother? I am kind of sure they have books on the subject. You can ask for some and some evidence that magic is real. Harmless question, if it is no good then you can just refuse," Al chipped in excitedly.
"Al! You are such a genius! Yes! Do that Ed! Come on, listen! Here, I will get you a paper and a pencil. Just write a reply!" Winry eagerly ran to her workshop. Ed tried to call after and stop her but she came back quickly with the pencil and pencil. She thrust it to the reluctant blond.
"I don't even have an owl. . . " Ed grumbled but took the paper anyways. "What to say. . .argh. . ."
Dear Minerva McGonagall,
The chance and opportunity given is nice, however, this "magic" you speak of is questionable. I would appreciate proof that magic exists before making any decisions.
Edward Elric
"There, is this good enough?" Ed grumbled and pushed the letter toward Alphonse.
"Its okay, you could be nicer but its fine, " Al smiled warmly and handed the letter back. "I wonder how magic works, " he smiled brightly and thought to himself.
Winry smiled at watching the interaction between the two boys. They began discussing possible outcomes for the instance where this "magic" was actually real. Ever since they were kids they were always so close and watching them discussing things like they would back then was nice. Maybe this time, they could have a proper childhood with children their "own" age.
Ed flushed while Alphonse laughed, "Bah, its not like I am going to fail as a student. I'm going to study- mind you. I am a genius you know?"
"Whatever you say brother," Alphonse waved Edward off dismissively, "So about the owl problem. . ."
Granny Pinako walked into the living room where they were discussing the existence of magic. "Here, this owl should work fine, its not that old."
"Why do you have an owl? Ed skeptically looked over the barn animal. It had a round flat pale face, chest and belly. It didn't look overly impressive, it wasn't big or anything like that. Just an old, boring owl that looked weak.
"Why, because Trisha went to the magic school too."
"What?! Mom did?" Al cried back in shock.
"Yes, your mom went to the school but she didn't want you boys knowing. I guess she thought you guys were better off with just alchemy. Maybe the letter missed you the first time around because you were training with your teaching. I don't know what kind of attitude she has towards magic after all. You might want to start studying or reading up. The magical community is quite a weird place, " Pinako rolled up Ed's letter and tied it to the leg of the owl. Then she flung it out of the window. "Don't get trampled Ed, there are lots of students that are taller than you, " she teased.
"Mom went to 'Hogwarts?' And I don't think I'm that short, " Ed muttered the last part. "Hopefully, I can get access to the books on this art before I do anything beforehand. I want to know how trustworthy this art is."
Pinako's grin dropped, "However Ed, you must be careful. There are ominous warnings of Voldemort's return."
"Moldywarts?" the two boys and one teen questioned.
"Vol-de-mort! He is a prominent figure in the wizarding world. He is infamous for his atrocious behavior and causing the death of multiple wizards and people alike. Supposedly he was destroyed a few years ago but there are sayings that he may or may not actually be dead. He is said to have great dark magic and isn't afraid to utilize it. Just a heads up."
Ed laughed, "I've known of people worse. He used dark magic but wasn't dark magic himself." Al nodded his head in agreement. As if Voldemort would actually cause too much trouble in Ed's magical education. (He couldn't actually be too threatening with that name.)
Ed shrugged, "Meh, this time I will have 'magic' on my side so I don't have to sweat it. Hopefully this 'magic' would be promising. Not like those parlor tricks. And its only a possibility, if he actually is still alive, my alchemy may be back too by the time. No sweat."
Al agreed. "I would like to know the reasoning behind magic too. Like, I would like to know how it works and if there are certain rules that the wizards or witches would have to follow."
Pinako frowned, "Worry later when the owl returns. Its time for dinner now, come on Alphonse, Al and Ed." Winry briefly looked back but followed her grandmother into the kitchen where the dinner table was already set.
"Brother, you'll be fine right?" Al asked with worry but in return Ed laughed.
"Why not? This might be the next big adventure I was waiting for! Race you to the kitchen!" Ed cried and Al protested when Ed picked up a nearby pillow and threw it at him- and they both ran for the kitchen.
"Dumbledore? You have a reply, " Professor McGonagall handed the bearded man behind the desk a letter. She held a scruffy Northern Saw-whet owl in her other hand. "I think this is from Trisha Elric's son based off of the owl."
Dumbledore's eyes twinkled as he skimmed over the letter, "I shall depart tomorrow then. I doubt anyone will miss me here, " he winked, "What a year this will be!" He pulled out a piece of parchment and a quill and quickly scribbled his reply and rolled it up. Then he attacked the roll of parchment to the fluffy owl. The owl tooted and spread its wings and with a single sweep, it lifted itself and soared out of Dumbledore's room and out of the building.
"Have a nice trip Misty, " Dumbledore called after the small owl.

Next chapter will have the shopping and should be fairly acceptable. Thanks for sticking along~
(Mistakes or not, I love feedback! Oh, and I have reasons for the owl~)
