You know who is amazing! All the people who left a review and gave me something to consider! Let it be said that I am not easily offended so if you have any adjustment you would me to make or suggestions, I'll take 'em!
I feel like there wasn't much dialogue this chapter, that's fine too right?
Disclaimer : I don't own either Harry Potter or Fullmetal Alchemist! I'm not amazing enough .
Ed rubbed his tired eyes after reading through one of the many books in the library. He had yet to find out what the uneasy feeling he got in the school. After he had asked Draco, the kid had the nerve to look frightened then tell him he was an absolute fan of him. And so Ed told him he looked frightened. Then Draco had the nerve to ask Ed if he was a "muggle-lover." Let it be said that Ed controlled himself and didn't punch the kid in his self-confident way. However, he did push Draco onto a chair and transfigure such chair so that Draco shut up. It was pretty funny because no one believed Ed did it and Draco couldn't believe it himself.
Like the many other students in the library, Ed was doing his history assignment. Well, was. He was done a while ago but he wanted to further research the rivalry between the houses- literally all the houses disliked Syltherin and Slytherin disliked them back. It was ridiculous. No wonder the Slytherins were so hostile, it's self-protection from going insane!
There was some shuffling near the bookcase where Ed's back was facing. Putting the book down, he turned his body over. He saw Ron and Harry measuring their essay and he saw how both looked crestfallen. Deciding to greet them, Ed got up.
"Hey, how's it going?" Ed casually greeted and leaned on his elbow against the bookshelf.
Ron looked offended and quite honestly surprised that Ed actually approached him because he was a Slytherin. Then he hardened his expression.
"Why don't you go hang out with your Slytherin buddies huh?"
Ed raised a brow. It was very, very, very obvious now that Ron didn't like Slytherins. (However, if he didn't realize that before it meant he was an idiot)
"Well, it's clear to me that they finished their assignment themselves and that they have no urge to stay and read in the library."
Ron glared hotly at Ed and was going to pull Harry away but the green eyed boy turned to Ed first.
"Uh, how do you like it in Slytherin? Like. . . " the underlying question 'are you evil blooded like them' was left unsaid but Ed heard it somehow with his thick brain.
"Ah, they are quite different from what I expected, not too big different I would suppose. No, Snape isn't giving us torture lessons like how some people are thinking and no, not all the students in Slytherin hate you Harry. Its not anything really special I think," Ed shoved him hands into his robe pocket. Its only been like a week but nothing interesting had happened so far yet. And there was no difference if Slytherin students compared to other students- 'Other than the fact that Slytherin students are definitely not liked.'
Harry looked relieved and looked to try and give Ron a look. Ron grumbled, "Betcha most of them are You-Know-Who's supporters anyways."
"You know who? Who? Wait, lowercase or uppercase?" It was very confusing when people say the word 'you-know-who' and 'you-know-what' because there is always the question whether or not it was said with emphasis on a specific thing or general.
"Upper, " Harry helpfully supplied then he turned back to Ron, "I don't think the hat sorts them based on whether they support Vold-You-Know-Who or not."
Ed nodded in affirmation, "If I knew any better, they are the people who seem scared of him the most. What's so amazing about Moldy-wart anyways?"
"Hold on, how do you pronounce his name Ed?"
"Moldy-wart."
"I thought it was a V?"
"Huh? I thought it sounded like an M."
"Can you guys stop saying his name!" Ron hissed at the two who were discussing the proper pronunciation of You-Know-Who's name.
"I'll show you! Hold on, what do you guys consider that dude? Like, alchemist, healer, dark arts user, sorcerer-"
"Obviously Dark Arts!" Ron hissed at Ed and glared, how could anyone not know that?
"I was just kidding, calm yourself. You guys have a weird way of associating people by the way. Like, you guys are sure judgmental about people depending on their houses. You group people based on their house. Humor me, why?"
Ron fumed, "Uh, have you looked at the history of your house? None of those people turned out to be good!"
"So you say," Ed replied indifferently while wandering down the bookshelves.
"They were the main supporters of You-Know-Who!"
"That means that there were other supporters from other houses."
"They are untrustworthy!"
"That's your opinion. And there sir, you have lost, " Ed smirked and stopped at the shelf and grabbed a book on the shelf. "Once you start using your opinion as an argument, you have lost. Come again and tell me why it's bad to be in Slytherin."
Ed opened the book Dark Lords Attempting to Rule and frowned. "What a horrible book. It doesn't tell me anything. Your reporters are terrible, it's You-Know-Who after You-Know-Who. I mean, I know how to spell that. . ."
"So that means you don't support Volde-You-Know-Who?" Harry asked hopefully,
"Hah? Why should I? He doesn't sound like a guy I would like very much. Someone who thinks he can rule the world just because he is stronger than others. I hate people like who abuses their powers and uses it against other beings that are at a disadvantage. Like wizards vs. humans, " Ed darkly muttered. He hated how the homunculus had once looked down on humans as their playthings and it wasn't as if he would stop hating it.
Harry looked relieved but Ron just glared- Ed could honestly care less about what the other kid thought.
"Bah, Harry lets get going, " Ron muttered and pulled the robe of the boy out of the library. Harry looked reluctant but followed nevertheless.
Ed merely shrugged, balanced the closed book and wandered back to his seat.
"There's a troll in the school!"
Ed snapped his head up from the book he was reading. Finally! Something interesting! He quickly got up from his seat and pushed against the running people. As if he was one to run with the tide, psh.
He started running toward the area where the people were running from.
"Where. Are. You. Going. E-Ed?" Harry panted as he and Ron suddenly appeared next to Ed.
"Huh? I'm gonna bust some troll of course!"
Ed didn't miss the look Ron have Harry that hinted 'I told you he was tad bit insane!' but of course, he just continued running.
When had he started to get this feeling? Hm, he suppose he always had the feeling of not wanting to run away the moment he had joined the military, simply standing and waiting while other people took care of the job was not his style. While other people would think he's insane, Ed could only shrug and say it's just the way things are.
So while he didn't particularly care about finding Hermione much- I mean, he doesn't even know her- he wanted to do what he thought was natural- save people from getting hurt.
And that was exactly what he did when he saw a girl being cornered by a troll.
"Y-you g-"
And he didn't hear another word because he whipped out his wand, pointed at the troll, prepared his stance, and muttered one simple curse as he aimed for the eye- "Arresto Momentum!"
Ron hastily called another curse from behind Ed that carried a broomstick and that brought it down harshly on the buffoon's head.
The giant toppled and fell over causing a loud thud to be heard once it hit the ground. After that Ed heard footsteps of-probably- teachers.
Ron looked still flabbergasted that he was actually able to knock out the giant- it was it that he was actually able to use a spell? He seems kinda dumb so that may be it.
The teachers that rushed in were not happy. McGonagall seemed especially flabbergasted that a Slytherin would be caught alive between a group of Gryffindors and weren't fighting. Quirrell looked terrified at the felled troll.
Before either of the boys could come up with a solid excuse on why they were with the troll and didn't return to their house, Hermione teared up and tearfully told the teacher that it was her fault. The teacher looked mad but wasn't too furious. Instead, she ended up taking away points from Hermione and rewarding the Gryffindor boys house points and she turned to Snape to see his verdict on punishing or rewarding his own student.
Snape curled up his lip and looked Ed down. He didn't look like he knew what to do. It wouldn't do his house any good if he took points away from his own house but it was unheard of for a Slytherin to help a group of Gryffindors (But that's a stupid reason and Snape knew it).
McGonagall huffed upon seeing Snape's silence and she broke it by telling Ed that she planned to give him points anyways for helping Hermione. Snape looked offended and snapped right back saying that he was obviously going to give Ed the points for helping out another students.
By that time, Ed was already feeling cold in his body. At first he thought it would be interesting that there was be a troll in the school but seeing how Hermione was nearly attacked and how the other students were also a likely target, he felt very very upset. However, he decidedly thought that since he was mature now, he wouldn't flip out and scream and yell like he usually would- perhaps he would go back to the house and pull some more pranks to vent his stress. What? He wasn't being violent.
It seemed that Dumbledore was pleased because his eyes were twinkling in another light when he looked back. Since Ed was standing right next to Harry, he couldn't tell if the look was directed at him or the darker haired male.
"I heard you saved Miss-Know-It-All from the troll?" And thus, Ed was rudely greeted once he returned to his /shared/ room.
Edward glared at the boy who looked almost excited- like a little kid listening for gossip.
"What is it to you? Yea, I went with Harry and Ron and subdued and saved Hermione from a troll."
"Well, it's a peculiar thing if you wanted to know, that you would actually be interested in helping a Gryffindor" and the word was said with much distaste as if it were feces itself, "then again, you've been peculiar this whole while I've known you, seeing as how you seem to be a muggle-lover yourself." Draco crossed his arms in front of his chest and narrowly looked at Ed through the slits of his eyes.
Ed glared at Draco and his face clearly told Draco that he wasn't satisfied with his answer.
"Well, I mean, there was no need to bother saving her, she's only a mu-"
The boy was unable to continue because Ed moved his body forward and thrust his index and middle finger towards Draco's throat and effectively cut off his crude statement.
"So you are saying that letting a troll loose in the school should be no biggie because it would help you get rid off some non-magical birth students that could still use magic? Is that what you are suggesting?" Noticing Draco's look of discomfort Ed allowed the tiniest amount of space in between them and pressed on, "trolls aren't trained to attack students that were born in nonmagic families, in fact, they aren't trained at all. It was only pure luck that it was Hermione there at the time. What if it were you? I doubt anyone would bother saving you seeing as your goons are always missing whenever you need them the most-" Ed said while gesturing to the lack of Crabbe and Goyle behind him, "Now do you think having a troll in the school is a good idea to 'clean out' the school?" Ed narrowed his eyes which clearly left no more room for argument for Draco. Seeing that Draco had shut up and the fight left him, Ed removed his fingers from the proximity of Draco's throat. The latter glared furiously at Ed and he gripped his own wand tightly.
"Hey, but just saying, if you were to be attacked by a troll, I would still save you you know." Ed awkwardly spoke and said with a small voice. Draco looked taken aback but he laughed bitterly, "You almost tried to kill me and you tell me you would save me?" And with that, Draco stomped off and Ed slowly let the rage die off.
He didn't actually hate Draco, it just hurt so much seeing how this boy didn't seem like an evil person who actually believed that the 'Dark Lord' was actually right. He was just a boy who was taught and brought up with the wrong idea and Ed could tell by his eyes that he didn't truly believe in the 'righteousness' of Moldy-warts or in the 'uselessness' that normal humans and magical people brought up by nonmagic people supposedly had.
After his little argument with Draco, Ed noticed that Draco did his very best to avoid Ed and had looked repeatedly annoyed with Crabbe and Goyle and seemed conflicted whenever Ed seemed to catch his gaze.
Ron seems to open up to Ed more and Harry was absolutely delighted. Hermione had apparently become friends with Ron and Harry after they saved her and she was also excited to befriend Ed.
After some period of time, Ed noticed how they were whispering quietly to each other. Not wanted to be left out, Ed approached them as they were leaving their house and towards the Grand Hall.
"What's up?"
Ron seemed to jump out of his skin and fright, Harry clutched his heart while Hermione looked shocked.
"N-nothing!" Ron frantically replied. Hermione and Harry looked disappointed with ron's response and the three of them had their own private conversation between themselves.
Having dealt with and knowing the danger of keeping a secret to oneself, Ed stood patiently for the trio to finish the conversation between themselves.
Finally, Ron reluctantly turned around, "I don't even know why you would care to know. You helped us out that time and proved that you weren't as bad as the Slytherins but-"
"Fine, even if you don't tell me everything, you should still tell at least somebody so when you get in trouble, you won't be all alone." Ed grumpily retorted. Screw being mature, these kids were brats!
Hermione and Harry both seemed to want to say something but Ed stuck his tongue out on them and left.
Damnit! It was cold! The metallic part of his automail stung as his leg and the cold bit at his skin. He took out his wand and muttered a heating spell he had long since memorized. The cold wasn't exactly merciful on his metal limb.
He looked towards the teams that were on the field holding their brooms. Surprisingly, Harry was one of them.
After the confrontation with the trio, he bumped into Draco and Draco apologized for his behavior that night and he told Ed that he still didn't really accept Ed yet but decided that what he said that night wasn't exactly right either. Not so surprisingly, Crabbe and Goyle weren't with Draco at the time. Draco even invited Ed to go see the Quidditch match or something like that.
Ed watched as the brooms hovered into the sky and wondered if it was possible even for him and his automail leg to fly on a broom.
Then, Ed noticed how Harry's balance was disrupted from time to time and his broom jerked from right to left and was like a horse trying to buck him off. Draco was laughing on his side and Ed jabbed him in the rib and shot him a look that said 'would you like that to happen with you?!' and effectively shut him up after Draco saw the wand gripped in Ed's hand. However, the other Slytherins laughed and Draco sulked about being the only person yelled at.
Ed looked around the stadium to see if he could find any reasoning for the odd jerking. It had to be a curse of a jinx of some sort. The charm teacher had taught him that in order for a jinx to be done, the person had to have their utmost concentration.
He quickly got his gaze captured by the teachers' booth by two figures that were muttering under their breath. Being a person that considered facts beforehand, he couldn't decide on who was actually the jinx-er, he sent a spell with doused both of them with water after he saw that Hermione had set Snape's robe on fire. Looking back up, he noticed that Harry's riding was back to normal.
(And he did feel a tiny bit guilty for dousing them in cold water in the cold weather)
Draco's rivalry and his love to mock Harry didn't end yet, he still took the time he had whenever to mock Harry and basically risked fights with Ron often. Well, only person that would be suffering the reality would be Ron.
Ed decided to stay for Christmas rather than leave like everyone else. When he had decided to stay, he looked firmly at Draco's face and dared him to mock him. He didn't.
Christmas was spectacularly pretty in London and Ed gleefully cheered when he saw snow. Misty had come and brought Ed presents from Risembool and Ed felt his body warm up. Winry had sent him a small wrench and some other little tools and a small note, 'surprised your automail is still fine' which made Ed feel just a tiny bit like he was mocked. Alphonse had sent him pictures and another red cape with the Flamel insignia and his classic attire with a note attached also saying 'just in case you've grown a bit' which made Ed fume.
Ed had gotten a surprisingly large amount of gifts from a lot of people and he was fairly surprised. He got presents from the military officers and from his teacher.
He even got a broom from his dad and a letter telling him how he missed Ed so much and that it's possible that a broom could carry his automail's weight. It was nice, Ed decided, to live life this way. (Kinda boring but that's the life of an ordinary person)
"Ed!" Harry called after him once he saw Ed walking into the library.
Ed looked up from his book and was quite baffled at the eagerness Harry displayed. Ron and Hermione looked slightly hesitant to ask for his help or attention but Harry looked absolutely thrilled.
Harry pulled Ed between the three of the Gryffindors and sat him down.
"Hey hey, you said you knew about someone named Nicholas Flamel right?"
Ed was baffled and speechless, "Why- you-"
Harry pleaded Ed, "please, it would be nice if you would tell us what you didn't tell us at the time. I've tried researching him in my own but I couldn't."
Ed hardened expression and his jaw, "if only you would tell me what you needed information on him for. "
Harry looked determined and he shot a look at both Hermione and Ron that said that he wasn't going to change his mind. Both looked resigned to let Ed know. And so Harry spilled everything he knew.
Ed felt his blood run cold. There is only one person and one thing that could tie it in with Nicholas Flamel. Dangerous, it's too dangerous for these kids go even try to get involved.
"It's probably Moldy-wart. You really want to get involved with him?"
Ron and Hermione simultaneously flinched but Harry looked just determined as ever, "Of course. We need to know this and we have a different suspect in mind."
Ed sighed, it was hard to try and persuade a person otherwise if they were so dead set towards something. Alphonse had always told him so. "The only thing that is especially notable for Flamel is the Philosopher's stone. Have you ever heard of it? A stone that can make a person immortal and can amplify magical powers. It's like, I think the only famous alchemical substance or object that's actually well known in this side of the world.."
The trio's eyes widened into fear and surprise.
"Bloody h- You're right Ed! If You-Know-Who was actually alive then that sounds like something You-Know-Who would want. Thank goodness he didn't try to get it bu-oh my- he's still a dangerous person to- that's so dangerous!" Ron fretted and panicked.
"He's going to be refereeing the match tomorrow for Quidditch. . ." Hermione warily glanced towards Harry but the boy only hardened his look.
"I'll be fine."
"Who is this 'he' you keep talking about?"
"Snape."
