Yay! Another update! Sorry, kind of a boring chapter and I was kinda suppose to update yesterday but like yea. . .Anyways, this is basically the summer stuff because it'll be kind of lacking if I didn't put this in and that's what I thought. And yes, I am planning to shove all the books into this tiny fanfiction thingy- or maybe not so tiny by the time I'm done. Thank you to those you didn't think the first story is rushed ^^
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN HARRY POTTER OR FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST - DO I SEEM THAT AMAZING? Only an owl here, hoot.
"Brother, brother!"
"What?" Ed drawled with his head still stuck in a book. He wasn't going to let up on studying and reviewing the material just because it was the summer. He was ready to go back and pull some more pranks for those unruly students.
"I got my letter for the new school stuff!" Al cheered. "I wonder what house I will be in. . . And I wonder how we will get there," Al frowned after thinking for a while. "I never questioned Brother but how did you get to London the first time. Oops, something fell out of the envelope with a note attached. "
"Don't touch it!" Ed warned and quickly pulled himself up and walked over to Al and pointed to the sock that dropped, "that, is our ticket to the place where we gotta buy your stuff. And this letter-" he picked up the note that also fell out, " is when it shall bring us."
Greetings Elrics!
Edward should be familiar with portkeys now but I believe this will be your first experience with them Alphonse. On August 15th, 2:30 pm, this portkey will allow you to arrive at the marketplace where you will be able to buy your school needs. Ollivander- the wand maker- will then give you your next portkey to come to the Hogwarts Express. If there are any questions, please send Misty.
"Then it's safe to touch it now right?" Al questioned and Ed nodded.
"Magic isn't actually that hard. We apparently have magics stored inside our body and the school assists to enhance the little magic we have to make it be useful to us. Sounds stupid but that's what they say," Ed slouched back onto the couch.
"I'll be fine Brother! I mean, I can learn just as fast as you can!"
"We probably won't be in the same class, you are a much more different person than I am," Ed sighed.
"Whatever it is, it doesn't mean we still can't talk!" Al chirped. "Don't you have anyone you want to write to right now? You've been just lying around and reading- you must not neglect your friends!"
"Hm, maybe Harry I guess? It would be nice to see how he is doing now and if he is still excited to go back to school after what happened, ugh, I don't really want to talk to Draco so I am going to skip him, ack, " Ed groaned as he pulled himself up. "Um, ac-"
"Brother! No magic allowed!"
Ed cursed and lifted himself up to grab a pen and a piece of paper, "No no, I'm starting to get lazy."
Al picked up the sock and placed it on top of the fireplace while Ed sat down to write the letter addressed to Harry.
"Brother, you should be careful too, you keep worrying about me going to Hogwarts but aren't you the one who came home with your automail basically shattered? Winry was really mad remember?"
"Bah, that was only a small incident. I wasn't careful enough but I know better now. You're younger and Harry and those two kids are even younger so it's important to listen to those older than you," Ed waved his own in the air and took on a thoughtful expression.
"Pfft, Brother, you sounds like Colonel Brigadier-General General Mustang," Al laughed at the way his brother was trying to sound mature and also at the mouthful title of their previous "guardian".
Ed huffed and replied that he did not sounds like a certain military officer and continued to work on his letter to Harry. Finally, he finished and called for Misty then tied it to her leg.
"Alright, hoping to get a reply before the end of this week. It's far but people say that owls travel pretty fast and stuff so it shouldn't take that long," Ed explained to Al who nodded in understanding.
Ed sent off Misty right before Winry decided to check up on them.
"Ok Ed, you remember what you promised me?" Winry patiently asked and knelt down to Ed's eye level- Ed's eye twitched at the once again, obvious height difference.
"No more broomstick riding from tall heights unless I keep both hands on the broom," Ed refrained from rolling his eyes and kept his fingers crossed behind his back. The younger Elric noticed and could only shake his head at his older brother's antics.
Winry seemed pleased enough to know that Ed remembered and didn't push for him to honesty promise.
"Don't think I can't see those fingers Ed! Just as long as you remember the promise is good. . ."
"It's been 2 weeks brother, maybe Harry forgot to answer," Al suggested and Ed fumed.
"2 weeks, what's holding him up! Argh, I'll just send a letter to the Ron kid then, he probably knows where Harry is," Ed then promptly scribbled the words, 'WHERE IS HARRY? IS HE SAFE?', and quickly tied them to Misty's leg after writing, 'RON WEASLEY', on the front.
"Hey hey Brother, can I get a cat do you think?" Al casually suggested after Ed released the owl to send the message.
"Huh? That's so inconvenient though because cats can't swim so you can't deliver overseas messages and stuff like that."
Al pouted and resumed to reading.
"Finally a reply!" Ed huffed and opened the roll of paper.
Dear Edward,
Harry is safe, why wouldn't you think so? Did you send an owl to him earlier? Apparently-' (the words were blurred- scribbled out) 'Anyways, someone kept hold of the messages so Harry didn't receive them. He is currently with us and Dumbledore knows too.
Ed wrinkled his nose. Obviously that was not the whole truth. He thought he had managed to get the kids to know that he isn't evil but somehow they still don't believe him. Then there wasn't much he could do. He sighed and wrote another letter- this time addressed to Harry- and tied it to Misty asking how Harry was doing.
'Ok, now that was done with, seems like those kids didn't get into anymore trouble.'
"Al! You wanna spar for a bit?"
"Yes!" came the immediate and cheerful chirp from his brother as he bounced off the stairs.
"Brother! Misty came back with two letters. One is from Harry and the other is from. . . Dad!"
Ed tiredly rubbed his eyes and tried to focus on the black characters on the white paper. "I wrote to him a bit after I wrote to Harry, thought it would be a good idea 'cause we still need to get money."
Al smiled knowingly and nodded as Ed read from Harry's letter.
Dear Ed,
Sorry I couldn't reply to you, I'm sure that Ron has told you a bit about the reason why. I'm fine now, Ron and his two brothers kinda helped me out- Fred and George. I'm having a pretty good summer now, how are you?
p.s. Do you want to meet up in Diagon Alley so we can buy our stuff together with Ron and Hermione?'
Ed eagerly responded to the letter by grabbing another piece of paper and a pen and scribbled down the date and time the portkey would take effect.
"Here's the next one Brother," Al reminded and held out Hohenheim's letter.
Dear Ed,
Al is going to Hogwarts this year too? That's so exciting. Sorry I couldn't be home this summer- busy with some things you see. The money is at the Gringotts bank and its at Vault 650 and the key is also enclosed.
I'll visit soon and have a great school year.
'Always so terse.' Ed scoffed but recorded the vault number and placed the key near the sock.
"I wrote a thank you letter already Brother!" Al cheerfully cried and handed Ed an envelope addressed to Hohenheim. Ed suspiciously looked at Al and the envelope but attached it along with his letter to Harry to Misty.
Finally the day came that it was time for Ed and Al to go shopping for their school materials. In their hands, they held the letter that they got from the school directing them to which books they should get and what additional materials are needed. Ed tucked the key into his scarlet coat.
"Is this Gilderoy Lockhart guy really famous Brother?"
"I don't know, never heard of him, ready Al?" After getting an affirmative nod from Al, Ed gestured that he should hold on to the sock before counting down from 5 seconds.
It was such a weird feeling of being sucked from one place to another. Ed still felt slightly nauseous and Al looked downright ready to puke.
"That was so cool!" but he was still his ever excitable little brother.
"This is a different place than last time," Ed frowned in confusion. He did all the note had said- it didn't say much either though. Maybe he should ask around or something. Then he saw Draco and another taller blond dude-must be the father- walking out of a nearby building.
"That is the kid I told you about Al. The really annoying but not too bad kid that I'm in the same house with. Yo! Draco!" Ed called and jogged over to where the two figures were standing. Ed noticed that as he approached Draco, he tensed up.
"E-Elric! What has gotten you here?"
"What's wrong with being here?" Ed frowned but before Draco could open his mouth to explain, the taller man waved his arm to hush Draco.
"Are you the classmate of my son here? We had some business here that I needed to settle and since its not quite safe to allow my son to wander, I brought him along."
Ed skeptically looked at the man while he spoke while noticing that Draco looked hesitant in saying anything.
"Nice to meet you Draco Malfoy!" Al bowed and held out his arm, " My name is Alphonse Elric!" Draco looked surprised but shook Al's hand nevertheless. "Thank you for taking care of my brother!"
"Oi! I'm the one taking care of him,"Ed grumbled and Al cheerfully waved to the retreating duo, "I don't like the look of Draco's dad, Did you see the way he sneered at us? I hate those type of people."
Al merely shrugged but had to agree that the taller male was mean to them and didn't really show the amount of courtesy that was expected from an adult to a child's classmates. "Oh, Brother, do you know who he is?"
Ed looked toward to where Al was pointing and was surprised to see Harry being harassed by some over-aged woman. Harry looked like he was struggling to run away and so Al- after seeing that some boy was in trouble- ran over to help.
"Sorry but is it alright if I were to ask what you were planning to do to a student?"
The woman grimaced but didn't seem to want to go and sneered but before she could open her mouth, Ed moved in.
"We have to get going if you would excuse us, " and he pulled Al and Harry away. "Al, you are too fast to act on these kind of stuff."
Al pouted, "Well he looked very unhappy and nervous so we gotta help!"
"T-thank you for that but why are you here Ed and uh. . ."
"My name is Alphonse Elric! Nice to meet you!"
"Thank you Al-"
"Harry! Ed! New Kid! What are you doing here?" A large man entered their view and demanded an explanation.
"O-Oh! I got lost with the Floo Powder. . ." Harry weakly explained.
"Al and I ended up here by your boss or something like that." Ed shrugged and lifted up the limp sock.
Hagrid looked horrified but led them out into a place where Ed recognized much better.
"Didn't think I would meet you up first and what's Floo Powder?" Ed questioned Harry as they followed behind Hagrid.
"Its-uh- like this powder that you throw into the fire and then the fire will turn green. Then you step into the fire- it won't hurt or anything- and call the name of the place you want to go to. I must have been unclear then. . ."
"Harry! And you too Ed! I don't understand how you got there but never go there again! Knockturn Alley is a very shady place and it won't do you good to hang around there!" Hagrid continued scolding them in front of a big white building.
"What were you doing there Hagrid?"
"I was buying some Flesh-Eating Slug Repellent, the slugs are ruining the school cabbages."
Before Hagrid could continue talking, Ed opened his mouth, "Yo, Hagrid, where is the bank? I have to withdraw some money."
Harry and Hagrid looked at each other before Hagrid pointed both Ed and Al to Gringotts Bank that was run by green goblins.
Hagrid informed the two brothers before they left them that the bank was the safest place in the world-even though someone tried to break in last year. There were guards dressed in gold and scarlet near the entrance way where Hagrid dropped both of them off. Perfect, Gryffindor colors- Ed wanted to roll his eyes.
The goblin at the front desk looked suspiciously at the key that Ed presented and the brothers themselves. But led them to an entryway anyways. Al and Ed followed after the goblin onto the cart to descend to their vault. There were many doors that they passed and Ed wondered if they were ever going to find theirs before the cart stopped and their goblin guide scampered out of the cart and opened the huge door using the key that Ed have him.
Both Ed and Al looked in awe at the piles and piles of gold stuff, silver stuff and bronze stuff. Ed didn't use much money after the headmaster helped him pay so he was not aware that there were so many different currencies.
"Go ahead, take what you need out of your bank," the goblin gruffly huffed.
Al kindly asked the goblin for a bag and thanked the goblin before running into the vault and scooping some random coins- mostly the gold coins.
Ed curiously walked around in the room. There must be more than just money here since it was Hohenheim they were talking about. Perhaps he also placed some research here. It would have looked suspicious if he was wandering around the room but since Al was taking the attention of the goblin by asking him questions about the coins, Ed had time.
In the far corner of the room, Ed saw books stacked up and a note on the top of them all. He quickly went to pick up all the books and to read the note.
Dear son,
Here are some of the researches I have done on the Wizarding World. Have fun reading.
Ed grinned before hiding the books and the note in his pocket and quickly scribbled a thanks on the corner of the page before tearing it off and leaving it on the ground.
"-never used Wizard money before?" The goblin grumbled.
Al sheepishly giggled, "This is my first year so. . . Anyways so the gold are galleons and they are worth 17 of the silver Sickles which are worth 29 bronze Knuts?"
"Yes and are you ready to get going?" The goblin rolled his eyes in annoyance.
Al and Ed both clambered into the cart while the goblin closed the door tightly. Ed quickly showed off the books to Al before pulling his coat around him again.
Finally, when they got to the surface,. Al thanked the goblin for his services and then followed Ed out the door.
"You must be Edward Elric!"
Ed blinked and then tilted his head up to see a mass of shocking red hair and a freckled face. After stuttering that he was indeed Ed, the redhead shook his arms up and down.
"I have heard that you helped Harry during his first year with his incident with You-Know-Who?" Again, Ed stuttered that, yes, he had helped. "Where are your parents? I would love to meet them! Ron! Why don't you greet him?"
Ron grumbled but greeted Ed anyways. "How was your summer?"
Ed shrugged, "Nothing much." He didn't do much to do with the Wizard World other than study and write letters. Then he also had to wait 2 weeks for Winry to create a whole new leg from scratch because he killed his previous one.
"And who are you?" Fred teased jumping up in front of Alphonse.
Al stepped back briefly before standing straight again. "My name is Alphonse Elric. And you are. . .?"
"My name is Fred!"
"And mine is George!"
Al started immediately trying to record their names and faces onto his mental notebook and then he turned to Ron.
"Name's Ron, Ron Weasley."
"Our little baby brother!" George teased.
"And this is Ginny, our little baby sister!" Fred teased the little girl standing next to a woman with similar red hair. She blushed and shrunk behind her mother.
"My name is Hermione Granger," Hermione smiled and introduced herself.
Al smiled and waved at her. "Are you all shopping together?"
"We were going to get the Lockhart books and then Harry remembered that you were still at the bank getting money." Ron supplied helpfully. "Yo, why is your brother so much more polite than you Ed?"
Ed stuck his tongue out and refused to answer. Al just laughed because so many people had said the same before.
"Hey, is this Lockhart person that great? I didn't see his name before today," Ed pointed out as they started walking towards the bookstore.
"He is absolutely wonderful! He was written countless book about his adventures to save many different people! He is a very talented Wizard and a respectable one too!" Hermione gushed. Ed was a little creeped out.
"Is defeating people that hard? Don't you have spells that will do anything for you?" Al bluntly asked.
"Younger Elric's got a point," Ron laughed.
"Al is fine," Al added in.
Hermione huffed and continued walking in front of them.
When they arrived at Flourish and Blotts, there was a lengthy line of squabbling people- mostly women- and a bunch of students that did not look happy at all.
The kids dutifully got in line and Ed grumbled before Al poked him in the sides. The man sitting behind the counter was practically beaming. He was signing books- Magical Me as the advertisement stated at the front door. He had wavy blond hair and very shiny teeth.
Ed slipped out of line because he wasn't really too interested in getting such a shiny guy's signature. He was more interested in buying some more books. He grabbed some of the golden coins before slipping back into the shelves. He had only grabbed one - 'Never too Safe'- before he heard a commotion.
Looking back into the line, he saw Harry grimacing while Lockhart smiled at a cameraman and urged Harry to do the same.
He quickly slipped passed the crowd and took his spot next to Al.
"Lockhart heard Ron and when he looked up, he saw Harry. Then he wanted to take pictures with Harry. Harry sure is famous."
"-Harry here stepped into Flourish and Blotts today, he only wanted to buy my autobiography -which I shall be happy to present him now, free of charge-" The crowd applauded again. "He had no idea," Lockhart continued, giving Harry a little shake that made his glasses slip to the end of his nose, "that he would shortly be getting much, much more than my book, Magical Me. He and his schoolmates will, in fact, be getting the real magical me. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I have great pleasure and pride in announcing that this September, I will be taking up the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!" (Saw no reason to change this)
The crowd cheered and Lockhart presented Harry with a huge set a books that Harry have to Ginny instead- assuring her that he would rather buy his own.
"Famous Harry Potter. Always getting attention wherever he goes." Draco taunted while standing right in Harry's view.
"Leave him alone!" Ginny shrieked.
"You have a girlfriend now too?" Draco sneered.
Ginny blushed and both Ron and Hermione made their way over to see who Harry was talking to.
"Oh, it's you. Bet you are surprised to see Harry here." Ron commented while looking at Draco as if he was trash himself.
"I'm much more surprised to see you here Weasley." Draco pointed out and swallowed his next words after seeing that Ed was also with them. Ron's father also made his way over seeing how the kids were gathered.
"Well, well, well - Arthur Weasley," the taller blond also walked into the bookstore addressing Ron's father.
"Lucius," Mr. Weasley responded with clear dislike in his tone.
"Busy time at the Ministry, I hear," said Mr. Malfoy. "All those raids ... I hope they're paying you overtime?" Then he went and reached into Ginny's cauldron and pulled out a battered copy of a spells book before sneering and commented on the lack of money the Weasley's obviously had.
"Such a disgrace to the name of wizard and they don't even pay you well for it? And the company you keep, I thought your family could sink no lower-" he had looked at Hermione and that made Ed decide that it was this man that was trying to reign over Draco's life and decisions and that no, he did not like Draco's father at all.
Mr. Weasley threw himself onto Mr. Malfoy and Ed slipped over to applaud Draco in keeping his mean words to himself.
Al was horrified and tried to stop the two men from fighting but they didn't actually stop until Hagrid broke the two of them up. He chastised the two men for fighting in a public space and Lucius tossed Ginny's book back into her cauldron. Hagrid quickly ushered them all back out of the door. Ed and Al both complained about the fact that they didn't even choose a book yet. Hagrid waved goodbye to Harry, Hermione, and the Weasleys before turning back to escort the Elric's around.
The two of them returned back into the bookstore and quickly found the required books, 'The Standard Book of Spells' 1 and 2 and the many Lockhart books- 'Break with a Banshee', 'Gadding with Ghouls', 'Travels with Trolls', 'Voyages with Vampires', 'Wandering with Werewolves', 'Year with the Yeti', and 'Holiday with Hags.' Al pulled two additional books on animals while Ed pulled more books about Alchemy and magical spells.
Al chose to go alone into the wand shop because he was embarrassed at what may happen. After a few clanging and sounds of explosions, Al came out with a flush on his face and a wand of Chestnut wood, Unicorn core, 12¾ inches and Supple. Al kept apologizing to Ollivander for destroying the shop but the old man just chucked.
"It was terrible brother. A lot of the wands didn't like me." Al whimpered and Ed reassured him that it was the same from him too.
"Its difficult because individual wands choose their owners so other wands would give you some trouble if you are not the one." Hagrid supplied. "Now where to?"
"Can I go and pick an animal for myself?" Al pleaded and was met with an approval from Ed and a curious look from Hagrid.
"Alright, any preferences? Would you like an owl or something else?" Hagrid inquired.
"Um, I was thinking about like a cat kind of?" Al hopefully asked.
"We have Den at home! How do you think we can keep a cat?" Ed complained openly.
"I don't know what you are talking about but if its an owl you want then. . ." Hagrid pulled out a whistle from one of the pockets in his huge coat and handed it to Al. "Dumbledore said to give this whistle to you if you wanted an owl. Apparently this belonged to your dad."
Al's eyes twinkled and he held the small golden whistle tightly in his hands with glee. "This is good enough, thank you very much Mr. Hagrid!"
"Anything else?" Hagrid coughed before asking.
Both Elrics joyfully replied that they had no more that they wished to get and would very much want to go home.
'I can finally take a peek at the books the old man left behind!'
'I wonder what does the owl look like? I'm so excited!'
Hm. . .abrupt endings. . .I'll see if I can change that for later chapters. Anyways, this time for Al's wand I did some more outside research and stuff like that. Ron doesn't really trust Ed yet because Ed is still Slytherin and stuff like that.
LilMama886, Ed is going to get his Alchemy back soon and that's true ^^ I do have slight plans for that too
Thank you Laud de Saturno, GoddessDana, coronadomontes ,chewybillabong, and Guest!
goodgirl275, I am planning to change a few of the Slytherin members for the better ish I guess you can say ^^
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, I'LL START THE SECOND PART RIGHT NOW AND STOP BEING LAZY (I'll try to watch for errors in grammar too)
