Author's Note: I'm sorry it's been over a month since my last update. I promise I'll make it up over the summer. So, I kind of got lazy and made a gigantic complied list of all the people who reviewed, favorited (that's not a word, but whatever XD), ect. You are appreciated! So yeah, don't be alarmed if there's a lot of people listed there. I didn't get ultra-popular suddenly. Though that would be awesome if it did happen. Well, this concludes the Future Arc. I hope you enjoy it.
Disclaimer: I do not own Katekyo Hitman Reborn
I watch as a pair of pretty repulsive looking black wings appears on Byakuran's back. My future-self appeared to have a habit of writing down lots of information down. That, or it was so that I could understand what was going on around me. My future-self knew that I was going to come here to the future all along, after all. I remember that the known information on Byakuran was left for me too. Strange as it is, it said that his favorite color is white. White represents purity, doesn't it? It's weird, his wings turned black and he seemed to go crazy for a moment there. Even his dragons are black now. His White Applause back there was black as well. I frown. This is pointless. I'm only doing this to distract myself from Yuni's impending sacrifice. I let myself get too attached even though I distanced myself intentionally.
Mukuro speaks and it brings me back out of my thoughts. "We cannot simply stand here and watch. Destroy the barrier and rescue Yuni," he says.
"Yeah, you're right," the Bronco agrees. "Regardless of what Yuni decides to do, she's in too much danger there."
As usual, the Storm Guardian acted first already. "But we can't do a thing against that barrier!" he exclaims as he attacks the barrier. Levi, apparently, is like the Storm Guardian in this was as well, as he too already attacked. The self-proclaimed right-hand men are all the same, aren't they?
Mukuro chuckles and I turn to him. You're listening to my thoughts, aren't you? He nods. Okay.
"Is this really the time to be laughing?" the Bronco asks us.
"No," I reply flatly. He looks at me and doesn't seem to know how to respond.
Mukuro says, "It's just that my adorable Kasumi thinks up the most cynical things sometimes."
The topic is dropped quickly as our attention is diverted back to the barrier though. Basil managed to make a crack in the barrier, and for some reason, Gamma jumped in. "I won't let you do this alone," he says.
"No way!"
"What are you doing, Gamma-aniki? Stop this!" If I remember correctly, his comrades' names are Nosaru and Tazaru. I look away. It's almost over.
It's quiet for a moment, and then Sawada shouts out, "Gamma! Yuni!" From their voices though, you can tell that they left in peace. They were ready to accept death. In their place now is a pile of clothing. Thank you.
"That can't be! The Arcobaleno haven't returned!" Fuuta exclaims.
"No, they've received the flames," Reborn replies. "But it's going to take some time."
"Hold on a moment. What have you done? I finally found the last piece of the puzzle, and she's dead. It was all for nothing. My dream of awakening the Tri-ni-sette Policy and becoming the ruler of all space and time was shattered by your little act of friendship. Do you…" Byakuran says. He almost sounds sad. He snaps suddenly and roars, "Do you understand what that means?!" He gets pushed back suddenly by what seems like a burst of flames.
A cyclone surrounds Sawada and he asks, "Why do you think Yuni had to do this? You ruined our world. That's why Yuni…" Sawada turns around. He has tears in his eyes, but it's clear that he's mad. "That's why Yuni died! Byakuran! I won't forgive you!" My eyes widen. I've never seen Sawada so angry before. Ever.
I grit my teeth as Byakuran starts to rattle on and on. Mukuro said that I made cynical comments a moment ago, but Byrakuran truly is a cynical person. "Can I punch him?" I ask Mukuro. My voice sounds strangely composed.
He chuckles and pats my head. "Don't interfere with his fight," Mukuro says.
I nod. "Alright," I reply. I watch as both Sawada and Byakuran prepare to end it with a final attack. There's a large burst of light and I close my eyes. When it finally seems to die down, Sawada is the one left standing.
I turn to Kikuyo as Sawada and his friends start to group together. The Varia seem to be ready to kill him. I walk over and glare at them. "Step back," I command.
"Wait! What are you doing? Nobody else needs to die!" Sawada says.
"What's the point in protecting this scum? He's a monster who only knows how to harm others," Levi replies. He glares at me. "Go."
I raise my eyebrows at him. "It's ironic hearing something like that from you," I reply. "Now move," I say. "It's pitiful to have to beat down on someone who's already on their knees." It's seems like I tipped off Xanxus' irritation.
"Kasumi," Mukuro says. I turn to him and I understand what he wants. He's telling me to back off.
I nod. "I understand," I reply. I back down and head back over to him. The argument subsides because the Bronco and Squalo manage to calm Sawada and Xanxus down. They're right though. There's no use fighting among ourselves.
"It'll be alright! We'll keep him alive!" Lussuria says. With that, the Vaira starts to depart.
I listen quietly as the now revived Arcobaleno explain what Yuni did for us. An eternal peace, huh? Somehow I doubt it, but it's a nice thing to hope for. I smile a little and put my hands together. Thank you, Yuni-san, Gamma-san. "Well, now it's time to grant your wishes," Irie says.
"R-Right!" Sawada says.
"Tenth!"
"Sawada!"
"Tsuna-kun!"
"Tsuna-san!"
I smile. Might as well join in too. "Sawada-san."
"Let's go back to the past!" Sawada declares with a smile.
I gather my things when we get back to the base. I see the bunny keychain hanging on my bag and I wonder if I should say goodbye to Kiriko. That girl was just like me when I was little. I smile a little and pick up a piece of paper on the desk. I write down quickly, "My future-self: In case you don't remember, we met a girl here named Kiriko. She's just like us when we were little. I couldn't promise to play with her, but you should." I put her address down and fold the paper up. I guess I should thank the future Hibari too… I start to write.
When I finish writing, I head out of my room to find Kusakabe. I find Kusakabe and bow. "Thank you for taking care of me all this time, Kusakabe-san," I say. I look up at him. "I would say that I'm no good with moments like these, but I'm sure you know already."
He smiles at me. "It was no problem at all. Take care when you get back," he replies.
I nod. "You too," I say. "Ah, that's right." I hold out the envelopes in my hand. "If you don't mind, would you give these to the future Hibari-san and my future-self?" I ask.
"Alright," he says as he takes the letters. "Take care of Kyo-san for me."
I blush and look away. "W-What are you talking about? You're with him in the past too." I start to head out. "Take care of my future-self, please," I add quietly. I head into the main section of the base. I've gotten so used to navigating the halls here, I'll miss this place.
"Kasumi," a familiar voice call.
I look up and smile at the taller man. "Mukuro-sama," I reply. "It was nice to see you again. The real you." He chuckles. "Don't worry, Ken, Chikusa, I, and even Dokuro will go and break your younger-self out," I say. "Well find a way for sure."
"Mukuro-san!" Ken calls out. He and Chikusa come over. "Oh, it's the puny Kasumi."
"Who are you calling puny, Ken?" I ask. I smirk at him. "You know that I cook your meals back in my time, right?"
"You wouldn't," he says.
"Wanna try?" I ask. It's quiet for a bit as the tension in the air settles in.
Even Mukuro must get a little worried because he puts a hand on my shoulder and Ken's. "Don't start fighting."
"Just kidding!" Ken exclaims with a grin. We high five, and Mukuro's eyes widen a little.
"Ken! Kasumi, you too! What is the meaning of this?" he asks.
I smile at him. "It was our idea from a long time ago. We would greet you like this to see if you could tell that we were acting weird."
"You've been away too long, Mukuro-san," Ken says.
"You say that, but you haven't changed at all, Ken," Chikusa says with a sigh.
"What was that, Kakipi?!" Ken exclaims.
I laugh. "You two really haven't changed that much," I say. Ken looks like he's going to yell at me too, but I smile. "I'm glad."
They're all silent. "It seems that you've grown a lot, my adorable little Kasumi," Mukuro comments.
"No, it's just the infectious joy of the moment," I reply. "Well, I'm going to go then. There's one more person I have to say good-bye to."
"Huh?" Ken asks.
I ring the doorbell to Kiriko's house and her mother answers. "Oh, you're that girl that helped Kiriko come back home!" she exclaims.
I smile at her and nod. "I'm surprised that you remembered, Miss. May I speak to her, please?" I ask.
"Huh? How come?" she asks.
"I promised her that I would play with her again sometime, but I'm moving away, so I just wanted to say good-bye before leaving," I reply.
"Oh, I see," she says. "I'll get her then."
"Thank you," I say. She heads into the house and after a little while, Kiriko comes out and looks up at me sadly.
"Kasumi-nee, are you really moving away?" she asks. She looks like she's going to cry.
I smile at her gently. "Something like that," I reply. "Can you keep a secret?" I ask her quietly.
Her eyes widen and she nods. "I won't tell anyone, I promise!"
"Are you sure?" I ask.
"Yeah."
"Alright then," I say. I whisper into her ear, "I from the past. I used a time machine to help a very kind person, but now my secret mission is done, so I have to go back home."
She looks at me with wide eyes. "Really?" she asks.
I nod. "I still live here in the future though, so my future-self will play with you," I say quietly.
"She will?"
"I promised you, didn't I?"
She nods.
"You have to keep it a secret that I'm from the past though, alright?"
"I promise!"
I smile at her and pat her head. "You're a good kid, Kiriko. Don't forget about me, okay?" She nods and holds out her pinky. I wrap mine around hers. "I'll see you again soon then."
She starts to cry. "Okay," she replies. She gives me a hug and I pat her head.
"It's alright, you'll see me again. I promise."
I stand by the big, round machine next to Hibari as Irie announces, "It's almost time to go, but I'll need you to leave the Vongola boxes here. I smile at Katu as tears come to my eyes. I refuse to cry though. "Thank you, Katsu. Take care, okay?" I say. Katsu nuzzles against me and whimpers quietly. I pet him. "We'll meet again soon. Don't worry." I smile as Roll comes up to me and crawls on my lap. "You too, Roll?" I ask. "Thank you."
Irie says, "Then I'll start up the time warp, since it'd take forever saying our goodbyes. The Arcobaleno will return as soon as they're finished sealing up the Mare Rings. Then…"
Sawada cuts in, "Shoichi-kun."
"Eh?" he asks.
"Um, well…" Sawada starts. He looks at the ground.
"Thank you very much," Irie replies with a smile.
"Goodbye," Sawada says.
Irie says, "Time warp, start!" As usual, there's a bright flash of light and before I know it, I'm back in Kokuyo Land, sitting on the couch.
"Ken? Chikusa?" I ask as I look at the two astounded males in front of me.
"We almost sat on you Kasumi!" Ken shouts.
I start to laugh. "It's nice to be back."
"What are we being so rowdy for?" Mukuro asks. We all look up and turn to the doorway.
"Mukuro-san!" Ken exclaims happily.
I smile. "Mukuro-sama." Even Chikusa seems happy. I notice that my hand feels a little heavier than usual and I look down at my hand. "Katsu." I smile. Thank you, Arcobaleno. All of you.
Hibari-san: Thank you for taking care of me this whole time. I'm dull when it comes to seeing other people's feelings, and my future-self is just as bad. I doubt that I'll change, but I want to ask that you'll be patient with me. I owe you a lot. When I get back, I'll train hard and make sure that I can be a person worthy of fighting with you in the future.
-Kasumi
Hibairi looks over to the woman standing next to him with long, dark, curly hair as she smiles faintly. "Looks like they did well," she comments quietly.
She turns to the shorter, purple-haired girl as she asks her a question. "Where are you going to go next, Kasumi?"
Kasumi straightens out her black blazer as she thinks. "Hm, I'm not sure. Hibari-san, were are we hunting this time?" she asked.
That's right, she went with those guys, the dog and the kappa with the glasses last time. "Rome," he decides.
"The seven wonders of the world, right?" she asks. She must be talking about that time when Gamma said the he was infatuated with the seven wonders of the world because he was travelling around so much. She smiles. "Alright, let's go."
