Chapter 9: Act I Scene VI Stars
It looked like night time on the stage. Mufasa was leading and Zazu was with the two cubs who were behind Mufasa.
"Zazu," Mufasa called. Mufasa stopped and Zazu flew in front of him.
"Yes, sir?" Zazu said trembling.
"Take Nala home," Mufasa ordered. "I need to have a talk with my son." Simba sank into the "grass". Zazu flew over to the cubs.
"Come Nala," Zazu said. He turned to Simba. "Simba, good luck." Zazu then led Nala off stage left.
"Simba," Mufasa called. Simba came to his father. He was right next to his father now. Mufasa turned to look at his son. "Simba, I am very disappointed in you. You deliberately disobeyed me. And what's worse, you put Nala in danger." Simba had tears in his eyes.
"I was just trying to be brave like you," Simba said while sniffing.
"I'm only brave when I need to be," Mufasa told him. "It doesn't mean you go looking for trouble, Simba."
"But you're not scare of anything," Simba exclaimed. Mufasa sighed.
"I was today," Mufasa admitted.
"You were?" Simba asked.
"Yes," Mufasa said. "I was afraid that I might lose you."
"So even kings get scared?" Simba asked.
"Everyone gets scared," Mufasa told him. "Even kings." Simba's face brightened up.
"But you know what?" Simba exclaimed.
"What?" Mufasa asked with a smile.
"I think those hyenas were even scareder," Simba admitted.
"That's right. Because no one messes with your dad," Mufasa said. Mufasa then grabbed Simba. "Come here, you!" Simba ruffled his head.
"No!" Simba exclaimed. He then slipped through Mufasa's grasp and then pounced on him from behind him. Mufasa fell gently to the ground with Simba on top of him. They both chuckled and laughed.
"Dad," Simba said. "We're pals right?"
"Right," Mufasa chuckled.
"And we'll always be together, right?" Simba asked. Mufasa sighed.
"Simba, let me tell you something that my father told me," Mufasa said. He looked up to the "sky". "Look at the stars."
"What about them?" Simba asked.
"The great kings of the past look down on us through those stars," Mufasa informed him.
"Really?" Simba awed.
"Yes," Mufasa responded. "So whenever you feel alone, look to the stars. And remember that those kings will always be there to guide you. As will I." A blackout followed them.
