Chapter 21: Act II Scene VII: The Finale
Simba crouched onto the stage. Scar was on Pride Rock further stage right.
"Sarabi!" Scar called. She walked on stage with her head up as the hyena trio snapped at her feet. Scar got off Pride Rock and landed in front of her.
"Yes, Scar?" Sarabi said.
"Where is your hunting party?" Scar asked."They're not doing their job."
"Scar, there is no food. The herds have moved on," Sarabi told him.
"No. You're just not looking hard enough," Scar responded.
It's over. There is nothing left," Sarabi said."We have only one choice. We must leave Pride Rock."
"We're not going anywhere," Scar stated.
"Then you have sentenced us to death," Sarabi responded.
"Then so be it," Scar declared.
"You can't do that," Sarabi said.
"I'm the queen. I can do whatever I want," Scar said.
"If you were half the ruler Mufasa was you would nev -," Sarabi started. Scar slapped her across the face, which knocked her to the ground.
"I'm ten times the ruler Mufasa was!" Scar exclaimed. Then lightning flashed and thunder rumbled as Simba ran across the stage to him mother. Scar was terrified.
"Mufusa? No, you're dead." Simba gently nudged Sarabi awake.
"Mufusa?" Sarabi questioned. Simba shook his head.
"No it's me," Simba said.
"Simba? But how?" Sarabi responded.
"It doesn't matter now," Simba said as he helped her up. "I'm home."
"Simba? Simba," Scar said. "It's so great to see you alive." She glared at the hyena trio with the corner of her eye. They shrank back in fear. Simba turned from his mother to Scar. He dropped her hands and walked up to her.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't rip you apart," Simba said. Scar started backing up.
"Oh, Simba, must understand. The pressures of ruling a kingdom…" Scar started.
"Are no longer yours," Simba responded. He stopped advancing and Scar stopped backing up. "Step down, Scar."
"Oh Simba, I would LOVE to, but you see them," Scar said gesturing to the hyenas. "They think I'M queen."
"Well, we don't," Nala said as she walked on with the other lionesses."Simba is the rightful king."
"The choice is yours, Scar. Either step down or fight," Simba said. Scar then started to circle Simba.
"Oh, must it all end in violence? I'd hate to be responsible for the death of a family member," Scar said unsympathetically."Wouldn't you agree, Simba?
"That's not gonna work, Scar," Simba responded."I've put it behind me."
"REALLY? But what about your faithful subjects?" Scar said gesturing to the lionesses."Have they put it behind them?"
"Simba, what is she talking about?" Nala asked.
"Ahh, so you haven't told them your little secret." Scar said."Well, Simba, now's your chance to tell them. Tell them who is responsible for Mufasa's death!"
"I am," Simba said.
"It's not true. Tell me it's not true," Sarabi begged.
"It's true," Simba said.
"You see!" Scar exclaimed. "He admits it! Murderer!"
"No," Simba said."It was an accident." Scar walks around and around Simba as he accuses him.
"If it weren't for you, Mufasa would still be alive," Scar stated."It's your fault he's dead; do you deny it?"
"No," Simba answered.
"Then... you're... guilty," Scar stated.
"No. I'm not a murderer," Simba said.
"Oh, Simba, you're in trouble again," Scar said as she advanced toward Simba, drving him closer to the edge."But this time, Daddy isn't here to save you. And now EVERYONE.. KNOWS... WHY!" The rock, which Simba was standing on, broke causing him to fall a bit before he caught himself with his hands. He was now hanging over the ledge.
"Simba!" Then the area below Simba lit on fire.
"Now this looks familiar," Scar said."Hmm. Where have I seen this before? Let me think. Hmmm... hmmm. Oh yes, I remember. This is just the way your father looked before he died." She clawed her fingers into his hands.
"And here's MY little secret," Scar said. "I killed Mufasa."
"NoooooOOOO! ...Murderer!" Simba exclaimed as he got off the ledge and then tackled her to the ground.
"No, Simba, please," Scar started.
"Tell them the truth," Simba ordered.
"Truth?" Scar said."But truth is in the eye of the behold - llgkkk!" Simba began chocking her.
"All right. All right," Scar said."I did it."
"So they can hear you," Simba told her.
"I killed Mufasa!" Scar yelled. Nala starts towards Scar, the hyenas attack Simba in a wall of teeth. The lionesses join in. We see Pumbaa and Timon come in. Pumbaa is charging with Timon riding him. Hyenas are flying everywhere.
"Heeeyyyy-yaaaaah!" Pumbaa exclaimed.
"'Scuse me. Pardon me. Comin' through. Hot stuff. Whoo!" Timon says as the hyenas fly everywhere. Rafiki whacks a hyena off Simba who then runs off after Scar.
"WwwA! Hozah! Hazoww! Yaa! Yah! hhyEEOOWww!" Rakifi exclaimed as he hits several hyenas. Simba chasing Scar up to the high point of Pride Rock. Scar runs up to the edge and sees the sheer drop. Simba leaps up to confront him at the cliff-like edge. Scar is very scared now.
"Murderer," Simba growled.
"Simba, Simba. Please. Please have mercy," Scar begged. "I beg you."
"You don't deserve to live," Simba stated.
"But, Simba, I am... ah... family. It's the hyenas who are the real enemy," Scar said nervously."It was their fault - it was their idea!" She was unaware that they heard that.
"Why should I believe you?" Simba said."Everything you ever told me was a lie."
"What are you going to do?" Scar asked."You wouldn't kill your own Aunt would you?"
"No, Scar," Simba answered."I'm not like you."
"Oh, Simba, thank you," Scar said."You are truly noble. I'll make it up to you, I promise. How can I, ah, prove myself to you? Tell me; I mean, anything."
"Run" Simba told her."Run away, Scar. And never return."
"Yes. Of course," Scar said. She started to walk away."As you wish..."She saw a heap of burning coals."...your Majesty!"Scar swipes the coals into Simba's face. With a cry of surprise and pain, Simba paws the coals away and Scar leaps and attacks. Thinking quickly, Simba uses his legs and flung her off of Pride Rock. Scar then fell onto the ground unharmed and saw the hyena trio in front of her.
"Ahh, my friends," Scar said.
"Frie-he-hends? I thought he said we were the enemy!" Shenzi said.
"Yeah, that's what I heard," Banzai said. Scar's face became filled with terror.
"Ed?" The two said together. Ed laughed evilly. They began to creep towards Scar.
"No. L-L-L-Le-Le-Le-Le-Let me explain," Scar begged."No. You don't understand. No! I didn't mean for... No, No! Look, I m sorry I called you... No! NOO!" Then the hyenas descended onto her and the lights went out on her. Then "rain" fell and the fire diminished. Simba found Nala and hugged her. He then turned to Rafiki.
"It is time," Rafiki told Simba. Simba nodded and walked up Pride Rock as the "rain" continued to fall. He reached the top.
"Remember . . ." Mufasa's voice said. Then Simba roared and color instantly returned and so did other animals. Nala, Timon, and Pumbaa all walked up Pride Rock as a song began.
"Busa le lizwe [Rule this land] Busa le lizwe [Rule this land] Busa le lizwe [Rule this land] Bus-busa ngo xolo [Rule, rule with peace] {Obscured verse} MS: Se-fi-le Baba ti-tabo Maye babo Busa lomhlaba [Rule this land] BS: {Obscured verse} MS: He! The lights went out and the audience applauded. The lights then came on and each actor or actress took their own individual and unique bow before they bowed together as a group. The guy playing Mufasa stepped forward.
"Thank you all for coming and there's food in the commission," he announced. "We'll see you there."
Note: SO sorry about taking so long with this. When I started writing the play part I thought it would take a few weeks not months! Again, sorry!
