"Am I daydreaming? Was that really her?" He wondered, trying to catch a last glimpse of the woman. "If it was, who was the child? Maybe it was just someone else." He brushed the thought away.
He focused his attention on his phone checking for any messages or phone calls. If there were any, he was sure it would just be about work or his annoying friend Ruka.
He arrived at his fancy and expensive apartment but it was quiet with no one to give a hello or even just smile at him. Silence like this makes him miss her and to think he thought that he had moved on. He missed her. His mind would always wonder where she could be right now and if she misses him too. This place he calls home was not a home to him even though with the spacious kitchen which he hardly cooks in, the 3 bedrooms which only one room is used, the wide living room with the couch so comfortable with no one to sit with. He was alone in his home and he was used to it but he didn't want a life forever like that.
He went to his answering machine and pressed, play.
He was changing while listening to the messages. There was quite a lot from fan girls. Since that magazine came out, he is getting more fans everyday which was getting really annoying. They were disturbing his office atmosphere by sending him cards and gifts daily.
But finally, there was a significant message. It was from his best friend, Ruka. "Natsume. I just arrived from my trip and sorry I can't come with you to the party tomorrow night. I have a date with Hotaru and I promised her. You know how she gets when we plan and I would suddenly back out." He explained. "So, good luck." Then beep.
Yeah, even he doesn't want to get in trouble with Hotaru Imai. She was one of the scariest woman he had ever met and nothing fazes her especially with whatever crazy inventions she had. She is the true master blackmailer and greatest detective he knows, maybe it's also because they ran a security agency.
He deleted all the messages and went to the living room.
Although, it came as a shock to him when Ruka and she started dating just last year, he felt just a little jealous with him for he was with someone he loves. Love works in mysterious ways.
Ever since he graduated college at 21, he changed a lot. Graduating early meant starting in the competitive world of business earlier and it was exhausting. But as you can say, he is a genius and he never backs down from challenges.
He turned on the television to cure the solitude. "Ahh…I am really bored and dead tired. The television is not even helping." He thought as he ran his fingers through his dark hair. So instead, he turned on his laptop and started doing work until he could take no longer.
Ruka felt bad lying to his bestfriend since it wasn't really just a date with Hotaru. They were visiting Mikan and little boy, Natsuki. He was looking forward to finally seeing them again after 3 years, although he talked with them often, seeing them wasn't really that convenient.
"Mikan, it has been so long since you came back to Canada." He exclaimed, giving Mikan a hug. "Let's see, about 3 years?" he raised three fingers up. He really did miss his friend. Mikan was the light in their group. She always had a cheery attitude and was usually very kind with her smiles. But, she changed somehow. Having to raise a child singlehandedly surely wasn't easy.
"How about you little boy?" he turned to the smiling Natsuki. "You sure did grow up." Ruka said, patting him on the head. "The resemblance is so uncanny." He thought as he looked closely.
Sensing what Ruka was thinking, she looked at him and gave him a smile that told him, "I know"
"Idiot. Aren't you going to tell him?" Her bestfriend, Hotaru said, smacking her lightly on the head
"I don't know." She replied, rubbing her head. "Maybe it's not time yet." Mikan said with a worried look.
"So, if you didn't come back here to tell him, then why?" Hotaru curiously asked with her eyebrow raised.
Mikan didn't answer her directly. She watched as the two boys were playing and talking about his comic books.
"So why?" Hotaru asked again, not dropping the topic.
She faced her friend. "I came back here because I want him to grow up here." She paused. "This is my home and my family is here." Pertaining to her friends.
"I don't believe you. There's more to it." Hotaru shrugged. "You'll tell me anyway when you feel like it." she didn't push Mikan for more.
"Some things really never change especially with you Hotaru." Mikan said with a teasing expression, smiling at her friend's receptiveness.
"How about we all eat dinner together? What do you think?" Ruka said loudly, facing Mikan and then his girlfriend who gave him an "okay" look.
Natsuki, being the energetic toddler that he is, ran to Ruka's arm and was lifted up into the air. Natsuki may have his looks but a part of his attitude was just like his mother. His being jolly, bubbly and cheerful. But that was the old Mikan Sakura. She has changed, not completely but she did.
In the car, Natsuki couldn't stop talking. He was constantly asking Hotaru about her inventions and how she does it. The questions just never seem to end. But Hotaru was unexpectedly patient with him, answering his questions straight to the point like an adult. She may seem cold but she has a soft spot for the little boy.
Mikan was looking outside the window, thinking. "Must I tell him?" Ruka and Hotaru noticed her and they just looked at each other and went back to entertaining the inquisitive boy.
They arrived at the restaurant just about time that there weren't so many people. So they were able to easily get a table.
They were enjoying the dinner especially Natsuki who always knows how to enjoy his meal. For a three year old, he eats quite a lot and he got that from his mother.
"Even the party is boring." Natsume thought to himself. "Having these flirty and slutty women doesn't help either." He looked around, disgusted how some women throw themselves for fame and money.
"Hey look. Isn't that the famous Natsume Hyuuga?" a girl wearing a dress that wasn't quite her size, said.
"Where?" another girl exclaimed, glancing. "Oh, I see him. He's really handsome." The girl said giggling with her friend.
"GIRLS. So annoying." He thought.
He didn't notice that a girl approached him for he was so busy with his drink. It was his 3rd drink for the night.
"Hi, Natsume." She flirtingly said. "I am-" the poor girl wasn't even able to finish her sentence.
"I am not interested." With that, he left the girl stunned. So, the great Natsume Hyuuga wasn't so kind. He is very frank and doesn't really care about others' opinion of him because… well, he is Natsume Hyuuga.
He left the party for he can't stand it there anymore. He was annoyed by the memories that were hunting him that it even made him think that he saw just a few days ago.
He drove and thought about going "home" but changed his mind. So he had a little joy ride along the city. He was bored and a little late night city drive would be better than the silence of his apartment.
"Ruka, its fine." Mikan declined when he offered to carry Natsuki up to the apartment. "You don't have to come with us. I can carry him. He really had fun today. Thank you." Mikan said with the sleeping child in her arms. "Hotaru, thanks for tonight." She thanked her. "We had fun." Then she went up.
After seeing Mikan go to their home, Ruka and Hotaru left. They all had fun, talking and remembering their younger days. Contrary to their night, another friend of theirs was having a shitty one.
Arriving at her apartment, she placed the sleeping child on the bed while she went to the living room and sat down trying to find out an answer to one particular question, must she tell him or not."
"I don't know. Maybe fate will tell me." She thought and with that she fell asleep with the dreams that are the memories she used to remember so happily.
His road unconsciously brought him here. To the calm sea. He remembers this place with the memories that seemed like it happened just yesterday. He treasured those memories and it had always led him back to her. Those memories that are still the happiest for him.
"That's enough reminiscing." He ended his already lost thoughts. "I need to go home." And so he did.
He arrived home and turned on the light. He drops his keys and looks around. He found nothing helpful to lighten his mood. Natsume just decided to call it a night and dreamt of what used to be.
How was it? Better or it worsened? HAHA.
