It is the time of their graduation party. They were enjoying and celebrating at the beach having so much fun and not noticing how much they have drank already.
"Mikan" He kissed her, embracing her like there was no more tomorrow.
"I love you, Mikan." He said meaning the words, after giving more kisses.
"I love you too, Natsume." She smiled back, slightly intoxicated but still honest and true.
After with all the dancing and drinking, they were now walking at the beach hand in hand, laughing and enjoying the moment. Unknowingly, they both got in the same room. Mikan careless as she was or maybe her drunkenness caused it, she tripped that both got her and Natsume in a weird position. Mikan laughed like an idiot but Natsume just looked at her with his crimson eyes straight to her eyes. She stopped.
"Ne, Natsume, what's wrong?"
Before she can say anything else, Natsume crashed his lips to hers. She kissed him back with fervor of her own. Natsume caressed her cheeks as he kissed her slowly down her neck.
She woke up, startled by the memories that came haunting her back as dreams. "Woah! That was close!" Mikan said wiping the sweat on her forehead. "Wait! It was something that had already happened." She said.
Past should be in the past, but that wasn't Mikan's case as she looked at the sleeping child beside her. She had a constant reminder of her past that both gave her life and left her hurt and broken. "He is the result." As she lightly touched her son's sleeping face.
Unable to go back to sleep, she got up and went to the living room after drinking a glassful of water. She sat down and got up again and paced around the room. She was too uneasy and worried and confused. She knew she needed to make a decision and the sooner she does, the better.
"I never had a dream like that. After 3 years since that…what has gotten into me?" She wondered, pacing still and went to the kitchen then drank another glassful of water.
She woke up to a knocking sound on the door. She fell asleep at the living room, crouched in her couch.
"AHH! So early in the morning, who could be here?" Mikan stomped her way to the door, annoyed that someone could disturb so early and she had a really bad night's rest.
Whoever the person was really impatient since whoever that person was, was already really knocking so hard probably waking up half of the people in the establishment.
"Wait! I'm coming." Mikan shouted, not as loud as her brain was telling her to, her feet hastily walking to the door.
She opened the door and to her surprised, it revealed her black-haired friend, Hotaru.
"What took you so long to open the door?" Hotaru asked, getting past Mikan, walking inside the house like it was her own.
"Sorry" was all Mikan said as she softly closed the door and followed her friend to the kitchen.
"Hotaru? What is she doing here early in the morning and coming unannounced? She usually tells me when she will visit." Mikan thought, curious as to what reason could bring her here at this time.
"Natsuki is not awake yet?" Hotaru asked, making herself some coffee. "You want one? It seems you need it too." She gestured, as she made one too for Mikan.
"Thanks." Mikan replied, leaning on the counter. "And no, he is still asleep. Is there a problem?" Taking the hot coffee mug in hand. Hotaru can be cruel and harsh, but she is one of a kind. She knows exactly when to be kind and giving. Like the coffee, Mikan needed it to warm her half-awake self and calm her indecisive mind.
"Not really. It is actually more convenient." Hotaru shrugged as they sat on the little breakfast nook. "We need to talk." She became serious. Looking at Mikan straight in the eye.
Feeling that it was going to be a long talk "Okay. But let me prepare breakfast first." Mikan was about to stand up.
"No, its fine. I am not really hungry and I don't think it's going to take so long." Hotaru said stopping Mikan.
"Okay." She sat back down. "You are really scaring me. You are too serious." Mikan commented, nervous.
"I know you're confused and worried but I just want you to think about it, Mikan. It is not just about you."
"I know. Natsuki is always going to be my top priority." Mikan looked down, grasping the mug a little tighter.
"But this decision can also change your life. I can see it in your eyes that you still feel the same for him." Hotaru was always perceptive and among all people she can read well, it was Mikan.
"What I feel is something I don't really need right now." Mikan sighed.
"But it still matters, Mikan." Hotaru said to her with a tone of kindness. "Anyway, that's all I came to say." She stood up, placed her empty cup on the sink.
"Bye, Mikan." She headed for the door, leaving an astounded Mikan Sakura on her seat.
Mikan sighed and closed her eyes. "Is that Hotaru's way of telling me that I should just go for it?" She pondered, perplexedly.
"Mommy…" The little boy called drowsily, as he climbed up to his mother's lap.
"Did I wake you?" she asked him, securing Natsuki with a comfortable hug.
"Was that Auntie Hotaru?" he asked, rubbing his eyes.
"Yeah. But she left already." Mikan replied. "Wait here, I'll prepare breakfast, okay?" Mikan said smiling at her son.
"Okay." The boy grinned, fully awake now.
Even while cooking, she just can't get the thought out of her mind. She remembered what Hotaru had said.
"Mikan, what have you decided?"
"I don't know yet, Hotaru. It's hard."
"Mikan, you know me. I will really say what I want to. You want help with your decision, I agree with Natsume. It is the good for Natsuki."
"Honestly, it hasn't been easy being a single mother but I managed even without him." Mikan said defensively.
"I know you can. But what about your son, can he manage growing up without his father?" Hotaru asked with her eyes looking at Mikan.
Mikan was speechless. Now that she thought about it, it all makes sense.
"I know you're confused and worried but I just want you to think about it, Mikan. It is not just about you."
So lost in her thoughts, Mikan didn't notice that the supposedly breakfast was already a charred piece of bacon.
Mikan sighed seeing what happened and instead she prepared cereals for Natsuki. She wasn't much in the mood to eat anyway and she needed to decide as soon as possible before anything else worse might happen.
"Hotaru? Where have you been?" Ruka asked as soon as she has arrived.
"I just went to see Mikan." She replied nonchalantly.
"Why?" Ruka knew why, he just needed to hear the confirmation.
"Just trying to help her" was all she simply said.
Ruka didn't say anything more for it seems like Hotaru was not much in a good mood and trying to ask more questions would surely annoy her and make both their days bad.
"Do you think what I did was right?" She asked looking at Ruka, worry not escaping Ruka's watchful stare.
Ruka went to her side, "When you are doing something for someone special, we tend to forget if we did the right thing just to help them out but whatever it is, I believe you did what is best." He smiled at her, hoping that it comforted her in some way.
"Best? I just hope that baka decides what is best for the both of them." She sighed as she leaned her head to Ruka's shoulder. The few moments when she becomes sweet and physical with him.
"But thank you, Ruka." She said giving him her rare smiles.
"Anything for you." Ruka said giving her shoulder a gentle squeeze as he enjoyed the morning romance between them, even just for a little while.
"Hyuuga-sama, you have a phone call." The pink-haired secretary said as she placed the call on hold.
"Who is he?" Natsume asked, not really in the mood to talk to anyone.
"It is a she, sama." His secretary corrected. "And her name is Sakura. She says it is very important."
"Sakura?" He stood still. "Why should she be calling me?" Natsume wondered.
"Okay. Connect the call." He directed and cleared his throat.
"Hello. Hyuuga speaking." He answered, trying to make sure it was really Mikan.
"Hyuuga"
"Mikan" So it was really her. "Is there a problem?" he asked her, worried that something bad had happened.
"No, there's no problem." He can hear Mikan's voice tremble a bit. "I just wanted to tell you that I agree."
"Agree?" He had to make sure it was about the marriage proposal. He didn't want to become an assuming person and make a fool of himself.
"I agree to what you said. I gave it much thought and I realize this is the best thing to do for Natsuki." Mikan's voice was straight and Natsume hoped that this wasn't one of his dreams.
"Really? I'm glad that you accept it."
"That's all I called for. I need to go. Bye." And Mikan hung the phone up.
Natsume couldn't believe it. Mikan had accepted his proposal despite him messing it up and he can get to spend a lot of time with his little family soon.
How was it?
Do you think that she made the right decision? Let me know by reviewing your thoughts.
