Every Mothers Nightmare Part 6

Once upon a time

Jonah continued, "Now you know that is not the truth about them being inbred. Do you know what that even means?"

Vergil gazed up at his grandfather, and even though his expression was serious, there was an unmistakable twinkle in his eyes. He did know what it meant, after his father had called those particular cousins inbred yokels, he had looked it up. "Oh yes grandpa I do know. I think papa was really mad because when Aunt Ginger brought them over one time, they didn't use silverware and ate spaghetti with their hands. It would have been different if they were babies, but they're older than Dante and I. And grandpa, they threw their food on the floor, and belched and farted without saying excuse me." Vergil paused and continued, "They didn't say please or thank you, or any other show of manners."

He lowered his eyes to hide the hurt. He didn't want to say what the eldest boy had said, but he knew that his grandfather would want to know. He took in a deep breath and continued, "Zeke said my mama was a…was a…was a whore who had to troll the docks until she found someone as ugly as she was to…" He paused again, and leaned up to whisper the word in his grandfather's ear, "fuck."

Jonah stood abruptly, still holding his grandson, when he spoke his voice was cold and deadly, "William, I think it's time that you and your family leave." He held up his free hand to stop the interruption, "No, you need to leave. In the future if you do come to visit, Ginger and the children are not welcome here." He sit Vergil to his feet and advanced toward his son, "And you had best listen to me boyo, I'm not sure if it was you or you're wife who said those things about your sister, before you leave you are to apologize to her." His icy glare took on Ginger and their children, "That includes you."

Ginger looked reluctant until she saw the look on her husbands face and knew that she and their children had pushed it too far. She reluctantly apologized and had the children do the same.

As the door closed behind them, Vergil looked over at his mother who was crying, before his father could reach her Dante had, and was soon joined by Vergil. Dante was holding her and rubbing her back, where he was trying to wipe away her tears. "Don't cry mama." He said softly. "Please don't cry. It hurts my heart when you cry. And if you continue to cry, I'm going to have to hunt them down and make them wish they were dead. Nobody hurts my mama and gets away with it, and Dante's going to help. Right Taye?"

Eva stopped crying and gathered her sons into her arms. "My heroes. Thank you, my boys. Now I don't know about everyone else but I am hungry."

The rest of the visit was spent without further incident, with much joy and laughter. Goodbyes were said, and everyone went to their perspective homes.
