Paranoid
"I can't believe you told the waiter that he looked like the mutant clown from Revenge of the Killer Circus," Freddie said as him and Sam walked into the apartment Sam shared with Carly.
"I didn't mean it as an insult; that clown's my favorite character!" Sam defended. "I don't see why he would cry about that."
"Yeah, he's the crazy one for not seeing the compliment in that," Freddie chuckled as he wrapped an arm around her and brought her closer to him so he could lean down and kiss her. "By the way…you know you look insanely hot in that dress, right?"
"You told me when you first got here to pick me up," Sam smirked. "And you kept drooling over it all night at dinner…"
"Yeah, well, I thought I'd just give you a reminder," Freddie said, kissing her again.
Sam and Freddie had been dating for three months now, and though neither of them would've predicted things winding up the way they did, both couldn't have been happier with their newfound relationship. True, Freddie still attended school across the country at MIT while Sam still went to Washington State, but so far the distance had only strengthened their relationship. And now that it was the summer, the two planned on taking full advantage of the next few months they would have together.
"Want some desert?" Sam asked as the two stepped into the kitchen. "We have ice cream."
"Not right now, I'm still pretty stuffed from dinner," Freddie told her.
Sam opened up the freezer and pulled out the carton for herself. "Suit yourself."
"So where's Carly?" Freddie asked as Sam grabbed a spoon from the counter.
"Her and Spencer are spending the weekend in Canada with their dad," Sam replied. "They left this morning."
"Really?" Freddie said slowly. "So you're here by yourself?"
"I guess," Sam shrugged.
"Oh," Freddie said, clearing his throat. "Well…I-I would think that would get a little lonely for you. If it were me staying here all alone all weekend, I think I would want someone to stay over with me. You know, just to have someone to talk to and-"
"Alright, alright, I get the hint," Sam laughed. "Wanna stay over, baby?"
"Well is that cool with you?" Freddie asked.
"Yeah," Sam grinned. "It will be fun. It will be our first sleepover as a couple."
"I'll have to remember to thank Carly for this," Freddie chuckled as he wrapped his arms around Sam.
"Well what are you gonna tell your mom?" Sam asked. "She's going to be frantic when you don't show up home tonight."
"Sam, I am an adult," Freddie said. "I don't have to let my mom know where I am every minute of the day."
Sam raised an eyebrow.
"I'm gonna tell her I'm staying overnight at the clinic she likes to get sleep tests done to see if my sleep waves are abnormal," Freddie said. "She's been bugging me to do that for years."
"Smart," Sam nodded. She craned her neck to kiss him. "This is gonna be the best, Fredwash."
….
"I forgot how nice it is to take a shower without having to sign a Double Poo contract," Freddie said, stepping into Sam's bedroom where she was sitting on her bed, flipping through a magazine.
"What does she do when you're up at school?" Sam asked.
"There's an online form," Freddie sighed, hanging up his towel and flopping down on the bed next to his girlfriend.
Sam tossed aside the magazine and moved closer to him. "So…what do you wanna do now? It's only eleven. The night's still young."
"I'll tell you what I want to do," Freddie grinned, pulling Sam down on top of him and kissing her passionately.
"Ah," Sam laughed when they pulled apart for breath. "I like what you have in mind."
The two continued to simply make out for several moments. Soon, though, Freddie slowly pulled away.
"What?" Sam frowned.
"I just…Sam, listen, can-can I ask you something?" Freddie asked hesitantly.
"What's up?"
"It's just…you know, we've been dating for three months now…I'm spending the night at your place," Freddie said, his face reddening slightly. "I-I was wondering if maybe, er, um, not-not to pressure you or anything, but I was wondering if maybe you wanted to discuss taking-taking things to the next, er, level?"
"Like sex?" Sam asked bluntly.
Freddie's face turned even more red. "Um, yeah…that."
Sam looked down at her lap.
"We don't have to!" Freddie said quickly. "I-Sorry, I-I shouldn't have brought it up and-"
"I want to," Sam said softly.
Freddie's eyes widened. "You-You do?" he asked, his voice much higher than usual.
Sam nodded. "Yeah, I-I do. But, it's just…never mind. It's stupid."
"No, Sam, tell me," Freddie said gently. "What is it?"
"It's just…last time I did this with a guy, it-it was a disaster," Sam whispered.
"Oh yeah," Freddie said heavily. "That stupid Wyatt punk…I swear, I should've taught that guy a lesson-"
"He's got at least fifty pounds on you; he would've creamed you," Sam said, giving him a small smile. "But…I dunno. It just…it was the worst feeling ever after-after we slept together and then he told me he was done with me."
"I know it was," Freddie nodded. "But baby…I'm not Wyatt. I would never do that to you."
"I know you wouldn't," Sam said, squeezing his hand. "I just…I still hate myself for doing that with him. If I hadn't then my first time would've been with someone who I actually cared about and who cared about me….It would've been with you."
"Aw, Sam, we-we talked about this," Freddie said sympathetically. "Don't give that jerk the satisfaction of knowing he's still in your head like this. He might have been your first time by technicalities, but that doesn't mean he has to be your real first time. The first time that you'll always remember."
Sam looked up at him. "What about you?"
"What about me?"
"Have you had your first time yet?" Sam asked softly. "I-I've never asked you in the time we've been a couple, and before we got together I doubt I'd be the person you'd tell."
Freddie shook his head. "Nope…I-I haven't. As much as a loser as that makes me."
"It doesn't make you a loser," Sam told him.
"You don't think?"
"Nah," Sam replied. "You have hundreds of other things that make you a loser."
Freddie laughed.
"But um," Sam said, clearing her throat. "Are-Are you ready? You know, if-if we were to-"
Freddie took a deep breath and nodded. "I know we've only been dating a little while, but-but I already know that I love you. I know that we're real good together and-and I know that when I look back on our first time together…well, I'll probably have a big, stupid grin on my face."
"Like the grin you have when you think about Galaxy Wars?" Sam chuckled.
"Even bigger and stupider," Freddie assured her. "But hey, just because I'm ready doesn't mean we have to do anything. We'll wait until we're both ready. I love you, no matter what we do."
Sam craned her neck and gently kissed him. When they pulled apart she looked into his dark, brown eyes.
"I'm ready," she said softly.
"Are-Are you sure?" Freddie asked, trying not to seem to eager. "Because seriously, Sam, I have no problem if you want to wait."
"I love you too," Sam said earnestly. "And that's why I want to do this."
Freddie beamed as he leaned down to kiss her again. "Well in that case…who am I to argue?"
