"How long can this ceremony last?" Sam mumbled under her breath as she slumped down in her seat. "I'm about to die from boredom!"
"It has been pretty long," Freddie whispered back, looking at his watch. "Even for a wedding ceremony."
"Shh!" Carly hissed from her seat next to them. "Behave, you two!"
Sam rolled her eyes and kicked off her heels. "Well if I'm gonna sit in these uncomfortable seats, I want to at least be comfortable."
"Fair enough, I guess," Freddie chuckled.
"I can't believe I got guilted into coming to this thing," Sam continued.
"How do you even know Lindsay anyway?" Freddie asked. "I haven't even heard you mention her before you brought up this wedding."
"I barely know her, she's Carly's sorority sister, remember?" Sam sighed. "I've met her like, three or four times when Carly dragged me to some of their parties last year. I honestly have no clue why she invited me. It's going to be so awkward having to see her at the reception."
"Well what about me? I've never even met her!" Freddie pointed out. "I'm just here as your plus one!"
"What is wrong with you two?" Carly whispered angrily at the couple. "We are at a wedding? Lindsay and Ken are saying their vows!"
"They've been saying their vows for the past thirty minutes," Sam said. "That's insane! All you need to say is that you love each other and you can maybe throw in one cheesy anecdote. This chick went on for ten whole minutes about how she wished her childhood dog could've been here to see this moment!"
"This does seem excessive," Freddie nodded in agreement.
"I don't care how excessive it is!" Carly snapped. "You are both twenty-one-year old adults! Act like it!"
"Good thing she didn't bring the spray bottle," Sam smirked to her boyfriend.
Freddie grinned. "Good thing," he agreed.
"Knew I should've brought that spray bottle," Carly mumbled darkly.
…
"Hey, what do you think the record is for longest wedding ceremony?" Sam asked two hours later as everybody headed out of the church. "Because those two just broke it. I bet their reception's going to last even longer."
"Well you can at least eat there," Freddie pointed out.
"Lindsay is a vegan," Sam said, shaking her head. "All the food's probably going to be made of tofu or something."
"Oh…" Freddie frowned.
Sam looked across the street at the large reception hall, where people were already beginning to file in. "This is gonna suck…"
"Well, it's just the reception, we don't have to stay the whole time," Freddie said.
"Yeah we do, genius, Carly drove us over here, remember?" Sam sighed. "Her entire sorority is at this thing. She's not going to want to leave any time soon."
"Right…" Freddie groaned. "What were we thinking not driving here ourselves?"
"Maybe there's an open bar at least," Sam mumbled.
When the two reached the reception hall, Sam instantly felt like she walked into her worst nightmare. The hall was decorated with the most filly, over-the-top decorations she had ever seen, and overly happy people were running around giving people obnoxiously cheerful greetings as loud pop music blared.
"Well…" Freddie said as the two stood in the entranceway. "This is…"
"Horrible!" Sam finished for him. "This is worse than I even imagined!"
"Yeah, this is pretty bad," Freddie sighed.
Sam looked behind her across the corridor at the door that led to the other reception hall. A couple had just opened it to walk in, and before it closed behind them, Sam was able to get a peek inside. It looked like a much more tolerable set up than what they were currently trapped in.
"Hey, baby, I have an idea," Sam said. "Let's go crash the reception across the hall!"
"What?" Freddie frowned.
"Yeah, let's just go there instead," Sam nodded. "It looks like it could actually be fun. Unlike this…you know there's not even cake here? They brought wedding tapioca."
"I don't know," Freddie said hesitantly. "Carly's already annoyed with us for talking through the ceremony."
"Dude, look at her, she's hanging out with all her 'sisters'," Sam said, rolling her eyes as she nodded over to Carly. The brunette was, in fact, busy laughing loudly with a large group of girls. "She won't even notice we're gone."
"But what if the couple across the hall realizes that they don't know who we are and that we don't belong there!" Freddie said. "We're one semester away from graduating college, Sam. I can't get a criminal record; it's not in my plan!"
"Freddie, there's hundreds of people at that wedding," Sam said. "No one's going to realize we're crashing. The bride's guests will think we know the groom, and the groom's guests will think we know the bride. Come on, I saw them passing out those tiny hot dogs in there!"
Freddie looked around, taking in just how boring the reception he currently was at really was. "Fine," he sighed.
After making sure that Carly still wasn't looking, Sam and Freddie quickly snuck out of the hall and hurried across the corridor to the second room.
The second reception couldn't have been more different from the one that the couple had just left. Platters of delicious looking appetizers were everywhere and a live band was playing at a small stage at the front of the room.
"Huh, now this is bearable," Sam commented, grabbing a platter of bacon-wrapped sausages from a passing waiter.
"Yeah, I'll say," Freddie nodded.
"Champagne?" another waiter offered, coming up to the couple with a tray of glasses.
"Alright, was this a great idea or what?" Sam grinned as her and Freddie took their glasses.
"Yeah, yeah, Puckett," Freddie chuckled. He finished off his drink and then took Sam's hand. "Hey, wanna dance with me?"
"You don't like dancing," Sam reminded him.
"No, but you like dancing," Freddie said. "And I like you. Therefore…"
"Aw, are you trying to use fancy logic?" Sam smiled as she put her arms around her boyfriend. She leaned up and kissed him. "Alright, let's go dance."
They headed out onto the crowded dance floor. Just as Sam expected, Freddie was a very clumsy dancer. He bumped into the people around him and stepped on Sam's feet several times.
"Sorry, I-I'm not exactly good at this, am I?" Freddie said to Sam.
Sam pulled him closer to her. "You're doing just fine, baby."
…..
A few hours later, after several glasses of champagne, an exquisite steak dinner, and more dancing than either of them had done in a long time, Sam and Freddie sat at an empty table in a far off corner of the hall.
"I don't know who these people are, but they sure know how to throw a party," Freddie said as Sam rested her head on his shoulder.
"They really do," Sam nodded. She looked back out onto the dance floor, where the bride and the groom were happily dancing together.
"Hopefully our wedding will be like this," Freddie said. "With everybody laughing and having a good time. Not like the one we just left."
"Our wedding, huh?" Sam smirked, looking up at him. "I'm pretty sure for us to have a wedding we'd need to be engaged first. Well, unless you're my Aunt Maggie. She usually just elopes."
"Well, like I said earlier, we only have one more semester of college left," Freddie said. "So don't you worry, Puckett. It's coming."
"Huh," Sam said. "Good to know. Though isn't it typically supposed to be a surprise when you get proposed to? I don't think you're supposed to announce your intentions ahead of time."
"You'll be surprised," Freddie assured her.
"Oh, so have you given this thought?" Sam grinned.
"Maybe," Freddie said simply. He leaned over and kissed her temple.
Sam rolled her eyes, though he cheeks were bright red. "Well…whenever you decided to do it…you know I'll say yes, right?"
Freddie said nothing, but simply leaned down and kissed her again, this time capturing her lips. "I love you," he whispered.
"I love you too," Sam whispered back.
Just then Sam's phone began to ring, and she looked down at the screen and saw Carly's name flashing across.
"Chiz, that's Carly!" Sam said, jumping up. "She must be looking for us. We've been gone for hours!"
"Oh right, let's get back," Freddie nodded, standing up as well. The couple hurried out of the reception hall and back across the corridor to the wedding they were actually apart of. When they walked in, they were glad to see that it looked like things were finally winding down.
"Hey, there you two are," Carly said, approaching them. "Where were you two?"
"Um, we-we-" Freddie stammered.
"You two snuck off to make out somewhere, didn't you?" Carly smirked knowingly.
"Er, yeah, that's exactly what we did," Sam nodded.
"Well are you two ready to go?" Carly asked.
"Um, sure," Freddie said.
"This was such a fun day," Carly said as the three set out to the parking lot. "I just love weddings. I wonder when I'll get to go to one again."
Sam and Freddie exchanged knowing looks behind her.
"Maybe sooner than you think, Carls," Freddie said softly.
