Chapter 13: Reunited
Professor: I am soooo sorry about the long update time! Sadly, this story has been put on hiatus for a short time (well, hopefully short). To tell you the truth, I started to get overwhelmed with the amount of stories I had going so I put all but one on hiatus so I could put all of my efforts onto that one story and make it really good, then move on to my next stories after that. That's why it has been so long between chapters. I'm sorry!
But, I have decided that you all need a new chapter as a Christmas present and so here you go!
I own nothing but Farian.
And Fi still owns a bunch of money from a Gin Rummy tournament….
…
Link walked through the tunnel that lead to the dungeons. As he had expected, breaking into the castle had been easy, even with the added protection from the failed battle. The Telmarines weren't the best fighters in the world, but sneaking past them was easier than expected. It was almost like they were under some sort of spell.
However, none of that was Link's concern right now. He was concerned about only two things. One, getting Zelda and Impa out of there safely and two, how to explain to the others that he left without telling them to go save the two girls.
He would deal with the second one later, right now; he was focused on the first.
The tunnel started to slope downwards and Link followed it, sword at the ready.
It was all quiet for a few moments…until Link's ears were met with the sound of running feet. Quickly, he pushed himself against the wall and waited to see who would round the corner.
The shadows extended and Link got ready to swing his sword…only to stop suddenly when Zelda and Impa ran around the corner, stopping in shock when they saw him.
"Link?! What are you doing here?!" Zelda said in a hushed whisper.
He stared at her, "Rescuing you! What are you doing?!"
"We are rescuing ourselves." Impa said, "The people here don't have the power to hold the Sage of Shadow or the Princess. It wasn't hard to escape, especially after we cast a spell on them to make them ignore us."
'Well, that explains that.' He thought before saying: "So I came here for nothing?" Link huffed and sheathed his sword, "Great. How did you plan on leaving?"
Impa raised an eyebrow, "Out the front door, after we have tea with Miraz."
Link opened his mouth to respond but Zelda cut him off, "Both of you flirt later. We have a bigger situation to deal with."
"We weren't flirting!" They said at the same time but Zelda waved off their protests.
"Link, please tell me that you got the baby to safety."
He raised an eyebrow, "Yeah…Caspian got him out of here. Why?"
"Because without that kid, Miraz's armies will wipe out the Narnians. We had to have some card to play against him," she explained, "Now let's go."
"There's a servants' entrance just a little ways away that I used to get in," Link said, "We should be able to make it without a problem. There aren't a lot of guards."
Impa nodded in agreement, "I can use the shadows to hide us if you point me in the right direction."
The three of them shared a look and then started on their way. Impa concentrated a moment and then nodded. She had made the shadows surround them. Even if they couldn't tell, the three of them looked invisible to anyone else.
They went down the hall, running into no guards in the tunnel and making out of the servants' entrance quickly. After that, they had to sneak past a few of the guards in the courtyard, but thanks to Impa's shadows, it wasn't a problem. After they left the castle, she dropped the spell.
"And you needed to rescue us from that?" she raised her eyebrow at Link.
"Sorry for being worried. Next time, I'll let you stay captured," he responded sarcastically.
Zelda giggled, "Well doesn't this bring back memories…"
Link glared at her while Impa just looked confused.
'Could it be…his Impa she is talking about?' she wondered to herself, 'Just how alike were we?'
"Let's get a move on," Link said, walking forward, all humor out of his voice, "We have a long way to go and Zelda, you need to explain your plan."
The two girls walked with him.
"What plan?"
He glanced at her, "You have a plan. I know you, your face gives it away. What is your plan?"
She was quiet a moment before responding, "That baby gives us a bargaining chip. I hate tearing him away from his family and doing that to any child, but I had no choice here. While I stayed in that castle, I saw Miraz's plans for the war. I knew that the Narnians had no chance so I looked up some of the old laws. There was one that stated a war could be decided through one-on-one combat between two champions. I knew that Miraz would never agree to that if we asked him alone, but if we asked him in front of people, his owner and pride would make him agree to it. The baby just secures us a meeting with him in an official setting like that."
Link and Impa thought about it for a moment. It was a good plan and it would save a lot of bloodshed.
"One problem." Link said.
Zelda looked at him in surprise.
"You have to bring it up to the Narnians and they want Miraz's head on a platter. They'll never agree to it unless the Miraz agrees to fight as the champion for his army."
"That's a small matter," Zelda waved his concern away, "It all has to do with how you present your argument to the other side. The details of the agreement can be that Miraz has to fight for his side, since he is the King and the 'best to represent them'."
"Will he be willing to put his own life on the line for that though?" Impa asked, pushing a tree branch out of the way.
"Maybe not for his people, but he should for his son."
"Is that our only plan?" Impa asked, "It has a lot riding on it. I would feel better if we had something in reserve."
They fell silent again, thinking about the Sage's words. After passing a large rock, Link spoke up.
"Aslan."
"What?" Zelda asked, looking at him.
"Aslan," he repeated, "We can send someone to look for him. Probably Lucy since she's seen him already. He'll have the power to help us in the war."
"That's another 'if'" Impa said, "We don't know where he is or if he'll help."
"He'll help," Link said, "He already has. And besides, do you have a better plan?"
"Sadly not," she lied. But in her mind, she was already sending a message to the Sages.
Professor: And here is the next chapter! Oh my, what plan could Impa be hatching?
Fi: You know the plan.
Professor: Well I'm sorry that I was trying to be excited.
Fi: *shakes head* At least you updated.
Professor: Once again, I'm sorry about the long wait. I will try to finish all of my stories as fast as I can. Merry Christmas!
