Prologue

The Artemis, Third POV

A black and white mech looks down at two tiny femmelings in his arms. The first newspark—only a few minutes old at this point—has a predominantly yellow Praxian frame, with pink and baby blue accents, while the second—younger than the first by 5 minutes—has a . A silver mech soon joins him, and rests a hand on his shoulder. "Prowler… I's time."

"I know, Jazz…"

"Ah've foun' a place…where the girls'll be safe…"

Prowl sighs heavily. They have no choice but to send her away. The two are officers in a war, and it would be illogical to endanger their new daughter in such a way. "Are you certain she will be safe?"

"As sure as Ah can be…" He slips out a tiny chip, and slips it in above her optics. "This'll make sure she won' be foun' ou'."

The femmeling in their arms squirms, and chirps in annoyance before giving her creators a soft huff as she closes her optics. "I wish we didn't have to do this…"

"Ya're no' the only one, Prowler…" He sighs. "I's ready…" He activates the new program using a tiny button under the femmeling's armor.

The femmeling looks organic now—like a human newborn. She still has her bright blue optics, though they, too, look organic, and she has pink streaks in her blonde hair. Her armor has become cloth, and covers her pedes, but is still predominately yellow, with pink hearts printed on and pale blue trim. The second has red hair without streaks, and green eyes, and is wearing an ice blue sleeper with light pink trim.

"Jazz?"

"I designe' i' ta keep suspicion off the femmelin's from bein' discovere'."

"Thank you."

Jazz takes the femmeling and slips her into one of the escape pods before launching it toward the planet, placing the second into a separate pod for protection. The two stare after the pod as it fades away. "She's safe now, Prowler…"

"We can only hope…"

April 23rd, 2001, 12:00 AM, 20 miles outside Culver Indiana

A newly married couple are watching a movie in the middle of the night, when they hear a loud boom in the woods behind the trailer they just moved into.

The woman jolts before turning to her husband in fear. "What was that?"

The man turns to the woman, calm even in the heat of the moment. "I'll go see. Stay here."

The two walk half-way back to the line of trees before the man turns to his wife. "I thought I told you to stay!"

"I'm not letting you get hurt."

"Whatever." He steps past the trees to find a large crater in the middle of the hidden field, and a large metal pod in the center of the crater. After getting it open, the couple stares down at a tiny, infant girl, no more than a few hours old, wearing a yellow and pink heart print sleeper with baby blue trim.

"It's a baby…"

The woman lifts the baby girl out. "We'll come up with a story later. Let's get our daughter home."

Within a few days, the couple has set up a nursery for the child, with light blue walls and red furniture, the set theme the new father's favorite Sesame Street Muppet: Elmo. The tiny girl, now wearing a yellow and pink Elmo sleeper, is sleeping in a red crib, covered with a pink camouflage blanket.
