Author's Note: It's been... *looks at watch* ... a while since I've last updated. I hope you enjoy this take on Cujo's origin story. This came out way longer than I had originally planned for it; I hope you all will enjoy it.

Disclaimer: I do not own Danny Phantom, but if I did Cujo definitely would've been in more episodes.

A man dressed in an Axion Industries uniform walked into Amity's local animal shelter. As he entered he was met with a cacophony of noises ranging from quiet meows to deep barks. He had been sent on this errand from the company's higher ups in search of a guard dog to protect valuable technology that was being developed.

"How may I help you today, sir?" a young woman asked from the front desk.

"I was looking for a breed that would make for a good guard dog for the company that I work at." the man answered quietly, slightly ashamed about his actual intentions for being at the shelter.

"Ah..." the young woman replied with slight hesitation, "Does the age matter?"

"No, the age doesn't matter as long as it can be trained easily." grumbled the man.

The woman nodded and led the man to where the animals were kept. As they entered, the animals all seemed to stare at this potential new owner in hopes of leaving and finding a new home. They walked across the room pass barking dogs and cats that approached the pen's doors.

The woman stopped before a seemingly quiet and empty cage before opening the door and letting the man inside. In one corner of the small pen was a small dog that gazed up at the man with sad eyes.

"His name is Ace, and he was brought in about a week ago. His owner said he was the runt of the litter, and he didn't want him which is why he is here now." the woman explained with a sad smile, "He is rather timid possibly because of all the commotion that happens here, but he has also showed signs of following basic commands fairly well."

"What breed is he supposed to be?" the man inquired as he looks at the sad looking puppy.

"His owner said he is a rottweiler mix." answered the young woman as she picks the puppy up for the man to have a better look.

As he looked at the dog he can't help but feel bad for the small pup. The man decided that he would make the little dog as comfortable as possible in the new environment and job he was going to be introduced to.

"I'll take him." the man told the woman as he took the dog from her hands.

After filling out the required paperwork and buying the necessary supplies for the puppy the man took him to his apartment. The man called his boss to tell him that he had found a dog but he was a puppy which meant he would need some training and time to grow. His boss decided that he would also be responsible for training the timid dog.

The small dog was terrified of everything - cats, birds, even his own shadow. The man had to figure out how to transform this scaredy cat into a guard dog.

He had found a training book at the library and was reading it day by day. From his reading he learned the little dog would open up to him more if he rewarded him with something when he did something right.

"Ace, come here," the man called out.

The little dog remained in the little bed near the couch in the apartment, simply looking at the man who had just called him. The man then revealed a small squeaky toy which caught the little dog's attention. The sad eyes seemed to twinkle with happiness and curiosity.

"Ace, if you want to get the toy then you have to come." the man smirked as he held the toy up and squeezed it again, watching the dog's tail wag.

The little dog cautiously left his bed and walked up to the man for the first time since he had been adopted two weeks prior. The man lowered the toy to Ace's level so that the puppy could grab it with his teeth.

"Good boy," the man cooed as he pet the dog's head.

To his surprise, after a few minutes of chewing his toy Ace dropped it in front of his feet. The man scratched his head out of confusion to why the dog would bring him a toy back when he seemed to like it so much.

He looked at Ace who was panting happily and wagging his toy as he stared up at him. The little dog's eyes seemed so happy and full of energy. The man decided to toss the toy across the room to Ace's bed so he could plah with it. The puppy ran across the room and brought the toy back to his new master.

"Do you like fetch?" asked the man as he finally seemed to understand what the small dog wanted to do.

The two began to play games of fetch in between Ace's training lessons. Ace really was smart like the woman at the animal shelter had said. Once he had his new toy he had loosened up and followed commands almost perfectly as soon as they were taught to him. After just a few weeks of training he could do almost every basic command that he had learned. The man thought it probably had to do with the dog's obsession with his squeaky toy which he was rewarded with after every successful attempt and execution of following a command.

He had been quite annoyed when his boss first presented him with the task of finding a guard dog. He figured there were other more qualified employees who actually knew a thing about dogs that would have been more useful at such a job. Now, after spending time with Ace, he couldn't picture not coming home to excited barking waiting for him in his apartment. The man had taken a liking to Ace. He was such a good little dog that liked to have fun. He would run around in circles trying to chase his tail or pretend to be sneaky when trying to steal some food from a plate that was definitely not his dog bowl.

As Ace grew, the man knew it would soon be time for him to be brought to the lab and learn more aggressive commands which is why he had been adopted in the first place. This saddened him because Ace was such a good dog that was gentle and carefree. He also knew that he would miss seeing Ace every day like he had been. Ace was supposed to be kept on a different floor from the one the man worked on. Visiting also would be limited if at all possible. Each passing day made his heart ache a little more.

The time soon came for Ace to be brought to Axion Industries. Ace seemed to be confused when his master held the front door open for him as if he was expecting him to leave with him. That had never happened before so he wondered what the special occasion was. His master told him to follow so Ace did as he was told.

On the car ride to work, his new master seemed sadder than before and he was telling him that he couldn't stay with him anymore but he would still get to see him almost every day. This made Ace anxious. Was he going to another new home?

Once they arrived at their destination Ace examined his surroundings as he hopped out of the car. Following closely behind his master he walked into a building that was very different from his master's home. It was full of metal and lights which scared Ace. His master led him down a few hallways and told him not to be scared. There was a room with a cage in it, and his master said that he had to stay there until he came back. He gave him his squeaky toy and closed the cage's door behind him.

Ace whined and cried for a few minutes because he thought his master loved him and wanted to keep him. He wondered why he had to go back into a cage. He played with his squeaky toy until he got tired and took a nap. He was awakened by the sound of a door opening and was met with the sight of his master.

As he opened the cage's door, the man spoke, "Ace, this will be your new home. You will protect this building when everyone leaves for the night. I will visit as much as I can, but we only have a few more weeks to spend time together."

Ace let out a bark and followed his master as they walked around the building. They were in a room that held something very big and shiny. It looked scarier than anything else Ace had seen in the building.

"This is very valuable and bad people will try to take it which is why you need to be a good dog and stop anyone who tries to come in and get it." the man said as he looked down at the dog he had raised for the past 7 months.

They went over new commands that included growling and biting At first, Ace was very hesitant and didn't want to do these commands. He liked the ones he had first learned like rolling over. These commands would hurt people and make people afraid of him.

His master looked at him and told him he only had to do these commands when someone bad came at night. He would be protecting good people if he followed these commands. This made Ace less hesitant because he wanted to protect his master and the others that worked there.

For the next several weeks this was how he and his master spent their remaining time together. He would stay in his kennel until his master got off work and then they would practice his new commands. They would finish off with fetch using his squeaky toy. His master's bosses seemed pleased with his performance and said that he would be ready to start in the upcoming week.

His master visited him a couple of times a week once he had become the building's guard dog. They played during his master's lunch and after his master got off work if he had extra time. He missed his old home, but as long as he could still see his master, he would be a happy dog.

After his first month of being a guard dog, a recent string of robberies in the area had everyone on high alert. He was kept out all day just in case the criminal decided to strike during the day. Sadly, it would be night when the thief visited his new home.

He heard the sound of glass breaking and was in attack mode. He followed the sound of footsteps, and saw the person was heading for the room with the special shiny piece of metal his master had told him about. He picked up his speed because he didn't want to let his owner down. He charged and leapt onto the man knocking him down. He growled and tried to bite the man's arm, but the man had pushed him off before he got the chance.

"Stupid dog," the thief growled, "Get out of here."

This made Ace mad. He was going to stop this bad person from hurting his master at all costs. He jumped on the man's back again and managed to bite his shoulder causing the man to roar out in pain. Ace kept his grip on the man's shoulder for several minutes until he had to move to fix his position. The alarms had sounded when the man broke the windows, but the police had yet to arrive.

As Ace shifted his weight on the man's back, he was shoved off. Ace was caught by surprise by the sudden movement. The man stood back up and brought his leg back and then forward with incredible force, aiming a powerful kick to Ace's stomach causing the dog to yelp out in pain as he hit the floor.

"Ain't no stupid mutt going to get in my way." the man yelled as he pulled something shiny out of his belt.

Bang Bang

Ace whimpered in pain as he felt something lodge itself under his skin. He knew he had to do something or his master would be disappointed in him. He charged at the man who was standing near the stairs and he launched forward as he knocked them both down the staircase. The man groaned in pain as he clutched his head. He pointed his gun at Ace who was just as disoriented from the fall and pulled the trigger, completely emptying it of bullets.

Ace laid there as his blood pooled out under him as he watched the man struggle to get up. His hearing was better than the man's and he could hear the faint sound of sirens which meant the bad man wouldn't get away with his crime.

He wished he had been stronger. He wouldn't get to see his master again or play fetch with his favorite toy. He wouldn't be able to protect like his master wanted him to do. His body was flooded with pain and his breathing was slowing down. There would be no time for a goodbye.

The police soon arrived and arrested the man who had been responsible for 15 burglaries in the past month. As they apprehended the man, they saw the puddle of blood that was under the body of a large dog. They checked the dog's vitals, but it had been too late.

As Ace left his body he had a certain satisfaction about him. He was able to see the man be taken into custody. His vision then turned black and when he came to, he was met with green swirls.

There were strange looking people all around him with doors floating around the green abyss. He happily barked trying to find someone to play with, but he was either ignored or shooed away.

He wandered around what he came to learn was the Ghost Zone. For some odd reason he was the same size he was as a puppy when he was in a good mood, but t he would turn into a much larger and scarier form when he was angered. One day he heard about something called the Ghost Portal which he followed some fellow called the Box Ghost through.

He saw the outside world had not changed much from when he had last seen it, but he did remember that he had left behind his beloved squeaky toy that his master had given him. He knew he couldn't see his master anymore because they were now of two different worlds, and his master didn't need the stress of caring for a ghost dog.

He would try to get his squeaky toy as well as find a new master, one that was a ghost of course. First, he had to find Axion Industries. The small green ghost dog set out in search of his toy.

What the little dog didn't know was he would cause a lot of trouble in his search for his toy. His search would also lead him to find a new master, a young boy named Danny, who was what the ghost humans called a Halfa. His new master called him Cujo which he liked. He happily waited for Danny to come back to the Ghost Zone so they could play again.

"Cujo!" yelled the white-haired teen from a distance within the green spirals of the Ghost Zone. "It's time to play fetch."
